When I was in Ecuador, they made papaya smoothies. all it was, was Papaya and water blended up, then add some lime while it's blending up. It is a 100% healthy smoothy and if you have a good palate, the taste is wonderful.
1 - Green (not ripe) papaya can be grated, add grated carrots and onions, add salt and season with vegetable oil. It turns out to be a very tasty salad that tastes like cabbage salad... 2 - Medium-ripe papaya can be cut into slices and fried in a frying pan. It tastes like roasted pumpkin... 3 - Ripe papaya - peel and eat like a melon. You can do it as shown in this video, or you can peel and seed it and cut it into slices on a plate. It is advisable to cool slightly in the refrigerator before eating... Bon appetit !
Thanks for the vids! I live in Florida and these are easy to grow and take up very little garden space. The taste of the fruit is sweet and reminds me of cantaloupe - but with a smoother texture.
YourProduceGuy i tried papaya today for the first time and it was ok..but i wasn't really impressed, so i put the cut up pieces in the refrigerator and later in the evening i got hungry for a snack.. i recalled what you said about lime juice enhancing the flavor, so i tried it... and BAM! i am hooked! The combination is awesome! Thanks for turning me on to Papaya!
I let my papaya ripen 2-4 weeks after buying to eat. It gets mushy, can't pick it up with one hand and the pressure most people would check to see if it was ripe would put your finger half way into it. It is soo sweet and melts in your mouth. It gets ugly on the outside but turning it so the harder side is up helps. It will get some mold sometimes but that is OK, just always check for rot. Indirect sun when hot and direct sun in winter if you don't live too far South. I am in S. AZ and direct sun is OK in a couple of the months.
+hanounours It is likely from that first very green papaya he showed you. Here in Taiwan and other parts of Asia it's used almost like a vegetable when it's firm, green on the outside and white on the inside. I prefer my papaya ripe though I tend to have trouble finding really good ones here. They tend to be a bit bland for me but I've never been brave enough to buy one whole at the store because they are massive here and I'm not sure what I'd do with it all lol!
I've recently had some questions regarding Papayas that have a rather unpleasant smell when opening them. Those are probably the Mexican/Meridol variety of Papaya. The two varieties are very different.
So happy you added me to your contacts! I love food, cooking and papaya, and I want to know how to cook green papaya, ever since the movie, scent of green papaya. And I love the info on the fruits and veggies. Fabulous.
Thanks! I'd asked for you to do a spot on papaya and here it is. I'll check the store for a good one today. I know now that sometimes the ones on the display case are well past ripe, with large brown spots.
I have been seeing info recently promoting Papaya seeds as an anti-parasitic. I hope that's true! A very simple cure if it is. I cannot however tell you for sure at this time. As I did a little research just before making the Papaya video I did discover for myself that the seeds are edible, which I had not previously known. Of course I tried some and that were pleasant enough all on their own. A bit "peppery" but not unpleasant in the least. For their best effect of course, eat them raw. They would be very nice in a salad. Cross your fingers that they can take down any parasites that might be lurking in us!
So expensive in the UK for a good red flesh mexican papaya, I wish I could eat it everyday. The best fruit in my opinion. Also makes the best breakfast food.
Great video! I smuggled a few Hawaiian papaya seeds home during a trip a few years ago, and just harvested a few dozen fruit off the tree. I don't really know what to do with all that papaya.
I heard papaya seeds are used as a cleanser to kill parasites. Have you heard of this, and if so, how would you prepare it & what should I expect from consuming it? Kinda figured one shouldn't make plans to leave the house for awhile! Also, I've found Hawaiian papaya grown in Kahuku to be the best in texture and taste.
I tried the papaya it was delicious. My friend from Jamaica told me to dry the seeds and plant them. Now I have a miniature papaya tree growing in a pot.
