In the Dead Space universe, they explain the reason why human colonies haven't discovered aliens yet, and that's because the Brethren Moons ate them all. It's not explicitly stated, but implied that humanity is the only non necromorph intelligent race left in the galaxy. You don't get more apocalyptic than that.

Eventually new intelligent species would evolve and start whole cycle anew. I guess necromorphs are a species which works in cosmic scale.
We ain't making it through this one if it happened in real life in the context of Dead Space. If other species in the galaxy died out trying to fight back against these things and failed, what makes humanity think they'll fare any better?
There’s a reason why Isaac has like a hundred different death scenes in Dead Space. He really had no chance of surviving. And yet through sheer willpower, he fought through hell all alone and did what 99% of the crew couldn’t do.

A detail they added in the Dead Space remake (you can see it in some of the preview vids) is Hammond asking Isaac if dismembering, quote "does that even kill them, or do they just stop moving".
it doesnt kill them in the literal sense
they are weaponized dead tissue controlled by a hivemind. necromorphs are just simply tools used by the marker to assimilate any living tissue. cutting off their limbs incipacitates them to such an extent that the marker probably deems them useless. they were never living so they cant be "killed" in the normal sense, they just arent of use anymore.
@@chief_mourner so small correction. Necromorphs are not actually “dead tissue” and in fact the marker is not capable of reanimating truly dead organic matter. This is why they only turn people who have died within a day or so. If they rot then they can’t fully turn. The marker actually just alters the genetic makeup to effectively turn it all in to super stem cells. They can morph in to anything and all the cells can perform all the necessary functions all at once. In ds2 it’s revealed that the unitologists would freeze their bodies after death. This was so that when the marker came for them it could use them for convergence. But this was a plot of the marker since now when the ds2 outbreak occurred it had a full morgue of un rotted bodies to use as an army. But yes the dismemberment causes the marker to cancel the signal to them and they go limb since they can’t perform their task anymore. If a marker is destroyed they all turn in to dna cream as they are (as stated before) a mass of altered dna that are similar to a ball of stem cells. Without the signal that issues constant commands the form doesn’t hold and they just collapse. Then they will decay no differently than a dead human.

@@chief_mourner wrong actually. The marker doesn't deem any necromorphs useless regardless of killing status. When they can't kill anymore, they break down into the corruption. From there, they are recombined with other cells and remolded into other necromorphs forms that can kill.
Think of it like taking parts off a broken car to be used in the production of a new car.
You could survive if:
1. You have strong tolerance against horrible emotional and psychological attacks, horrifying things, experiences and high stress
2. You know that dismembering them is the only way to destroy them.
3. You are a genius engineer who can repurpose simple tools into deadly weapons and get through any challenge
4. You have access to heavy duty, survival space suits that can take a lot of damage
5. You are lucky asf

Well, you wouldn’t survive very long, considering the fact that Necromorphs like the Wheezer would begin to replace the oxygen in the atmosphere (or ship, if you want to be even more screwed) and cause you to either become so weak you’d be easily picked off, or simply cause you to asphyxiate.
Bottom line, no one’s gonna live very long

I love how, just like Halo and other sci fi shooters, an alien threat absolutely claps everything in its path, until one guy with nothing left to lose gets in on the action.
Nobody else could stomp quite like Isaac. It’s his true key to success.
Man I always feel so bad for altman hearing his story he tried so hard to stop the markers before they could harm humanity but in his unfair death became a martyr for unitology a catalyst for the makers making a comeback. Also I'm still mad about what ea did to the series and visceral.
Ironically earth government probably knew about the markers more than unitology. Hence why they don't wanna destroy the tarus moon. But know that keeping it dormant is better. By any means necessary. They even had protocols for it and the brainwashing video tells them to follow order and commit not breathing if it comes down to it. Destroy anything or anyone and don't take chances no matter how much they seem to be able to help.

