Thank you for this explanation. I had / have one. The white leaves on mine stayed in a ball unchanging for maybe six months. The plant is in a self-watering pot with a clear base so I can see the water level and the wick. A root started to come out of the bottom reaching for the water below. The root continued to grow so I knew the plant was alive so I just kept water available to it. One day a second 'trunk' sprouted from the side of the original trunk and green leaves began to form. Soon after, all the white leaves which had opened had died as had the part of the trunk above where the 'second trunk' had popped out. About a week ago I placed the tree in an east-facing window and, sadly, it seems that was too much for it in a single day and the three leaves shriveled and went limp. Now the plant is in a shadier part of the house and the leaves are a bit perkier but still sad looking, so will see what happens. I have a picture of it with all the white leaves if you want me to send it to you Scott.

I have one that I grew along with two other that came from the same place and its albino, it’s been living for over a year and the reason i believe it’s still alive is because one of the leafs was able to produce chlorophyll on only half the leaf so it’s half white and bulky and half normal with the green part growing bigger. The new leafs after still grew even tho no chlorophyll was being produced. And just recently one of the two other I grew together randomly started producing a white leaf !! Which is so weird because it was just a normal looking one when randomly produced white leaves!!
mine looks like that!! The reason I found this video, researching why it looks like that! I rooted a seed from a store bought avo. sprouted up, had one leaf then put on these little white nodes. I kept it under the grow light.. it then dropped the two leaves it had grown.. I still kept it going, and now it has 3 branches and several knew leaves coming out of the white parts! My avocado tree is tall and skinny! I transferred the seed from a pot that I had in the shade outside. After a few months I dug it out to see how the seed was doing and it had started to sprout! I was so happy. I transferred it to a bigger pot inside by a window that gets lots of sun and the results have been fantastic.
I have one of these as recently. Mine actually had two small green leaves but they have died. The white flower like leaves are still alive. Does anyone know how much sun these need or don’t need?

I have 2 avocado plants growing right now. One is normal, the other has a thick stem with underdeveloped white leaves and developed green leaves. Interestingly, one of the white leaves grew into a green one, but it still had the white part close to the stem (:
My new sprouts have green leaves on the top and the new leaves from the bottom have a green line in the middle of the leaves and white beautiful edges!

I actually just had a pink albino avocado tree that was absolutely beautiful, although that one only lasted about 6 months but was amazing
@@ScottGrowsanAvocadoTree Well I guess a way of thinking about it is that the avocado suppliers in your area are just very good at picking the avocados at the right time and getting them at the correct time when they are ripe! 🤣 All the best with your trees as well! 🥑
Did you grow the seed in water in the sun or a different method? Every time I grow mine in a plastic bag with a tiny bit of water in it, they grow white leaves and have a shorter/thicker stock. If I grow them in water with tooth picks, they grow really skinny and tall with green leaves... I always assumed the had to do with the humidity where the seed thinks it is in the ground/skin and needs to be stronger to burst out of it. Either way, they will eventually grow some green leaves out of the top elbow part where the white leaves are coming out of the trunk.
Makes a whole lot of sense! This happened to the last batch of avocado seeds I started growing. It came from this bag of “mini” avocados. Probably just picked very young!
Omg! I was so baffled as my second avocado is exactly like the one you’re talking about. Thanks for the great deal of information! I adore it and see it had some small leafs but they didn’t take so it’s left with the white ones for now. I exposed it to sun and heat and will see what happens :))

I left an avocado seed in a dark bag for months, and it developed white leaves. I moved it into soil, and now it's starting to put out shoots of healthy green leaves!

I've had avocadoes turned albino over the winter where there is lack of sunlight/humid that's what changed my avocado.

Oh that’s amazing! Mine didn’t take unfortunately - it had some green leafs coming after the exposure to the sun but they dried off :((
