The Apenheul gorillas, June 2021. Bao Bao & Jabari each on their own island.

June 7, 2021: Last time the silverback of Apenheul, gorilla Bao Bao (1985), was not outside and we were not allowed to enter. But this time Bao Bao was outside. Together with 4 females: Mintha (1974), Mandji (1975), Nemsi (2001) & Gyasi (2002). Of course, gorilla baby Kiango was also there. Kiango (21/2/2021, 3 months old) is Bao Bao's first offspring. He is developing very well. Last fall, it was discovered that Bao Bao has heart problems. Medication has started and there has also been more peace in the group, because adolescent Jabari (2012) is sitting separately. There is always at least 1 female at Jabari, currently even 2: M'Fugaji (2009) and Chama (2011). Attention, Bao Bao's roar can be heard at the end of the video!

It hurts my heart watching this seeing how great Gyesi is as a mother and knowing she passed a few months ago. I wish she was still with us but it’s great Kiango has his Aunties that have stepped in for him.

Bao Bao is getting older and frail. Hope he has good health. And I hope he can have more friendly, happy and lovely contact with his new family and have more offspring. Oh Little Jabari has a caring and loving mama who comforts him when he needs it. Very experienced mama. Love they have their own big pond and lotus and water plant to enjoy. Wish they builds one for Tayari and Iriki at the Taipei zoo, too.

Thanks for sharing, I think there are a lot of people who would be delighted to know how BaoBao is doing over there , it’s been few years since he left Taipei Zoo, so glad to know he settled down well with his new families there .

If an animal must live in captivity this is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. One troop of gorillas that are not given even ⭐️⭐️ accommodations are the Momotaro Family who are housed in a very small industrial looking cage at the Kyoto City Zoo.

Jenny I was doing some research and wondered why they castrated Jabari and if this will affect him becoming a silver back?

Jabari has been castrated because there is a surplus of gorilla males. I think it was also a bit of an experiment. He will therefore never really develop into a silverback.

Nee hoor, baby Kiango vond het opeens toch wel erg spannend en daarom gilde hij. Dus mama Gyasi reageerde meteen.
