Hey guys, back with another Theory video and today, I wanted to go ahead and talk about Dogmeat. While Dogmeat's Owner eventually does become the Sole Survivor, I think it would be interesting to discuss the possibility of whether Dogmeat had a previous owner or not. As always, we'll discuss some of the lore or what we know about Dogmeat, and then speculate a little bit about who Dogmeat's Owner may have been?

It was confirmed from Bethesda that every dogmeat u meet in fallout is a descendant from the dogmeat from the original fallout game

The lone wanderer, while traveling towards the commonwealth with Dogmeat, was gunned down...at this point, Dogmeat continued alone and eventually met Valentine...they hung together a while, but Dogmeat grew restless and began wandering alone, again...it was then that he came across the minute men at quincy...surrounded and badly out gunned, momma murphy sends dogmeat to find help in sancuary, which she had seen in a drug induced vision...the minute men manage to escape and for some damn reason, pass diamond city and reach concord...at which point, dogmeat, who stayed at the redrocket, finally met the sole surviver!

Nope nope and nope. For starters the dog has no name but you get given three choices to name it, if you don't choose a name it gets labelled as Mutt. It is a female dog. there is no dialogue at all that suggests it's his dog. it can't be a companion and it stays in that area and dissapears when the cell is reset. So no. that is not the same dog.

What if Dogmeat is the same kind of being as the Mysterious Stranger. Maybe both of them are aliens that fought the Zetans and were defeated, and they fought during the time between the great war and fallout 1, above earth. Then when they were defeated the survivors of the final battle came to earth with super technology. That might be why the Mysterious Stranger can seemingly teleport and Dogmeat can take many forms, and they seen what happened on earth and decided to help the few survivors of the great war. To explain why they look like humans and dogs is that they look like this to keep humans sorta calm when they battle together. They most likely use tech to see which humans have the mental and physical balance to change the world for better and for the worst. But this is just a theory a fallout 4 theory.

This is my favorite alien theory since the 'G-man's employers were invaded by the Combine and want revenge' one. I always loved Dogmeat but I never considered that he might be a badass shape-shifting alien.

Dogmeat was with the brotherhood of steel. Think about it he has great combat skills, he is good at tracking people, he helps out people, and he finds you special items. Also when you go to the Prydwen while Elder Madison is saying his speech dogmeat does his trick when Elder Maxson says,”Ad Victorian”.

Other mysteries to tackle are...
1. What sort of animals were the Mutant Hounds, before they were dipped? What if they're really cats?
2. What does the "Bye" shrine at Warwick Homestead mean? And who is it for?
3. Who is "The Scribe," and why don't the other Brotherhood members know about him? What chapter is he with? How'd he get to the Commonwealth before even their recon teams did? Why don't we ever see him near, or on, the Prydwen?
4. Could the wounded, mutated mongrel one comes across in a random encounter, actually be the protagonist's dog from before the war? After all, the protagonist & their spouse _did_ own one. As evidenced from when you check the dog bowl at the beginning of the game, and your character says "[sigh]..Never gonna find that dog." And soon after that, the bombs fall.

Mutant hounds kinda resemble a Pitbull-Rottweiler breed, maybe American bully, I have 3 and they are very wide and bulky, but low, similar to mutant hounds
7 Up I only mentioned it because you don't find any dead dogs in the FEV Lab in the Institute. The only things you find are dead (or dormant) Super Mutants, and dead cats. And as far as the Commonwealth goes, the Institute is responsible for all the Super Mutants we come across. That would include the Mutant Hounds...but there were no dead dogs in the lab where they were made. Surely there had to be some dogs that didn't survive the exposure to the virus. You'd figure a few of their corpses would be there, too. If only for study...but no.
My head canon is that Dogmeat is the same dog from every Fallout game, radiation turned him immortal

As mentioned by Nick Valentine, it was him. Nick found dogmeat after his previous owner died and helped him to catch his owner's murderer.
Why the hell would he choose me? I mean I never even feed him. I don't use stimpaks on him since he recovers when I kill the enemy that downed him. I did give him dog armour, but since it adds 0 damage and energy resistance on all weights I practically make him wear dead weight. I never give him the time for nr 2 when going out with him. And sometimes when he annoys me I shoot or stab him... Why would he choose me?

