The best part about the dinosaur is that Ghost-Maker, Batman's self-styled rival who tries to one-up Batman in every regard, has a robotic Spinosaurus in his lair just because it's bigger than a T. rex. Because that's how Ghost-Maker rolls.

There was an earlier game like Battle Chess called Archon, but it was fantasy themed. The pieces were Dragons and Manticores and Wizards etc, and when you "captured" you went to a subscreen and had to fight in real time. Early pc days, really crude graphics, but bitd it was fun.

I've been watching Batman the Brave and the Bold recently, and in one of the climactic episodes, the Batcave is invaded by an alien warrior, and while fighting him off, Batman uses the T-Rex robot to attack him. It was the first time I'd seen it used, or even realized it wasn't a statue, pretty fun stuff.

Of all Batman's trophies, it's always been the odd dino out. Some other iconic trophies like the Joker card are obvious. The giant penny? One can probably assume Two-face even if it's a random one-off villain in canon. (BTAS even made it Two-Face) but the dinosaur always just seemed so random. As a kid, I just assumed Batman wanted a giant T-rex because it looked cool. It's what I would do.

Since this issue came out soon after the popular Max Fleischer "Superman" animated film series, (1941-43) I wonder if it helped inspire this story. The Supeman cartoon, "The Artic Giant," had him fighting an unfrozen dinosaur; In "The Mechanical Monsters," a crazed genius forces him to fight a group of large robots. And the mad genius in this one looks a lot like Chase.

Hi Sasha (hope I'm spelling your name right)! Interesting vid. As for your game request, I'm not the best authority when it comes to video games, but the only series of games I can think of that might match your vague description might be "Battle Chess"? There were a few games in that series, but I don't recall any of them having punk as a theme for pieces. It was mostly medieval, although Battle Chess 4000 included science fiction elements? I think my insomnia is finally wearing off, so I don't have the wherewithal to delve in to study to see whether that is right or not, but it was relatively big back in the day, spawning several sequels and even a couple of clones. Although, to be honest I don't really have much confidence in that possibility, given the assumed quality of games as cereal prizes would be... But who knows what weird promos some cereals got up to in different regions, I guess?

I think that against many opinions tothe contrary, he'd try to be the best father figure he could (when did he NOT try to be the best he could in anything?), and have a soft spot towards his wards, students and children in his care.

Forget how he got the dinosaur, how’d he get it back home, I’m picturing the bat trailer pulled by the Batmobile

Over the years, the batcave Trophies have seemly become less and less (from what I have noticed) the 3 Staples the Trex 🦖 the Gain Penny 🪙 (closes I could find to a penny but it's at least a coin lol)and Gain Joker playing card 🃏...
Back in the day, I remembered more about Trophies from Rogue's Batman had fought but made I'm just miss remembering???
All thought, I like the 3 Staples. I just thought at times there were more???

I remember reading the Dino story when I was first reading comics. Your video brought back so many fun comic book reading memories. What stood out was that Mammoth steaks they planned on eating. I think this idea came from something I read about a Mammoth being found intact frozen in ice in reality. Loved your enraged Batman voice.

Honestly, I always wanted to believe that Batman once had a dinosaur-themed villain, and that's where he got the T-Rex.
10-year-old me must never learn of this.

Battle Chess. The game was absolutely Battle Chess. Totally a staple of the early 90s.

It seemed to me the story was going down the King Kong route, only to pivot to The Most Dangerous Game.
Someone was a fan of Fay Wray.