We are great fans of papaya which we always look forward to when we travel to Hawaii. We buy almost exclusively at farmers markets and enjoy several varieties available there. Rainbow and strawberry papayas are wonderful. However, we've found it difficult to find satisfactory papaya on the mainland. Does refrigeration during shipping have a deleterious effect on papaya's flavor or is it just we who are spoiled? Maybe we'll have to give the Mexican variety a try. Thank you for your insights.
Some of it may have to do with harvesting the fruit in a 'greener' state in order to ship it. If you are buying from a farmer's market, the farmer can pick the fruit that morning (or more likely, the evening before) and it can be super ripe because he is going to sell hall his inventory that day. Shipping you must have firmer fruit to make the trip and so it will not have that tree ripened flavor. If you try Mexican Papaya, don't expect it to be like Hawaiian...you will be disappointed. They are two different fruits. Thanks for watching!
Personally, I don't the think the Hawaiian Papaya needs any taste acquirement. But the Mexican Papaya is another matter. However, if you have ever eaten dried Papaya, you are eating Mexican Papaya. I don't think I have ever seen a dried Hawaiian Papaya for sale in the stores. You can tell the dried is the Mexican by the brilliant orange color and the rather long slices that it is sold in.
I have bought my very first ever papaya today,I live in England..I'm 46years old🤣😂🤣😂..I have fruit drinks with it in,I think I have just had the juice on its own.. I can't wait to try it,but not getting my hopes up,fingers crossed.. Great video, thanks for the info, take care✌🏼☮✌🏼☮
Now I know why a friend of mine suggested using papayas in a smoothie/shake its cause of all of the health benifits esp for weight loss. I not sure if I like them but will try to be open minded esp when it comes to making things more healthy so that I can lose weight.
you can grow papaya from seed of the store bought fruit. i do it all the time. have to live in a warm area, they dont like freezes though put 10 seeds in a hole, and cut (dont pull) the smallest ones when they are about 2 or 3 inches tall. - they have an enzyme that helps break down proteins, and the seeds can fight cancer, or keep you from getting it !
I love your channel!..I'll check it more often to learn your recipes.Ilove baking and learning these things will make it awesome! thanks for the add =)
You're thinking of Mangoes. They have a toxicity in their skins that some people are sensitive to. It causes a reaction much like contact with poison ivy. However, that is not a widespread reaction. Of course, there are food allergies or sensitivities that individuals can have to specific fruits, but what you are thinking of is not the case with Papayas.
I have a papaya tree, when can I cut the fruit from the tree? and what are those fruits you have on your right? Thanks for your videos, they are very instructive
Only store in Minnesota I can find papaya is Walmart....they used to be great...but now the mostly or all yellow ones.. cut the open and the seeds are light to med green....can't get a answer if seeds still ok to eat or not....and if the skin gets moldy...but it's not in the orange part....cutting off the skin....is the inside safe to eat? Can't find answers any where....
Get organic and if it is from Hawaii find out how to tell whether or not it is genetically modified. For conventionally grown fruit (grown WITH chemicals inputs) the PLU code on the sticker consists of four numbers. Organically grown fruit has a five-numeral PLU prefaced by the number 9. Genetically engineered (GM) fruit has a five-numeral PLU prefaced by the number 8.
Would eating the skin of a papaya like you would an apple or kiwi a good idea? It's a bit random, but the skin looks quite thin and similar to a mango, and I've had mango with skin on and was good. Thanks for the video, looks like I'll need to get me some of those!
Hi, thanks for the video. Very informative. I have a papaya a bit green and I don't know if it's good to open or not. Is that normal that the skin has wrinkles? The smell is sweet and delicious.
