I just tried this in 5 minutes. I was amazed how good it turned out. Love your channel you give us great challenges and good advice. Only been painting just over a month and you have made it fun and I'm not afraid to try new things. Spattering is my biggest challenge it seems to end up on my face and clothes rather than on the painting 😂 By the way I like all three of yours they all had different qualities
The 5 and 15 minute ones were, perhaps, a little bit more successful but I admire your poise and resolve in DOING it, at all! I tried, and got all tangled up in paint, water, materials, and my crazy-making mind! That clock is wicked.
Exciting. I've watched first 2. I need to come back to watch last one. Lunchtime. I got quite anxious for you on first one. Cannot wait to try this myself!
My favourite is the 1st one. I liked the perspective best on the 3rd. All are lovely. Trying it next week when I go to Scotland. Staying on the coast, so will use a photo I will have taken.
I love watching you paint. You seem just enjoy what you are doing so much without being exact. You are so open with your strokes and splatters. it doesn't have to be a copy of the picture but your own perspective. Just love it. Thank you Karen!
My favorite art teacher! Getting back on your Patreon now that I’ve got time. I have terrible arthritis so your techniques are perfect for me!!! Thanks Karen!🎉
Very lovely that you posted this video! I paint in oil and acrylics and draw, but watercolours have been a major challenge! I have watched many watercolour videos and I'm going to try this. Thank you from Canada !
Nice challenge : it’s something that I practise from time to time, to exercize my brain to capture the essential and keep it fresh on the paper. And the one that I prefer, is the first one 😉
How fun! I’ll admit the one minute piece gave me a bit of anxiety. Haha! I like all three for different reasons. Definitely going to give this challenge a try. Thanks for sharing. 😍
I love all of them! Watching the one minute version kinda gave me anxiety. Lol. I never thought about doing this exercise, but I can see how it would really help to develop our skills.
I am enjoyed by this challenge. That's why i prepare the 100 day art projet minimalist landscape limited timing, after this video 15 minuts seems very long😂. Thanks Karen for this video.
I certainly enjoyed watching your challenge, I was holding my breath during your one minute painting. Thank you for all your techniques and tips Karen. This certainly kept me on the edge of my seat, watching you and the timer... Well done.🎉
Great exercise and paintings❣ I liked all 3, the limited colors, the composition, the execution...It's very inspiring to watch and realize all the benefits that can be derived from doing this exercise❣ Thank you🙏🏼.
I love this Karen, it looks a lot of fun! I really like them all. I find drawing easier than painting and feel when I paint my drawings I seem to ruin it somehow.
That was so much fun, I much prefer the more relaxed version. But I think they all came out awesome. So much difference, from 1-15mins. The slower more relaxed 15min challenge, is much calmer, more chill. The first 2 stressed me a bit, I may try the 15 min part. Lol. Thank you Karen x❤
Loved this Karen, shows how a painting looks more abstract the less time you spend on it. I am truly inspired by your work. I can’t see a reference to the pen you used in the comments section?
5 minute one is my fav 😊 great way of trying not to focus on too much detail. I will be trying this as I really need to relax and loosen up my strokes. I am new to watercolour and art in general. Always been drawn to watercolour paintings, but I struggle to keep it fresh and floaty and soft. Any tips! X
@KarenRiceArt thank you for your kind words of encouragement . My lack of confidence always holds me back. Thank you so much it means so much you messaged me. Best wishes 😊 X
Wow! All three masterpieces, honestly! Impossible to choose. I don’t think I can do the third one in an hour.. Would love to reach the level of the second one. But is it weird that I love the first one? There you go, it’s my fave for some reason, love it when you can see nature in abstract paintings 👏👏👏
# 2 , I like the lighter sky , FuN … I enjoyed seeing your process and thinking in five minutes and to me, it seems very practical to keep from throwing every skill you know at the painting
This is a great exercise for beginners! Even I try these timed challenges every once in a while to regain perspective when I start to get too fiddly with my paintings and I've been doing watercolor for like, 20 years. I find that sometimes the less time you have to think, the better the painting comes out. Just don't put too much pressure on yourself, know that it might come out imperfect (and you might not like it) but you'll learn in the process. One step at a time padawan.
thank you this was fun to do with you! more of these please! I love your paintings
Amazing - watch this space!
Thank you so much 😊
Loved watching this, so fun, so beautiful!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for your lovely comments 😊🎨

I wonder what would happen doing it in reverse?
Interesting…I might try that!
I think also it would be interesting 👍

I so agree!!

It’s a great challenge. Good luck! 😊🎨
Love the rocks done with a cut up credit card, I use credit cards but never thought of cutting them up. For me the drawing takes the longest. X
Thank you so much 😊

I love all three. For me the last two as I tend more towards detail. I will give this a go.
Thank you so much 😊
Happy painting!
Karen these are amazing.

Thank you!
It’s an uni pin fineliner pen.

Good luck! Just try and go with the flow. If it doesn’t work first time don’t give up - the old adage of practice makes perfect is true. 😊

FuN …
I enjoyed seeing your process and thinking in five minutes and to me, it seems very practical to keep from throwing every skill you know at the painting
Thank you very much! 😊
They are all beautiful. I would be afraid to try this as I think I would be disappointed because I am a beginner with watercolours.
