I am totally on board with everything this can do. The lower is compatible with AR triggers, grips, and safeties and the uppers have pic rails, mlok slots, and adjustable gas blocks. This is essentially the modernized AK that I’ve been wanting.
I love 5.56 aks and modernized aks. So this is right up my alley. I've always loved the looks of the jakl so the jakl with ak mags looks so fine to me. This looks very similar but better than the conceptual psa vuk which i really had my eyes on. Edit: for 1380 dollars you're still paying less than a kusa ak101 😂
I love a little bit of innovation. Something a little different. Would love to see it on both a brn180 and a CMMG Dissent. And then go compete against a bunch of ar15's. The mag changes would make it more fun. Besides mp5 don't have last round bolt hold open, and they're just as fun to shoot. To me its about having fun.
i know you don't prefer momentary only but it is a copy of the modbutton which is momentary only. momentary is the most popular for many training academies which is why sig went with it.
That's a THRIL RTG grip on the FM lower. I have one, it's okay, but I would prefer it had a storage plug. And I would like to know where I can find more information on how to mill out the JAKL upper in order to do this, this is very close to what I would like, although doing the same with a BRN-180 might be nicer in some ways.
The JAKL is not an AR-15 upper, it doesn't even use Stoner's impingement system in it. It runs a long stroke gas piston on it more similar to an AK than an AR. The only AR bit to it is the ability to mount in on AR-15 lowers.
It’s basically another version of Stoners AR-18 so technically it’s still an Armorlite….kind of I forgot if Stoners AR-18 was Short Stroke or Long Stroke
"It's essentially an AR-15" my brother in christ.... No dont say it. It may share some ergonomic features and bolt design, everything else it's different
But...doesn't this just take a nice JAKL and make it use AK mags instead of ubiquitous AR pattern mags, and also delete the last round hold open? Cool concept, but I'm struggling to see how this accomplishes anything noteworthy.
It’s just something different, and in some cases a preference for some. I own 5.56 AKs and a Jakl, so I do see some of the appeal. I remember when I got a KS47 and everyone that used it complained that they wish it had LRBHO. So clearly removing AR functionality to accommodate AK mags isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. If any of these manufacturers want to build an AK-like rifle with AR functionality, I think they should look at the QBZ-191.
I prefer the undeniably more positive lockup, and the impossibility to over insert ak mags. I don't really care that it's a few tenths of a second slower.
@@otterconnor942how do you over insert a mag? Been shooting AR15s for some time now and no matter how hard I insert a mag. I have never “over inserted”.
@@FXIIBeaver some mags don't have over insertion stops. So when you're loading from an open bolt, if you pop it in with reasonable haste, it'll override the mag catch. Magpul now has over insertion stops, but pretty much everything pre Magpul pmag doesn't, and all aluminum mags are susceptible to it.
The Galil is a lot cooler on paper than it is in reality. And "all the plastic shit" enables it to use the superior stanag mags, so I'd say that's just about the best part. Overall, it kinda sucks.
@@Electroniclizard I know, I have a 16" 5.56 Ace II. It's a great rifle but clunky and heavy for what it is, can easily get an AR with the same barrel length that's 2 lbs lighter. I mostly want the rock n lock Galil more as a novelty piece because that's how the original Galils were.
More AK than AR. That's for the best. Why would you opt for rock anc lock 5.56N mags? Children. There is a reason why they've spent 60 years trying to "improve" the AR and "find the right cartridge." It's pretty mediocre. The AK defines rugged, reliable, light and accurate "enough," excellent in battle. 5.56N is pathetic and 5.45 is right there with it Gotta be .30 cal for me. The AK12 is OK with some troops, hated by many. But I'm a Norinco Type 56 guy so... Yeah Zastava M70 or Arsenal or a VEPR if you can't do Chinese, however, PSA's China guns are worth checking out.

Basically the VUK they teased
Honestly, I think this is better than the Vuk.
I got this lower at home and now I feel the need to do this

I saw this on Reddit and fell in love with it immediately

😭 the feeling when someone makes your next dream build before you can
They need to release the jakl with ks47 lower
I’ll deal with the dang ol QC and warranty work until the thing runs
They call it the Vuk. Don’t know when they’re releasing it. Also, as someone who owns a KS47, the lower sucks.
Super sick build!
I like it. I imagine it has the HK G36 feel on it instead of an AK12.

Incredible
I would have switched the charging handle to the other side for more ak authenticity. Things hella cool
Definitely needs the ac unity ak12 mag with pod arms 5.56 conversion follower
You mean AK19 mags? Yeah, AC Unity makes those, too. I have a dozen of them.
Can u show where u milled some material off ? I won’t to do the exact setup u have thanks
The PWS is the best long stroke gas piston upper that will work on any AR lower
Right, but it's not bufferless, which would not achieve this look.
Did you guys have any difficulty with fitting the Foxtrot Mike lower with the JAKL upper? Really cool combo btw I'm interested in trying myself

Possible dumb question, what are the triangle pieces he references to cover the gap called?

Lost me when you said it's "essentially an ar15" when in facts it works more like an AK
I wonder why FM hasn't made a rock and lock version of their ranch rifle.
Kinda want to build this in .300 blk
I believe they make a 14.5” pinned and welded 300 blk upper
@essaarif7941 yeah, think so too. Just gotta get brave enough to dremel the upper out. I got the lower sitting at home
Me too

Did you flag your camera man at 2:21? Sure looked like it.
Nice build, can you do this on Jakl 300 Blk upper using same ,5.56 AK mags?
Should be exactly the same process.
Kinda cool tbh
What are the “EARS” called so I can buy them?

Where is that lower on there site?
You’re welcome
im not a big fan of the looks of this build, doesnt look terrible doesn't look great, but its really unique which is cool to see
Good video.
I'd say the Galil ACE is the AK12 we have at home...in fact I did in my video about the ACE :)
PSA leaked a picture of an AK JAKL way back before the VUK that looked like this.
That wasn't a leak, lmao. That was an early test unit where they fitted a JAKL upper to a KS-47 lower.
But...doesn't this just take a nice JAKL and make it use AK mags instead of ubiquitous AR pattern mags, and also delete the last round hold open? Cool concept, but I'm struggling to see how this accomplishes anything noteworthy.

just kit out an ak74m style rifle and youll have a better gun than an ak12 gen 2,3
