- Here's a copy of the promotional video. But I used the LP version to remaster the audio, which is slightly longer than the single version. I was able to modify the video to sync it up to the audio, and extended the end a bit too. I'm very happy with this one! I have to thank PenarthJem for the bulk of the source video, Andrea Bonanni for the 1st 25 seconds, and TheMrbjanka for the UK picture sleeve shot at the end (check out his post of the alternate Instrumental version of the song, it's really cool!) Peace & Love.
Gabriel, Collins, Fripp, and Kate...Doesn't get any better.
That IS quite a quartet, ain't it. Add John Giblin on bass and Morris Pert on percussion, and you've got one helluva musical force there. And no cymbals -- go figure.
+twostikks1 not a single cymbal on the whole album . . . .it's like heaven ;)
+Axel Gschaider Whaddaya have against cymbals??
Nothing personal actually ;) They are just huge dash of white noise in the upper register. And I like the clear and relaxed sound of this (otherwise not so relaxed) album. Which I also attribute to the lack of Bish, Bosh, Busssssss, Binnnnnng and TsTsTsTs
Kate is a real babe, i didn't know that Collins is features here though his presence is essential. Love this song
Peter Gabriel - lead vocals
Kate Bush - backing vocals
David Rhodes - guitar
Robert Fripp - guitar
John Giblin - bass guitar
Larry Fast - synthesizers, processing
Phil Collins - drums
Morris Pert - percussion
stefano farci yeah! Half of Brand X is on this track!
David Rhodes of Random Hold!
Phil delivers one of the best drum fills in recorded rock n roll history...at the 2:03 mark.
especially since he was prohibited from using cymbals on the entire album
King Lerch
Right, I read about that cymbal prohibition in an article some years back. It definitely gave the album a distinct feel and cohesion.
At exactly the same time in 80/81, The Comsat Angels also followed the "no cymbals" rule (Angel...Gabriel).
Good thing he had a bit of self control or we’d here those cymbals ringing.
It's an odd drum fill , but awesome
PG III is such a great album.
If he made it to 13 albums, he could've called it PG-XIII.
indeed..the best PG release ofthe 80s....imo
This is the baddest drum fill I've ever heard, and I've been paying attention to drummers and drum parts for many years. It's funny how "In the Air Tonight" is recognized as the number one drum fill in rock music, while this one has gone unnoticed.
Intruder is the godfather of gated reverb.
Agreed. Anyone claiming Phil is not a good drummer or a one off performer..well, Peter Gabriel disagrees.
The Progfather !!!
Geoffrey Jonathan Wilson that is probably true!
I've literally never seen this until today and this is my second time (of many) through. Goddamn this song and album still kick so much ass.
The Progfather! I still think Peter had a fantasy going on in his mind ☺️
One of the greatest ever artists to ever live I think.
It's as if he has a fantasy
going on in his mind!
@Qwerty123 Peter Gabriel, Dave Mattews, Björk, Dan Bigras, and so on... Such people really influenced Arts by their writing, imagination, music, sense of emotion, etc. Discovering Peter Gabriel when I was around 10 years-old was good for me. Then when I was twelve I discoved Classic-Rock, Prog-Rock, Psychedelic-Rock and so on. Music, as every Art, is something that can really shape humanity in the most diverse ways. Let's hope we'll stand tall enough to overcome today's industries... We can't allow creativity and originality to be only a story from the past. I'm personally lazy, but I still have projects waiting for me to give constant efforts. I wish the best for everyone in 2021 and beyond!
I've worshipped Gabriel since I was in school and still love him 32 years later and never tire of his music however many times I play it.
I've eaten some ice cream yesterday.
Peter's a musical chameleon!!!
41 years old!! Unreal. I played a s*** out of this album. This, talking heads remain in light, the police, zenyatta mondatta. 1980, I was 21 and loving life. And Phil's drumming is killer in this, no question.
I dont know how to stop... Listening to this song.
Having the same effect on me. Great Stuff! All of Peter's work/art is truly special. And Tony Levin, his drummers... He love his drums. Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh huh Huh ... Like A swarm of Bees. Geenie Ass I say this as a 40 year professional drummer. Great Stuff!!!
Nothing can stop me now
Nothing can stop me now
Nothing can stop me now
Nothing can stop me
Just discovering Peter's Gabriel music and daaamn he influenced Reznor alot.
An absolute masterpiece in every shape and form and from any angle you look at it. Stunningly sharp lyrics and the perfectly suited musical backdrop. Top this up with the live performance and you have a timeless prog rock classic.
The live performance of this song by PG at the Live in Lycabettus ancient theatre in Athens in 1987 has been permanently etched in my memory. Thankfully, it has been preserved and remastered for all to see in perpetuity.
Mind was blown when I learned Gabriel and Bush worked together on projects such as this. Please don't give up is amazing, but this exceeds everything I have ever known...
Phil Collins tearing up those toms.
they had to get a new set of drums after this was recorded XD
Great song and video. Somber and evocative. Love Peter's sinister dance moves.
Such a brilliant artist for sure 😊
E' inutile sottolineare che il terzo LP solista di Peter Gabriel è in assoluto il mio preferito. In questo brano, in particolare, l'uso delle percussioni è semplicemente sorprendente, anche nella versione video!
Absolutely marvellous. Thanks for posting!
Chilling.
Timeless. Leaves me breathless every time. What a piece of music.❤
I luuurve peter gabriel in this! He's brill x and with his bandmate, phil on drums - that gated drum sound, is the best sound x with @KateBushMusic , her beautiful backing vocals blending perfectly with Peter's xxxx
I can imagine Liam Gallagher practising this in the mirror
He's the greatest lyricist imo.
