  • The Nakamichi Shockwafe Pro has to be one of my favorite soundbars that I have used!
    Buy the Nakamichi Shockwafe Pro on Amazon:
    geni.us/mVCE9Kl
    It's pretty uncommon to find a soundbar such as this one that includes quality surround sound speakers. Most other soundbars that have surround speakers use very low-quality drivers, but not this one!
    If you're interested in my written review of this soundbar, then check out my article on our website:

    Nakamichi also has 2 other Shockwafe models! The Shockwafe Elite 7.2 and the Shockwafe Ultra 9.2. So if a single subwoofer doesn't interest you, then check out one of these models.

    I have this soundbar, purchased early January 2021. We are on firmware 35 and all of the issues mentioned in the is video has been remedied. If you have any connection drop out look at your remote and tap the setup button until you see "DF Off" on the led screen. This stands for dedicated frequency. Switch it to DF ON and this will use a dedicated wireless frequency that common wifi routers never use. This instantly fixed cut outs and havent had 1 since. Also not stated here but in the manual, there are actually 3 different ways to set up your rear speakers that will give you drastically different atmos performance. The first is standard with the rear speakers standing like bookshelf speakers which will give you weak atmos separation but the best standard surround if you don't plan on using in an atmos environment. The second is hybrid elevation, this is how I use it laying them horizontally on the speaker stands drivers tilted forwards and towards the ceiling making for an honestly jaw dropping atmos experience, when I watched transforms DOTM I heard ships,bullets flying, metal clinging, and missiles zooming by that I had never heard before the first hundred times I watched it. The third is for a more atmos focused experience, which will have the speaker facing at a sharp upwards facing angle and will ensure you hear the height mix in the sound track, but it certainly weakened the overall surround experience, but if you want the best height experience it's a good one. All in all I stuck with option 2, hybrid. the manual will have specific measurements for speaker placement, and what SSE level to use as well as room size setting. Follow the guide and I promise you'll never need another sound system. I tried vizio, lg, samsung, Sony and jbl atmos options. All got returned and after a long holiday home theater upgrade season, all I can say is if you want the best of the best, just go nakamichi

    I sincerely apologize for the long message, sir. I really do appreciate your recent videos explaining about the various audio sounds that can be played in sound bar systems. I’ve owned this Nakamichi 7.1 Pro sound bar since February of 2018. I did the firmware update this past year for Dolby Atmos. TBH, I didn’t realize till this past week but I used to always click the “Movie” mode setting on my Nakamichi remote when I started a Dolby Atmos/DTS:X track film & I discovered that I shouldn’t click the “Movie” setting but just to allow the automatic 4K blu-rays settings of Dolby Atmos/DTS:X track to go through the speakers. The audio Dolby Atmos/DTS:X messages show on the sound bar for this and I always overlapped it with the Movie setting. I realized just recently that this was hurting the Dolby Atmos/DTS:X track experience and was shocked of the audio difference with the no Movie setting overlapped and added. Maybe if I click the Movie setting 1st and then have Dolby Atmos/DTS:X played over it could be true too but I find the audio experience much better by just leaving the sound bar system alone as it adapts to the film track settings when the films begin audio play. I’m sorry for the long explanation of this again. I feel kind of dumb for not realizing this for over 2 years having this sound bar but I’ve enjoyed the amazing audio experience better, I just wanted to let you know. I’m sorry for the long message. Thank you again for your videos. I’ve subscribed to your channel! 👌

    Hello Jonah, I enjoy your videos and have learned a lot. I have reached a dead end in my quest for an answer to assist my Mom who is hard of hearing. On an older system we were able to have her listen to a movie through her headset (old Sony and not bluetooth) wireless and charging base plugged into back of TV through headphone jack and receive audio to the external soundbar speakers at the same time. She prefers headphones as she can hear the dialogue much better. In December 2022 I purchased an Insignia - 55" Class F30 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV with a Nakamichi - Shockwafe 7.1.4Ch 850W Soundbar System with 10” Wireless Subwoofer, Dolby Atmos, eARC and SSE MAX - Black. The soundbar is connected through HDMI eARC, running CEC for remote control and the sound is great. The big problem is that we can no longer get dual sound through the soundbar and her headphones at the same time. Obviously headphone jack on Insignia TV looking for TV speakers that are now turned off because of soundbar. The option to upgrade her to wireless bluetooth speakers will also not do the trick as the audio would only go to the headphones and no sound to the external soundbar speakers and therefore we cannot watch the movie with audio at the same time. I have researched this for what seems like forever and no solution only finding that others who want to use dual audio with headphones and external soundbar speakers are experiencing the same problem regardless of brand of equipment. I purchased the TV and soundbar through Best Buy and they have no answer and receiving no answers from Insignia or Nakamichi. I have 60 days to return/exchange both TV and soundbar. If my current setup will not provide the audio my Mother needs I would be willing to purchase another TV and soundbar that will do the trick. Do you have any suggestions or referrals to someone that can help me? I truly appreciate any help you can provide in advance. Thank you.