Being a father myself now, the lurkers are the variant that horrify me the most. It took me a couple months after my son was born to even play through these games because all I could think about was my newborn being attacked/infected. It’s heartbreaking man. To be turned into a necromorph in general is a miserable concept but imagine that happening to an infant…

It’s not even just that. But the implication that the lurkers come from “clone babies” that are floating around in vats, being grown with the sole purpose of giving transplants. Dead Space took that idea (which has been done) and said, “Let’s up it a notch.”
I like to think that the scenes we see with Isaac's hallucinations were just a narrative tool for us to understand how he was feeling and struggling; but it is safe to assume that, lore-wise, he was CONSTANTLY seeing and hearing things in his head, throughout the WHOLE time. That's how insanely badass he really is, to keep up with both the psychological noise and the physical terror.

One other pointer, it's heavily hinted that the human side is still conscious while a necromorph, they can't control themselves but they see what they're doing. Dead space extraction (prequel to dead space 1) ends with the main character becoming a necromorph, and you actually see his view. So if you turn in to a necromorph, you're not even safe from going mentally insane.
And those wall guys are the worst case, with you twitching from pain, as you uncontrollably slay anyone that comes close and eject weird tentacle pods out of your stomach

I feel like Isaac Clarke is the closest a relatively normal human being could come to The Doom Slayer. All the physical, emotional shit he goes through, the creatures he beats, and the fact that the markers seem to see him as some kind of threat (however minor).
As someone who instantly freezes whenever I see a bug crawl across my floor because I don’t know if it’s a cricket or a scorpion, I am fully aware of my lack of survivability

Back in high school, my buddy and I were doing a “co-op” style of Dead Space. He was the eyes and ears (he wore headphones) and I was the body, he’d direct where sounds were coming from and any enemies in our view
I hope you guys still talk, so you can relive those memories again when the remake drops.

Aah Dead Space. The first game I played using my new 5.1 surround home theater setup at the time. Sounded like I had necromorphs crawling in my walls and vents. Girlfriend was not a fan. Seriously though, the sound work in that game is exceptional. I’ve always been the type that notices and appreciates music in games, to the point that I play them on piano, however Dead Space is the first game that I took real notice of the SFX and atmosphere work.
Hope they make a part 4 and go back to there roots while also making it more scarier
Same here. Honestly, I still haven't played 3 yet. I remember reading things about it prior to release that disappointed me, like it becoming more of an action game or something. And something about coop.

MaeIifia on Xbox One! That does break my heart. Maybe one day the IP will get picked up by a different studio. Like Silent Hill, except actually make games that do the original work justice. One can hope.
When I was 15, during an 8 week long holiday from school, I was nocturnal.
I had never played Dead Space before, but I played all 3 from 11pm to 5:30am every day over about a week or so, headphones on lights off.
It was an incredible experience. Truly a great series. 3 was alright though.
The psychological warfare alone would break most people, I cant imagine stacking the physical strain on top of that.

He also had to deal with the guilt that he was responsible for his girlfriend's death, started having hallucinations of said dead girlfriend, and eventually needed to end said hallucinations to get rid of a marker. If it wasn't for Ellie being there at the end to pull Isaac out, he would've just sat there perfectly content for the blast to kill him.
Jesus, someone give this man a hug, he's been through absolute hell.
Just in the first hour of dead space alone, he survived so much more than anyone could. Unless it was like Doomguy or something.

If confronted with a necromorph (Deadspace) or demon (Doom) apocalypse, I wouldn't even bother trying to fight it. I would just find a gun and off myself. At least it would be quick and less gruesome than the deaths in either one of those games.
If the most experienced veteran can have PTSD, the normal-everyday folks wouldn't be able to handle the mind-fuckery being done to them by the markers. Also as a side note, if a religion has the word "indoctrination" being plastered on one of their religious buildings or even promotes (f*cking) murder, then I think that's the que to rethink about handing in your "free buffet upon joining" card.
Ironically food was a driver in the game. I do believe resources were scarce for stuff like food. So having someone offer you bread would've made you not think 2x.
If it isn't seems like one of those subtext things especially with the cannibalizer necromorphs who were regular miners who ate infected flesh to survive.
There has not been a single moment in my 19 years of life on this planet where I thought I could take on even a single necromorph. Thanks for explaining tho