I don't know of anyone who mixes myth, legend, fantasy, biblical allusions with greater deft.
outstanding
This album is his best work so far for me
Bravissimo!!
My 2021 theme song.
i love the bit at 1.30 when peters wratihing around and the band in the background look so good at what they are doing......like when the bass player drops right down to the floor.....just fits the music so well its awsome.
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush full power in one amazing song. I don't get why no new bands request to cover these gems.... though I'd probably spit on them if they did lol.
Lot of people in this world think you are weak if you expose the dirty underside of life that informs the worm at its heart. Love to is fleeting as even the beauty is a beast and the light fades with new shadows cast over its object.
Part Gabriel, part Brand X, part Kate Bush. Fantastic!
@Martin Haskell - Yeah, that’s a great mathematical equation!
And part King Crimson
That drum roll at 2:04 is the best drum roll I've ever heard in a pop song
The middle bit is awesome
Fantastic record. All of it
Superb job! Thanks for posting this gem!
OMG!! I've never seen this! Thank you so much!!!
Magda Grover Cool! Glad you like it!
@@twostikks1
As great as his later stuff is I am particularly fascinated with his early work.
This is freaking awesome. Thanks for putting it up - never seen this before.
Peter Gabriel was so unwilling to be “normal” back then. In some ways, I kind of miss that. In other ways, not so much.
I remember seeing him during his 2nd album tour, where he performed “Me & My Teddy Bear”, and sat on the stage singing “Mother Of Violence”, when he rolled his eyes up toward the back of his head as he sang the end part “La de da da de de da …. “ or however it goes - it was totally bizarre and very cool at the same time!
@@twostikks1 Yep, if it doesn’t get you out of your comfort zone, it isn’t art.
That being said, I had the good fortune to finally see him live on his Secret World tour. He seemed to get his point across without being quite as weird as I picture his live performances might have been like earlier in his solo career.
Well done!
Thanks, Mr. Mclore McClure! I really didn’t do much, but I suppose it was enough.
Great voice
Kate Bush doing background vocals at 2:34?
yea
Yes
Holy shit Robert Fripp is standing up
PETER GENIUS GABRIEL 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
OLLE... HACE 10 AÑOSSSSS..... GENIAL!!!
He looks like Martin Landau in this video
Gracias, Gustavo.
Peter Gabriel et la danse de no self contrôle c'est fantastique
Esta versión es aún mas cautivadora
Phil must've been on holiday. Would've been nice to see him sitting at the drums.
That kubrick stare is bonechilling just like Intruder.
Dont forget Kate Bush's input...Fantastic
Here peter Gabriel looks like a vampire. Could be!!?? No self control because are hungry for blood. Then this song bloody rocks. Rock, xylophone African influences. New age, so out there so ahead of his time
Any links to the MrBjanka version you mention in your description, please?
Good work! As i'm not familiar with video anyway I didn't really notice you'd repeated a bit of the video to fit the longer album version in!!
Yup! That is exactly what I did. Nice catch! I guess it worked, too, since you almost missed it. : ) I kind of constructed a video for "The Rhythm Of The Heat", too -- from some BBC TV footage -- if you like that song, you might dig the video. Here's the link:

: ) Thanks for watching!
Ahead of his time!
Genesis spawned brilliance!
part early Genesis, part Gary Newman?
I wish I could see all the
musicians properly.
Another cut from the treasure trove, of PG video's.
Phil Collins heard the drumsound and the rest is history .
he's playing drums here
twostikks,i think he is brilliant.
Geoffrey Jonathan Wilson I’m revisiting his catalog! Even did covers of 2 of his songs right here on my channel, “Here Comes The Flood” and a vocal cover of “Moribund The Burgermeister”!
I think he’s a crazy genius. 🙂
Me too! To me he's like a
chameleon lizard.Or to put
it another way,a musical Merlin.I love Don't Give Up,
with Kate Bush.
Good for you twostikks!
You won't regret it!
I also like early Genesis.
Geoffrey Jonathan Wilson With you on all bullet points, Geoffrey!
What is “RM”?
“RM” means the sound is remastered; it’s not the soundtrack that originally belonged to the video, I used the CD as the audio source. And the video itself is slightly altered to accommodate (read: FIT) the album version of the song. The entire video was carefully synced up to the CD audio using audio/video software.
@@twostikks1 Thanks, man!
No David Rhodes...No Random Hold!!
Kate Bush on backing vocals
Yeah, that's her, Bry. You DID get it right -- but I'm sorry, you don't win any money!
Like a swstn ofbees
Music as art not delusion.
I had no idea Kate Bush was in this song.
They often collaborated together and thank God they did 😀
are you serious?
Andreas Kreuz - serious about what?
Robert Fripp!
Gabriel ripped off Brian Pern, end of !!
A BBC Comedy spoof about an aging Rock Star? Are you daft? Or just a young troll looking for fun?
Some people can't spot a joke.
Peter Gabriel copied Gary Numan
Yeah, that's obvious, especially on the first 7 Genesis albums. Just one question: What kind of CRACK are you smoking? They're not even close in style.
BlueSoulJim You like Gary Numan, I prefer PETER GABRIEL!!!
Who ripped off David Bowie who ripped off Bryan Ferry....
as a fan of both Peter and Gary, i'm still scratching my head as in 'how did Peter copied Gary)
@@trendybistro I love Bowie but he ripped off EVERYBODY. Sure, David Bowie recorded way before alot of people but he still managed to rip off Kraftwerk, Iggy Pop, Peter Gabriel and dozens of others...
