Durban is my favorite city in SA. Lived there for 2years. I also lived in Jborg, CPT and Pretoria. But Durban left a mark on me.
If you are a Capetonian and have seen all the local sites, Durban is definitely your favourite domestic tourist destination.
Corruption, lack of accountability from those in power is a real reason why Durban in in such a state
Bunny chow > Corruption
If Durban was properly maintained and governed, it would easily be among the best locations IN THE WORLD. KZN in general is a beautiful place. Just a pity about the municipalities lack of everything.
Thank you for making this video. I am American and the first time I visited Durban was in the late 1990s. If an American can name two SA cities, it would be Johannesburg or Cape Town. Wanting to be different, I chose Durban and I have revisited Durban about another 9 times.
Yooow you sound like my America friend who fell in love with the city first time he visited. Its a great city flood or no floods
Siyabonga Mnumzane. iKhandlela lakho liyakhanyisela. Gods Blessings to you for wonderful words
i live in Durban, its a nice place...

From a Capetonian: Durban and its northern and southern towns are just amazing. Where else in the world can you swim in the ocean in the middle of the winter?😂
We indeed have a beautiful country😀we just need to vote the ANC out.
@@truesouth6532 I am an academic and not a politician. But from what I have researched, most apartheid-era elections went according to the propaganda of the day. Currently there seems to be the same situation that most voters do not think about the real issues, or whether another representative could improve his/her say in parliament, but rather to vote according to old connotations or new propaganda. As much as I love the SA youth of the 2020s, they are politically naive and easily absorbed by the empty promises of rogue politicians. So sad.
@@IwasInThe60s I agree. I just wish that the other political parties would be more visible so that people know that there's an alternative. Also just take advantage of social media campaigning esp UA-cam podcasts. People want to know what your policies are otherwise how does the youth put you in power when they hardly hear from you. Trust me, ears are open, the right people just need to speak.
Seriously I can’t wait to see it with my friends
😭😭😭
@6:25 Sawubona Durban.
Nghithanda RSA!
Big ups to the Zulu people for having pride in your land, language and culture. I'm currently learning the language
Welcome to our beautiful city, Durban (Siyakwamukela edolobheni lethu elihle laseThekwini)
Most of indians they understand Zulu and Very strong like Zulus now, Durban is a home for rainbow nation,
I spent a year in Durban between 2013 and 2014. I worked for a company in the Dinnor House building on Smith Street. Durban is such a beautiful city.
"I wanted to find out for myself,"
We all need to want to learn more about people instead of listening to rumors.
Thanks for visiting my city 🇿🇦
Right on !!
Exactly
Love this
Absolutely.
Absolutely! I just hope that the South Africans would also have an open mind to want to find out about their brothers in other countries and not be quick to condemn other countries and it people, just bcos of the few bad elements and rumours they hear.
Durban is laid back, chilled vibes.
I love the weather.
I moved from Durban to Amsterdam 3 months before covid hit and was only able to visit again in April 2022... as the floods hit. Durban and the whole of SA felt like it was hurting and that everyone was keeping their lives together with duct tape. I love Durban and hope everything improves for everyone. I am forever a Durbanite
Crazy comparing Durban to Amsterdam
it will never, maybe only in your dreams

