Great video 🎉. We watch many of these types of videos since we help medical students with finding rotations, but they are usually very surface level info. This is much more in depth 😊
Thank you very much. I just have one question, Do IMG students in their internship year in their home university regarded as graduates or medical students to the US hospitals/universities? i.e. are they eligible for elective clerkship?
Thank you sir. Actually I was just curious to know that how did you manage to do 3 clinical electives before your internship. Didn't it affect your attendance in the year just before internship
How did you do electives during final year and internship? Especially during internship don't you have to get a certain amount of attendance? Also studying for the final year must have been time consuming. how did you manage it?
Hello Dr. Rohit Nathani, I would like to know how the elective fit into your Medical Degree program, did you have to pause from your studies in that semester of Med School? Do you get credits from the elective? Please, I'd be really grateful for a reply.
In an elective you rotate with 3/4 doctors. 1 every week or 1 every two weeks. So potentially you can get 3 or more lors from one month of elective, but I won't count on that. Do at least 2 electives to be competitive.
Arjun Chatterjee Ohh so 2 months of electives! Thank you so much for clarifying!! May I also ask about the cost of insurance malpractice/health insurance ?
Hi I’m a 3rd year mbbs student in India However since mine is a new college I cannot give steps till I graduate So do I stand a chance to match if I give my steps after graduating and do just observerships ( not electives)
Hey bro thank you for your informative video. Say i have 2 months to do electives Do you recommens doing it in one hopsital or in 2 different hospitals? As people told me doing it in one hospital makes the LOR more reliable.
Thank you for your reply bro. I want to do an elective in Radiology in Cornell. Do you think getting an elective in Radiology is difficult? Like you mentioned it is difficult for cardio.
@@MohamedKhaled-mo1we not really. Most people apply for IM electives. Only do radio electives if you want to pursue radiology in the future. It's better to stick to one speciality always.

You should be well versed with your elective subject. If you're doing nephro know nephrology in details. The more you know helps but mastering CK isn't necessary.
Most of the universities/hospitals website says that elective for visiting students is suspended due to Covid-19, does anyone know when they’ll open back for visiting students?
@@ArjunChatterjee Hello! Is it advisable to extend our internship for longer than usually ppl do, just for the sake of being eligible for electives?? I mean like whole year is going by after I gave my step1 and I m just waiting for applications to open. Or should finish internship and do observerships later, especially someone is looking up to surgery residency?
Thanks for the video. There is one question I cant seem to find the answer and would really appreciate the help. I am a 4th year student(total is 6 years), have no USCE before, and havent taken the step 1 yet(will probably take it after pass/fail). Our academic calendar has 1 month of elective in our final year. Is that the only time I can do an elective in US? Or how can I do lets say 2 months of electives? (So basically what I wonder is, when we say "the electives", are we referring what our school lets us, or it has nothing to do with the scool I study in). If 1 month is the only option I have and it is not good enough, I will maybe consider freezing my school for 2 months in final year and do elective in US. Although, I am not sure if graduating 2 months later will look bad in matching process. (You say you did 3 before your internship, and 1 after it. Does that mean you got graduated 4 months later than your normal calendar?) Thanks for any answer!
