Ada class anti-submarine corvettes.
Ada class corvettes developed primarily for the Turkish navy during the first stage of the milgem project. The ada class design objective was to build a modern littoral combat ship, with national anti-submarine warfare, and high seas patrol capabilities, and designed as low observable and stealth design vessel. In 2005 Turkish defense industry s s m signed research and development contract for two prototypes ships considered to be testing platforms. Thus, being an open-end project, first and second ships of the class were expected to be slightly different in terms of vessel design and system configuration. The subsequent vessels, scheduled to be built by private shipyards, would have a more optimized design and configuration. The construction works of the lead ship, TCG Heybeliada commenced on 26 July 2005 in Istanbul naval shipyard. TCG Heybeliada was launched with a ceremony attended by Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on 27 September 2008. On 2 November 2010, Heybeliada initiated sea acceptance trials in the Sea of Marmara. Heybeliada entered navy service on 27 September 2011. Cost of the TCG Heybeliada was reported around 260 million dollar.
General characteristic
The ada class patrol and anti-submarine warfare corvette, has an displacement of 2400 tonne. It has a length of 99.56 meter, beam of 14.4 meter, and draft of 3.9 meter. It has a complement of 93 including aviation officers, with accommodation up to 106. It can carry 2 lightweight and high perforce high speed boat, and also have an aircraft hanger for a heavyweight anti submarine helicopter, or unmanned aerial vehicle. The vessel has a Capability of storing armaments, 20 tons of JP-5 aircraft fuel, aerial refueling (HIRF) and maintenance systems.
Propulsion
The ada class vessels are propelled by a RENK CODAG combined diesel and gas Cross-Connect propulsion plant. It consists of a gas turbine rated at 23,000 kilowatts (31,000 hp) and two diesel engines rated at 4,320 kW (5,790 hp). Each diesel engine drives one controllable pitch propeller via a two-speed main reduction gear. The cross-connect gear splits the power from the gas turbine via both main reduction gears to the two shafts. The ship can be operated in Diesel mode, in single gas turbine mode, or in CODAG mode. CODAG is where diesel and gas turbine engines are providing combined power. The vessel can reach a maximum speed of 30 knot or 56 kilometer per hour, and an economy speed of 15 knot or 28 kilometer per hour. It has an operational range of 6500 in 21 days with logistic support, and 10 days of autonomous endurance.
Avionics
Ada class uses genesis milgem aselsan combat management system. It is equipped with thales smart s m k 2, passive electronically scanned array air and surface search radar, with an air search detection range of 250 kilometer, and surface search detection range of 80 kilometer. Can detect stealth target from a distance of 50 kilometer. It uses sting eo mark 2 weapon control, t b t 1 yakamoz sonar, satcom, gps, lan communication and ecpins, alper navigation system, consists of x band and fire control radar. The vessel has electronic warfare and decoy system, those are ares 2n, laser r f system, anti ship submarine jammers, Surface Ship Torpedo Defence.
Armament
The ada class ship is equipped with 76 mm oto melera super rapid naval gun as main gun system of the ship. The gun has a maximum firing range of 16 kilometer with high explosive ammunition, and 40 kilometer with volcano guided ammunition. The gun has a muzzle velocity of 915 meter per second. The vessel uses two 12.7 mm aselsan stamp close in weapon system. It also consists of 1 rim 1 1 6 rolling airframe missile system for anti-aircraft warfare. The system is contains of 21 missiles, with a maximum speed of mach 2, for achieving an operational range of 10 kilometer. The missiles has an accuracy of over 95 percent. Ada class is also equipped with eight harpoon or atmaca anti ship missile. These sea skimming capable subsonic anti ship missile, has an operational range of 220 kilometer. The vessel can carry two 324 mm mark 32 twin torpedo launcher, which can fire lightweight anti-submarine mark 46 torpedoes, which has an operational range of 11 kilometer, and maximum depth of 370 meter, with maximum speed of 74 kilometer per hour.
Ada class is one of the stealthy designed vessel. Till now it is ordered by 4 countries navy. Turkish navy is the primary customer of this vessel design, and operates 4 ada class corvette. Pakistan navy ordered 4 babur class corvette equipped with vertical launching system. Ukrainian navy ordered 2 ada class corvette. In 2011 Indonesia signed an agreement for 2 ada class corvette.
Ada class design is one of the value for money stealthy designed vessel. It can be customized as the customer wants.
