Finally someone who holds yarn the way I do. I am a beginner, but holding yarn this way and creating tension with my hand without pointing my pointer finger to do it just works for me. 😢 I kept wondering if I was doing this wrong because most videos show the tension by holding the pointer finger straight. That is difficult for me. So I was happy to see you hold the yarn like I do. I am going to make this for my granddaughter. Or at least attempt it. My work is not as perfect as yours but I am teaching myself with youtube. I am 69 and just now learning. All my family crocheted except me. They are all gone now. Finally I get it. Thanks for an easy to follow video. 😊
I'm glad you started off with a good tension technique! I have a little video on proper crochet tension that you might find interesting. ua-cam.com/video/PxAVTN_T3mk/v-deo.html I also have a beginner crochet series that you might find helpful for all the basics: patriciafentie.com/2019/06/17/beginner-crochet-series/
Took my 2 1/2 hours and didn’t do the full headband but this is my FIRST thing I’ve ever crochet so I’m very proud of my self the tutorial was so easy to follow!
Excellent tutorial! I always make the mistake of crocheting into the chain stitch and get an uneven result. You're the first person who mentioned how to identify a normal v stitch and avoid crocheting into the turning chain stitch. Thank you so much.
I found your video today. This was my first crochet project ever and you made it sooooo easy!! Your video and instructions were so easy to understand. I can't thank you enough. I do believe I did a fantastic job!!
made this headband in 35 minutes. Woohoooooo!! what a beautiful and easy pattern it is. So so easy for beginners and its so meditative while following these 2 rows. 100/100 thank you for sharing this with us!!
Just made this for myself with a small ball of Noro yarn I'd been holding onto waiting for the right little project. Turns out I have enough to make 2, 1 thick, 1 thin. Love it!
I am new to crochet and was able to make the headband using a variety of yarns. She was easy to follow and go out showing the step. I learn the difference going between the front and back loop
Hi Patricia- I just found your UA-cam channel and finished crocheting this amazing headband. I've only been crocheting for about a year and this was the first headband I have ever made. You are an excellent teacher and I'm looking forward to making more projects from your channel. I hope you are doing well and thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge! One love.
I love how well you explained everything in this video. Just finished my first headband and will absolutely be making more. Thank you so much for such a great tutorial!
What a wonderful step by step video. I made one in under an hour and love the results! Your voice is soothing and your instructions were clear and easy to understand. Thank-you for teaching me how to crochet such a beautiful design. God bless you ~ Ally from Canada.

This pattern is so lovely and so easy to follow and work up! You do such a wonderful job demonstrating how to work the pattern. Thank you so much for sharing it!

This was such a quick and easy tutorial to follow! I just started crocheting a few weeks ago and I will be making tons of these! Thanks for the tutorial!
I‘m ecstatic I mastered it the 3rd time. I was struggling with the sowing part however I slowed down the video and understood where I went wrong. Thank you so much for this tutorial. Now I'm going to make everyone and their dog a headband 🤣🤣

thank you so much for this tutorial! it took me a few tries to get the size of the band right but once i did, this turned out amazing! thanks for helping me with my first crochet project 😄
Um hi, i love this so much but i have a quick question so in the second step after i make the second chain u said we can adjust it now to either add or undo stitch and i need to add like 2 stitches or so, but idk where should i add them since they're not in the first chain?
So, this means unraveling the first row of sc and then adding the stitches in the foundation chain. It's a bit of work to redo the one row, but better to do it now and get the right size!
@@createandcrochetwithpatricia i read this comment abt an 1hr ago and was planning to update you after I do what u said and finish it but unfortunately that was so hard to do! For context the yarn I'm using is sort of hairy so when I tried to undo the stitch row I figured out it was stuck in tiny pieces of the yarn it self, I had to use all my force to rip it apart or drag the hair piece off and as I finished the row I decided to start all over to count correctly and do it more precisely, BUT (lol so much happened sry to bother you 😂) I faced the same problem and I was trying to apply force BOOM! the yarn cut off .. I was speechless but ended up still untying the cut off yarn so I can either use it to make a small headband for my cat or for anything else! But I'm also thinking abt the magic knot if I should just tie the end hardly to have all the length back? But I don't think it'll work with this kind of yarn? So what do u suggest I took a whole hour to undo everything! And it made me tired I'm sleepy now still didn't sleep 😔 And again very sorry to bother you but I'm really excited to do this headband lol *hopefully the next comment will be after I am done with the project! Love you bye :)
I don't really know what to say other than to make your first headband using a yarn that is not so disagreeable. Once you have the size and stitch count figured out with a yarn that is easy to work with, then you can use the yarn that is hard to work with...
