- "Dreams of Reason Produce Monsters" is Mick Karn's second solo album and features him playing a variety of woodwinds and basses, as well as keyboards and drums.
"When Love Walks In" is one of the two tracks that feature lyrics and vocals (by David Sylvian, Karn's former bandmate in Japan) are the most memorable. They emphasize the interplay between Karn's sinuous fretless playing and Sylvian's sonorous voice to good effect.
His way of playing bass guitar gave the world ears and made music alive. Thanks for all! R.I.P.
Mick Karn was probably one of the most original bassists ever. I'm in constant awe of his sense of rhythm and melody. His untimely death was an absolute tragedy.
Gone but not forgotten
He was amazing.
ajhoncantara not the best, but I understand.
Just one of the best.....Sad he left us so soon...
Bought my first bass a week after Karn died…
alongtime
When I was a kid and life got too hard to bear I would lock myself in my room and listen to Japan and all my troubles and problems would fade away. For that, I thank you Mick. You made my childhood bearable.... God bless you.
p'Lay loo ard'r as PLAY LAUD
Never could Shuffle & Play Bass as Mick Karn. Sorry.
It’s so sad he is not around...what a legacy though
RIP Mick - one of the best and most original fretless bass players ever!
His music lives on.
I have met this lovely man quite a few times int 80's and was so lovely/polite/interesting and pretty. I also stroked his face. He was my brothers friend and I was 8 yrs old. I am now nearly 40 and he's still beautiful
Which one did you know? 😎
Mick or David? 😎
mick or david??
This track is sublime.... The chilling haunting sounds of the late Mick Karn and the poetic, hypnotic artistry of David Sylvian's soft, mysterious voice.... It's just soo original, in a way many of today's artists cannot match, it's in a league of its own and if released today it sounds as killer fresh as I am sure it did back then... Dreams of Reason Produce Monsters is always on my playlist at home, Karn's phenomenal talent just blows me away, he played soo many instruments, he was a true genius.
nebula days Thank you for sharing your suggestion, that's really kind of you🎶 My older brother loves Dali's Car and I can understand why, it's more raw and contains a lot of forefront of percussion. When I listened to two of the tracks just now, I can clearly hear that System of a Down were fans, I was quite intrigued to hear soo many references from Dali's Car in their work, so thankyou for the suggestion, I learnt something more today!
I just admire mick awfully. He and dave were unbeatable. I love this number. . thanks
These two allways made the best music when collaborating RIP Mick.
Micks fretless bass - superb.
so this is what japan would have sounded like had they stayed together. magical.
So sad to see our favourite musicians pass away suffering from a senseless disease. The good thing is, that their Music and influence will live on for ever...
Seeing these lovely photos of this duo and knowing that this era cannot be repeated is hurting so much but we still have this music to listen to. This is so soothing.
A God given talent who provided us with a unique sound that will resonate forever.
Great to meet the lady behind the film...It was years ago i first saw this and cried...Bless you and great to have such a special person with us on Team Mick Karn love and hugs Penelope xx
the genius of Mick Karn
This is the first time i have heard this in years, it has aged well, they were a dream team.
I miss those times so much..... the 80s etc... when I watch these clips with my bottle of wine I get so nostagic..
Absolutely sublime bass playing on this track from the late, much missed and brilliant Mick Karn.
japan will always be one and only
Bel Mac yes true class
O, what memories they make...
Phenomenal pair........................love..................
R.I.P. dear Mick. These are all lovely pictures of Mick and David. Well done!
Yes
both of them Mr.Karn and Mr. Sylvian are pure genius!

