I've had my eye on the oversized silver/white sweater from While You Were Sleeping for years now. It looks so cozy! Edited to share: I've found a similar-ish pattern that could be modified to match this sweater which is the Lakes Pullover by Ozetta/Hailey Smedley. It's been in my cart for the longest. 😂
The fact that Kevin McAllister puts on a huge napkin to prevent the ice cream from getting all over that sweater made me so proud of him (as a mom of a 7yr old lol).. but the white sweater was definitely the best one.
@BreathingYarn absolutely! The boy even showered himself, cleaned the dishes, did his own laundry... not to mention the whole saving the house from being robbed thing and the bravery it took to stand up to those guys. It is easily one of my favorite Christmas movies, even if his family treated him poorly. Kevin's parents should've definitely saved him from Uncle Frank and put him in his place since the beginning.. but I digress 😅
The movie Krampus and Coming to America has some great knits and are some of my favorite movies, like a long all-over cable cardigan.- Hats and ear warmers
I LOVE finding knitwear inspiration in kdramas but the very best (imo) is definitely "Crash Course in Romance" because there are so many textured and crocheted sweaters - like every episode! 10/10 highly recommend 👍
I'm laughing because I literally paused Holiday on Netflix yesterday to try and find dupes for Cameron Diaz's sweaters! That white cabled fluffy thing is amazing x
That sweater vest is shaped into points on the bottom, you can tell from the diamond pattern, the diamonds run parallel with the triangular shape, but are disected vertically along the button band. Hope this makes sense, love your vibe and your kitties! ❤
The sweater Neil wears in The Santa Claus are definitely 80s vibes. My hubby had a coworker who wore them all winter long. His mum made them for him. Not knitted them, but purchased knitted fabric and sewed them.
My favorite Christmas movie is Jingle All The Way, but this year I discovered the absolute unhinged chaotic catharsis of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Ernst Saves Christmas is also a nostalgic fav.
Love this list, While you were sleeping is one of my favourite Christmas movies too and you've just inspired me to watch it again! I always love your take on knitting designs and pattern round ups, you have great taste and a really unique perspective compared to every other youtuber I see who tend to pick all the same things. Looking forward to seeing more from you ✨💕
Your commentary is incredible and I am now obsessed with knitwear in Christmas movies. ALSO, you look like Izzie from Grey’s Anatomy & I can’t stop seeing it. I think that’s a sign for a rewatch.
It IS DEFINITELY the best Grinch movie! And I love the sweaters they designed. I want to make Bricklebaums reindeer sweater he is wearing when the Grinch steals his sleigh decoration 😂
Love Actually has so many good knits! Even if you don’t like turtlenecks, Mia (the Alan Rickman home wrecker) has some really interesting color work vests and sweaters.
I'm not a big fan of Christmas movies (or movies for the most part), BUT I loved this video. I also love Christmas albums, and unironically my favorite one is Christmas Island by Jimmy Buffet (rip, you Key West man).
For long scarves get yourself a sentro knitting machine (it’s a toy knitting machine and it super cheap (£35) compared to a regular knitting machine (£800). You can make the grinch scarf or the long red one in a day. I love my sentro and my channel is an hommage to its versatility ❤. And I also agree. I love that grinch movie. The dog and the moose make it!!!!
Oh my God, I agree one hundred percent about the only healthy couple in Love Actually 😂 still, that's kinda my fav Christmas movie. Thank you for the video! I love the idea and now I'll probably go and watch a bunch of movies in hopes of spotting knit/crocheted garments. Also just yesterday watched Die Hard. Come on, it is a Christmas movie 😂. Oh, and Knives out. Just because of a sweater Chris Evans is wearing, lol
My Grandma’s name was Merry💖! My husband loved that Grinch movie, you are not alone😁. My favourite Christmas movies are the original Grinch animation, Elf, & A White Christmas. One we saw this that I thought was really sweet was The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Will we ever get to meet Mr. Breathing Yarn?
