I had a lesson from Jennifer about a year or so ago, probably more. She is an absolute master of her instrument and a fantastic person. Saw her at Namm 2018 too.
Legend!!
Indeed!! 🤘🏻
hell yes my bro! \m/
You got that right, Rob!
To say the least mate...
Don't you know it. One of the only brilliant female players.
I saw who it was, poured myself a cup of coffee, turned the lights down and spent a wonderful hour of my weekend getting my guitar fix. Thanks so much, great interview as always.
I grew up watching her as one of the pillars of the Michael Jackson prime days. What a goddess of rock legend. Great to finally 'meet' her. Thanks for the video.
Lee, this is where you SHINE!!! You come across so natural, your passion shows through. The retail end isn't where you are most comfortable and this shows why. Thank you so much for getting Jennifer Batten on, same level for me as Steve Vai. Her guitar is absolutely stunning.
Truly, truly underrated and under appreciated.
Whereas Nita Straus is overrated and over appreciated.
Wow, it's Jenny! - I told you! =D
This woman was probably my first guitar-influence through MJ's live shows. I saw this big-haired leather/latex-clad mean-faced woman rock a guitar alongside my hero, and it made quite an impression, without even knowing I'd pick up the guitar as a teenager. - I also met Jennifer last year, she was doing a demonstration and not only was her playing top-notch, she was also very kind having talks with everyone personally, signing some stuff as well, including my old Ibanez Roadstar... Couldn't ask for more in a guitar hero and general human being. 💛
Lee... You literally met one of my all time heroes ! Saw her live (with MJ !) in 97 (I was only 10) ! She's AWESOME !
I've seen her live twice with MJ and twice solo! Such an amazing and inspiring guitar player! Love her tone!
I went from an 11th grade Georgia high school to GIT Summer session in 86 and Jennifer was so great. Classy lady. She let me help carry her stuff once after a clinic and ever since I've just been so proud that I got to meet her. She's a big star to me.
Wow! Jennifer Batten! Well Played!
xxArcanexx heee omg almost the same profile picture 😂👌🏻
This was the absolute best possible thing to wake up to!
Top five favorite guitarists! She is absolutely Amazing
Total legend!
It’s incredible. I see this woman, and I can clearly see she’s young on the inside. She’s a young soul. That’s the energy you get from her. That’s so wonderful. What an interesting person, and great interview.
You are so right - you can see it in her eyes.
Just watched Dirty Diana from the Bad World Tour live at Wembley in 1988, she was so wild and beautiful...I love her ! :-)
What an absolute natural interviewe r Lee is! He puts people at ease enabling him to pull out what we want to hear and know about. He is good enough to be the next Parky!!
Great interview. I've been a fan since her SuperBowl performance. I've learned so much from her magazine articles over the years.
Jennifer is such a hero for me. I saw on her instagram where she was doing a clinic at Anderton's about a month ago and was so hoping we'd get one of these. There was a tapping lesson in an acoustic guitar magazine in the late 90s she did she called the "chordal capo" where she'd make a chord and tap notes above it. I pull it out of the bag of tricks every so often. She's very technically up with the likes of Vai for sure, but entirely different. Headbangers Hairspray and Tribal Rage (Scotsman in the Caribean is a favorite) were seminal records for me. she also insprired me to look at Digitech muli-effects. I use lots of things but I have my rp500 when i don't want to take an amp and tap dance. Boss has sent Gt1000s to so many youtubers for free. They can spare one more for Jennifer I think. Send her one Boss. She'd be biggest advocate you for it you can imagine.
I live in Salem Oregon I used to work at ABC Music Jennifer was so gracious to do a meet and greet with our customers I had a blast got to talk to her about music Michael Jackson and guitars she's a very humble and very kind person have great photos of those memories One of a Kind
legendary guitarist amazing sweeping woman !
What a sweet lady and total guitar legend !
Princess Leia of Guitar.
thats actually pretty correct :-O
Best comment on the Internet.
What a lovely lady.
wow jen is such a legend
Very cool! Nice to see more of her. It's so weird to heard the more intimate stories about such an enigmatic figure in MJ. Stories for decades, bruv
Thank you, Lee!
Hands down one of the best interviews I have seen in the long time. Thank you!
Humble and funny, incredible performer, love you Jennifer!
Absolutely awesome!
Love Jennifer she is a Stellar player, HUMBLE to the core, super talent she is. I met her at a workshop in Hawaii and when she tried to explain things we all had glazed eyes so she just played and dropped our jaws as well. At the end she took some question, and was asked what her dream was and she teased waking up in in the morning to towels with the initials JB & JB. (Jeff Beck & Jennifer Batten) incredible witty sense of humour.
Yes! We want more of these! Jennifer seems to be such a nice woman. Good job, Captain!
Wonderful player, cool person!
Great Interview, fascinating insight into Jennifer's experiences with two legends. Something I've noticed over lots of these interviews are that most great guitarists and genuinely nice people.
What a delightful lady!
The live version of her doing Dirty Diana in a video and killing it was the first time I saw her
I love how the presenter is just overwhelmed… I would be the same… just couldn’t ask a question properly cos damn… what an experience she had and what a legend she is.
Great captain meets , very interesting, I could listen to her for hours
What a lovely woman and a great interview. Could have seen another hour.
The Jeff Beck discussion in this was awesome! I saw Jennifer with Jeff on The Who Else tour- she was incredible! And Captain YOU WERE AT RONNIE SCOTT’S! Blessed indeed!
Love this! I'm a big Michael Jackson fan, and loved the Bad Tour performances.
