Totally agree Amner - David can bend a single string and move a mountain!! My #1 also, he's the Master of the Strat (pretty nice Les Paul here just the same) - started playing in the 60's inspired by The Beatles (whom I saw in 1965 at the Hammersmith) but once David arrived, he was the inspiration no doubt for you also and millions of others. Songs that held a kind and soft warm loving hand up to my downcast face to gently wipe away tears of grief and loss and regret. Music that lifted my soul and spirits. Rhythms that made me incessantly dance with joy and boundless energy. A voice that reminds me of the voice of say perhaps wonderful Jesus or wise and grace-filled St Paul. A kindhearted and intelligent ,articulate, exceptionally talented and humble insightful man who proves time and time again impossible not to fall in love with. A gift that keeps on giving and giving. His stature as a guitarist can cause people to neglect what a good singer he is. I'm not sure about his technical abilities as a vocalist, all I know is I've always loved to hear him sing.
To both you wonderful people@@drdalewisely and @chriscatton705 I can't agree with you more and thanks for putting it so beautifully! The warm blanket, ahhh such a perfect description. Can't tell you just how much it felt good to hear someone sum up exactly how to best describe his voice. Yes, I too have always loved to hear him sing, with or without his magnificent guitar :)
I think it's a great example of how a singer can get around some weaknesses in their voices by emphasizing the strengths. I don't think of him as a power singer. His range is fine, but not extraordinary. It's just a great tone and timbre and a merciful refusal to rely on vocal gimmicks and showing off.
The kids in the Cathedral have listened to a LOT of Pink Floyd and Gilmour since, though! 😁 An honour to sing with you, David, the loveliest man and such a sensitive musician.
@@ChrisLawton66 As a big fan of Gilmour and Pink Floyd, I'm disappointed and angry that Gilmour is releasing sub standard music. Any objective analyses of this song, in relation to what Gilmour has done in the past, will demonstrate that this song is just a half assed, unsuccessful, attempt to slap together something that sounds like Pink Floyd in their prime. The Choirs, the guitar, the yearning vocals, it's got it all, except a decent melody, and/or a hook of any kind. I get it, people love Gilmour and they'll accept anything, without question. But, it's time to admit the truth, we love you Dave, but stick to the old stuff, you've lost the mojo.
@@SaintKimbo the only truth that needs to be admitted is that you have an opinion and so do other people. They don't match. Big deal. Let people like what they say they like and you move on.
@@ChrisLawton66 I get it, you idolize Gilmour, and that's understandable, he's was a great talent a few decades ago. But everything comes to an end, and that spark of creativity wanes, and the physical ability degenerates as time rolls on, and old age catches up. Better that I slowly bring you to that realization, rather than you be shocked at the sudden truth, when your rose colored glasses finally slip off. Just trying to help, you don't have to thank me.
I heard some people making speculations about led zeppelin as there was a "black dog" so just to point it out, There is some lyrics about a piper in stairway to heaven
@@billhunt659 C'mon... Didn't you ever think that all of that - including 1972 film "Pied Piper" featuring Donovan, refers to the Pied Piper of Hamelin? The legend dates back to the Middle Ages, and is part of European folkore... Every kid in the Brave Old World should have heard about this story during childhood (maybe not from Generation Z...). Obviously, "Then the Piper will lead us to reason" glimpse in Stairway to Heaven lyrics seem to refer to the very same legend. (more details on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pied_Piper_of_Hamelin and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pied_Piper_(1972_film)).
From the title "Piper" and the first few notes played, I was immediately swept away to early Floyd nostalgia. As the song progressed I heard "More", "Meddle", "Animals", "The Wall" and even "Momentary Lapse of Reason" notes and harmonies. Honestly, first time in a long time I feel chemistry with an artist producing relevant solo work, modernizing their sound while building on their past band work. Well done Mr Gilmour. See you at the Hollywood Bowl!
Come to think of it. David Gilmour in my books is one of the most talented musicians who ever walked this planet....if not the very best. Excellent song!!!