That's amazing! and Mr.Breathing Yarn is inspired by Dolly Parton's husband. I think he gets a kick out of being a mystery/elusive figure lol. He has promised he'd be in a video learning how to knit if I ever got a million subscribers (so I think he'll remain in the shadows forever).
My favorite one is the white one that little Kevin is wearing! I can’t not focus on knitwear when watching something. Some movies and series where I found inspiration recently were ‚When harry met sally‘, some Friends episodes, esp. Ross‘ sweaters and the Netflix Christmas series ‚Dash&Lily‘.
Themed movies are my favorite of all. Halloween or Christmas I do not care, I just love the vibe. For a very long time my favorite were the unmentionable harry potter iykyk and both Harry's red cable sweater and Ron's "R" sweater are ICONIC. The knits and crotchet stuff in those movies are amazing just because we know that there is a hard core knitter giving everyone handknit gifts for the holidays. Now my fave are any and all Grinch movies, the holiday and while you were sleeping (her flower scarf omg omg omg) so we have similar tastes. One other not necessarily holiday movie that I love to cozy up and ball my eyes out is the lake house with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. Man oh man the outfits AND the house.
@BreathingYarn YEEEEEEEEES. also, thank you for inspiring me to look for knits in movies. I have a big list now, and after I knit all of my essentials, I look forward to knitting movie inspired things ✨️
This is fun! First, I love While You Were Sleeping and White Christmas! Second, have you seen the movie Penelope with James McAvoy??! I think it takes place around Halloween but still winter-ish? But there’s a pattern for her scarf I started, soooo cool!!! It’s the Penelope Cobblestone Scarf by Jennifer Moretti, enjoy!
You always reminded me of someone and I just couldn't figure out who. Until now. You look SO MUCH like the actress that plays Lucy in Narnia! If you were to tell me that was you as a child, I would have believed you! Also, this video is perfect. So cozy and relaxed, thank you for making my day a little better.
I'm actually working on a pair of "fingerless" (fingers are sewn while the rest is knitted) gloves based on a Christmas show while watching your video, and I realised that besides one cardigan every other Christmas movie based knitting plans I have are also fingerless gloves. I'm kind of tempted by Kevin's hat now though...
I love the movie 'lord fauntleroy' not so sure there's so much knitting in it...but it's cute. Ooh and the pippi longstocking movies... She has an Iconic sweater! And 'michel aus Lönneberga'
Now I need to rewatch some of my faves and pay close attention to the knitwear. 👀Some of my favorite movies to watch around the holidays are The Addams Family, Trading Places and Bridget Jone's Diary. Not traditional Christmas movies, but they all have some Christmastime in them.
My favorite Christmas knit is the white cable knit sweater Dylan McDermott wore in Miracle on 34th Street. I would 100% knit one if there’s a pattern for it!
The laughs!!!! You make the best laid back video's and I love them all. I crochet, but bought yarn that was too fluffy, I couldn't see the stitches. So I learned to knit and I now do have this craaaaaazy long scarf. I am 1.75 M and when I twist it around my neck once it still hits my shoes. I live in that thing. Thanks for the video, and the list, I am going to check some of these out. Happy Holidays to you, husband and adorable cats
Just an FYI - it's not quite identical but the storm sweater by petite knit is VERY close to the white jumper Kevin wears in home alone Editing to add: the muppets christmas carol also has some solid knits (mostly the scarves but also the shawl miss piggy wears)
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation has some epically beautiful stranded colorwork 80s sweaters. Beverly D'Angelo specifically gets some really pretty ones to wear! Definitely worth watching/mentioning, if you've not see it already.
