the sad thing is this story is so straight forward but could have been amazing, master chief is turned an outlaw due to his inability to save lives from (the covenant and every other enemy in the game) so in return spartan locke is sent to remove master chief from existence until they realize they only have one enemy
This kind of dialogue + them in their power armor just reminds me of the same dramatic attitude gundam has lol. And being encased in super advanced tech.
Spartan Locke not only had the potential to be a formidable adversary for chief but I think he even had the potential to outright be a threat. Disregarding completely what we saw in the game and going only based off his introduction in this trailer I perceived his character to be not only to be ruthless but even vengeful based on his dialogue as if the chief wronged him personally in some way. Now how? Well this could be left to a lot of fan brainstorming and I personally as much as I like Locke am so disappointed to see how he was used in the game. He almost felt like a compliant errand boy for Oni rather than this cold calculating hunter of master chief like he seems in this trailer. I am as of now still trying to come up with a reason as to why Locke has a personal vendetta against chief but if this is the case for this version of Locke we could’ve gotten I’m sure that the UNSC would’ve exploited this grudge against chief and use it as their way of getting chief not back as like in custody as we saw Locke try to do in the game but outright assassinate him as chief was already perceived as a huge threat especially since “going rogue.” Locke not only would have taken up this mission of hunting down and killing chief with a cold and calculated plan for efficiency but also with a degree of hatred. He could’ve been given a backstory being that as like a mistake that came back to haunt chief. An unintentional consequence of a decision chief made which would be the catalyst for spawning the hatred, the vengeance, and the want to destroy chief within Spartan Locke while keeping his allegiance with the UNSC while also giving us reasons to like Locke. This could’ve made for a great conflicting feeling for players as they would grow on Locke as they played as him and follow him throughout the campaign seeing not only what he’s capable of but why he fights, why he became an assassin for oni, why he was chosen and became a Spartan, and of course why he hated chief. It would’ve given much more depth for his character and this sort of Anti-hero aura to him rather than the de facto good guy aura that chief has to him. In addition I feel like one of the subtle ways they could’ve done this for Locke is making him a solitary hunter rather than giving him his own squad. I can see why they did that for him in the game and the characters within his squad were cool but I feel like it didn’t give enough wiggle room to personalize with Locke and really hammer in that mysterious, hunter like personality for him. I always smile when I see Lockes interaction with the arbiter in the game and he is referred to as “a hunter, a seeker of things” because it makes me think “damn he really could’ve been like that and his personality could’ve even reflected that statement greatly but for some reason no it was decided he’d just be a good little soldier doing the UNSC’s dirty work.” Locke had so much potential and I’m gonna see if I can maybe write something up to really give his background that potential I see and bring it out. But I don’t know this seems like a big task but one I’m willing to explore. I love this video as an introduction to Locke because it showed us something that he could’ve been, an anti-master chief of sorts. Kinda like an opposite to chief like the arbiter used to be but rather than them growing some type of friendship like the arbiter and chief did they maybe could create a working relationship strictly of of professional necessity against greater threats while acknowledging each others skill and respecting each other as rivals and soldiers. I don’t know, I’d like to know what others think and see who’s on the same boat.

halo 5 was just a fan fiction out of season april fools joke. Do not worry, as a microsoft representative i confirm these trailers take place in halo infinite
Who knows with the new Infinite leaks I’m pretty sure that Locke will be in the game and a lot of the halo 5 trailers were set in 2560 which is a few months after halo 5.
Man, this trailer was the final straw in convincing my parents into preordering the game for me, when we never saw something like this we were actually bummed down for a while ):
Spartan locke: "all hail the conquering hero. Let us remember him as our protector & not the one who gave us...this. As our savior & not our betrayer! Let us see him forever as you & not as you. All hail the conquering. The one who was supposed to save us all! But know this, I must save us from you."
I really think they were going to try and make it so you had two possible endings where you have to choose if Chief survives or Locke replaces him and came to their senses at the last minute.
