What’s best about Luca blight, is that he is the one on disadvantage when you fought him, unlike any other typical villain when the protagonist is in disadvantaged, Konami really did a good job showcasing Luca’s strength
That’s so true!! It’s hard to feel proud about defeating him when you got him so outnumbered but you STILL feel proud of it! Because he was so damn strong !

@@CenturianEagle So damn strong that it took an ambush, burning down the forest he was in, three groups of people to pummel him, a dozen of arrows and one final duel for him to die. And that's not counting the previous war army battle where you ambush him before this night raid!
this is not some powerful demon with magic. this is just a very angry man that won't die.
A man driven by rage and madness because he saw his own mother getting R****ed and killed by bandits while his father the king ran for his life like a coward. Luca Blight is like the Guts from berserk if he lost everything and everyone in the eclipse including Casca snd let his madness and vengeance consume him.

Luca is confirmed by the creator to literally be the strongest pure human in the Suikoden universe. He never used any runes nor any magical abilities, all of his powers comes from pure raw physical efforts alone, there's nothing that enhances him besides his flaming sword which he imbued with a special oil, not a rune not a spell just an item. Luca is literally build different, a superhuman in every aspect

@@Alan-cm7ye Pfft.... easy when you needed guides(or played more than 1 time) and you knew the battle and his stats beforehand. Also, you needed battle advantage to beat him. If it was real, you would be destroyed as no load games are permitted and you don't know nothing about him.

It legit took everyone and everything to kill this guy.
it is. this guy needs to get backstabbed, ambushed 3 fricking times, rained by arrows, and still has chance to kill you on one v one battle. he is the menace.
It takes multiple consecutive parties of 6 people + SEVERAL arrows directly to the chest and he STILL DIES SCREAMING FOR BLOOD.
Not to mention the Final Duel with the hero where he still almost manages to kill him.
And they were ambushed.
@Rockiwan1983 McDohl and Riou are too similar in their growth in terms of learning to fight. Geddoe, Chris, Hugo, and maybe even Lazlo do have that chance on their best days. Mostly Geddoe considering he has -years- of fighting in him beyond everyone else.

riou or faleenan prince is at best a rear guard with mainly healing rune. Luca needs opponent with high offensive like rune of punishment or soul eater. or he could face georg prime at his best

After about 30 years of continuous gaming, I can confidently say these battles (yes, THESE, not THIS) are one of the most epic ones I've played to this day.

Facts
He's the best villain than most other RPG's villains too.
Luca was an amazing villain because his *motives* were human, and he is a good example, personality-wise, of what any of us could become if we had witnessed what he did.
Thankfully, that's where the *human* Luca Blight ends and the *monster* Luca Blight begins. He isn't made a fully tragic character, just given a tragic backstory that made him snap and descend into his unapologetic monstrosity. That monstrosity on display for nearly (if not more than) half the game is what made the buildup to his fight so immensely satisfying for me.
I wouldn't have enjoyed him as a villain if the game tried to make me feel sorry for him. I fucking hate "sympathetic" villains. Give me a long look at true, unrepentant evil so I feel vindicated as I finally strike him down.
POV: Konami tells you to get on all fours and squeal like a pig
The game itself literally had to force you to be under-leveled to fight Luca since you don't even have access to END-GAME gears yet at this point. Even with the infamous "Matilda Glitch", he's still a very tough son of a bitch to fight. Plus, he's 1v1 duel with Riou is just pure terror and nightmare since his speeches makes it so that it's hard to predict (owing to his insanity) what moves he's gonna use. If he just laughs (Hahaha... Hahahahaha...!!) or insults you (DIE... YOU PIG!!), will he use ATTACK?! Will he use DEFEND?! Will he use WILD ATTACK?! I don't freakin' KNOW cuz I can't predict him! Even with only a quarter of his life remaining and bleeding to death, he's still perfectly capable of killing Riou with just a few slashes!

well, magics and heal make short work of his soldier. Him being solo is remedied by healers. you chip 80 to 100 dmg against him and eventually beat him.
I agree with his rock paper scissor battle though. Without walktrough, it's extremely hard to predict
@@YogaProject-qz1cq : Still doesn't make him easy. I mean, he's also very resilient to pain. Your RUNEs do half their damage against him, and since he has no weakness to any particular rune, all you can is do stat-check him until he kneels. Healers do great against him, but only if they're beefed-up since Luca attacks 3 times per turn. If RNG isn't very kind to you, he'll just make atleast 3 of them in critical status again.
He's the hardest boss in the game, but defeating him is so satisfying! The next boss after him (Neclord) is a complete push-over.

Use another argument besides a facilitator that the developers left behind. Using this crap method Luca is easy even with the weakest character in the game
If you are to consider only the story of the game, without this immunity bullshit, the real fight inside the game would end with Luca massacring the first group, winning with difficulty of the second, narrowly of the third and a bloody fight to the death in 1 vs 1 , since there should be no one left over to fight him besides the Riou.
it took lots of preparation, strategy, and strength to defeat this beast. even the enemy sides with us for once just to bring down this guy.

you are right luca blight is stronger then last boss i remember i back when i played the game for first then i keep losing and loading again and again it took more me a long time lvling up and upgrading the weapons and buying best armor and long time of plan until i finaly won only to lose in 1 vs 1 duel against him then after few more duels to understand his speech with his actions in the duel finaly i won, the last boss of the game was very easy
Rage and insanity and the tragic past what made him super strong.
This is hands down the best fight sequence in RPG history and whoever says otherwise is wrong.

