Ezra is the best jedi anyone has ever seen.
I love the fact that even after all this bullshit Ezra was still thinking about the sith holocron and at the first sight of Kanan he was like: "Ok daaaaad... so, can I have my vaper back?"
The Empire doesn't usually allow any species other than human in their ranks, let alone in such a high position, but Thrawn is a very...very special case.
Aside from intelligence, he looked pretty close to human. You can just put on some fake skin on and contacts for eyes and there you go, thrawn as human.
thats not entirely true. They do use non humans in a lot of roles we don't really see in on screen content (as analysists for example). They just don't really use non humans as stormtroopers or high ranking naval positions. Thrawn is unusual in that sense yeah.

@@matthewcronin2325 They abandoned it. Filoni tends to abandon things he sets up. Just like he abandoned Slick's rebellion in TCW. Ezra's dark side could've been very interesting to explore, but they barely scratched it.

Most reactors talked about Thrawn most of the time in their reviews after this episode, while they only checked the actor playing the character and that's it. Noting, absolutely NOTHING about his character!?! I can't... it's a crime! 💀

Meet Grand Admiral Thrawn, one of the greatest choices to bring out of legends to Canon. (Not to mention one of the most satisfying, yet deathly calm voices in Star Wars.

The original name for the jedi in Lucas' script was the Jedi-bendu. The original names for the light side and dark side was the Ashla and the Bogan. Y'all probably already know that Thrawn was ported over from the old canon (legends), can't wait for you guys to see more of him!
Ashla was also the name used by the Lazat to describe the force.

They started this way way way way way to late. Should of been done before rebels back in august.
So if you notice, those markings on Kanan's mask resemble the ones on Rex's helmet. In legends where there were other Mandalorians helping Jango train the clones, those markings resembled the eyes of an extremely deadly beast the Mandalorians would fight as a test of strength and skill, if the Mandalorian was victorious they would paint those markings on their armor. The Mandalorians training the clones would allow a few who really impressed them to also wear these markings. I know this is all legends but with Sabine on the crew and her love of art I like to think that she painted those markings on Kanan's mask as a sign of respect for him defeating Maul after loosing his sight.
They're called "Jaig Eyes" and actually I think it was Rex who painted them on Kanan's mask
Fun fact: the force power Ezra used on the walker was mind dominate- something very few force users are capable of pulling off. It's a dark sise technique that doesn't rely on tricking someone's mind; it completely dominates it

Grand Admiral Thrawn...what if Sun Tzu The Art of War took the form of a Chiss !!! The best military mind of the entire Empire no question ! Thank god he is canon now ! So different from any other imperial villains, where Tarkin is more of a bored manager of war, Vader an unstoppable force of nature and Palpatine a conniving mastermind, Thrawn is more of a military tactician who play the long game and maximize the results...One of the most loved part of the Legends book serie of Heir of the Empire !
Tarkin might seem bored, but that's mainly due to the fact that he's literally above it all. His strategic and tactical genius has been directly compared to Thrawn's by the Emperor himself (who is a far greater genius in general than both Tarkin and Thrawn combined), it's just that Tarkin, partially due to his higher rank than Thrawn, has a much more broad scope to his job of helping to run the Empire, so he, like his colleague, Vader, doesn't have as much time as even Grand Admirals like Thrawn to focus on cracking down on these rebels.
I honestly find it hard to believe your edit cut out the introduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

And so we have the first official canon introduction of one of Emperor Palpatine's most useful servants: Grand Admiral Thrawn. One of the 12 Grand Admirals personally appointed to the rank by Darth Sidious himself to do his bidding and crush his enemies.
Like his fellow servants, Vader and Tarkin, Thrawn does not require glory, only results... for his Emperor.

General Dodana, who got the Y-Wings, is the General in charge at Yavin 4 and commanded thw battle of the first Deathstar. So those Y-wings are Gold Squadron from A New Hope.
After scanning the comments, I was surprised that I didn't see anyone point out that Rebels takes place AFTER Clone Wars. I guess you could say that watching The Mandalorian was a spoil because you know Ahsoka serves all of Rebels thru the Original Trilogy.
Fun fact, the markings on Kanan's mask, also Rex's helmet, are the Jaig eyes which are essentially the Mandalorian Medal of Honor.

Even assuming they forgot that reference (likely), if a guy with blue skin and glowing red eyes shows up wearing a uniform no one's seen before, and everyone onscreen reacts to his presence and he gets his own music, he's clearly distinctive, if not important.
I'd say the editors dropped the ball more than anything. I don't watch their Patreon so have no clear how they reacted in the uncut.

The Bendu is sooo cool, one of my favourite characters from the animations!
One of the greatest Star Wars villains (If you can fully call him that) and one of the greatest characters in Star Wars to exist has arrived!
Working hard to keep the oppressive Empire in power, yeah, I think we can fully call him a villain. He is great at it though.
Hera is my favorite character because she has no "super powers" and yet she is the first one to act to help/save people just counting on her skills. She is super brave and a badass pilot, I love her!

