I am the proud owner of this piece, prominently displayed in my living room. I gave it to myself for a birthday and enjoy it more even every day! The artistry, planning, and execution never fail to impress me. I love all Olivier’s pieces and videos.
That's so wholesome dude.
“I make art using colored pencils?”
“Oh. You draw?”
“No.”

I turn with them

"We don't do that here"
"I end definitive statements with a question mark?"
I love that this actually has the pencils in a cohesive pattern rather than just randomly placed like so many other colored pencil wood turning videos I've seen. Awesome job!
So much more satisfying this way!

I can’t believe I haven’t been using a circular saw to open my coloured pencils for this long. Thank you for opening my eyes.

You guys are using saws? 🪨

I've always used lasers to open mine, I'll give the circular saw method a shot though.

I think this was probably the most convoluted way to turn wood, but I CANNOT tell you how refreshing it is to not see "I turned a _____!” only to have it actually be "I turned a massive gob of resin with a _____ in it!"

No, but, you need the resin to get the pencils to stick.

So fucking true
I've seen 100 of these coloured pencil projects and this is the first one that seems like a) it took real serious skill to make and b) the end result was actually beautiful in it's own right as opposed to just interesting because look at all those coloured pencils. Great work!

Love love love that there isn’t any resin involved! Feels a little friendlier to the environment in the long run. And it is absolutely beautiful
This is the best wood turning colored pencil project that I have ever seen. Trust me I have seen a lot of them. Some are good but not anywhere near as good as this project. It got to where I stopped watching anyone doing a colored pencil project. This channel has consistently put out great projects with high creativity so I gave it a chance. I'm so glad that I did.
The focus on using the pencil lead as the main feature is brilliant. No resin as well. Much respect .
I peaced out on colored pencils a while ago, too.
Dude this guy has more colored pencils than my school’s art class and that’s kinda sad
Underrated

Bruh you don't appreciate his type of artistic wood work, that'll even impress art teachers themselves bruh.
The colors syncing up with the frame rate of the camera made a really trippy slow rotation, that was neat to watch. I want a loop of that for a screensaver lol. And a beautiful vase in the end!

Watching the colors pulse and spin as the vase spins in the machine, it's almost hypnotic in its own right. Lovely work.
That looks like it would take my whole life to make.

Okay let's make something clear.
Here in France Faber Castell are not that expensive. The sets I bought were on sale so they were LITERALLY the cheapest I could find. Plus, other brand's pencils are often not even made out of wood or are not strong enough. In full transparency, I bought 50 boxes of 15 pencils for $150, and I didn't even used all of them.
Salut, sacré boulot. Cela t'as pros combien de temps?
Any chance you'd sell this vase, or make another one for sale? Curious as to price. My daughter says she needs this lol!
Sorry this one is sold and I'm not gonna make another one.
Olivier Gomis sounds like you didn’t like the project lol just bored?
How long did it take, all told? Including drying time, etc.
seeing the rainbow dust fly everywhere is wonderful

I totally agree. Resin is expensive and you can develop allergies from being exposed to it (some people are sensitive to it). I prefer to do project that use no epoxy.

You've done it again, Oliver, your ingenuity, skill, patience and creativeness seem to know no bounds, taking something many other professional turners have done and rethinking the process. The end result is incredibly beautiful. With your talent you should be teaching the next generation of young men and women not only the skills you have but also creativity. Really I don't think the flowers are needed, your vase stands alone in interest and beauty, I really love it!
I love to watch these incredibly skilled craftsmen at their work. Their creations are works of art. It's interesting, too, that the only music involved is the sounds of the machines running. It doesn't get much better than this.
The color patterns when this vase was being turned were gorgeous.
I like that your approach was to treat the pencils as their primary component, wood, rather than as a novelty embed for resin.

C'est vraiment fantastique. Vous êtes un très grand artiste, d'une dextérité sans pareil. Merci de m'avoir fait voir vos oeuvres et votre façon.
As an artist, seeing so many Faber Castells getting used like that felt like i was watching gore
But as an artist i also have to say i love how you used them Fabers to create a piece of art using your own technique!
AkumaNoRobin On the one hand, the pencils made it into the final piece in better condition than the usual practice of grinding the central core over a white abrasive paper medium, but on the other, I don't think quite as much of the pencil will end up coloring your arms by just drawing, so...
I admit I didn't get more than ten seconds into the video before I had to pause and come down into the comments to say, "FaberCastell?!?!" in horror.
cassandraoftroy good im not the only one..
Well, it takes good resources to deliver good work. Better take the high-quality pencils over them cheap ones.
These are faber castell’s student grade not polychromos, they are essentially crayolas.
I've watched quite a few of pieces made of pencils but this is by far the best one I've seen. Excellent work!
One of the most effective uses of colored pencils in wood turning that I've seen. Amazing mindfulness of placement here.

Amazing tho
@@kingy002 I don't personaly dislike the use of resin, sometimes it can give awesome results. I just don't like when they title their video "woodturning" but there is more resin then anything else. In this case I tried to do it in a different way to try to stand out, out of the 100 other pencil turning videos.
Are you throwing shade at Nick? 😂
Very nice and it had to be delicate to work. The rainbow dust coming off the work was a clue it had to be handled carefully. There is a wonderful kind of insanity to taking that massive stack of pencils and one by one assembling, planing, and gluing and then taking the chance with no resin that is just "signature you"!
