I would try the caparol haftprimer as the undercoat after the blockade, it's amazing stuff

Wimborne white is a cracking colour. I use it on all my ceilings.

Lovely colour mate. I'm doing a job soon with ceiling walls and woodwork all in Wimborne White. Gonna get it mixed in Nova 2.

@@danielnugentpainteranddeco557 I am not a fan of brilliant white ceilings in my house. I use the Wimborne white it’s softer less stark I find it’s more restful than full on BW. I did a full house in bone white, ceilings, walls, wood. I was surprised how good it looked.

Looks great finish Daniel, keep meaning give a whirl.
l been using customer supplied Armstead qd eggshell 3 mostly (4 in places... ) coats over 1 johnstones aqua white on new preprimed mdf. Terrible coverage.

I'd say the Tikkurila is easy 2 topcoats. The beauty is you can get the Helmi or otex akva primers mixed to the same colour. That helps aswell

Considering using Zinsser (water based) exterior AllCoat in lieu of Blockade and Primer - as spec says this can go direct onto stained timber plus is primer/self-undercoating. Covers well and dries in 1 hour for additional application. Propose then to apply 2 x topcoats of same mixed in this Wimborne White (BS number?) - lovely colour.
Spec says highly durable plus has Class 1 scrub rating. Thoughts?

Sounds good but I still like a solvent primer on stained wood. Not tried a waterbased product over stained wood. Be good to give it a go and see if it does block any bleeding or tanning. I use a product called Otex by Tikkurila which dries so quick and is spot on. Solvent based

@@danielnugent2168 I recently used Zinsser AllCoat to prime/undercoat direct onto degreased pine and top coated with another water based paint (WRX). It's absolutely solid. So much great information that you've posted. Have to ask, is AR2 no longer available? Liking the look of the Macpherson Durable Acrylic (as Tik alternative) for walls you recently reviewed - if touching in is okay?

Hi Dan, I was thinking of doing this on my new fresh pinewood staircase and spindles: Zinsser BIN x 2 coats then 2 coats of Everal Akva semi-matt 40 - will this be ok? Don't want to spend extra on Otex Akva primer if not required... Also would you recommend Everal Akva 40 over Helmi 30? Many thanks

Daniel, what is the best eggshell /satin by tikkarulia for brush application that you have found
I have just used helmi 30 and to be honest, it doesn't flow any differently than any other water based woodwork paint.
It still dries to quickly to level off
Would thinning it down a bit help
    Any advice would be great

      Hi mate.
I use a cap full of Floetrol By Owatrol in with my paint as it gives it a longer working time and eliminates brush marks etc. It's like a conditioner. You can also get an empty spray bottle and fill with water and spray a fine mist onto the surface as I find that helps especially in warm temperatures. Also a good quality synthetic brush helps and on big areas use a microfiber roller sleeve and lay it off with the roller. Cheers Dan

    • @stevenmcfarlane8831
      @stevenmcfarlane8831 Рік тому

Helmi is terrific but brush / roller application is not what suits it best. Sprayed is best for Helmi. Everal was introduced to UK to satisfy most of us as it’s better for traditional application .