    Which rear-speaker placement option do you have them? I also got the 7.1.4 and for the rears I positioned them as the Hybrid 360 Surround with Vertical Effect.
    One thing I noticed with this placement was that “Dolby Upmixing” sounds much more objective accurate and clearer than “Dolby Surround” setting.
    This is probably due to the way we place them as the rear speakers are firing upwards. “Dolby Upmixing” does not enhance height effect, only mixes audio to surround while the speakers’ position creates the height effect so it works out perfectly. However, “Dolby Surround” intensifies the height effect even more which throws sounds off all over the place.
    Are you experiencing the same? Please let me know.

The exercise room is not my primary system, but still, want decent sound in there since it ha sky old 65C7 OLED. Thanks.

    Great review. Lots of answers to my questions. Im considering getting the 7.2.4 It will perfect for my set up and room size. However the only thing stopping me is the eARC & ARC confusion. I will be connecting my devices directly to the TV inputs. And use the TV eARC to send the sound to the soundbar ARC. Will it be able to get the full formats of the sounds such as Dolby Vision and higher than 5.1 Chanel, or i must connect my devices to the soundbar?
    I am asking since i will be getting the PS5 and will be using the 2.1 hdmi port on the TV. And i prefer to save my video and sound settings on every input.
    Your time is mostly appreciated 🙏.

      Thanks! So the none of the Nakamichi Soundbars have HDMI eARC, they all have HDMI ARC. So the highest level of audio quality you can get through HDMI ARC is Dolby Digital Plus (compressed/lossy Dobly Atmos). If you want full uncompressed/lossless Dolby Atmos, then you will need to connect the device to one of the soundbar's HDMI inputs. To be honest, I don't know if most people will be able to tell a difference between lossy/lossless, but everyone is different. I would try both to see if you can notice a difference, then make a decision from there as to where you leave the device connected. Hope this makes sense and helps!

    Based on this review, I just ordered the 7.1. Now, I have an UST projector with 1 HDMI ARC, 2 HDMI ports. This projector does NOT support Dolby ATMOS. I have an Nvidia Shield that I use for 90% of my content. This Nvidia Shield DOES support Dolby ATMOS. For best sound, should I connect the Nvidia Shield to Soundbar via HDMI ARC? Or standard HDMI? TV to Soundbar via ARC or HDMI? thanks-

    • @alexyockey1810
      @alexyockey1810 3 роки тому

      Connect your shield to input 1-2 on the soundbar, this will allow for atmos decoding from your shield since ARC won't passthrough atmos, only eARC. plugging through the soundbar will also allow dolby vizion/HDR10 passthrough. Plug from HDMI ARC on tv---->HDMI ARC on soundbar

    So after checking out the Sonos arc which do u prefer between the 2?

    • @JonahMatthes
      @JonahMatthes  4 роки тому +1

      This is a difficult question haha. I would say the Sonos Arc because the Mids and Highs sound SO much better than the Nakamichi, but the Nakamichi's low-end (because of the subwoofer) beats the Sonos Arc. Depends on what you value more in your listening experience. I'd say a plus to the Sonos Arc is that you can expand upon that system by adding surround speakers and sub, but it's stupid expensive to do so. However, a system like that will compete with some traditional surround sound setups.

My Nvidia shield is connected with the HDMI cable to an projector and the only way to add a sound device is through Bluetooth. Let me know thanks

    • @JonahMatthes
      @JonahMatthes  3 роки тому

      Bluetooth isn’t great when watching movies, TV, etc. because you’re limited to 2 channels of audio. I would suggest a soundbar that has an HDMI input and HDMI Output. Then you can connect your Nvidia shield directly to the soundbar, then connect your soundbar to the projector. Most soundbars still have Bluetooth connectivity so you could play music to it if you want to. This is the best scenario, hope this helps!

    I just got a box delivered and it doesn't have "Dolby Atmos" anywhere on the box, just "Dolby Audio", which is disconcerting, so I'm wondering what I'm really getting. It says DTS X all over the box. But DTS X is being phased out.
    If their system didn't support Dolby Atmos originally, then they should redesign the box that has it relabeled.
    I'm also not a fan of the cutting out problem. I'm almost considering returning it, cause I would be super annoyed with it cutting out.

      Nakamichi models that shipped with DTS:X but not Atmos should add Atmos with a firmware upgrade. You probably have one of the earlier versions of their current hardware; newer versions (including the one Jonah tested) have Atmos logos as well as DTS:X.