Bit late to the party on this one, but holy crap. I remember this awesome Lady from the end of Moonwalker playing come together. I was young and was the first time I'd ever heard or seen a female guitarist. Absolute legend.
Oh, I love this video Jennifer. She is such a sweetheart! Loved working with her.
Great player, great personality! She paved the way for a lot of female guitarplayers. Thanks for this marvelous interview!
What an enjoyable interview!
My new guitar hero. Love the way she truly loves the instrument
What an awesome guitarist!! Absolute legend.
To be honest, the only musicians I knew of in that band were Greg Phillinganes (sessions) and Rickie Lawson (The Yellowjackets/sessions). The only reason I knew of Jennifer Batten was because I played guitar. Like her, I was also into R&B and Fusion because, well, that was where it was at for me with regards to guitar. Nice to find out her back story, it was an incredible listen. Thanks for doing the interview!
This lady fascinates me... Ive played for 50 years and can so relate with much of what she says & I really dig listening to some of her stories....& I too have been bit recently by the “steam punk” thing, hahaha.. Ive always loved synth & guitar effects pedals & I have quite a few..great fun....wish I lived next door to this talented woman since Ive got so much in common with her...& it would be fun hangin out with her.. not to mention that she seems so down to earth, Ide really love to take some lessons from her... but Im sure she’s busy as shit.
Thanks for having her on your show!
I'm really liking these "The Captain meets ___". Lee does a very good job at having a relaxing, down-to-earth conversation with huge stars. Keep up the good work!
Watching a variety of content on UA-cam ,'The captain meets...' always gives me me a good time. Thank you very much - great interview :)
Saw her at Sweetwater Gearfest and she put on a great show and very good demo of the Triple Play.
What a great interview!!! I really enjoyed it.
She should play!! Love her work with Jeff Beck. That’s what mamma said, anyway. Weird that it takes social media to facilitate this fab interview, via a retailer. But hey. It’s cool. That’s where we are at. Added value from Andertons. Cool. 👍🏼
As much as I admire and even revere Jeff Beck, I hope he was just as jazzed to play with Jennifer as she was to play with him. To me, she takes a back seat to no-one.
Unless she's in a taxi.
Jennifer Batten is Awesome !!!! I saw her at a local guitar retail shop in Tucson Arizona long before she played with Michael Jackson. She was Awesome then but very shy. She did a clinic and completely ROCKED !!!!!
Brilliant across the board. Thanks guys!
Great interview Lee, one of your very best by far.
Great interview ! Thanks Jennifer and Captain ! :-)
What a guitar hero. love and respect
she seems like a lovely lady and so humble for a mega star
when i was a little boy there was only her, van halen and thomas blug (even though thomas told me that he was only the live guitarist of tic tac toe in my head he is still my first influence) ... they started my love for guitar thanks so much
Thank you very much for this interview, from the U.S.
What a great inspiring musician !
This is rippin cool !! Great Job Lee
What a great interview.
what a lovely talented articulate lady!
Great. Now I'm going to spend the next hour and a half watching the Jeff Beck 1999 Tokyo show for the umpteenth time. If you haven't seen it I thoroughly recommend checking it out - it's youtube and it's amazing.
She had some jeff beck touch in that intro. and I love the way she hugs her guitar from time to time.
As usual, an excellent interview
Fantastic!
That was great - what a smashing lass!
With everything in the world moving so fast, she took us back into time... What a wonderful person and so humble. One would think with artists like these alive and experience we would get more of them but times changed and we get crap music from crap artists.
Great interview! I saw Jeff Beck last week and he was brilliant
Fantastic interview! Thanks for sharing this.
One of the greatest!
I transcribed so much from her albums when I was a student, fantastic inspiration.
Thanks for a great interview!
\m/ >< \m/
Man she can play! I love her rig too. Very sensible for a traveling musician.
What a sound!
JB is so interesting and I"ve watched her courses on truefire, she's the best. Good for her!
Great questions & interview-what an awesome guitar player!
Very cool Lee!
Amazing! ! a great guitarrist
super cool. I had no idea who she was but now I do. Just awesome!
The Ed Sullivan show of The beatles that night inspired or created a lot of great great guitarists: Steve Lukather that i knew and now it's Jennifer Batter. God knows how many more.
She's been my hero for years. I had no idea she was a steampunk nerd! SHE'S THE BEST!
Love these stories
Not a huge MJ fan... and (to my shame) I've never heard of her before, but WHAT a lovely, lovely lady!
So interesting. Well done Lee - what a great interview. I gotta check out some of her stuff now.
Great interview. Loved it. Such a good interviewer Lee.
Great interview. Not the style of playing i tend to prefer but respect it for being bloody amazing! Jennifer seems really down to earth too
Wooonderfull!!!
Not one spot of the interview was boring or reaching for info..in fact, it almost seemed not long enough, and I would have asked much of the same questions. Wasn't a big fan of MJ's, but had a friend who had her 2nd album..and have been a HUGE fan ever since! Also even as a then struggling poor guitarist (aren't we all?) I bought a capo off her site not long after they started selling stuff on it..and still proudly use it to this day. Only disappointment in this vid is I didn't get to go to her show that night!
Awesome interview!
The LEGEND!
Wow. Beautiful fretboard!
perfect!
Oh man I think you should really try to get Tosin Abasi on the channel. I know there was 4 minute little Captain Meets at a convention of some kind a while back, but it'd be awesome to see a full interview.
Legend
Amazing lady 👍🏻
I was hoping to see a lot more of her playing, which is always incredible, but it's still a good interview.
got to meet Jennifer at a clinic very sweet person and mind blowing player.
Great interview Lee.
