    You went over the 2 remaining vehicle tunnels that go under the ICW that still remain in Louisiana. One is under the Harvey Canal just past the lock you were in, and the other is in Houma near where you all docked for the night. There used to be a third tunnel under the ICW in Belle Chasse but it was permanently closed last year (December, 2023) as a new toll bridge is under construction in Belle Chasse that goes over the ICW. I also was on tugs in the 1970s, usually in the Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi River, and ICW between Mississippi and Lake Charles, Louisiana. Good times, beautiful sights.

    • @melodymakermark
      @melodymakermark 3 місяці тому

      @Nitrox4me, the owner had the $300K or whatever to buy the boat, but most likely lacks the confidence to deal with the haul. That’s where our Captain here comes in. Sweet gig.

      @@melodymakermark I understand that, but I thought accompanying you guys to learn. When I sold my Grady White (divorce) the new owner came down to my house on Palm Island, near Englewood. I had him and his wife accompany me to his home port of Palm Harbor north of Clearwater. His previous boat was a pontoon, so I figured he could use some instructions/lessons. Granted it wasn't the run you did, but...
      I miss my Grady!

    I enjoy your channel. Locking through on the ICW and Okeechobee Waterway is much different than what I was used to for 50+ years in the Puget Sound. When I ran a boat down from Tarpon Springs and around to Jacksonville I was surprised to find that oftimes we were the only ones in the locks, and the handling lines were already hanging on the lock walls! Even more eye opening was the friendliness of the lock attendants; AND, a private vessel was allowed to contact the lock master prior to entry. How nice that is! The locks in Seattle are run much different and depending upon which chamber, you are often locking through with 35 other boats, a third of which have owner on their first time through. The lock masters won't talk to you on the VHF and the commercial vessels first rule is so strict that one might wait for several hours before a chamber is opened to allow Joe boater to proceed.

      I’ve ran the intercoastal from port Isabelle to key west bite and all across the gulf. I truly liked docking in Morgan City and Houma. But where the video starts at Gulfport Municipal is probably the cheapest and nicest for the money other than a fixed pier. Only down side is if a storm comes you have to move your Boat or be charge thousands daily plus damages

    • @pjboudwin2730

      @trevorlahey1956 other then at the campground I've never docked in Morgan City but when I was young every year my dad and grandpa would take there shrimp boats from Houma to Gulfport/Biloxi and he used to say he hated shrimping there but he loved being docked down there 🤣

    Wonder if a chest mount camera is feasable vs the head mount? Love the content, some of it is hard to watch with the rapid head movement. Bit dizzying at times. It could be restrictive of movement i get it,Just a thought.

    Trying to learn more and more about boats. You said the boat is an " American tug" I am assuming that's the brand of boat... I can tell it's a trawler type vessel but what year? Would be nice to know so I can look up the specs and get some tours of the boat itself. I liked that it had a 1200 mile range, that is respectable.

    I’ve worked and stayed in Houma, LA many times. I used to stay at what was called the Holiday Inn Holidome, or some such. This was back in the ‘90’s. I liked that town, though. River Cajuns are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. They don’t take any crap, though. I love Louisiana.

    19:43 i don’t believe using a pilot takes away any liability from the vessels captain. From what I understand the pilot is only there to give the captain and crew instructions on navigating the local water. He never physically takes over the controls. ultimately the captain still carries all liability.

    This would have been great if the camera had been giving us the surroundings instead of focused on the captain during potentially interesting points, like entering the locks. Too much of just watching the captain talk on the radio or verbalize where they are and what they are seeing. Camera off the captain and on the surroundings would make this a subscribe. On the more positive side, at least when the camera was on the captain it was steady.