Mr. Gilmore, you are an artist from another dimension and this song is a clear proof of that!!! I wish you many more years to amaze us with your wonderful projects!!! ❤
Me too. I saw him playing that classic black Strat at Pompeii and I thought that's what I wanna do. Now he's playing another favourite of mine, a Les Paul with P-90's. ❤ 🎸
@@CatBlackGuitars I'm happy to know he's playing that gold top since I tend to gravitate towards the LP. Also happy he played his original gold top in Another Brick in the Wall. I wonder what PF would sound like if all his work was on a LP instead of a Strat?
Ever since I was a young girl, I have loved to watch you play. I am now 64 and i still love it just as much! David you are a shining star and a fabulous artist. Thank you so much!!!
I'm 56 years old. You have been a part of my life for so much of it. Of all of the music I listen to, you continue to be at the top of the list. Thank you for continuing to make music that touches my soul. As good as Rattle That Lock and everything else you've ever produced. Let me know if you end up in NM and want to jam. :)
David's eternal youth is not just a promise... His vitality is simply unbelievable. May he have a very long and beautiful life! An inspiration to all of us even at 78.
The amount of love and respect for this man can’t be put into words. All I hope is that he does one final tour in the US, cause it’s a huge goal to see him live.
Saw him just after my 21st birthday front row at the Jay Leno show and got that big beautiful smile from him, then his concert that night, was probably the best day of my life of 39 years. 4/20/06 ❤
Did you get your ticket??? I’m so grateful to get to see him live at least once in my lifetime. I thought it was too late! I suppose I’ll cry when he plays that first note, hahaha “Thank you very much, indeed.”
From the top of my head I can't think of any other artist that DG that keeps on touching my soul with his music and lyrics. I'm grateful to experience his genius in my lifetime.
Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a David Gilmour show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. Hard to explain how awesome that moment was in my life. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.
One of the greatest guitarist of all time. Plays so many different types of guitars, and the Sax on top of that. What else does he play? Love this song. So warm and inviting. Been a big Pink Floyd fan since the late 70's. Have all their albums on LP and CD. The world will be a lesser place once he's gone.
MR GILMOUR thank you soooo much for bringing that sound back,,,its been too far long been missed..i bet the vibe in the studio was off the chain...keep doing what you do, it actually looked like you were enjoying the guitar solo again,,rock on

71 years here, and I wouldn't trade our time in music for anything! We're so incredibly lucky!
Mr David Gilmour you never grow old and your music remains real music
The Connections (2021) [short documentary] 💖💖
Thank You, Mr.Gilmour!
Those kids don’t even know how much that thumbs up means yet 🙌. AMAZING. 79 years old and absolutely dominating
I’m pretty sure that the girl singing is his daughter. I think the kids know what it means.
@@mariblando I love the duet they did - Yes I Have Ghosts. She has a lovely voice and plays harp.
@@mariblando And i'm pretty sure that @markskinner4925 was talking about the kids in the church.
@@mariblando Yes, that's Romany Gilmour.
The kids in the Cathedral have listened to a LOT of Pink Floyd and Gilmour since, though! 😁 An honour to sing with you, David, the loveliest man and such a sensitive musician.
David Gilmour will live forever and will be remembered for 1000s of more generations through his music
Yeah, music he made when he was good, not this schlock.
@@SaintKimboAw, totally unnecessary thing to say. Can't just let someone enjoy something without taking a shit on it, huh?
@@ChrisLawton66
As a big fan of Gilmour and Pink Floyd, I'm disappointed and angry that Gilmour is releasing sub standard music.
@@ChrisLawton66
I get it, you idolize Gilmour, and that's understandable, he's was a great talent a few decades ago.
There will NEVER be another David Gilmour!
No claro que no..tampoco un hendrix ni un bob dylan
There won’t be any mour
nor another robert piavis...
There will NEVER be another robertpaivis6623,either…😉
I recently met someone called David who legally changed his surname to Gilmour but i don't think he can sing or play the guitar like that.😅
New gem and new magic for us ! Thanks David. I don't want to "undo the woodoo that you do " 💗
Still good looking! I'm 63, had a major crush in the 70s.❤
The Piper's Call... at the Gates of Dawn
I do wonder if it's a Syd Tribute
Game over! Farewell song
@@starship2023he already did Shine On You Crazy Diamond with Pink Floyd, I dont think its a Barrett tribute
Mr Gilmour and Mr Knopfler still going strong ❤ How wonderful is that!!!