Someone left a comment about making the band too narrow and I accidentally deleted it (I was sleepy). So, I just want to say well done for finding a resolution! 👍👌
Hello new friend from Uganda...welcome to the wonderful world of crochet! I have many tutorials that are suited for beginners, so have fun. I'm always so amazed by the connections we make through the internet! 🙏💕
That is so awesome and what a great idea to do a crochet along! I've often thought of doing something like that on zoom, but I think I'd need two cameras and I can't quite figure that out... Thank you for you very kind comment :)
@@createandcrochetwithpatricia Hi! I'm having a hard time getting over the back loop for the first row because I'm left-handed 😭. Should I loosen the chains more?
You could try that...use a crochet hook that is half to one size bigger for the foundation chain and maybe the first row, then switch back. Also, have you ever tried putting the video in front of a mirror to watch the tutorial in reverse? I've always wondered if that would help lefties...
There could be a couple of issues... firstly, the yarn might have a lot of 'twist' in it and that can cause this problem. Also, if your crochet tension is too tight, that can also be a problem. Here is a tutorial on proper crochet tension: ua-cam.com/video/PxAVTN_T3mk/v-deo.html But in any event, once the piece of fabric is made, you can block the fabric before you sew it together. Then, once it is all sewn together the issue should be resolved. 👍👌
@@createandcrochetwithpatricia looove the way you made the knot I always wondered how to do it without twisting the band this way is sooo much better!!! Thanks again :)
You would want to measure the chain comfortably around the head of the baby/toddler. You can also check out this chart by The Crochet Crowd to get an idea of sizing. Take into account that the chain will stretch a bit as you crochet, so don't make it too loose. thecrochetcrowd.com/crochet-hat-sizes-reference-guide/
It does have a tendency to curl, and once it is sewn together, this will be resolved. But if your tension is too tight, then it will curl more. You can try using a crochet hook 1/2 size larger or check out my tutorial on proper tension. ua-cam.com/video/PxAVTN_T3mk/v-deo.html
That is so wonderful! The fabric can curl for a couple of reasons... one may have to do with the yarn. Some yarns have quite a bit of 'twist memory' which can make this happen. The other, and more common issue, is crochet tension. There is a proper way to control the tension of the yarn through your hand as you crochet. I have a tutorial here about that: ua-cam.com/video/PxAVTN_T3mk/v-deo.html In any event, you can block the curled fabric by wetting it and laying it flat to dry (with pins) or use a hand-steamer, before you sew it all together. Hope this helps!
What fun just finished my first one and it’s lovely except too small will fit my granddaughter so off I go to try again. Thanks for the easy directions
Row one is the first row of sc's into the back bump. Row two is the beginning of the pattern repeat (and I do say for the first row, but I mean for the first row of the pattern repeat). Sorry, I didn't mean for that to be confusing, but I do clarify that at the end of row two at 5:54. So row two is the sc in the top loop, and row three is the sc in the front loop. Repeat those two rows...
Newbie here…just wanted to clarify…do I do 2 rows of crochet into back loop at the end? Or do I just end with one row front loop, one row back loop? This is my first project! 😊
Row one is the set up row, then you repeat rows two and three. The written directions are in the blog post (see the link in the description box below the video). But here is row two and three for your convenience: Row two: 1 sc in the back loop (top stitch) of each stitch (65 sc), ch 1, turn. Row three: 1 sc in the front loop (bottom stitch) of each stitch (65 sc), ch 1, turn. then do row two, then row three, then row two etc...
I don't. but I do have a tutorial on how to make a cowl using any stitch pattern... ua-cam.com/video/E62kPRat-c4/v-deo.html I think the stitch pattern from the head band would look wonderful as a cowl!
It could be a twist in the yarn or that your crochet tension is a bit tight. You can try using a larger crochet hook or watching my tutorial on proper crochet tension. While the curling appears to be problematic, once the panel is done, you can block it either with a hand-steamer or wet blocking method. Then when it is sewn together, the curling will not be an issue any longer.
Wonderful! It sounds like you may be crocheting with tight tension, I have a tutorial here on how to hold proper tension, but you can also just use a larger size crochet hook. ua-cam.com/video/PxAVTN_T3mk/v-deo.html
Whipped it out in 45 minutes and now I know what I’m doing as gifts for everyone this year!
Wonderful! You'll get even faster after a few 👍👌
That this something can do.
Literally my same thought!

Thank you so much for making such an easy to follow video. Now that I know how to do this I'm going to make tons of these.
Wonderful...and you are so welcome!
Very pretty thank you very for sharing
Your lovely work ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🌍
My pleasure 😊
Thank you so much for this awesome pattern ❤❤❤
You’re welcome 😊
love this pattern! but mine keeps curling as I go.. have I done something wrong? its not laying flat.. thank you!
