    I have a black one. Bought it on 10/01/2017. I LOVE IT. I'm in Southern California and I average about 57 mpg. My brother liked mine so much that he went and bought one too. I also love the warranty and the battery has lifetime warranty rather than Toyota which needs to be replaced after 5-6 years, I think.

      Shel E how much do you spend on gas/electricity compared to a normal car?

      I average 50mpg in mine - UK roads - my last car was less than half that, so you save at least twice as much on fuel as a normal car - and I don't drive this like a grandma - one of the things I liked about it was that it felt good to drive, and you can put it in sport and have some fun, but still get 50mpg - you can even do 120mph on the motorway if you're naughty

      The Toyota Prius batteries as long as you daily drive the cars are actually known for going more than 500,000 Miles because it uses a nickel battery if you let the car sit around and you don't exercise the battery and charge the battery up every now and then it tends to self discharge itself because nickel batteries don't hold charge like that they will hold charge but not like the lithium battery in this car and once it just charges blow certain point the battery chemistry goes bad the people who actually buy the Prius and use it and drive it because it's kind of a car to save money are the ones who find that the cars last forever it's not a 5 to 6 your life span on the battery my 2007 Prius has its original Hybrid battery and I have over 235,000 miles on my car and whenever I do the tests that show how strong the battery is like the 0 to 60 acceleration test my battery still shows up as a fairly strong battery and my car was actually manufactured in July of 2006 so it's battery is actually over 12 years old now and it's in great shape nickel batteries as far as when you use them how many charge-discharge cycles they will do and how many watch / kilowatts they will pass through them in the higher quality grade nickel batteries that manufacturers use in manufacturing cars actually will Outlast a lithium battery but the lithium battery in this car will last so long that the rest of the car will wear out first before the battery in the Hyundai ioniq as well.

    San Francisco has some steep hills. My Ioniq powers up and down those hills (with a full passenger load) no problem. Brakes are worry free. Actually, they sometimes work too good. Have to ease off sometimes to avoid braking too suddenly. And the brakes don’t slip going down a steep hill (unlike my old car).

    My Chevrolet Cobalt gets no better than mid 30s when driving as conservatively as possible on the highway and it's similar in size and power. So the fact that mid 30s is the worst this one gets driving aggressively in sport mode is amazing.

    This car looks way better than the 2016/2017 Prius. As a 2012 Prius owner, I really dislike the looks of the current Prius. However, Toyota is still king when it comes to long term reliability.

    What are the safety features? It looked like no backup camera, the wing mirrors looked like they had a fisheye near the edge but I couldn't tell if there was a blind spot detector. Also the Prius has a radar (or other sensor) to keep a safe distance when using cruise control. Side sensors for prox warnings. Lane departure detectors: 1st a beep, then a steering assist to pull you back. A detector when you're weaving back and forth. Those thing are *very* valuable and are available on all trim levels.
    Just an FYI: Toyota has put about 25 *thousand* hybrid related patents into the public domain to encourage hybrid development.
    I have no idea why they're supporting trump in the CA clean air lawsuit.

    Id be interested in seeing long term ownership numbers on fuel averages and maintenance costs. Im on my second prius, and would graduate to the camry or the rav4 hybrids knowing i would get great resale value and low maintenance or upkeep costs. If the Korean market is able to matchvthat awesome. However, after they lied about fuel economy in the past with other vehicles i do believe its a wait and see thing

    I had to give him a thumbs down I would actually give most car testers is thumbs down when it comes to testing economy cars because the one thing that all of them almost always fail to do is when they get the car they fail to fill it up with gas and drive it a hundred plus miles and fill it up again and say what their actual real world fuel economy was as well as comparing what the car's computer says it's getting fuel economy wise versus what its actual fuel economy is I would have really liked to have seen this guy say that his as-tested mileage was blank miles per gallon but I believe that this guy got the car and had any of the full tank of gas and he just drove around to see what it would be like as a normal consumer driving it like getting a rental car for a short stay somewhere where they needed a car this is why I like Consumer Reports versus pretty much anything else cuz Consumer Reports gets cars and has them for weeks even months sometimes years at a time for testing them short-term and long-term and they actually test with the actual fuel economy of the car is getting they don't just quote you a bunch of freaking numbers and then don't say what they actually got fuel economy wise and I don't trust what the cars computers say I have tested them to be as accurate as 25% off from what the actual real world fuel economy is.

    • @davidm5707
      @davidm5707 6 років тому +1

      Every trip computer I've tested that way is at least two mpg more than the calculated mileage at the pump.
      I think they want drivers to think they're getting better mileage than they are.

      When I fill up my ioniq (2017) I do the "math" I get my receipt I look to see how many miles I've driven since I filled up the car, get my calculator, divide the nbr. of gals i just put in into the range and that the nbr. I used to find my MPG for the thank. I too don't trust the on board computers/readout. My last non hybrid car was a Cruise, 2006, I bought a scangage, plugged it into my. I was getting my MPGs from it and not the on board ones. All I had to do is look at it and one screen told me Speed, real time mpgs, RPM, and avg mpgs. When I filled up I just reset the range info and ready to go at 0 again. It was always different from what the cars 'puter had, and my the way, I seen mid to upper 40s on the Cruise highway driving, Mid to upper 30s around town

    Prius looks way modern and has a history of dependability. The Hyundai looks so boring with style that's 10 years old. On top of that Hyundai have bad reliability records for cars they've been making for years - this is not just a new model it is their first electric. Prius is a much better car.

    My wife has an Ioniq and my Father in law owns a Prius, in 2020 my wifes Ioniq averaged 42 mpg in Las Vegas traffic and weather, The Prius averaged 53 mpg in those same conditions for 2020. Toyota wins, nice try Hyundai. My wife is a lead foot driver so they traded cars for 2 months and She still averaged 48 mpg with her aggressive driving in the Prius, so again Toyota wins.