It just dawned on me how this could still fit in the lore. Cortana's been the master chief's AI for years, so it'd make... some sense if people took Chief going AWOL to find Cortana followed by Cortana turning on humanity and made the false assumption chief was in on it. Granted, it'd take alot of mental Gymnastics on Locke's part to turn on Chief after Halo 5
THEORY: chief finds a way to reverse the effect of the composer on cortanna, in an attempt to make her a living human, but the remains of the gravemind are still hidden in her data and when she is reverse composed a flood infection breaks out! This was just an idea and is unlikely as we have seen a lot of the flood and re hashing it may not work.
@@taddonddat2217 Eight years have passed since I penned this, and it's astonishing how time flies. I think many of us would concur that the narrative trajectory took a downturn post-Halo 3. While it's possible that 343 Industries simply continued with Bungie's original storyboards, considering Bungie's eagerness to distance themselves from Halo, I'm sceptical about the depth of effort dedicated to world-building and character development thereafter. If I were in 343's shoes, I would deeply immerse myself in the lore, crafting a unique tale for Chief, infused with profound themes: the passage of time, the responsibility of mentorship, tragic love, biblical existential quandaries, and the looming dread of cosmic horror. Yet, what we received were titles like Halo 4, 5, and Infinite. While Infinite might have recaptured some quintessential Halo sandbox moments and combat scenarios, its narrative failed to captivate me. When it comes to gameplay, there seems to be a disconnect in replicating the pace and ambience of the earlier instalments. Nowadays, my engagement with video games has waned, though I occasionally indulge in the spectacle of the latest God of War release. Similarly, my enthusiasm for Halo has dimmed.
Would have been much better if they made it like this. Locke holding pistol to Cheif and behind him you see Noble 6 holding a pistol to Locke. That would have blown people's minds.
No, what would've been awesome is if they let the Rookie from ODST live and have him holding a pistol to Locke's head. Sadly, Rookie died off screen, as a nameless, mute, not-so-heroic, hero who died a somewhat pathetic death.
Nah we have Noble 6 holding the gun to locke, then Rookie holding the gun to Noble 6, then Emile holding a gun to Rookie, then Buck holding a gun to Emile, then Arbiter stabs all of them
@@alduintheanti-dragonborn you know, as much as I dont like rookie being dead, there's something poetic about his death being the one to drive the team apart and evantually half of them becoming Spartans. Like a metaphor or something, idk I'm looking too much into it. I still loved New blood, Buck was a great narrator/protagonist.
Too bad the game wasn’t like this. Should’ve been you choose sides but from a game developer side maybe in their mind they figured everyone would’ve picked chief over locke but if you made the player build a bond with Locke by playing with him in the beginning and having depth to the character it would’ve made more sense to go a route such as this trailer to some.
Everyone’s saying it’s nothing like the game, but it’s exactly like the game. He says “Let us remember him as our savior and not the one who gave us this”. he didn’t give us this cause *this* never happened!

This kind of dialogue + them in their power armor just reminds me of the same dramatic attitude gundam has lol. And being encased in super advanced tech.
0:57 ''The truth is never what it seems.''
Me after playing Halo 5's campaign: *...you can say that again pal*
I guess we were hunting the truth of what the game was about
I like how even without playing it, the comments really do explain what disaster the game holds
Noble 6 would have been a threat. Spartan Locke is like a grunt compared to Chief
@@thelostspectre4694except he's not he's an oni spec ops agent Locke is no slouch the fact that so many people think chief would roll through him like he's nothing but that's not the case at all
"All hail the conquering hero!"
- Better then the false one
There’s actually a very deep hidden metaphor within this trailer. Spartan Locke= the halo community and Chief= 343 lol
Soooo when does the actual game come out???
halo 5 was just a fan fiction out of season april fools joke. Do not worry, as a microsoft representative i confirm these trailers take place in halo infinite
@@vincentwitt1810 Proof?
@@francisco8299 that's a joke man
Who knows with the new Infinite leaks I’m pretty sure that Locke will be in the game and a lot of the halo 5 trailers were set in 2560 which is a few months after halo 5.
@@jsiabot3467 this didn't age well
Locke vs Chief represent 343i vs Bungie when Destiny was released.