Love this balanced story about Durban. You answered the question I had about Durban.
Everyone I talked to in South Africa about Durban had only negative things to say about it. This left me wondering why people were being so negative about it.
As a South African we are often spoilt and often do not appreciate how privileged we are. Middle class South Africans have a better more abundant lifestyle than most people in first world countries.
It's only when I was dealing with a lot of foreign tourists in Cape Town recently that I realized how privileged we are and how much we take for granted.
So many South Africans emigrate due to our negativity and return shortly ofter with a completely different outlook and appreciation for our country.
Durban is lekker! It could just be Lekkerer!
First time I visited Durban I was in middle school in 1998, it was such a beauty to look at, still a beautiful city with warm subtropical weather but it is now extremely badly governed and administered, every time I go there I can’t help it but notice the decline and collapse of infrastructure. South African people, vote for better and patriotic politicians who love their respective cities and towns.
Thank you for being honest. Durban is going down at a fasr rate.
I'd like to applaud you for the quality of your content it is supreme
We lived in Durban for 7 years and it was wonderful. Went to Ushaka at least once a week. Had to relocate to Gauteng for business which was horrible. After three years we gave up and moved to Orania because we're Afrikaans but Durban and its wonderful people will always have a special place in my heart. I hope they can solve the crime issues but in my opinion KZN needs full independence to escape from the shadow of Johannesburg and Cape Town (the most overrated place in SA btw). Not once did I experience discrimination or unkindness from anyone in Durban and because the Zulu people are so obviously dominant demographically they are actually very gracious about it. Indian food is faaaaaantastic!!!! Kuswag skool in Amanzimtoti was an excellent school for my children with pure, deep rooted Christian values and wonderful teachers. Baie dankie Durban!!!!!
What a beautiful comment, you changed all this negative feelings I had about the people of Orania
I think you are still suffering from a hungover if separate developments, that why you ultimately moved to Orania. It’s not easy to relearn new ways at the old age. You were raised to see whites as superior and indoctrinated among those lines. No matter how hard you try to hide it will always come. You are a victim of false religious believe that Afrikaners are covenant nation and blacks are wood cutter who deserve nothing best in life. Unfortunately this keep under false sense of security that you are saved and that you are barter. The danger of this believe is that you directly live as the enemy of the cross. If you can accept this truth Gid can start a journey of rehabilitation in you. You can’t live in love and hatred at the same time. You also can’t put old wine into new wine skin. Leave your old simple ways and Gid will accept you.
Beautiful share. And good wishes
Can I come to Orania and open a bunny chow joint promise won't make it hot n all.
Everything you said was great except for "full independence" of KZN part. Stop trying to separate south africa. South Africa is beautiful as one country.
South Africa is beautiful 😍❤️
Durban is a nice, laidback city. Waiting for the Real Estate videos. I know they're gonna be great. Keep up the good work.
I loved the people in Durban, and the food! (I lived there from 2019-2022) However, after living through the horror of the riots, floods, the badly run municipality (we would often have electricity without days because sub stations kept blowing up) crumbling infrastructure, and Ecoli ridden sea, we decided to move back to the Western Cape. I miss our friends terribly.. but I left Durban feeling traumatized.I hope the problems get fixed.
It is a beautiful province with so much potential.
I’m moving from Atlanta to Cape Town in 2 years .. can’t wait to enjoy this daily
2 years have already passed, have you moved to Cape Town? how are you ? I think that within this year I will make a trip to South Africa to Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg to see if I can base myself in South Africa or Malaysia or Dubai.
Love how you keep elevating the quality of your content, great work as always
I like the video, and the city has a layback vibe. There are a lot of economic activities going on there, and the people don't hustle like in New York or Chicago. The cost of living is reasonable. Thank you, Stev, for such exposure.
Just know Durban production level or capacity is bigger than alot of African countries that I won't mention here for the sake unity for African
Enjoying your South African series. Can’t wait to visit. Only had a layover there (Joburg) to Namibia.
Steve your doing well with this exclusive video, thanks for showing us durban in South Africa.. I enjoyed this video from the beginning to the end
I have visited Durban many times but I am still visiting. Durban has the best weather in South Africa and Africa as a whole. If you like to have fun, this is the best place, and the people there are friendly (Zulu) and the community is multicultural but peaceful. It is true that Durban is the African Playground.
Very good points. There are too many good attributes about Durban to mention. But from a Capetonian's point of view, the friendly people (including those of Indian descent), the seafood and the warm ocean takes the cake.
@@IwasInThe60s You've just added cherry on the pie.
I'm watching and enjoying the Durban episode I can't wait for the top 10 luxurious places in Durban KZN.
The stench of sewage hanging in the air can't be hidden. Going onto the beach and into the water represents a huge health risk, no matter what the authorities try to tell you.

The last time we visited Durban was right before the floods, as we left it started raining, a week later containers were floating on the highway. We’ll be back but as Joburgers looking to go to the beach, we’ll wait for them to sort out the beaches first.
Your videos are on point bro.. well-done
Nice tour of Durban, South Africa the land of the Zulu. I like the aquarium, and I like the beach butt sculpture. I like Verik snake and ostrich wallets. Last I like the sea.

Love my City but I am not a tropical person. I don't like the humidity but just Love our winter months. Lived in Durban my whole life, so much greenery. There are areas to avoid but that's the same all over the world. Since Covid and Floods our city needs cleaning up.
I was born in Durban, grew up in the Durban been through all the ups an downs in Durban which Ed shaped me into the person I am. It’s a beautiful place.
WOWS WOWS WOWS amazing! My next trip to South Africa! Will be to Durban for sure 😃
I tell people they sleeping on Durbans potential.
Great videography as always Steven😉👍
It has potential but the construction Maria's n the corrupt incompetant municipality are chasing investors away
Really great video! Culturally, Durban is unique for its Zulu, Indian and English influences.
Travel outside of KZN and you very quickly realise how different the rest of SA is in that regard. Way less Zulus, Indians and English white South Africans in such high concentrations.
I once saw an ad describing Durban as 'Africa's Miami'.
Well said.
@Steven Great Job my brother❤️
I was a Durban bred and born person. I'm now 74 and lived there for 64 years. I Swam in all the beaches, including the paddling pool as a small boy, that were there in the sixties and onwards. Addington, South and North. You could leave your clothes, towel etc. on the sand, go for a swim and come back and they'd still be there. We used to catch trains from Malvern, Queensburgh to Durban Central station and walk to the beaches. When we were young men we'd hitch hike at night to the Fun Fair that was on the beachfront and have a ball. It was so safe. Now you don't dare walk along the whole promenade at night. You'll get mugged and robbed or worse for women. Even the Fun Fair is now either closing or is already closed due to not enough tourists. We all know why they stay away. Sadly its gone downhill and I'll never go back there again.
@StevenNdukwu Thanks for this video, I’m from Durban and left 13 years ago.
Yes, the city has its problems but social media can certainly make you believe that Durban has completely collapsed, I must say I also fell for the negative reports (though imagine some are true) but like you I should give Durban a chance.
Looking forward to exploring my city as a “tourist”. We need to inject some much needed spend to rejuvenate the city.
Durban has the potential to be the best city in Africa. But sadly it's been pillaged and plundered by a corrupt municipality for too many years. The cbd is disgusting and dangerous. (Which is why most big business has moved to Umhlanga) , and the crime is horrific. Pretty much every middle class area is surrounded by shacks and shanty towns, so there is a lot of break ins and worse. I have lived in Durban for 35 years, but I would gladly leave if I could. The grime and filth is just too much. I worry for my kids safety as I have been a victim of crime many times. Home invasion, muggings, been shot at twice, been hijacked, plenty of petty theft etc.
30+ years in Dirt Bin, and I wish I can leave too.
great collab!
Steve was the name of your bag or backpack, i love it . Thanks for another video, God's Grace again
One thing I've realised about South Af3ica is how cheap accommodation is over there.. very nice luxurious locations infact .. wow.. only 650use for that.. ? That's a single hotel room price and maybe even some lodges and guest houses price for that in Botswana.
But overall I'd rather go to Cape town than Durban

