    The Lagos (that you styled for me) is my favourite frame from my collection. There's just something about it - a little bit catseye (which is very uncharacteristic of my style) that is softened by the unique crystal colouration. The faceted browline softens the catseye form, and adds a new dimension to it. It's somehow bold yet doesn't shout - it's CONFIDENT!
    I don't say this lightly, as I have at least a few other frames in the same class/category (won't be mentioning brands/models).

    I love that LA eyeworks uses ACTUAL hand pinned rivets, not shields. It drives me up a wall when manufacturers make a beautifull pair of glasses just to put shileds on, or fake rivets just to put a heat sunk hinge behind it (ahem...JMM). Big chunky frames feel more solid with riveted hinges.

      It's a cool piece. I have one kept aside as I think it will be valuable in the future

    I got the twill for my first pair of prescription glasses. They are pretty traditional rectangle, but I like the classic and basic style in a quality frame.

      Their custom frames are wonderful. Their ready to wear frames are actually made in China, sadly.

    I needed this because I want to make my L.A. Eyeworks "Wells" in Dirty Martini to have some super fly lenses 🎉🎉
    Earlier seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race introduced me to this brand.

    Most opticians in London don't seem to stock these, and when I ask why, they normally say that they used to stock LA eyeworks but stopped due to quality control issues.

    i like La Eyeworks, i actually found out about the brand because of this channel. i don’t own a pair yet , I’m not too sure that i will get a pair either. JMM really does have my heart

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  3 місяці тому

      JMM are great, but try to get out of the mindset that they are the be all and end all. There's a lot of hype around them, but just like with Rolex, true watch or glasses collectors appreciate all the best manufacturers and not just one

    Great glasses. It's a shame many of their best (or most appealing to me) acetates seem to only be on their more feminine shapes; Phoenix, Neapolitan, Blotter, Jelly Cake. But I suppose most makers skew more heavily towards mens', so it's probably fair enough.

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  3 місяці тому +1

      I totally agree. There's only the Lagos in their entire catalogue which I would actually wear myself, and even that is slightly feminine. I guess the brand being created by two women does lend itself to that.

    • @ronjenkins8529
      @ronjenkins8529 3 місяці тому

      @@thespectaclefactory I was wearing the Lagos that you did for me just today. I don't wear them often, but when I do they make an impact. The Kola in Bengal with the orange tint that we did are one of my favorites though.

    Is that a blue-blocking lens on those Hardys, or is it a flash coating? (The lenses look a little yellow in the video)...Interested!

    Why do you generally advise avoiding rectangular frames? Is it just the boring factor, or is there more to it?

    • @Dwightamite7
      @Dwightamite7 3 місяці тому +4

      Yes, he’s said in previous videos multiple times that rectangular are boring/basic/unoriginal. But he’s also made a short on the best rectangular frames that has some good options

    Dita.

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  3 місяці тому

      If you were going to say Dita then you would have to say Masunaga, since they produce Dita frames...

    • @GamSole1899
      @GamSole1899 3 місяці тому +1

      @@thespectaclefactory Hi, Dita opened their own factory back in 2018. It seemed to be a big deal since they were one of the few independent factories to do so. Do you happen to know which models they produce out of that factory and which may be produced by Masunaga? I've always been curious.
      On a similar note, do you know who else makes other brands' eyewear? We know brands like Jacques Marie Mage, Chrome Hearts, and pretty much most of the industry are more designers and not manufacturers, so they all outsource their manufacturing to someone. I'd love to know who produces what product for which brands. Stuff like this is interesting. Many years back, Luxottica bought a majority stake in Fukui Megane, which is why Ray-ban started their "Made In Japan" titanium eyewear.

    This is the very first video I disagree with your scoring on. You have L.A. Eyeworks a 9 out of 10 on Style, and an 8 out of 10 on originality. I was born and raised in L.A. The home of Zsa Zsa Gabor and the Marlboro Man lit up on Sunset Blvd. L.A. is pink and green and filled with kitsch, smog, crime, and... Miley Cyrus. You are what you drive. L.A. is not my thing and so I moved to NYC. Even so, L.A. Eyeworks captures perfectly an ideal of L.A. I give them a 10 out 10 on both Style and Originality. Again, not my thing but I bow to L.A. Eyeworks. They are a creative vision. I'd rather have Masunaga or Maison Bonnet, perfection made manifest and... timeless.