Chief vs Locke represent Bungie vs 343i when Halo 5 was released.
Pretty fair comment.
Because AT LEAST what 343 done right it's Halo 4 which i think is a masterpiece.
Man, this trailer was the final straw in convincing my parents into preordering the game for me, when we never saw something like this we were actually bummed down for a while ):
This made me hype for a game that never had this in game
0:46 I can't help but laugh at the way he poses
I could've came up with a killer freakin storyline based off of these trailers alone
Love how his hud says br but he's using a dmr. Dudes at 343 don't know the difference between the guns in this game lololol.
Knowing them that might just be another art style change
Wow, I never noticed that.
Spartan locke: "all hail the conquering hero. Let us remember him as our protector & not the one who gave us...this. As our savior & not our betrayer! Let us see him forever as you & not as you. All hail the conquering. The one who was supposed to save us all! But know this, I must save us from you."
when this first came out I though Locke was going to be a rogue spartan who was hunting Chief on the covenants behalf.
when this came out i trought Locke was the multiplayer spartan lol
Mike Colter, spartan and Luke cage, truly amazing
I really think they were going to try and make it so you had two possible endings where you have to choose if Chief survives or Locke replaces him and came to their senses at the last minute.
i was to poor to afford halo 5 after playing halo 4 so much and i was so excited for this huntdown, did this story line ACTUALLY never play out
These two trailers were for far better games than what we got.
I make it my headcanon
If only this was halo 5
THEORY: chief finds a way to reverse the effect of the composer on cortanna, in an attempt to make her a living human, but the remains of the gravemind are still hidden in her data and when she is reverse composed a flood infection breaks out! This was just an idea and is unlikely as we have seen a lot of the flood and re hashing it may not work.
BenAddict19 that not how you spell her name its COR-TA-NA
Amaz gaming okay, thanks
What do you think about the game now that it's been released for a few years now?
Nah we have Noble 6 holding the gun to locke, then Rookie holding the gun to Noble 6, then Emile holding a gun to Rookie, then Buck holding a gun to Emile, then Arbiter stabs all of them
Noble 6 is dead (:
@@alduintheanti-dragonborn you know, as much as I dont like rookie being dead, there's something poetic about his death being the one to drive the team apart and evantually half of them becoming Spartans. Like a metaphor or something, idk I'm looking too much into it. I still loved New blood, Buck was a great narrator/protagonist.
Let this franchise be remembered as you
*The Bungie games*
and NOT as YOU
*The 343 games*
This trailer was the entire reason I bought Halo 5. Imagine my surprise when the product was nowhere near what it was advertised as being.
So what are the odds there was a massive rewrite after these trailers were released?
I just noticed Locke weapon HUD shows a battle rifle but he's actually holding a dmr
Wow this Locke is infinitely more interesting and would have been cool to play as.
Microsoft should of been sued for false advertisement
I remember this as the most hated and fake trailer in the history by 343
Hunt the refund
One day before Infinite gameplay reveal. This looked amazing for halo 5 story
Man I really thought Locke was gonna be some really cool Bounty Hunter
The ultimate false marketing.
Brooo this were the days, I miss 2015.
This video: When the marketing team does a better job then the game developers.
It's a lot easier to make a story appear good in trailers than it is to write a good story.
This could’ve been one of the best campaigns in the franchise, close to halo 2s or reach’s campaign, but we got what we got unfortunately...
The idea of a Spartan killing a legendary Spartan till this day grinds my gears.
The truth is never what it seems
I couldn't agree more
God this trailer still gives me goosebumps
Everyone’s saying it’s nothing like the game, but it’s exactly like the game. He says “Let us remember him as our savior and not the one who gave us this”. he didn’t give us this cause *this* never happened!
Still didnt finish the game. And I grew up to halo!
Damn this game looks awesome. Can't wait to play this!
MWHAHAHAHAHAAH, hope you have fun!
@@Anonymous-yq6wy I will. Thanks for the comment!
This trailer was so bad lol. "All hail the concurring hero"
