Malaysia Inks a Defence Deal With Türkiye to Purchase Naval Ships

- It was the first government to government defence deal between Türkiye and Malaysia. The Southeast Asian country announced, earlier this week, that it plans to purchase three Turkish corvettes to bolster its navy. Malaysia's Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin was in Ankara to sign the deal, saying its successful execution will ensure the Turkish defence industry is prioritized as a provider for Malaysia's Navy.
The President of the Defence Industry Agency of Türkiye, Haluk Gorgun, who oversees the country's military systems and technology, praised the deal. Gorgun said Türkiye would continue to share its defence technology, know-how and expertise with friendly countries. The naval ship deal follows Malaysia's purchase, earlier this year, of Türkiye's Anka-S drones which will be used in surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Malaysia, which has been embroiled in maritime disputes in the South China Sea, has been looking to bolster its naval capabilities. Türkiye's MILGEM project, which will construct the corvettes for Malaysia, has also delivered several ships to Pakistan's navy, with the latest one launching last year.

Turkiye defense industry is developing rapidly from technology transfer programs. In 10 years it could become a major power in Europe. I hope many Turkiye companies will open thir offices in Malaysia JV with local companies. We have so much to learn from Turkiye
Malaysia should purchase and set up a fleet of drones to monitor its costal lines in Sabah Sarawak and also Peninsular Malaysia. A navy ship that can carry and launch drones.

The outsourcing business also take a huge pat on PH economy. The PH has been the outsourcing capital in the world with so many establishments in PH connecting the US and the west. The US and PH relationship is more than 100+ years. Filipinos and Americans are not just a close ally but they are like family. Hawaii and Alaska is a mini Philippines with 60% filipino ethnicity. We shared each other culture and we are both christians.

The Malaysia's previous deal with China to buy LMS is questionable because of the ongoing naval dispute with China.
This deal with Turkiye is a step in the right direction because Malaysia & Turkiye doesnt have a naval dispute. And the MILGEM project is Turkiye's national project that carry their pride. Therefore Malaysia can expect the best in shipbuilding.

Malaysia defence is a bowl of fruit salad (locally known as rojak.) Its local ship building is clouded by lot of corruption. The country really needs better immigration process. The greatest treat is not attack by other countries, but more from international terrorists using Malaysia as a safe haven for training and logistics planning.

That's nonsense. The problem with Western talking points is that it's mainly from the Western perspectives. If China invades Taiwan, the whole PLA can be categorized as a terrorist group like Iran's IRGC. Only UNSC should be able to determine what groups are considered terrorists so that the term does not become a political tool to demonize any army that the West considers an enemy.