They are both my biggest heroes. You have my taste of music? Can we be friends 😊
My two favorites.
This guy is not just an extraordinary musician and guitar genius. He is a good man. Kind eyes. Lovely smile. Thanks for all the music he´s done.

Hey there, how are you doing?
From the title "Piper" and the first few notes played, I was immediately swept away to early Floyd nostalgia. As the song progressed I heard "More", "Meddle", "Animals", "The Wall" and even "Momentary Lapse of Reason" notes and harmonies. Honestly, first time in a long time I feel chemistry with an artist producing relevant solo work, modernizing their sound while building on their past band work. Well done Mr Gilmour. See you at the Hollywood Bowl!
Goosebumps yet again. Mr Gilmour is simply the artist of the century.
Can't wait, David! Please tour!
Yeah I want to see him!
🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷 plz🙏🙏🙏
Come down to Australia. I’ve seen Roger twice and Mason once, would love to have a Gilmour tour down here.
😎👍
I wish he comes to Spain too, I would love to see him
Beautiful music from a beautiful artist. Age has not diminished his talent.
Come to think of it. David Gilmour in my books is one of the most talented musicians who ever walked this planet....if not the very best. Excellent song!!!
Music conquers old age,it is timeless.
Gilmour being Gilmour, the best guitar player ever. Greetings from Curitiba/Brazil
Mr. Gilmore, you are an artist from another dimension and this song is a clear proof of that!!! I wish you many more years to amaze us with your wonderful projects!!! ❤
David, Thank you for share your life with all of us, sending my love and admiration from Colombia - South America. God bless you and your family.
He is the sole reason I started learning the guitar. Living legend. So grateful for his existence.
Same with me actually. My uncle introduced me to PF back in the 80's and it inspired me to learn.
@@wiseguy9202 Fab!
Me too.
Hey there, how are you doing?
Let's just sit here and give thanks (twice) that we have David Gilmour
David's eternal youth is not just a promise... His vitality is simply unbelievable. May he have a very long and beautiful life! An inspiration to all of us even at 78.
Gilmour never gets old. Can't wait for the new album👍
The music of David is a gift from the gods
Sir, you are the GOAT and a god. Please don't let the greatness in you die.
The amount of love and respect for this man can’t be put into words. All I hope is that he does one final tour in the US, cause it’s a huge goal to see him live.
All around the world please😢😢😢, in Chile we love him too
Saw him just after my 21st birthday front row at the Jay Leno show and got that big beautiful smile from him, then his concert that night, was probably the best day of my life of 39 years. 4/20/06 ❤
Did you get your ticket??? I’m so grateful to get to see him live at least once in my lifetime. I thought it was too late! I suppose I’ll cry when he plays that first note, hahaha “Thank you very much, indeed.”
Sir David gilmour piease 1 last tour you have thousands of fans waiting for you
Why last??? I don't want last! Waiting for David in Ukraine after our victory!
Probably millions

David Gilmour is just like wine!!
i like the multi generational feel here, feels like a family thing
@alex0589 It literally is...one son and daughter are in there playing and singing.
My dad took me to see PF in 93 or 94...wish he were still here to hear this beautiful tune...Much love/respect Mr. Gilmour❣
It was 1994 and it was the Pulse tour
‘Shine on you crazy diamond.’
😎Coming back to road 😎🎸🤠
From the top of my head I can't think of any other artist that DG that keeps on touching my soul with his music and lyrics. I'm grateful to experience his genius in my lifetime.
Yes, indescribable and no one else has ever done that for me, either. A natural high. ❤️🎸🎵🎤🎶
It is a great song, as expected from a living legend! Thank you very much D.G.!!!!!
I can not believe! Tell me I'm awake and I'm not dreaming.... Thanks David!
ummm... you are not dreaming?
Great stuff!
Fan stories don't get better than that. Thanks for sharing.
David Gilmour has always been the sound of Pink Floyd to me…Shine on…

One of the greatest guitarist of all time. Plays so many different types of guitars, and the Sax on top of that. What else does he play?
Love this song. So warm and inviting.
Been a big Pink Floyd fan since the late 70's. Have all their albums on LP and CD.
The world will be a lesser place once he's gone.
