This is such a lovely painting, Karen! I love that you included so much technical content in it in such a short time frame. It is easy to follow and the end result is wonderful. I think the addition of the people really added to the painting and I get a calm and cozy feeling looking at it 😊. I am a beginning watercolorist so this will be a wonderful painting for me to practice those techniques. I will definitely give it a go by the weekend and see how I do 😀 thanks so much! 💕
Me too !😊
Thank you so much! I am really pleased you found the technical content helpful and liked the addition of the people. Have fun painting this this weekend!

Wow, that was just beautiful and you are an amazing teacher. I just started painting a few short months ago. I've watched tons of videos from different teachers, but yours really explained the techniques in real time. I now know I'm using way too much water. You are greatly appreciated.... And we'll, the accent is just so calming. It's like having a spot of tea with a friend and creating something simple and beautiful.
You are so welcome 😊

What a lovely painting, thank you!
Thank you 😊
This is such a great winter wonderland scene!
Extra excelent lesson. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Oh Karen, when I saw the thumbnail for this I was already excited but couldn't believe when I watched the entire video, how simple it seems to be. No drawing! Two colours! And adding the figures at the end was a fab idea. I'm supposed to be working but how can I when I have to try out this beauty? Thanks so much - yet again. I really love this - but it is not as simple as it seems to control the dampness of the paper for so long so I will have to work at that - I'm way too out of practice but am coming back thanks to you. 💕💕☘☘
Thank you Dearbhla… it kind of evolved… so pleased you liked the figures. Keeping the paper damp takes practice. Saunders Waterford stays damp for quite a while. That’s my go girl o paper, especially if I am demonstrating to students 😀
@@KarenRiceArt Thank you Karen. I have a block of Saunders Waterford so no excuses 🙂
@@dearbh1736 Maybe go a little smaller until you get back into painting again :)
Wow! It looks easy but it is not! I need to try again, till I improve my skills. Thank you so much!
You're welcome 😊
This painting tutorial is very helpful to me thank you 😊 💗 Your beautiful winter dusky illustration is OUTSTANDING !!! 🍂🍁🍂🦊✨️🪄✨️
Thank you so much 😀
Happy New yearand thank you
That video is so interesting and instructive, thank you so much Karen !!

Such great tips, Karen! I learned a lot! I SO appreciate the simple explanation of how to paint people!
Thank you Rita 😊
Those rocks with plastic card looks like magic 😲
Thank you 😊
Wow, this turned out a lot different than i expected. Most excellent! Thanks for explaining everything you did. When i feel brave enough, I'm going to give it a try. You are a great artist and teacher. Thank you!
Thank you for your kind comments 😊
Lovely painting and very interesting tutorial! I've never tried to scrape watercolour, the result is so nice! I must try it as soon as possible :)
Thank you! I hope you enjoy using this technique 😊

Thank you Hayley, so glad I his has been helpful 😀
It is so pretty. And i am in aww really how it looks so simple. I have tried one time watercolour and it was not simple at all.
Thank you so much!
Practice makes perfect 🎨
Absolutely gorgeous but to be fair, this is a million miles away from a beginners tutorial. Still, loved the tips on painting people too xx

I just found you and love this. I’m new to watercolor and afraid of it, most watercolor paper warps, yours didn’t?
I did see some watercolor blocks on line is that what you are using? Can’t wait to see more of your videos.
Thank you for the video.
I do use blocks. This is just on paper 300gsm Saunders Waterford.
Just subscribed. First time I found your channel and your instructions are so helpful!