I think Durban is not appreciated enough. the climate here is amazing and I believe it has a potential of being one of the best cities in the world.
Yoo I fell in love with Durban , i visited three times. Sherpstone, Mtwalume and and there was this place close to iFafa Beach 🏖 I forgot that guest lodge. I enjoyed the welcoming of the Zulus, as I was talking my hybrid Ndebele of Zim they loved that I wasn’t hiding myself. And we get along nicely Still today we chat on watsup. I can tell you only if you give some people respect you will be respected too, .

I love Durban, its a pity how the inner city is deteriorating and beaches being polluted.
South Africa is a country of immense beauty, captivating all who are fortunate enough to call it home. With its diverse landscapes, from majestic mountains to pristine coastlines, it offers a natural splendor that is hard to match. The vibrant cultures and rich history further enhance its appeal, creating a tapestry of experiences that leave a lasting impression. Interestingly, there are critics who voice their opinions about South Africa but choose to stay within its borders, especially among the Caucasian population. This paradox raises questions about whether they truly appreciate the country's beauty or overlook it in their everyday lives.
Despite the critics, South Africa's allure remains undeniable. Its natural wonders, cultural diversity, and historical significance make it a truly enchanting place to live. From its awe-inspiring landscapes to its vibrant communities, the country offers an extraordinary blend of experiences. While it is puzzling that some critics never leave, their voices serve as a reminder to pause and reflect on the beauty that surrounds them. South Africa continues to beckon those with an adventurous spirit and an appreciation for the extraordinary, ready to embrace its wonders and create a life in this remarkable nation.
It's not just the whites who whinge incessantly about SA, but that is beside the point. Most of the whingeing concerns corruption and crime, not natural beauty, and most national parks are only solvent because of the year-round tourism that white people bring to them. Go to any Sanpark, KZN or Cape Nature reserve to see for yourself. You'll see seas of white people, a smattering of coloureds and Indians, and a small number of black people. Some fear that the lack of appreciation of these reserves among the majority will actually lead to their destruction, something that *cannot* happen because South Africa remains one of most biodiverse places on earth and its wildlife must be protected at all costs.
Good job ChatGPT
Great video!
Africa is such a beautiful channel
I located to Melbourne from Johannesburg 20 years ago. Every year I go to SA and I definitely go to Durban. My Aussie husband loves the culture food and vibes. The first time we went there my sister told him not to give any money to beggars, instead to buy things from street vendors. He couldn’t resist giving money to two kids. Within seconds he was surrounded by a cloud of children demanding money. He, and I, thought they would carry him away. 😅 we still go but he is more wary and mindful of safety, especially where he thinks he can walk. Having said that, he absolutely loves the Zulu culture and loves the surrounding countryside.
I honestly thought the Durban Tourism Board would react after the unfortunate AKA incident and those devastating floods with such PR to try and reassure tourists... dunno if they reached out to you Steven because something needs to give. Security is a serious issue and it's sad that leaders just get bodyguards and leave ordinary people on their own. I'm talking from experience...and to be honest I have nothing against the place because it's lovely.
That is so true Buyani
They get paid whether they do anything or not
If that is the mentality, it would be very unfortunate. It's not a good look on the city when something tragic like that happens and to keep quiet means you're indifferent, which can ruin the image of Durban forever
Rest in peace AKA

I was born and raised in KZN and it is oozing with potential but it’s political parties that have dominated there for the last three decades have allowed it to decay due to incompetence. It isn’t safe at night but daytime probably best time to get around. There are places to go for cheap where you could have a lot of fun but be careful for your belongings and your car.