@@i_shot_a_pig i think theres like a log back in Dead Space one where there was a survivor where he came up with that idea i don't remember much about the log but i think he said something that has to do with "i can't become one of them" or something like that so he legit cut of all of his limbs so he won't become one of them (Slashers) but in Dead Space's reality necromorphs have the ability to mutate other corpses to become big and more dangerous monstrosities.

You forgot to mention that Necromorphs are somewhat adaptive to technology and can utilize them as well, as those soldiers did in DS1 where the stasis drive molded with their flesh and allowed them to have superspeed
There's also the Fodders in DS3 who can even use human weapons like guns and axes

10:32 Earth Government actually didn't kill Altman, it's explained in the Martyr novel that Altman actually despises necromorphs and Unitology as a religion, and that he was assassinated by Unitology believers who needed a martyr to kickstart the religion. They killed him by trapping him in a room with a few corpses(which would reanimate into a brute) and they gave him a spoon to defend himself as a cruel joke, then framed it as an Earth Gov assassination.
The entirety of Unitology is a lie built upon lies, it's a false religion in the lore.

You forgot one pivotal detail. Isaac never spoke in dead space 1. Yet when he "hallucinated" His dead significant other, Kendra and necromorphs were both able to see her. Meaning that if the markers wanted to, they could make practical holographs by giving multiple people and necromorphs the same halucination. Imagine a chapter where you have to figure out who is the illusion by looking at camera feed as technology, although staticky, would be the only reliable way to tell.

Kendra never saw Nicole as a hallucination, only in the video log Isaac plays in the begining. Which is how Kendra knew she was dead.
She knew Isaac was hallucinating because she knew he was only playing a part of the video and not the whole, and he did that over and over again.

@@zendakongaming5159 they explained in the remake that the maker manipulated Isaac by projecting Nicole's face onto Elizabeth cross.
The devs themselves stated that the remake only expands on the lore and doesn't change it, so Nicole actually being cross when we see her is canon even in the original.

Love how a character in the game revealed why we never see any other alien species in any of the games; life in space is literally dead, extinct. Each Moon is made from the bodies of a different alien species, and humanity is the last species to get assimilated.

Yes, but such a concept is limited. ALL of space, all of the universe -- the Milky Way galaxy alone -- and you're telling me that the Necromorphs assimilated everything? Not only is the chances of that almost 0, but, with ALL things considered, it is practically impossible. Hell, the Alliance of Mass Effect 3 could even completely rapeee the Necromorphs, so could the advanced races of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. It's almost ludicrous. I'm not rreally saying this at you, Skull. Just thinking outloud, mostly.

They did, but they managed to expand on the lore and make the story more immersive.
Dead Space was such a special situation for me. My friend had recommended to me and let me borrow it but hadn't explained what it was. I had no idea it was a zombie or horror game at all. I literally hadn't really put much thought into it. I suppose i thought it was more of an adventure game a the very least. So i was completely surprised when i started playing it. I literally could not comprehend what was happening as I was playing. When you turn on the computer and necromorphs enter the other room, it felt like something out of a nightmare, and then you realize they are in your room now and you have no weapons. I was freaking out 120% and couldn't understand what was happening. the room's dark and your getting hit by monsters you can't see clearly. And then you enter the elevator and you see one up close. It took me 8-10 months to play this game. Every time something crazy would happen I would get freaked out and call it a day. I absolutely love this game and realize this is probably the best way to get into it.
That and if you were a dumbass like me, played it for a while with your wireless headphones the wrong way for EXTRA spookyness >.>