I saw a theory stating that dog meat is a descendant of the sole survivors lost dog, which we get a bit of dialogue for when we interact with the dog bowl pre war, and the reading he takes to you as he does is because he can tell by your character that you need a companion, I mean dogs can smell cancer he could probably tell that you were screed up after swing your spouse die and your son get kidnaped
There is a scene of dogmeat sniffing at shauns cot, so makes sense
I think as a puppy, he belonged to a family, that you can see sometimes when the game is loading, you will see people in a line going into Vault 111, and there's a little girl holding a German Shepherd puppy, and when the men are putting them in the Cryo-Pods, DogMeat gets frozen, and 200 and some years later, thaws out, grows after a while and eventually meets you. Maybe my story doesn't make sense but that's just one of my guesses, but yours is as good as any of mine.

If you are interested what is half synth then i tell ya. Half synth is normal being who was severly damaged and had his oryginal body parts replaced by cloned stynth ones.

Dogmeat in Fallout 4 is almost certainly a tribute to a TV show and movie named "The Littlest Hobo". In this series a ownerless German Shepard wandered from place to place helping those in need and staying with them long enough till the trouble had past, then he would move on to help others in need. The story of the show and dogmeat are a perfect match so I have hard time believing its a coincidence.

I think that if dogmeat did travel with the lone wanderer the reason that he chooses the sole survivor is that you have the same look of determination and a drive that will let nothing stand in the way of your mission, that the lone wanderer had. ie their mission for the sole survivor to save Shaun and for the lone wanderer to save their father. Just an idea but I think it's cool 😎

I like to think that dogmeat is a 4th wall breaking dog because he recognizes you as you and he is drawn to you and that's why he is in every game in some way or another (rex) I also like to think that dogmeat is in a way immortal because of the Puppies perk in fallout 3 so he is on a constant cycle of death and rebirth and he is only drawn to one person and that is you the player. I really doubt Bethesda put that much effort into Dogmeats back story. Let's spend a whole day obsessing over every detail of every character in this game. Yep, that's why games take 4-5 years to create.

Bethesda put Dogmeat in the game to appeal to the fans. It's as simple as that. Bethesda really aren't good writers compared to the people who originally made Fallout.

I think dogmeat is the mysterious strangers dog. Think about it, dogmeat comes to help the player, just like the mysterious stranger. The mysterious stranger could’ve been their when the lone wandered started the purifier. He could’ve taken dogmeat, mated with a dog from the commonwealth, and then the mysterious stranger sends out dogmeats son. 😶

okay one things first when we find Dogmeat at the scrapyard he looks like a full-grown German Shepherds but once he's full grown and I know that Fallout 4 is within five through 10 and Year's from Fallout 3 so yeah maybe Dogmeat could have died in that time and then that means well you know what when Dogmeat dies in the game pups when you get that perk called pups when Dogmeat dies you you get another Dogmeat

I have a theory that Dogmeat is YOUR dog. In the beginning The Sole Survivor says something about how they lost their dog.
And, maybe Dogmeat was brought into the Institute, where he is given instructions to find the Sole Survivor, and gets a chip inplant bring to them to the Institute, but then he finds Mama Murphy and she has a sight about the Sole Survivor. She then tells Dogmeat to go to Red Rocket. Where, he then finds the Sole Survivor.
Also, The Sole Survivor wouldn't remember Dogmeat, since they were cryolated for over 210 years.

Alpha presuming they got hit as well, I doubt they faired very well lol
Massive naval base (Assuming Pearl Harbor is still active in Fallout) and lots of radar installations, so Hawaii would likely be a massive glowing sea. On the other hand, however, the U.S. military knows it's one of their closest major territories to countries that don't like them too much and probably has a lot of ICBM countermeasures.
Honolulu/Pearl City were on the Soviet strike list during the Cold War. Deep water port, refueling station, naval hospital, international airport, headquarters of the Pacific Fleet, etc. China would nuke it back to the Stone Age.