I recently watched your Christmas or mine and in the second one the main character is wearing a LOT of Granny Square outfits made me chuckle seeing how many she wears
Gurl, you are on a roll! Loved this video. Always fun to see knits in film, and I’m interested to see recommendations for Christmas movies. We have a regular triple feature for Thanksgiving, but nothing Christmas has stuck, though I kind of love Polar Express, in spite of the somewhat creepy cult vibe at the end. Totally agree with your take on Love Actually - yesterday my husband and I were just discussing the dysfunctional themes, and apparently Knightly was only 17 when she filmed! 😮 Apparently she thought it was very weird.
While You Were Sleeping - her sweaters are even better when you realize it was a subtle but genius choice to reference her backstory - she recently lost her dad. Those oversized sweaters were her dad's sweaters and she's wearing them to feel close to him. I want to know who decided to go that direction in the movie because it's a truly inspired costuming choice.
Ahh, what a sweet shout-out for my Kevin McCallister Socks! Thank youuu! 🥰 I might have to design some Arthur Christmas Socks 🤔😍 I loved this episode, you found so many great knits (and I was here for the non-knitwear outfits, too 🙌)
Oh, and I also love watching The Family Stone at Christmas, I will be watching for knitwear when I watch it this year. And as far as unexpected Christmas movie choices, Edward Scissorhands 💯 fits in that category.
You are so insanely talented. I have just been drooling over your Christmas sock patterns all week and I ughhhhh it's so hard to pick which one I want to cast on first for Christmas 2025!
I remember sitting in the theater, watching The Grinch, and thinking, "wow, there's so much color ... it's kinda pretty actually." Lowkey sad Christmas Vacation didn't get featured. I love Ellen's "Christmas Misery" sweater and it's on my to-knit list. Do you have Netflix? We love to watch Klaus at Christmas, and I think you might like it too. I don't recall if there is any knitwear. Must watch again to find out!
No joke!! But I actually made my sister the home alone beanie. She's worn it a lot for this Christmas season, and I'm making it for myself too. I think you should make it (for a video).
My favorite Christmas movie is the Krampus film directed by Michael Dougherty. I should rewatch to see if there's any fun knits in that. Haha I only recently learned to knit and never really paid attention to knits in films before.
I always find at least one pattern to favorite from your videos! The Kevin McAllister socks might be my New Year's cast on. Merry Pip-mas, Isabella! (Bit of a stretch, but I wanted to include both cats)
OKAY Y’ALL in The Santa Clause 3 (the one with Jack Frost), the woman is wearing this beautiful knit piece while she’s in labor in the beginning and I NEED it. I need info on it, I need to make it. Me and my wife watched it like two days ago and I haven’t stopped thinking about it!! Also love your vids! 💖 This is such a nice cozy space, I never leave comments! It’s scary!
In Australia we had a wave of those sweater the psychiatrist wore. Mostly designed by a local artist called Ken Done. They were unbelievably ugly but spectacular at the same time. And waaaaay too hot for where I live hahahahaha only good for the southerners!
I’d love to see a video just detailing your fave knit podcasts/bloggers/youtubers or a video where you try subscriber suggestions for the same. It’s my fave way to find new channels to sub and check out aside from just clicking every suggested knitting/fiber arts channel that The Alg ™️ throws my way. ❤
don't worry I totally agree with you on the 2018 grinch. I mean I looooove Jim Carrey grinch but the 2018 one is like if the Lorax was the grinch and I love the lorax.
I also strongly dislike (ok hate) A Christmas Story so of course it’s my husband’s favorite. My favorite of all time, must watch every year, is Christmas Vacation. But also ALL the Grinch movies. And the old time stop motion ones. And Polar Express. Ok yes, I love Christmas movies. ❤
My sister and I watched hot frosty together and I kept making her pause so I could figure out the pattern on the scarf. 😂 I think I was driving her crazy. I’m going to try to make it to see if I’m right about it 😅
I'm doing my yearly christmas re-watch of the Lord of the Rings trilogy right now and honestly, in my memories there are way more hobbit-y knits in those movies than I have seen so far lol. BUT it made me realize: are your furry babies named after Merry and Pippin? 🥺🥰
Jane in the Happiest Season broke my heart, she is so nice I don't understand why the movie is so shady with her. Yes, she is corky... so what? Destroying her painting was so mean and random... ??? If I did a painting for someone, spending time and money.... and they dared? It's ok to not like it, but to destroy it just because of a stupid rant with someone else? Kristen Stewart should have ended with Audrey Plaza, period

Harry Potter def counts as a Christmas movie 😂❤ those knits that molly makes are ICONIC!