@@thomasg2488 Nah, the infection is selective. Bodies missing limbs can only be used as corruption or used as biomass for larger combined necromorphs. There’s an example of this in the games. If you enter a room with corpses, and there’s an infectior, theyll infect the corpses. But if you stomp the limbs off the corpses, the infector won’t even bother infecting them because they don’t contain enough biomass on their own to create a deadly necromorph. At best they would be used probably as a cyst or wall guardian

@@Ajay-dy3xw Perhaps, but we see that your environment and circumstances of death and wether infection happens during life or after your dead changes a lot as to what the necromorph becomes. Roanoke does a great series on every single necromorph and that’s one of the prevailing themes. So, we don’t see any necromorphs that are limbless besides the wall guardians really. Otherwise they’ll probably be used for what I said, larger necromorph like the tripod, or like wall guardians and cysts or just used as corruption material. The corruption material is human DNA (as said by a scientists audio log in dead space 2 on the Ishumura after it was taken to titan station to be researched)
If the necromorphs don't get you the insanity will.

Modern-day weapons against Necromorphs would barely have any effect unless they're something like conventional missile launchers or grenades, and flamethrowers. Bullets are usually piercing, and that means they aren't good for dismemberment. Isaac had the plasma cutter at the start which is why he was able to survive fairly early on.
Actually any high caliber gun like 50cal and above would fuck necromorphs up really really bad. I also recommend a healthy application of explosives and incendiary weapons.

@Mike Ross Agreed with the wounding effects but the problem is, not all the standard infantry units carry .50 BMG anti-materiel rifles, and even then, they're terrible for working in closed spaces and storage.
Despite this video being a little old, I'll point out that every civilization across the universe is different. There might be some tiny detail or collection of details, causing a chain reaction that gives us a chance. Or, well, not even us necessarily, but life.

Seems prior the previous alien race left us a checkpoint. From there the researchers reverse engineered and learned from them.

I could see people learning yo be able to hunt and kill moons but only by doing something extreme like opening up a black hole or making a star explode. Mining a moon and hurling chunks of it into the sun or a star etc. Not before losing millions of people or more. But we would survive and in a way become the apex civilization while other alien life forms started to flourish.
Sorta like what happens in humanity lost. People start a war with aliens and win but at a heavy cost with the help of a powerful A.I.

I could survive maybe a basic zombie invasion. Slow zombies should be simple, fast zombies are more up in the air. But the moment those zombies start getting special abilities, like extendable tongues, crawling through vents, or fists the size of a humvee? Nah I'm a dead man.

Anyone with medical experience would be the docs and everyone who comes in from the outside is strip checked, you decline, you take a bullet, you get bitten then you get a choice of shot there and then or taken to a room to say goodbyes, have the best meal the camp can mustet and lay you to rest. Don't have a plan for humans yet though...

Even if you remove the hallucination that the Markers have on people, the amount of animals the would turn into necromorphs is astounding. Cats and dogs in urban places would be really troublesome, now throw in birds and rats and it's impossible to get away now.

One of the things I liked about Dead Space was that Isaac wasn't a soldier. He didn't start with a military grade weapon either. He was an engineer, a mere civilian, but, he managed to survive.
when he melees a necromorph it proves that fighting one only for the average person is unlikely, but feasible, and fighting 2 at a time and winning is barely possible unless you're jacked. fighting any more than that would require a weapon of some sort

I feel like if we're dealing with the necromorphs specifically with the knowledge of the creatures, that anyone that's played dead space will work together to spread the information around the world of what the markers are for and hopefully force any markers found to be locked away or destroyed. If any government refuses to heed the warnings and uses it then causes the production of necromorphs the quarantine of the location and possible nuking and clean up of surviving necromorphs should be carried out. This is hoping the rest of the world is smart enough to know this is to protect us all.

The funny fact is that when you cumulate all the stories of the dangers present in space, then in the end if Humanity is not so stupid, we will be able to avoid these problems.
1. Like for example if you see eggs in an abandonned ship, just destroy them or keep them in a high security cargo, and have a heavy protection suit.
2. If you see an unknow marker somehow giving you infinite energy, just wait for several years to see if some test subjects staying near it don't turn into some shitty killing monsters.