I'm still flabbergasted at the fact that Luca wasn't the final boss. Not only is he the most memorable part of Suikoden II, but he's the instigator of the plot, the most evil character BY TEN THOUSAND MILES, and his boss fight requires throwing everything and the kitchen sink at him.

He's not the final boss because he was ultimately an attack dog who was too insane for complicated plans, but his insanity allowed the events of the game, as well as the calamities that happened after, to happen in the first place. The final boss, the Beast Rune, could not happen without Luca's campaign of mass death, and it is essentially the combined hatred and malice of this thing, a single man's strike against a world that cast him away and destroyed his family.
Suikoden 2 is not just about the fall of an insane tyrant, but the shockwaves the tyrant makes afterwards. The latter half of the game is entirely about the fallout Luca Blight caused and the power vacuum that comes with felling a tyrant. If anything, killing him off halfway in and yet having his actions be the driving reason why the plot still goes on is brilliant.
Brilliant twist since Jowy becomes the main antagonist even though he really isn't an antagonist he just happens to find himself as the leader of the opposing country.

Luca Blight is so effective and memorable because villains, or antagonists in Suikoden have *reasons* for doing what they do. The reasons don't often justify the extremes they go to, but they're there and you can see why they lead to what the antagonists are doing. Luca doesn't have reasons. He's just a bottomless pit of hatred and fury backed by immense personal power and that is why he's such a stand out. He doesn’t have reasons. He just *is*.
Took all of our best teams and runes to fight him and yet all you can when you face him in the duel is to defend. Such a well made villain.
I think I first played this game 15 years ago.
To this day, whenever Luca Blight crosses my mind, shivers go down my spine.

The soundtrack shows the epicness and the sorrow of this boss fight. I'm honestly impressed of the amount of TALENT that Miki Higashino had to create these masterpiece that I come to listen often in my life. This and Neclord's theme are top notch soundtracks.

@@alwyjahdhamy8094 Rather than lot liking the soundtrack, Gorudo didn't struck me as impactive as the other two as a boss himself, that's why the song never stuck to me! But that's another masterpiece right there.
I would pretty much agree. Much of the time, it is just come out of nowhere, I humming this song and Neclord's theme. Many times in the bathroom 😂

he didn't get murdered. jillia's actual father is one of those bandits. and luca's mother died after giving birth to jillia. the only reason he didn't hate jillia is because she looked similar to his mother, and he still abuses her sometimes. otherwise, he would've killed her.
One of my favorite all time boss themes and battles. It's so bad ass and exciting at that point in the game. It takes an entire army to kill this guy.

My body tremble after beating Luca, he was the hardest boss in Suikoden
Especially for the first time you try him. Sure, in the sixth run he is easy but man, this guy was SO hard to beat when nobody knew nothing.

Unfortunately real life villains aren't nearly as grandiose as the ones in fiction. In real life anyone born into money can do far worse than the likes of Luca with some basic fraud, knowing they'll face no punishment. Give me Luca Blight over George W Bush and the world would actually be less dismal.

He had no magical power or anything special, he's like the Punisher if the Punisher were evil to the core.

@@NickG8420 It only gave him power at the end of the game, where the party killed the thing in the last battle. He also did not have a rune on his body.

@@NickG8420 no, it was left at the highland capital, Luca only used it once at muse (and the statue holding the beast rune is present that time), also we can assume Leon Silverberg actually make Luca unable to use the rune, since Leon is the mastermind behind the ambush that killed Luca

I'm not even an RPG guy, and I still can't really think of a better video game villain than this guy.
I don't feel like there has ever been a villain in any other game that was so effectively built up to be near invincible through story and mechanics. There are so many games where you kill literal gods and it just feels like any other boss, but the extensive planning done in the plot on top of having to fight him with multiple different parties really makes it feel like even after all that you still kind of got lucky to even manage to defeat just a very evil human. He really is a pure evil villain done right.
Only a 114K views for this masterpiece. Yet 20million+ can watch a bloke walk into a door... No justice.

Boomers like me remember this monster. Modern villains don't even hold a candle to this beast, can't think of anyone even remotely evil and sadistic, maybe Kefka.
Also remember , he doesnt have any type of special skills. Only flame rune and inflict it to himself.
No, he doesn't even have a flame rune. He's just using a mundane flammable substance to light his sword on fire, and this was confirmed by the devs. Notice that there's no RUNE symbol whenever he augments his sword with fire? It's because he doesn't even use a rune.