I have a question - can I cut the half ripe papaya in two pieces and wrap them up in plastic until it's perfectly ripe? And should I then store the two parts in the refrigerator or keep them in room temperature until fully ripe, and THEN put in the refrigerator to keep them fresh? I have a papaya that is not fully ripe, but I would like to watch the color on the inside and pay attention to it so it doesn't go bad before I get to eat it. This is my first time buying one you see! Thank you :)
Thank you🙏🏻I've never eaten one before, but baught one to try though I've no idea what it's like yet, but it looks just like the one you were eating, very helpful video, nice person🙏🏻I'll try mine later. God Bless💖💖
I have no idea how this fruit tastes like as I've never tried one. I've once read that it smells like feet and it isn't as sweet as it looks. Just a while ago I had thought that avocados tasted sweet untill I bought like 3 kilos of them thinking they were sweet, I was shocked when I tasted it and I soon regreted paying so much money on them and most of them sat in the cupboard after til they went off. What a shame. That's why I should ask before I buy.
Great video as always, seem like you have some problems with hissing and popping of the sound s.. don't know if you have anything that could be done about it? Anyways just a minor detail :)
How can I ripen papayas. I have 3 papaya trees in my yard. I try pick the papayas off the tree before the birds get to them. Some reason they stay green, and rott.
please help me. i brought a papaya four days ago...it was fully green carribbean red. i put it in a grocery bag and it now looks speckled with some yellowing. it is starting to mold a little on the smallest end. what do i do?
Would a hawaiian papaya also be listed as a "strawberry papaya" or is that another type? If it is another type, how would I go about choosing one to eat?
I love your videos and I trust you that papayas are healthy, but unfortunately I do not like papayas. There is an unusual taste that is very hard to explain. Not sure how to describe it, but something of an aftertaste or a taste at the back of your tongue. My Dad tells me I don't like papayas because Mom forced me to eat them every day when I was very young.
thanks a million. i took it back today. it was going bad but not ripe at all. can you tell me about tainung papayas? i went to exchange it and the caribbean reds were all gone. is it as sweet as the caribbean red? because i'm going for the sugar content. thanks.
Very interesting. You also clearly know your produce. However, you need to fix your audio. Sounds like you are talking in a tunnel. I suggest a lapel mic.
I literally just tried one and part of it was absolutely medicinal, nasty disgusting and taste. I had to spit that bit out and then the other pieces almost had no taste not sure how I picked so badly or if this fruit just isn’t for me.
Had a Mexican grown one, it was yellowish green on the outside but more like the Hawiian color on the inside. Could not find any Hawiian kind in any store in Minnesota this year. Hard to find and ended up with a green Mexican kind today but it is not ripe, so how long will it take for it to rippen ?
Which type of Papaya are you purchasing? You generally aren't going to have that problem, especially twice with the Hawaiian variety. If you are purchasing the Meridol (we called it Mexican Papaya in my day) variety, they come with their own smell that is easily mistaken for 'rancid' or 'bad.' When working with those, my assistant used to say 'cut them open and then walk away for ten minutes' to let them air-out. That is a natural gas that the fruit produces and is at best...unpleasant. So, if you are purchasing the larger Meridol variety, cut them and come back later.
Every time I buy papaya I end up needing to throw it out. The first time I bought it I waited for it to go from green to mostly yellow like you said and when I cut it open it smelled rancid! I thought maybe I bought an inferior product because I got it from Wal-Mart. I went to a whole foods store and bought one from there and just to be on the safe side I didn't let it get to yellow. When I cut it that one smelled rancid as well. Any tips?!
On the Mexican papaya, when the yellow ring around the end starts turning brown at the stem, does that mean anything? Is it turning bad? It is about 70 yellow with patches of green. I know I should wait till it is more yellow but the browning is concerning. Should I wait to cut it?