The only duo I believe that should have never parted. They always were the essence of Japan. Who knows what wonderful music they would made just the two of them...
Steve and Rich?
This song is the best colaboration with David. RIP Mick.
Thanks to you for watching and these beautiful words for David & Mick

nice, i remember the 80´ies, als David Sylvian und Mick Karn Musik Teil meines Lebens waren ... Schön sie hier zu hören!!
Daumen hoch!
When love walks in, it truly changes your whole world. Thank you, Strapper, for changing mine for the better. Our love is something special. 118 my darling. Saffy Lolita xxx [Rest in peace, Mick, the greatest fretless bass player of all time.]
There'll be tomorrow's given time
Just close your eyes and leave this all behind...
RIP Mick Karn.
Thanks for opening my eyes mick ..i miss the moment you were around R.I.P
A plea for a friend...Back in '78, a gal I worked with knew I loved Bowie and said,"Here. Listen to this." JAPAN's Adolescent Sex. I didn't take it off my turntable for 2 months. They've been my favorite band ever since. Able to find a full collection of all their work over the years...but...never another fan! I've felt so alone in the joy they give me. Just want to say "Howdy!" to someone who's got "Wish You Were Black" on their ipod or whatever. No foolin'..."Rhodesia"?...anybody???
Howdy. I had one other friend as a teen who "got" them but not to the same level as me of aquiring every album and release of Japan and each of the solo, duo and trio projects. Got given Quiet Life by my sister who borrowed a vinyl copy from the radio station she worked at. Then bought Obscure Alternatives, then whatever else popped up in one of the local second hand record shops (not much money as a 15 yo!).
15,000 tracks in my iTunes library, 90% of which is converted from my CD collection but only have JBK on there, no Japan! Have not transferred my vinyl. Stoopid, coz all I listen to is my phone and iPod these days. Have reignited my Japan roots on UA-cam only in the last few months!
howdy!!
I love the way Karn's and Sylvian's voices beautifully merge and harmonize toward the song's end; how symbolic of such an exquisite collaboration.
Thanks for posting!
When two continents collide the results can be devastating. Probably best to meet in the middle... Sometimes this happens, but ultimately they both can't survive too close to each other.
This is one of my favourite songs. I love the combination of vocals and bass. Magic. Truly gifted.
I have... no words...
What a great bassist. May he rest in peace.
R.I.P. Mick...awesome bass sound from you. Your mix with David here is PRICELESS.
I was brought up to this music, it's in my veins, it's not music, it's a way of thinking and a way of life and i'm proud to be like that inspite these ugly times!
You defined a lot for me ... I found my self In a different world
Thank you so much for your nice words
i made this video just because i love this song for so long and
because always wanted to do a "Tribute" to Dave & Mick!
Im glad that you like it as much i do

Japan fabulous, Mick fabulous x
Mick Karn is an inspiration for all forms of expression in art/music ----- very few people can say they have a definite style that is their own. Thank you, Mick for sharing it with us !!! RIP
I had a lot of this stuff going on my self working on but I still try to bring some of it back. Its still here thanks to him its hard to change music today 2018 I think I am the only one to do it bring back that sounds
amazing song !
i dunno why such two amazingly talented people should be be more successfull. mick and david you are the best please bring back that magic.
Hardiestgirl2012--I know I might have commented about how much I love this video in the past (can't remember & there are 224 comments now) but I stumbled upon this today again and wow! I simply love it so much! I can never get enough of David and Mick as together they were magic! :)
Amazing music this..
2 of the best bassists of all time IMHO are Mick Karn and Geddy Lee of Rush. The synergy of Sylvian and Karn was sublime. To compare them to Duran Duran or Spandeau Ballet is like comparing a Picasso to a kids colouring book.
+Apartment Gumtree what about Chris Squire. is one of the greatest . and there are others too may be you don't know "YES" incomparable
Efrain Mcshell Sure enough, I was just expressing my own opinion which is what people generally do on UA-cam and Social media.
+Apartment Gumtree Percy Jones and Jaco Pastorious
+Alexander DeWolf Thx will check them out Mr Alexander
if there is a GREAT bass player for all times not comparing because he was so great, CHRIS SQUIRE form YES. Another one was Mr JACO PASTORIUS.
Brings back nostalgic memories of Japan at their peak in the early eighties. Karn was particularly cool on his sax and oboe in concert. Great tribute to these great artists :-)
Shouldn't that be titled "Mick Karn with David Sylvian"? It is, after all, Micks album.
shuffle & Play Bass
Love you Mick 🖤
There's something in the air
It's never felt like this before
A turning of the tide
A slamming of the holy doors
I'll find myself a quiet place that no-one's ever seen
A blazing sun will shine upon the road ahead of me
When love walks in
I see it in their eyes
The flames to burn the final straw
The heathen struck the match and lit the fire
A wish fulfilled and nothing more
I'll find myself a quiet place that no-one's ever seen
A blazing sun will shine upon the road ahead of me
When love walks in
Why take me now there's nothing more
Just hold me close and say goodbye
There'll be tomorrow's given time
Just close your eyes and leave this all behind
Then love walks in
Like waves of golden sand
Heavenly floating seas
The power in her hands
Brings mountains to their knees
Nice touch ! Thanks for adding the Lyrics ! x

