    I'm running dual SB-3000's in my small living room home theater and they're awesome! My sound system consists of 4 SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers (2 for the mains and 2 for the side channels), an SVS Ultra Center speaker, 6 SVS Prime Elevation speakers (4 ceiling mounted for Dolby Atmos and 2 mounted on the back wall for the rear channels) and 2 SVS SB-3000 Subwoofers. The system is powered by a Yamaha Aventage RX-A8A 11 channel AVR connected to a Panamax M5400-PM Power Conditioner.

    I have the sb3000 for my two channel music system. With the app, I had little trouble dialing it in, and getting it to blend nicely with my tower speakers. My challenge with REL, is they really like to have runs off of the speaker wires to help with “blending.” Positioning wise, that would not work for me. I use SVS wireless. I could do the same with REL, but that seems to cut against their best practice.

  • @rovd4433

    Nice review thank you. You're right. Base on your review, I've bought the sb3000 and it's a monster bass blaster!!!!! I owned the sb1000 before and the sb3000 by far out performs it obviously. This thing is shaking the entire building with thunderous beefy bass and for the respect of neighbours, I have to adjust this demon. My room size is almost like yours and the sb3000 is an over-kill. The sb3000 will debut at my girlfriend birthday mini party pretty soon.

      what do you think?

    • @rovd4433
      @rovd4433 3 роки тому +1

      Bro. I would say go for it. Do not worry the sb3000 output is adjustable via the app. For me, I'm not an audiophile so I'm happy with the sb3000 plus I do not have enough space. I can feel the pressure for it as far away in my bathroom with all the dishes, microwave, washer rattling. My flat (lounge/kitchen bathroom and bedroom) is overpowered by the sb3000 and I can feel the walls shaking when I'm outside on the staircase. OMG my neighbours!! They could report if I dare crank it up to full volume via the av receiver. Movie is like earthquake!! I sometimes reduce volume when a movie scene is too explosive, I just can't stand the thunderous impact from this thing. Only few hard to please audiophiles would condemn this thing. One sb3000 is more than enough for me.
      With that said, you could even reduce the bass to zero if you want. My description above is based on how I've programmed it to be. Note, it is small but not that small though plus it's a bit heavy.

    As well, I live in a community, so my question directly, is it possible to dial down the bass, as you said, full control, to where I can play music at a low level, and not every track be THROWN back with Bass, rather it be a Pony car just teasing the exhaust at a red light?
    I'm afraid the RELs might not give me joy...

    Hi Jay,
    Did you connect/integrate the subwoofer through high level inputs or using the sub-out/lfe channel? In the video, the RCA cable in not plugged into the LFE channel input on the SVS. Also did you crossover the subs using the app or inside the avr/amp dsp?
    Planning to get dual subs for HT but am also into music - wondering which is the better way to connect (with the Yamaha RX1080 + PSB X2T tower speakers)
    Thanks!

      It's not a question of more bass, rather it's "better distribution of bass". I have high-end speakers, but when I added dual SB-3000's the bass engulfed the entire listening area. When listening to "Money For Nothing" by Dire Straits, I could actually feel the bass in the pit of my stomach, although my test instruments indicated only a 3dB gain in volume. Absolutely amazing!!!

    There is no doubt the SB3000 is a great value and better than the Rel HT/1205 at $300 less. However, as this is my final go around I am going to buy two Rel HT/1508 Predator's for an additional $800 each. 15" with superior speed and punch. Stacking the two I should get high teens in hz and they will be much better for music than a more expensive SVS sub. What do you think?

    There is a scientific reason why this happens. 1. One needs to understand the differences between sealed and vented subs. 2. On vented subs one needs to understand the differences of tuning and alignments. Once you learn that you will understand how tuning affects bottom end and the tradeoff of output and its relation with displacement of the woofer and which frequencies. Which tuning you use can depend on what type of music you want to use it on and the tradeoff you select. Both of the prior 2 topics will explain the differences between subs at low output. At higher output, one needs to be able to dig into the mechanical performance of different drivers. Quality drivers perform better and cost more. 3. Integration requires proper phase positioning and also the bass alignment of the main speakers. 4. The low pass crossover will depend on the low end performance of the main speakers in the room. Sometimes a Linkwitz Riley aligment is better than a Butterworth or Bessel function. It depends on many factors but without a microphone and the ability to configure the bass alignment then a lot of guesswork is required. The low pass slope 12 dB, 24 dB, 48 dB also plays into the room and main speaker performance. Ideally a user configurable app is best. as was provided however some more EQ and Filter tuning is also required. The ideal sub is not absolute as a lot depends on one's own circumstances and setup and an understanding of what the main system is doing. You can begin the journey of sub integration by purchasing something like a MiniDSP box, a good mic from same company and downloading REW ( Free and fully functional) and start learning how to use it and testing and listening. In the end, always remember, you cannot beat physics and nature. Low frequencies require you displace a lot of air volume. Air volume is the piston diameter multiplied by the displacement of the woofer. In vented systems, the port takes over as the piston diameter at some point. Small ports = small piston. and this requires larger displacement of air in port. The greater the travel of the woofer, the harder it is to maintain low distortion. DSP and high power amps trade off surface area for displacement( power required). Servo control also make the displacement lower distortion as active feedback is used to control displacement power to make it follow the signal better.

    • @michaellee6654
      @michaellee6654 4 роки тому

      Oh yeah, even on the simple sealed sub, you also need to understand what happens with the alignment of tuning of the sealed box ant the lower limits and how this relates to distortion , phase and power handling. Power handling can be displacement limited or thermally limited. Try a DIY good sub, get a good driver, get the components and play with them and everything and how commercial subs work will become clear. Then try a Benchmark AHB2 on same setup and realize that some sub amps have trouble handling low end not shown in the power specs.

      To keep it even simpler for people - For movie fans a good ported sub will be better as it will go down to a lower frequency 🎬
      For music fans a good sealed sub will be better as slightly less distortion and tighter bass than a ported sub 🎶
      Conclusion: A good ported sub will get down to around 15-10hz or even slightly lower. Enabling you to feel the very low frequency effects in movie's like The Edge Of Tomorrow etc. Lot's of action, Sci-fi, horror etc movies can have low frequencys under 20hz.
      A good sealed sub will will have slightly less distortion and get down to around 20-30hz. Has no ports so the bass will be tighter than a ported sub. Plus It doesn't need to get any lower as most music doesn't go lower than 40hz (apart from some niche orchestra and pipe organ music)

    • @michaellee6654
      @michaellee6654 3 роки тому

      @@C--A That is a generalized statement that has no science behind it. That it might be true in certain circumstances does not make it correct. Sealed subs always exhibit rising displacement below their resonant frequency which is typically a higher level than what a vented sub does. However, a sealed sub rolls off slower than a vented sub would. This allows a higher level of very low frequencies. The transient response is also better than vented subs are. Vented subs typically would be flat to a lower point than a sealed sub. As long as you don't want or need the lower frequencies that is ok. Now vented subs can be tuned for different "alignments" that would allow different resonant frequencies and transient response and also "displacement" of the driver at the same frequencies. This is the tradeoff companies like REL and SVS and all competent designers all know about. That is why there are different models in a brand even with the same woofer. They can achieve different performances for different markets. Saying one sub is better than another is not correct, nor is a generalization of what might be best or even one "brand" for that matter. Start doing some learning and get a little more information about this. One starting point is to google "Thiele and Small". I followed them from the 70s to understand a lot of how low frequency design is done. Oh, and these guys were researchers in universities in the 70s. It's all science. REL uses their work But Thiele started the ball rolling. It helps if you know math at the university level.