From my days as a game obsessed youth all the way until my present as an aspiring writer, Luca Blight has always stood as the perfect archetypal villainous brute.
Nearly invincible, delighting in slaughter, facing his death with a roar of manic laughter, he is rage and vengeance embodied.
His downfall requires the might and cunning of dozens of heroes. And in his dying breath, revels in the chaos and suffering that he inflicted upon those he hated.
One of my favorite villains of all time.

Just like sephiroth, this baddass evil got his own chorus. You know what, every villains got his own theme songs is 100% pure hardwork, hours after hours from a true artist, sephiroth, darth maul, etc. #respectvillain #voteforantagonist
The Silver Wolf(last boss)'s only edge over Luca in terms of difficulty was the left leg that causes every status effect in the game. Other than that, Luca was the hardest boss.
The Silver Wolf isn't even that hard if RNG is kind to you. The Silver Wolf has a barrier at the beginning of the battle that reduces all incoming physical and magic damage by a whopping 50%. Like Luca, The Silver Wolf attacks thrice per turn, But if the Silver Wolf decides to use it's AoE Shining Moon attack (it only does this once per turn but it does huge damage and makes your party's HP go in Critical RED status), the barrier then dissipates, and now it takes full damage from your party and it's an EASY win from there as long as you target it's Right Leg first (the one that resurrects the Beast Rune Circle in the center). The Silver Wolf is a total joke, but a great final boss to end the game anyways. Luca is just on a whole other level, he attacks thrice per turn, hits like a truck, hits 2 or 3 party members by lighting his sword on fire, very resistant to pain as all incoming damage against him is greatly reduced to 50% (including Magic damage), plus the game forces you to be under-leveled against him. The game itself wants you to know that Luca is THE hardest boss in the entire game!

Yes, obviously. For me, he was the true devil. No wonder why he wielded Beast Rune on his grip, because his brute strength and flame sword were just like a fire of hell

He is actually, just not the final boss. Jowy was "forced" to betray your character because he knows Luca had plan to unleash beast rune (those wolves), so he used his rune power to weaken the true rune.

That being said, I liked all the games. But 2 is easily the best imo.

I remember in my first playthrough I thought "ooohhh cool soundtrack!", now let me use rune attack to get rid of the soldiers and enjoy this battle. Then Luca started his basic attacks and I'm like "meh, it''s not so bad". Suddenly lashed out his fire sword attacks and I'm like "I'm fighting for my effing life!!"
The dread starts when you realize he can attack three times per turn.
The physical attacks are actually the most dangerous though, with the right items equipped you can make at least one party member fire immune but nothing can protect you from the regular slashes

I'm a big fan of Sephy but Night Star is right. Both Luca Blight and Kefka Palacio are insane and riddled with madness, IMO they were both perfect Evil and Mad characters.
Seems like if you combine Sephiroth (very strong) with Kefka (very crazy), you get Luca (very strong and very crazy)

This song does an amazing job of getting across just how *desperate* this plan is. Everyone knows this psychopath is nigh unkillable, and you and your forces are quite literally piling up in droves. Dude is taking mortal wounds and is still raving like a lunatic. And this track is so tense. Theres like little to no hope in the song, its all dire. Incredible.

I should've used fire sealing rune in this battle if only I knew. Thank god I brought multiple heals and some magic reflect skills. Shiro carried the battle. I didn't think about him already dying in this moment like damn, I thought he is the final boss
Spent a lot of time to train my character to defeat this devil.
The composer retired after Suikoden 2, and that's why all the soundtracks after it sound so poor and different. I hope she comes back to do some tracks for the new game :(

she won't, she said the entire making of suikoden 2 had her thinking about her life, she felt like chasing after something that is not worth chasing, after Suikoden 2 were done she decided it is time to slow down and take care of her family instead.
As much as we love Suikoden 2, it was made under extremely bad condition, with low budget, manpower, and time. Yoshinori even said the making of this game took few years of his life, it was that bad. If you think Konami just gotten bad now, you are wrong, the executives have been bad long time ago, the reason they still released quality stuffs was because they picked the correct people to work on it despite their horrendous working condition.
Yoshinori did invite Miki Higashino for the making of Eiyuuden Chronicle, but she refused, I guess Suikoden 2 was such a dreadful trauma for her
I wonder if any swordsman could handle Luca one-on-one. Probably only young Ferid or young Georg could stand a chance.

No swordsman ever could face Luca one-on-one, to be quite honest. He's supposed to be the epitome of human strenght and potential. An extremely talented lad that turned into a monster, but that otherwise could have become an outstanding ruler unlike his own father. I could see a few master swordsmen that could fight him to a stalemate for a while, but would've been pushed back as the fight went on. Pesmerga is powerful, but not more powerful than Georg Prime or Yuber, and we know that Luca's stronger than Yuber.

Apparently, you can actually make the final duel easier by babysitting Hero and making sure his health is maxed out, so he can take a hit or two when it comes to the one-on-one. I've never even had the chance to do that, because Hero is usually the last man standing in the final party with only double-digit HP, but I'm told it's a thing.
As a monster, and beyond that Luca Blight is are is. What a freaking beast to take down. To hell with Kefka, Sephioth, whatsoever.
