Bangka PumpBoat gets chopped off and Yamaha Outboard installed Part 5 LAUNCH TIME

  • It's time to launch this boat after modifying it from a internal one cylinder diesel not made for salt conditions to a yamaha enduro outboard on the rear.
We chopped off the tail of the boat and created a transom to hang it on securely. Now it is time to see how it performs.
We are a Fil Am couple sharing our lives between living in Texas USA and Panay Island Philippines. We share dealing with two different cultures, building our solid concrete cast in place home beach side and exploring/ seeking new things. We hope you enjoy and join to be a apart of a bigger family here on this channel.

I would add a safety chain from the outboard to the boat. It slows down theft and stops the motor from going too deep in the water if it comes loose from the transom. Just Sayin

Back in 1990 I was working at the US Embassy Manila and doing a lot of diving at Anilao, Batangas. We had a regular boatman named Max we used but his boat was too small when we started diving with computers and four of us doing three dives per day instead of two. It was also a hassle to negotiate price depending on where we wanted to dive. When we learned Max had built the boat himself we proposed a deal; we would buy all the materials to build a new, bigger 10-meter boat with an upswept bow and square stern like the larger fishing boats. He would build it and work for us for free, then at the end of our tours we would give him the boat free and clear.
He came to Manila and I drove with him to Malabon, north of Manila where we sourced a 4-cylinder Toyota Corolla engine / transmission and the stainless steel shafting and plate needed to construct the propeller and rudder I transported in the back of my Pajero SUV. Max had to go to Mindoro to find a log big enough for the keel Every trip there to dive during construction I brought more supplies and in about three months we had a new boat with storage for 18 tanks under the floorboards and plenty of room for as many as six divers.
During the planning I suggested we use an Isuzu diesel engine like the ones used in Jeepneys but Max vetoed the idea saying it would be too heavy and take too many people to haul in and out of the water. He also vetoed the idea of a three bladed prop explaining two bladed props were used so they could be turned sideways when beaching the boat, preventing damage.
It was a very positive win-win experience. Total cost of materials was under $2,000 and we were spared all the hassles other ex-pats had experienced with theft and lack of maintenance. Max loved the deal because we only used the boat every other weekend and the rest of the time he was free to use it for fishing and transporting other divers. It was a very popular boat because it was the biggest in the area and very sea worthy. We took it from Batangas to Puerto Gallera on Mindoro without any problem.

Your motor is in perfect position (I watched closely)...... Cavitation plate above the prop should be equal to/a little above the bottom of boat..... Yours is..... Don't forget to bolt that motor on...... As a boat repair shop owner, I've seen many fall off (never to be seen again) when they were only clamped on.... you can extend the tiller handle/throttle, with a piece of pvc pipe.... So you can stand up and drive if necessary/want to.......

It reminds me the outboard motor installed in a bangka boats in the 60s , popular outboard motor is the Evenrude , Volvo penta , Johnson , outboard motor is only avaliable in 2 stroke during that time the price of gasoline went up so we start using a 4 stroke Briggs and Stratton, Wisconsin, Clinton, tecumseh, Kohler engines never heard a Japanese engine with the same size during that time .

I watch all your videos but don’t often feel the need to comment but that boat is something else . I was enjoying the ride . I may have to make something similar when I eventually retire to bacolod. Just great 😊👍

it would be sweet to build 2 sealed mini canoes for the pontoons instead of the bamboo to cut thru the water better with less spray