Great music. Nuff said. So listen....
Great music. Totally unique.
Mi mette in pace con il mondo, fantastico pezzo.
I love Mick Karn's phrasing, there's no one like him!
Sublime
Sublime, indeed
💜🤘🏾ALL HAIL DAVID SYLVIAN AND JAPAN🤘🏾💜
R.I.P. MICK KARN 🎸
Oh David oh David T_T You are too beautiful and so is your voice... Mick sounds still brilliant as ever!!!
Thanks for uploading the video! And as your profile background is full of David Sylvian... it is such a pleasure to my eyes... THANKS YOU!!!
R.I.P Mick Karn!
Love this so much, it's so damn ethereal.
Fantastic! I never listened to this album before. Now I'm drowning in my nostalgia. Thanks.
A lot of the lovely pictures...Thanks for posting so much !
Thank you for posting and the wonderful pictures in the clip, many of which I had not even seen before.
Beautiful
Sadly missed. I missed this album, but to judge by this, I'll need to do some shopping. This is gorgeous.
Lovely photo montage. Well done
Thank you !
Magnifique sélection d'images👏
Refreshing to see both musicians at different stages in their careers in your video montage. And Sylvian at 4.08 is a stunning pic of him smiling! He never smiles in current shots. Such a shame because when he does, it seems to completely transform him.
R.I.P 7yrs on 🎸🕊🕆
Thank you for posting this --- great work by MIck & David. Very ironic that 'Love walks in' is the title/chorus and the break-up of Japan was rumored to be partially over a girl both of them were seeing (at different times, separately). I actually like this more than Japan & Rain Tree Crow! Thanks again!
Mick Karn was one of the most talented and in my opinion the coolest bass player ever! From a metal & hard rock fan.
Hehe
yes David is a Handsome man!
Thanks for your comment and for watching!

Brilliant. That is all I can say X
just heard this for the first time - absolutely gorgeous. thank you so much for the pics. takes me back to my youth when i based my whole look on sylvian. never found anyone yet to match these guys.
We were all so lucky to have had such a talent to appreciate. It will be greatly missed.
I love this! ♥
best song i've heard sylvian sing.
there is a line.. past/ present/future. ... They are taking us to a different sound!
Excellente...
Hi Nabi-san, this great clip was put on a Dutch newspaper site! De Limburger is the name of the newspaper. I was also quite touched seeing it again, so thanx ever so much dear!
And relax karn n sylvian memories
I love you both, my dear David and Mick
so beautiful
I always smile at the picture where Mick is wide-eyed and smiling! He was such a gorgeous man in his days, but will forever be a role model to me and the most talented person in the world!
Yes, it is sad that David would be so uncaring for Mick, like stealing his girlfriend, but then again David was and still is apparently "up his own ass".
Thanks for posting!
history repeats itself!
Thank you so much for this. This was so well done. The tune is amazing and the pics you've chosen are great! I really wish these guys would just settle their differences and get back together again. *sigh*
My Pleasure!
thanks for watching
I like Japan´s experimental energy.