I would be absolutely fine with Dogmeat being some kind of immortal helping spirit drawn to those who will do great things, changing its appearance as it goes.

I'm digging the new logo/intro, VPG! I appreciate that it's quick and not some drawn-out musical number. :-) It's a shame that, besides the radstags, that there aren't more neutral critters out in the wilderness; It would have been cool if you could come across friendly wild dogs - perhaps you could offer them some food and they'd drop some ammo or other items that they came across...
Couple things. Dogmeat could be a synth. We know the Institute created synth crows to act as spies. It would make sense to create other synthetic animals as well for beasts of burden above ground, maybe food, or work animals.
And I like to think the Mysterious Stranger is his owner. Randomly shows up and helps select people and is his own man.

if you don't get dog meat and do reunions nick will whistle and will tell you dogmeat is a "free" dog that has no owner so he's never had an owner i only knew this because my first perk was the lone wanderer perk so i didn't get him.
In case you didn't learn by now, Dogmeat actually doesn't disable the LW buffs. I think it's leftover code because he was supposed to work with other companions or some crap.
When you pay attention to small dialogue, when you're at the Museum of Freedom, sometimes Mama Murphy would say something along the lines of "Dogmeat found us a real keeper", therefore implying that Dogmeat was from Quincy.

Dogmeat is a synth. That explains his intelligence, the fact that Nick can "call" him, him being available just when you emerge from the vault, AND the fact that you know his name. YOU are a synth and it was all set up before you were activated.

I think Dogmeat is from Denver b/c Otho in The Fort from FNV says that the best dogs and the ones that the Legion uses all were taken from Denver. I also have another theory which is that Rex from FNV came from little Lamplight in F3 b/c in LL you find a dog named Rex which has the same fur color as the one we find in FNV, but TBH I don't think that this is entirely the case b/c I don't think there is enough time between F3 and FNV for Rex to be made into a cyborg, be trained in The Legion, and to find his way to Freeside to be owned by The King.

Dogmeat's original owner is the man who became the Mysterious Stranger. Whatever affected him affected Dogmeat as well. He lives forever, changes appearance over time and helps those who need it. He hangs with you because he knows you'll be in constant trouble for the next little while.

My theory is...
DogMeat was a Lucky dog. He wasn't ghoulified when the bombs hit. In the Pre-War Opening, when you activate a dog bowl, the Sole Survivor states...
"*sigh...* Never gonna find that dog."
So, DogMeat was the Sole Survivors dog Pre-War. When the bombs hit, DogMeat got into that Shelter in the back of the house, and got out somehow. He wanders the Commonweath and finds Nick Valentine, a recognized police officer. Nick trains him, and DogMeat finds his way to the Red Rocket Station. The Sole Survivor finds him, and they are reunited with his owner. That's just my theory.

Something I've always wondered is, what if dogmeat is a synth? Like, what if father made dogmeat years before he let you out to spy on people like the crows, and then when he let you out, he made dogmeat want to be your best bud instantly to kind of guide you throughout the wastes.

I think that Dogmeat was possibly the pet of the dead raider next to the red rocket who is lying next to an impaled mongrel. No clue why I thought of this but I think Dogmeat just went to the closest shelter ( The Red Rocket ) and stayed there waiting for someone until the Sole Survivor stumbled upon him.
What if dogmeat from fallout 4 is an ansester of the sole survivors dog from the prewar part of the game. There is a dog bowl in the sole survivors house and before the bombs dropped they say " wonder if we'll ever find that dog?" Or something close and maybe the original dog was having an affair with another german shepered in sanctuary and because of the connection maybe somehow dogmeat recognized the sole survivor.

I met Dogmeat on the way to Concord after the initial Out of Time quest stage with Cogsworth. He ran right up to me, and was my first ever companion. 4 play throughs later (I was traveling when FO4 was released - on the road for almost 5 years on my bike) I'm still using Dogmeat. I've learned his scripting and can work with him well, only occasionally being blocked. Now he is modded Insanity so he can be used in Survival mode. Dogmeat, Heather, and Ellen are my constant companions.