100% yes
@@BreathingYarnomg yes!! And I mean Lotr too, right?
Part five of HP has so many great knits int..
2018 grinch is my favorite as well!
The movie Krampus and Coming to America has some great knits and are some of my favorite movies, like a long all-over cable cardigan.- Hats and ear warmers
There is a Kevin McAllister hat with the moose on Ravelry! I’m totally in love with it. Love this video thanks
I LOVE finding knitwear inspiration in kdramas but the very best (imo) is definitely "Crash Course in Romance" because there are so many textured and crocheted sweaters - like every episode! 10/10 highly recommend 👍
I love that you guys are always always noticing knit or crochet garments in movies!!
The fuchsia and neon pink colour combo is so stunning. I recently started knitting intarsia and oh well... I can imagine a really cute top with this!
Yes 🙌🏻 Intarsia would be the perfect way to show off those colors!
I'm laughing because I literally paused Holiday on Netflix yesterday to try and find dupes for Cameron Diaz's sweaters! That white cabled fluffy thing is amazing x

I loooove while you were sleeping!! Never realized it was a Christmas one hahaha
We watched the Holiday for the first time this year and I loved that cardi.
For a Christmas rec I would say the serie Dash & Lilly, fell in love with the chrismas tree dress, I HAD to make it for myself
My favorite Christmas movie is Jingle All The Way, but this year I discovered the absolute unhinged chaotic catharsis of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Ernst Saves Christmas is also a nostalgic fav.
Love it! My favorite Xmas movie is bad Santa. I need to rewatch it to check what knitwear is in it!

Oh, sweetie, in the 90s those sweaters were available everywhere, and I bought one for my teenaged brother.
Yes, these sweaters (The Santa Clause) were made rather iconic thanks to Bill Cosby.
I love the concept of this video! Would love more of this! So smart. Also love the wide variety of films you selected
I loved every moment of this. I now realize I prefer the "divorcee" cardigan, and that I do the swaddle. Thank you for giving a name to it
Same here ❤
It IS DEFINITELY the best Grinch movie! And I love the sweaters they designed. I want to make Bricklebaums reindeer sweater he is wearing when the Grinch steals his sleigh decoration 😂
Yess, I totally forgot about his characters sweater!!!
I just watched the Santa Clause this past weekend so I was anxiously awaiting to see if you discussed Neil's sweaters. You didn't disappoint me.
I had to, Neil is a sweater ICON!
Carol (2015) is a Christmas movie to me and I probably should take a closer look at the fashion in that movie!
I loved this video! I'm also in love with Kevin's white sweater and his hat.
Love Actually has so many good knits! Even if you don’t like turtlenecks, Mia (the Alan Rickman home wrecker) has some really interesting color work vests and sweaters.

Harry Potter has some great knits. Especially the "R" + "H" sweaters knitted by Mrs. Weasely in the 1st film
Yesss. Mrs.Weasley has some epic crochet! 🧶

my son makes me watch die hard for the christmas season. John McClane does have a great sweater I'd love eto knit for my husband. Great video
I can’t believe I still haven’t seen Die Hard!
My two Christmas movies: Nightmare before Christmas and The Muppets Christmas Carol.
My family has a tradition of watching the 1964 claymation Rudolph and Yukon Cornelius has that iconic red hat with the giant pompom.
The cable sweater from While You Were Sleeping is something I think about a lot more than I'd like to admit.

I love that you feel that way! I’m working on making them as cozy as possible.
The lord of the rings is a great christmas movie, because it has elves