That's fair. Necromorphs are a pain in the ass to kill and are sporting some level of super-human strength and stamina, even for grunts.
Isaac's plot armor is as thick as his actual armor is. He's smart enough to do a bunch of stuff, smart enough to not instantly be driven crazy by the markers and runs into / had gear that allowed him to manage them.
6:48 soldiers are actually taught to aim for the Torso, since it usually is the largest and easiest target.
And stuffed with Vital Organs, making it the ideal target.
He is wrong, yeah, but it doesn't change its point. If you shot a necromorph in the torso, it would still shrugg it off.

DS3 coop went HARD. Instead of pewpewpew both duo army of 2 sorta coop, one of you sees things differently. Makes for good mic convos late at night with a buddy specially when you start shooting at things that are not there for them but is for you.

I actually have a theory: so here it goes…I think the Marker made Isaac to powerful. By the end of DS1, he lived to tell the tale, in DS2, he survived yet again but destroyed his 2nd Marker. In DS3, Danik coined the term: “Marker Killer” Isaac is capable of building them and destroying them, making him a direct threat to the Marker. I truly wish we got a DS4, cause by the end of DS3 Awakened, the Brotherin Moons, but that could have been a hallucination by Isaac & Carver. It could have been fake cause he defeated the demons of the Marker in Awakened. But I believe that EA was the true marker cause they killed their own story. EA and it’s staff are the enemies.

I was 13 when I played the first Dead Space on my 360. I remember it being too much for me to handle at the time until I picked it back up the summer going into my freshman year of high school and loved it! It provided an amazing challenge as well as maintaining a well thought story line. When I beat it and unlocked every achievement I knew it was my favorite series. Then Dead Space 2 came out and I still couldn't get over the game. Dead Space 3 introduced creating your own unique weapons which was pretty damn cool and even further continues the lore. I still remember beating it and the DLC wondering when Dead Space 4 would come out and still to this day am depressed at the fact that it probably won't ever become a reality... How can they not continue the series after finding out there were many more moons than just the one?! Dead Space 4 would have been on Earth which is something I really wanted to see for my own eyes so badly. I hope one day this game becomes popular again and sparks some inspiration in the developers to at least make a Dead Space 4 continuing from where we left off on Dead Space 3 and actually put an end to the Necromorphs for good. That is something that needs to happen and if anyone agrees leave a like and comment please. If you are a true fan I know you have things to say about this topic. Maybe this is what we have to do to get the final chapter to the series. #DeadSpace4
Many gamers were unsatisfied with how Dead Space 3 turned out and seemed to really lose interest. They should have made Isaac a secondary character who helped on the sidelines, then created a new protagonist(s) who lacked his level of experience with the Necromorphs. Then it could have recreated a similar feeling to the first game where the PC(s) are ill prepared for the horrors ahead. Unfortunately, instead the pacing of the game changed into a stereotypical shoot-em up style game with combat focused more on action rather than suspense.
Dead Space is a sci fi universe I enjoy researching from time to time. Similarly to you, I wish they had continued with a fourth game to conclude the series. Unfortunately, due to the design changes presented with Dead Space 3's less horror based gameplay, most demand for another game has died down. It is very difficult to go from a battle hardened nerd to being a helpless and poorly equipped bystander. I think that latter character type is necessary for a successful Dead Space game.
If we are lucky, we may get a reboot in the future. However, I fear that continuing the series absent the necessary hype is a business decision EA is unlikely to make. Anyway, it was a great game series in my opinion. The conclusion of it is best left to fan speculation and theories

The Necromorphs don't Re-Die they just take enough bodily damage to be considered useless to the marker signal to be able to continue their goal. When you severe the limbs the marker signal just stops for that necromorph and they either break down becoming the "growth" or get collected to become a bigger necromorph.