Hi Karen, could I ask what the best budget watercolor brushes are for a beginner please? I loved this tutorial by the way. I soo wish I could paint like this. 😃
Thank you Michelle. It depends where you live. Jacksons art supplies watercolour brushes are great. Also Daler Rowney Aquafina brushes.
@@KarenRiceArt Ah many thanks, I will have a look at those. We are in UK. 😊
Gorgeous picture. The archway people are genius! Any tips for the salt? It never really works for me.
Thank you! So pleased you liked the archway... check out my salt tutorial, I really go into depth about using it in watercolour: ua-cam.com/video/1Hs9mBrwj5w/v-deo.html
Do you use aqua board for work
I have in the past, but not for this tutorial.
Hi Karen I love your work. I raise funds for charities selling my art work. Is it ok for me to sell any paintings that I have done while following your tutorials? Thanks
Hi Robyn, thanks for your message. If you are going to sell work based on my tutorials, I ask for you to credit my UA-cam channel, either on the back of the painting or card. Hope this was helpful.
What a lovely painting. It always amazes me that suddenly the painting becomes clear. Just those few details make all the difference.
Thank you so much for including the info about paper towel dabbing! It took me 9 months on my watercolor journey before I realized the necessity of this technique. (And even then, my frugal self resisted "wasting" all that paint!) You have helped me and many others with your careful discussion of this and other techniques in this video!
I am so pleased this was helpful Penny. Thank you for sharing your experience with us all here 😊
What a gorgeous painting, every tree, rock, splatter are the stars of this painting. With each one of your tutorials, I learn so much, and you have so much to teach us!!. Thank you Karen for being such a wonderful teacher and for your desire to share your knowledge with us. ❤
This was totally AMAZING to watch - seeing every paint stroke come to life. You taught me so much in 16 minutes. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Thank you Kelle 😀
Interesting how Karen's teaching style is no nonsense. Some tutors really go around the houses to tell you things😂
Karen, this is simply beautiful! You never cease to amaze me with the ease that create such lovely paintings. As stated many times in these comments, I find you to be an excellent teacher and I have learned SOOOOO much from you. Thanks so much for sharing and educating us! Cheers!
Thank you so much Trina for your lovely comment!
What a great tutorial. A big bonus is your speaking voice! So many of these tutorials have dreadful monotonous or squeaky or whiney voices that I can't bear to listen! And your explanations are so clear. Thank you. I am grateful to have discovered you!
Thanks so much! 😊
Hi Karen! This is probably the best tutorial I have ever watched. Thank you! I loved how this painting was made through immigration and not necessarily drawing. I really liked that you showed us how to mix those two colours and watched them transform, and now I finally learned how to draw in people! Wow! Again, thank you for this tutorial! Greetings from Canada! 😊
Greetings Liliana in Canada… so pleased you liked this tutorial, thank you!!! 😊
Thank you! The limited colour palette work you publish is much easier for me to follow, as a colour-vision impaired hobby artist. Excellent stuff.
So pleased the limited palette was helpful! Thank you ☺
My eyes popped out when you made those rocks with the card. That's a trick I haven't seen. Thanks!
Incredible Karen - everything you need to know in one very beautiful painting! Huge thanks 🙏- fantastic tutorial 👏
Thank you so much Chris 😊
Thank you, Karen. I'm so glad you didn't show us the painting before you began using your imagination. I truly love to watch it only from a blank canvas / paper, seeing it all come together in it's process. I guess it's more clear to me that way. I hate seeing the end before I receive the gifts of your wonderful imagination and technique. It came out so beautiful. xxx
Wow! Thank you!! 😀
As a beginner I look at what you created and am amazed. My go at it was a mess, but I will keep trying. Your work is very inspirational. New subscriber here!
Thank you so much and welcome to you 😊
What a terrific lesson. Watching someone who knows what they re doing is so useful - it’s also made me rethink my (so far) tepid response to watercolour - you’ve demonstrated how to “control” this fluid medium. The water on paper and brush seems a mystery to me, but your explanations are so helpful. I’m going to try watercolour again with renewed interest. And I LOVE the end result of your painting here. Great tips and clear instructions. Subscribed!
So pleased it was helpful! Thank you for sharing 😀
You are an AMAZING teacher, Karen. Your videos are packed full of techniques and I love the way you taught us to paint people. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much 😊
Karen your channel is an absolutely invaluable asset in my learning of this medium, I am so happy you and your videos exist. I ended up taking notes on it in fact haha. I'm absolutely going to be putting all your wisdom into practice with a test piece soon, thank you verily!
Thank you so much! So pleased you are finding the tutorials helpful!!
The best tutorial for showing all of the many techniques regularly used by watercolorists. Showing them in action is very helpful for beginners and advanced students alike. Thank you for the concise help and refresher course. Love the picture too!
I am so pleased you found this helpful!
I‘m following you for years! You are such a great teacher. Every single word makes sense. After three I‘m now at a point where I’m getting more successful with my own attempts. Thank you so much, Karen.
I’m so glad! Thank you so much for sharing 😊
This is fantastic, Karen! Your information is so clear and concise. It's a joy following you and trying the techniques you show us. 💜 Thanks for this tutorial!
Thank you so much for your lovely message. I appreciate you letting me know that I am clear, that's really helpful to me 😊
Superb! I love all your techniques and your artistic style. You've taught me so much! Thank you ❤
Thank you Meg 😀
You're a wonderful watercolour artist I've just discovered your channel by chance, thanks to a Ponterest Pink that brought me herederos. I've learnt a los from you , the use of the card to make rocks!!
Thank you so much 😀
😍😍😍this tutorial is a masterclass . Lllllllllloooooovvveeee it. It has so many precious pieces of advice. I haven’t seen any artist explaining so well so whole heartedly as you do. Much grateful. Stay blessed dear Karen
Thank you so much! I’m so pleased you enjoyed this tutorial and found it helpful. 😊
Great lesson Karen, thank you 😁 I love the finished painting, so pretty, it would look lovely as a christmas card. I am useless with figures, so will definitely give the 'arched window' a try. 😊
So pleased you like the lesson Pauline... I agree it would make a fab Christmas card... I didn't intend to put any figures in, it just ended up that way, so no pressure. The arch window is a great technique... have fun!
Beautiful! Im wondering about one thing though. I myself struggle with white parts like snow, by covering those parts with glue or stuff like that, or simply avoiding to paint those parts. But you use some white color? Goache I think you said. What is that?
Hi Karin, Gouache is an opaque waterbased medium. Great for sparttering white snow or getting your white back if you have lost it. I also used masking fluid and as you say paint round light objects to reserve the light.
