  • In this video we share with you our experience using the AP In Wall HD, for more than a year. In three different versions (hard to find and a have a real comparison) there are key aspects that you must keep in mind before planning your wifi infrastructure, as not everything must be handed to wifi, and very specific locations should have what this access Point has to offer.
If you are the manager or infrastructure planner for Schools, libraries, hotels, convention centers, and executive office buildings, there are things to consider before buying just an access point.
Let us tell you what we’ve experienced so far, how reliable it is, and why have people liked it so much.
Besides the Unifi Store, you will find this device in Amazon:

if you read the Datasheet for the Switch you're using it states at the end that for that specific switch the PoE passthrough functionality on the In-wall and in-wall pro doesnt work. that's why you can't supply enough energy to the Cloud key

Correct, the IW-HD provides you only with one passthrough port (number 1), which is the model we use.

Would a HDMI Baluns work on the passthrough port and allow me to use the extra ports for other devices?

You caught me there. We have not tested such situation. What we know is it actually works as a switch. Passthrough PoE we have not been able to use eventhough it states it works.

Is your Poe switch providing enough power to the wall AP?

Yes it does, but as we have mentioned in other videos, it is not enough to power devices through its passthrough PoE port. Even at close distances and perfect cabling. By the way, check the quality and certification of your cable as Unifi equipment is very demanding regarding this. Oddly enough sometimes 5e works better for most APs

Is it possible to use this as a basic wifi bridge?I have a single UAP-AC-PRO and I want to get wired internet into my garage. Of course, I need to use a PoE to power it from the back of the unit, but it will not have data going into the back. So can it be made to join my current wifi and then give out internet from the ethernet ports? I might get the two-port model as I only need one ethernet giving out internet. Thank you very much.

I am sorry I had not answered before but I had to be sure to give you all the specific facts about maybe the best question I've been asked so far about this device, As it seemed fairly remote to have such great functionality, and it is a question I had not even made to myself. Short answer is yes it does work as a bridge. Did a couple of tests as a matter of fact, and here they are. I powered the device individually and bridged my network to a remote laptop connected to the InWall switch and surprised to see it work so good by the way. In my second test I was even more surprised as I powered the InWall with a US-24-poE switch, so I ventured to connect a couple devices into one of those 24 ports, and they also have a very good network access. many of us may immediately start thinking about the benefits this may have as a remote network port may act as the bridging point to a Power over Ethernet switch located somewhere in the same premises. thanks for making us play around with this equipment. An Additional fact, is that I had adopted the In Wall to my network and made it as similar to yours. Then I just disconnected it and took it somewhere else. No further configuration was needed just make sure Mesh is activated in your controller. Thanks for watching our videos and please subscribe to our channel.