There could be a couple of issues... firstly, the yarn might have a lot of 'twist' in it and that can cause this problem. Also, if your crochet tension is too tight, that can also be a problem. Here is a tutorial on proper crochet tension: ua-cam.com/video/PxAVTN_T3mk/v-deo.html
But in any event, once the piece of fabric is made, you can block the fabric before you sew it together. Then, once it is all sewn together the issue should be resolved. 👍👌
Thanks I used thick yarn took me about 20 mins !!! Thank you so much
Wonderful! That is amazing... 👍👌💕
@@createandcrochetwithpatricia looove the way you made the knot I always wondered how to do it without twisting the band this way is sooo much better!!!
Thanks again :)
It really is amazing how it is so simple, but looks so great 💕🙏
Thank you so so much! I’ve already made two and love them! I was wondering how many chains you would start with for a baby and toddler size??❤
Thank you for the great tutorial. I'm enjoying making the headband. But, why is mine curling? I can't get it to lay flat.
This was so easy to follow and looks so good! Thank you! I'm making some of these to go with spa gifts for my sister and sister in law.
You are so welcome! They really do make such great gifts!
I just started crochet, and I've made 4 already. My friends love them. Thank you so much! Do you have a tip for curling work?
That is so wonderful! The fabric can curl for a couple of reasons... one may have to do with the yarn. Some yarns have quite a bit of 'twist memory' which can make this happen. The other, and more common issue, is crochet tension. There is a proper way to control the tension of the yarn through your hand as you crochet. I have a tutorial here about that: ua-cam.com/video/PxAVTN_T3mk/v-deo.html
In any event, you can block the curled fabric by wetting it and laying it flat to dry (with pins) or use a hand-steamer, before you sew it all together. Hope this helps!
Beautiful. Is there a way we could adjust this for a 4 year old please?
See 2:25 in the video where I explain how to measure the foundation chain around the head to fit. This can be used to make any size for any age.
Just finished
this lovely pattern. Thank you. It was fun and easy to follow.
You’re welcome 😊
What fun just finished my first one and it’s lovely except too small will fit my granddaughter so off I go to try again. Thanks for the easy directions
You’re welcome 😊
Omg, I'm sweating trying this for 1st time! All going well so far 🤪❤
Wonderful!!!
Hi! When you say repeat row 2 do you mean the back bump row single crochet stitch as the row 2?
Row one is the first row of sc's into the back bump. Row two is the beginning of the pattern repeat (and I do say for the first row, but I mean for the first row of the pattern repeat). Sorry, I didn't mean for that to be confusing, but I do clarify that at the end of row two at 5:54. So row two is the sc in the top loop, and row three is the sc in the front loop. Repeat those two rows...
really nice lesson - easy to follow. thank you !
You're very welcome!
Udało mi się ❤❤❤❤❤ moja pierwsza opaska na głowę!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊🎉🎉
Thank you!
But here is row two and three for your convenience:
Row two: 1 sc in the back loop (top stitch) of each stitch (65 sc), ch 1, turn.
Row three: 1 sc in the front loop (bottom stitch) of each stitch (65 sc), ch 1, turn.
then do row two, then row three, then row two etc...
@ thank you! I was really happy to try this as my first project! You explained things so well, and I’m so happy with how it’s turning out!
Well done! I do tend to have a lot of projects that are suited for beginners, so make sure to check out my other videos :)
@@createandcrochetwithpatricia do you have a neck warmer that would match the headband?
I don't. but I do have a tutorial on how to make a cowl using any stitch pattern... ua-cam.com/video/E62kPRat-c4/v-deo.html
I think the stitch pattern from the head band would look wonderful as a cowl!
Did I do something wrong? I am halfway into making this headband and my project is curling inward. Is that supposed to happen?
It could be a twist in the yarn or that your crochet tension is a bit tight. You can try using a larger crochet hook or watching my tutorial on proper crochet tension. While the curling appears to be problematic, once the panel is done, you can block it either with a hand-steamer or wet blocking method. Then when it is sewn together, the curling will not be an issue any longer.
@@createandcrochetwithpatricia thank you so much!!
Is it ok to do an odd number of rows with row 2 repeated twice in a row at the end if I don’t have enough yarn to complete an even number of rows?
For sure, you can finish off wherever you like. The top edge may have a slightly different look from the bottom edge, but that's fine!
Thank you! My first project. Somehow it’s small enough for a baby doll but I finished it and it looks decent so making a bigger one!
Wonderful! It sounds like you may be crocheting with tight tension, I have a tutorial here on how to hold proper tension, but you can also just use a larger size crochet hook. ua-cam.com/video/PxAVTN_T3mk/v-deo.html
Now I know what business ill start
Wonderful! Here is another pattern that is similar and super easy to make: ua-cam.com/video/fvEuEtNdMqI/v-deo.html
Mine turned out amazing I used navy blue, and it fits perfectly ❤❤
Wonderful... I'm so glad!