@drpuma_2901 He was mentioned by Ahsoka in The Mandalorian and again in the Imperial meeting in S3. Both times he was made out to be a big deal.
Even then, you'd think there'd be the slightest reaction to the blue Grand Admiral with red eyes and a lot of focus given to his introduction. But they just completely skip the scene. Like, bruh.
I mean its his first appearance and so far he hasn't been mentioned anywhere else so why should they?

I love how Star Wars animations included so many interesting things about the Force, expanding the concepts and introducing creatures and beings that are users of the Force and not just putting them in the role of Jedi and Sith. Bendu is one of the most interesting and I wanted to see more of him.

Tom Baker is really channelling the Doctor in the role as the Bendu, that mysterious aura and almost cosmic understanding of everything from his eons of life. So cool and needed so we know the Jedi and the Sith aren't the be all and end all of the Force.

Good call on the Lion Turtle/ATLA connection. Visiting a wise ancient is just part of the mythic cycle folks are all mining for these heroes journey stories but still, Filoni was a director on ATLA for like season 1 so I can't imagine that stuff happened in a vacuum.

And thus the best character in the series is introduced Grand Admiral Thrawn.
There are no AT-STs in Star Wars rebels the walkers you have been seeing since the first episode are called AT-DPs all-terrain defense pod. These walkers are roughly 3 to 4 m taller than the traditional chicken walker in episode six. The scout walker is armed to the freaking teeth with gray launchers anti-personnel, laser cannons, anti-vehicle cannons. The all-terrain defense pod is equipped with a single anti-vehicle blaster. It’s the equivalent to a turbo laser. You know those guns mounted on battleships? He designed these walkers dates back to the pre-production of episode six in legends they were re-create it is much much much smaller, but the cockpit and let design pretty much remained the same. In Star Wars rebels, they were scaled up to be towering, walking AA guns.
OK I haven't watched the whole video yet and I'm also sure someone mentioned before but Season 7 of Clones wars happened many, many years before Rebels. Seeing Ahsoka alive there was just expected. :P

And here comes Thrawn, the greatest military mind in Star Wars (and I'd argue also one of the greatest in all of fiction) due to his unrivaled analytical skills and the most inept person you'll ever meet when it comes to political games (as characters have remarked in-universe, which always cracks me up, if I'm being honest).
He's a Chiss, a species from the Unknown Regions of the Galaxy.
He was first created for the "Thrawn"-trilogy of books in Legends which is set after "Return of the Jedi", an amazing book series I can recommend to everyone and anyone, Star Wars fan or not.
Luckily, his creator, Timothy Zahn, is still alive and wrote two trilogies for the New Canon after Thrawn's return in this show. While receptions are mixed on those (personally, I enjoyed them all very much but some people were disappointed with some of the books), most people I've talked to and saw talking about them agree that the first of those books "Thrawn" is also a worthwhile read on par with the books from the "Thrawn" trilogy.
I won't go into his lore since I don't think you can do it properly without being spoilery. Just know that he has earned every bit of hype surrounding him.
Also, do note that whiile the Rebels recanonized him, most people prefer his portrayal in the books as he is not as cold and ruthless there as he is in this series.
To answer your question, in universe, only about 6 months passed between the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3.

I think they’ve fumbled the timeline again. Clone Wars season 7 came out after Rebels but chronologically took place almost 19 years earlier, so nothing is spoiled or changed from Rebels S2 ending…

Ok from "Legends" they were getting more into that (there is no black and no white within the Force ) but since Disney took over and relegated all the books to Legends status Dave Filoni ( who has an affinity to "Legends Lore" you can see him bringing some elements into this Star Wars continuity ). By bringing Thrawn ( a legends character ) and the concept of Bendu being the one in the middle. I personally love that concept, when I read the books and when I first watched Rebels seeing Bendu ( Tom Backer being one of my favorite Doctor Who doctors) I was more than excited of that concept possibly coming into play for some force wielders.

While I am not the biggest fan of the new Disney canon, I cannot deny that Star Wars: Rebels really captured Thrawn perfectly. Lars Mikkelsen knocked it out of the park. 💙
Ezra calling for Kanan so despertaly always breaks my heart, he was only 16 in Malachor and and saw abd felt a lot of awfull sh*t, and he Blames himself for Ahsoka and Kanan, he was hurt, lost and wanted to train and become Stronger to protect his friends. But Kanan gave in to his own grief and completely abandoned everyone, specially Ezra who needed him the most, no one beside Kanan could understand what Ezra was going through.
I can also do a whole Visyal analysys on the Station, but im summary, you have Ezra holding tight falling to his own destruction with Kanan finally coming back and reching for him in the dark, telling him to let go of what happened being able to get him back to the Light before the Dark comoleatly took over.
I Love them so much, and I love Ezra so much 🥺🥺

There's no gray jedi because "jedi" is also a philosophy. Compassion and selflessness are core values. Gray jedi are objective. In the middle, like The Bendu. Compassion isn't required. If you don't have compassion, you're no jedi. This is also why, despite Ahsoka saying that she wasn't, she's still a jedi. More so than the jedi of the fallen Republic. It's like a religious person leaving their corrupt church, saying that they're not part of that religion, then still practice their teachings. That's Ahsoka. She's no gray. She's still compassionate. A jedi, like the Mandalorian correctly titled her in her live action debut, which takes place after Rebels.
