My #1 also, he's the Master of the Strat (pretty nice Les Paul here just the same) - started playing in the 60's inspired by The Beatles (whom I saw in 1965 at the Hammersmith) but once David arrived, he was the inspiration no doubt for you also and millions of others. I am not much of a wordsmith. It's difficult for me to adequately express my great love for the music, lyrics and authentic artistic passion behind David Gilmour's recordings. They touch me so deeply. I'm 56 and I've been profoundly moved and beautifully moulded by so many of his songs throughout my life. Albums that wrapped me up like a warm blanket on a cold, dark and lonely night. Songs that helped me celebrate births and marriages and personal transformations and spiritual enlightenment. Songs that held a kind and soft warm loving hand up to my downcast face to gently wipe away tears of grief and loss and regret. Music that lifted my soul and spirits. Rhythms that made me incessantly dance with joy and boundless energy. A voice that reminds me of the voice of say perhaps wonderful Jesus or wise and grace-filled St Paul. A kindhearted and intelligent ,articulate, exceptionally talented and humble insightful man who proves time and time again impossible not to fall in love with. A gift that keeps on giving and giving. A sound the ear never tires of. A roaring and confronting truth-teller driven by the spirit of a prophet who lovingly leads us listeners to water and leads us to drink but never abandons us to drown.
I try my best. But the words simply fail me. I love the bloke. I think everyone does. I guess that is what I am trying to say here.
And best of all, his brutal, albeit tender honestly, never tempts me to put him up on a "ROCK GOD" pedestal. David is way way to human for that.
I do think Mr Gilmour has mastered the art of story-telling - That mastery being "SHOW - DON'T TELL".
I do not know the man. That's true. But I don't know Jesus either. And i'm unabashedly besotted with that bloke.
Thus I proclaim my love for David with firm confidence and the greatest of warmth and candour - why not - its only mirroring back to him the themes of his many songs that overtly proclaim their love for me. His love for us. And he doesn't even know me.
PS - I've just re-read this post above to correct about 20 "spellen" mistakes. That "lead us to water and lead us to drink but not lead us to drown" imagery is borrowed....... ahem .... source- less-lly stolen from lyrics by the musical artist (RIP) Mark Heard from his magnificent ........ no wait ..... I think Mark produced the album - by Leslie (SAM) Philips - lyrics from her heartbreakingly sad song "No One But You". I highly recommend Mark Heard music to any Gilmour or Floyd fan. As they say GENIUS IS AS GENIUS DOES.

As a big fan of Gilmour and Pink Floyd, I'm disappointed and angry that Gilmour is releasing sub standard music.
Any objective analyses of this song, in relation to what Gilmour has done in the past, will demonstrate that this song is just a half assed, unsuccessful, attempt to slap together something that sounds like Pink Floyd in their prime.
The Choirs, the guitar, the yearning vocals, it's got it all, except a decent melody, and/or a hook of any kind.
I get it, people love Gilmour and they'll accept anything, without question.
But, it's time to admit the truth, we love you Dave, but stick to the old stuff, you've lost the mojo.

I get it, you idolize Gilmour, and that's understandable, he's was a great talent a few decades ago.
But everything comes to an end, and that spark of creativity wanes, and the physical ability degenerates as time rolls on, and old age catches up.
Better that I slowly bring you to that realization, rather than you be shocked at the sudden truth, when your rose colored glasses finally slip off.
Just trying to help, you don't have to thank me.

Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a David Gilmour show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"...
I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. Hard to explain how awesome that moment was in my life. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen.
I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.
