Sounds like my kind of place - if there is fresh produce I am interested. Used to check out Stanger(KwaDukuza) and Verulam Markets when my hubby was still alive (Mandini didn`t have that luxury). Miss the smell of fresh herbs (mint and thyme etc) and the exchange of recipes.
Hi I am from Mandeni . Used to do veg shopping on Friday at Stranger Manor car park. Verulam was a treat. Now living in Durban, Bangladesh is a ritual.🙏
hygiene is poor, need to clean the place up...stopped going there because of it....lots of litter on the streets outside the market...local councillors slacking
Thanks for the "blast from the past"! I'm Chatsworth born and bred. Bangladesh market was our vegetable shopping Saturday experience. Simple and wonderful life...

You would never believe Bangaldesh Market was originally a thesis project of an Architect. It was created by this person siting a market and used in their Masters thesis in his study of Architecture. The market was created from an Architects thesis project. The document is available at UKZN. As every thesis project is available to students.
Got back from Cape Town after 15 years and your vid made me quite nostalgic. Sweet memories of my hey days in Chatsworth. Really enjoyed your vid it made me salivate just looking at the variety of snacks. Even more interesting I enjoyed watching you taste the various snacks perhaps you should also start a food vlog. I must agree with you guys,I live in Cape Town but I have visit the market when we are in Durban. My sister and her husband pastored the church on the CNR of 301&326
Founded by my late great grandmother and her family. Selling veggies on the veranda's on the u3 main street then cutting down the bushes and selling where the parking lot is now. Their veggies where sold out by 10am in the morning.
hi, i enjoy watching your videos, as i am formerly from shallcross. just a request if possible, can you go slow when video screening. in order for us to see everything properly. but god bless u guys and i am looking forward to seeing more videos.
In the mid seventies there was a stall called the 20c stall. All vegetables were prepacked and sold for 20c. Today I saw 1 kg potatoes advertised at R29.
You have to go early in the morning to avoid crowds, which we tried to do but it was still really busy. I hope you enjoyed your visit and do it again soon! Thank you so much for watching.
This plce use to be jammed packed on Saturday people frm all over use to do their shopping. Nd marketing ther no parking use to be , chicken vans use to park on da sidewalks defeathering da chick's, burn , quality food for Ur money it was da time of our lives we really enjoyed Good Indian fresh food nd produce 😊❤👌👍👍
Bangladesh cause the market was invented for indigenous laborers who came from abroad, cost of traveling to Cbd, Town, where Indians sold their veggies etc at Warwick junction and Victoria street market. Bangladesh was created for ppl who couldn’t travel to Town! So local Indians also needed to make a living so they used to sell outside the shops eg, by Ismails, Captains, Shaiks, outside the used to be famous Fisheries was run by aunty Neela 😂, or she could shout the boys for mischief. Don’t forget P.Lallals he sold more grains than Gorimas 😅. Also due to culture background they stuck to Bangladesh not necessarily mean breadou or Tamil ou 😅😂 . Those days there was no structure, ppl used the car park to sell.. slowly converted that car park with the structure. Thanks to Tiger, Mr Rajbansi who fought for the Indians to have a structure. Fragrance street market is new, probably built up 1995.. years now but not as old as Bangladesh. My mom used to sell veggies with her connections by P.lLallas, uncle Harry n aunt Shanti this was Bangladesh in its bloom. In any area know your history, don’t just rush in without the story. Fragrance street has two stories, one the cops used to find dead bodies inside that bush.. cos the gang fight or rivalry bodies get disposed there.. culprits never caught 😂😅😂. Notorious unit 5.. had Italian😅, Russians, Germans😅… don’t stress these were codes 😅😂😅😅 . I used to hear the stories from off old.. Don’t forget busknife Bobby, the real McCoy, lives in Springfield. How I know this cause He’s a family friend.. second it was a toilet for ppl 😅😂 the stench from that place was unbearable. My dad worked at RK khan hospital that stairs was the only access to Gora bakery and Daddy’s supermarket where the price was right😂😅. By the way I’m not fluffy just put up my adorable doggo that I miss😊.. 😂 All the shops have changed.. no more uncle Hannif, No more Doddoo boy😅 small shaiks shop, no more Ismail owner naughty sons, Abbu and Abbas.. probably find them at the Ismails Hardware😅, no more the old tea room where the boys often spend there change on arcade games went home and complained the owner robbed them😂😂.. That was Narsees 😮😅, Now there’s a bakery with not so good things.. Medina furnishes are really really old, every household bought the pine design kitchenette b4 built in cupboards took over😅. Don’t forget Salon De Mala she started off at Bangladesh where Medina butchery is, a tiny section, moved into Gs building now Hillary shopping Centre. The gentleman’s Barber the 3 elderly uncles knew their customers, knew the cut n style, I think one was called Shorty, Ah He was good. Nithiya’s florist was down the market place next to prayer shop, but all was a big building just divided by discreetion😂😅… my mom only took us Nithiya s , cos more deeper the more the mess from Hassan butcher, n smell of offals put her off. Those days the tea rooms had a distinct smell.. the smell of fresh baked bread that was just delivered.. the shops were relatively clean. Now it’s a mess. P.s can’t end this without chatting abt Adam’s tea room, AKesh, Ajay, former Shallcross residents, my mom knew their family very well.. They were called the FatBoys😂😅 weekends was money night. the Adam cinema used to have live shows, which we thoroughly enjoyed especially Suitcase Munnima.. based on reality, my mom former neighbor hid the drugs in the suitcase and bun.😂😅😂. It was Gordon wife 😅I can say it now cos she dead 😢. Don’t forget old movies ppl used to watch.. Now that is New Bethesda Church you spoke off that you pass.. Old temple was run by uncle Moodley he was former Lotus school caretaker, elderly uncle with white hair… anyone recalls him? Hopefully some ppl are still alive to share this story..That was entertainment at Bangladesh.. not now drugs , murder etc.. thumbs down 4 now until the next show 😅😂
Thank you for the history lesson. This was definitely way before our time. The vibes are still amazing even though people still struggle with the norms of life. Thank you watching ❤️