A True Gent I'm scared of puttin lime on it. I tried it alone for the first time and it legit tasted and smelled like barf

Thank you sir. I bought a papaya at Trader Joe’s earlier this week and I’ve been so excited to eat it. But, I know now that it’s not ready yet.
The lime is an enhancement to the flavor of the Papaya. Just try it and then you will know what I'm talking about. I'm glad the video was helpful.
***** lightly salting a papaya is also very good.
***** Hi!
I have found frozen papaya at my local asian store. It's white. Have you ever tasted this kind of papaya? Thanks!

Mmmm, I adore papaya. Thank you for all the great videos!
I love lemon with papaya.
I tried the papaya it was delicious. My friend from Jamaica told me to dry the seeds and plant them. Now I have a miniature

I like papayas, they're a little expensive though here in the UK. Have yet to try with lime :)
So simple and basic information but yet so necessary. Thank you.
In the dominican republic we call this lechoza. we make excellent drinks with and without milk and mix it with bananas and fruits
Great information. I ate papaya for the first time in Hawaii this year. It was so good. Did not know about the seeds. Thanks
INDEED! 🎯 Fresh Is Truly Best.

Nice video! I add papaya to my breakfast smoothie every morning.
Excellent video - thank you for posting!

Thank you
Great video
Nice tips. I will try it for sure! Thanks!
Love them, I have used seeds too in dishes, dried papaya is delicious. Good footage :)
I will have to check that source out. As I mentioned, only Mexican Papaya is sold dried around the parts that I've been to. Thanks for the info!

I had the same reaction as a kid to mangos. I could eat them just not touch skin with my hands or faces. Shit hurt for a week.
You are quite awesome, sir. Thanks for the video!
I have a papaya tree, when can I cut the fruit from the tree? and what are those fruits you have on your right?
Thanks for your videos, they are very instructive
Great video thanks for The advice. In Belgium it's around 9$ for a papaya so it's helpful to know when it's ripe
If you are anywhere near the Dutch border you could go to the AH supermarket and buy a large one for around €2,50!
great video, though you didnt explain why the green Mexican papaya is sold green as is.
Now that's a problem we would all like to have!
Great channel great information
Great video thanks for sharing.
Great video. Very helpful!
Can I use lime juice out the bottle if I don’t have a fresh lime?
so that fully green papaya will ripen if left on the counter? thanks :-)

The green papaya is good when cut up and simmered with onion and chopped up beef.

Why do you add lime? I just got a big greenish one I think its the big kind you have.
Thank you :) That helped me a lot!
Thanks!
Very helpful...thanks :)
Is there much different between one that is ripen on the tree and one picked a month and allow to ripen off the tree?
What are the side effects of papaya?
I find the tone of his voice when talking about these papayas oddly sexual.
anyghost How about I share my banana with you?! 🍌
Thanks now that is something I never tried. Do you know how to prevent the birds from eating the papaya off my tree my tree?

I've never tried one
I will be eating mine in a couple days . Thanks for the info 👍
It looks kind of like a cantaloupe
If you like the taste of Mango, you'll like Papaya,!
Why does wrapping them with paper fasten the ripening process? Would that work with a pineapple too?
How do you use the papaya seeds in a dish?
I have no idea how this fruit tastes like as I've never tried one. I've once read that it smells like feet and it isn't as sweet as it looks.
Just a while ago I had thought that avocados tasted sweet untill I bought like 3 kilos of them thinking they were sweet, I was shocked when I tasted it and I soon regreted paying so much money on them and most of them sat in the cupboard after til they went off. What a shame.
That's why I should ask before I buy.
It tastes like sweetness melon. Don't buy it, not worth it, don't go for the colour. Though it has health benefits.
Saad Altuilaai l
Mexican Papaya smell funny but the Hawaiian ones smell great.
@@nohbdy1122 wow fancy meeting you here I know we watch the same martial arts videos but papaya videos too lol
You can order dried Hawaiian solo papayas from wholesale unlimited :D Thanks for posting this video!
Great video as always, seem like you have some problems with hissing and popping of the sound s.. don't know if you have anything that could be done about it? Anyways just a minor detail :)

I just put it in my fruit salad but didn't add the lime. I devoured my bowl before I got to the lime part.
