@@igi_igi Korea uses Exynos, so there ain't any reason to buy it from there. AFAIK Samsung uses SD in US, China, Japan since they still have 2G CDMA in-service, which means you'll need to pay Qualcomm to use their CDMA patent. This is why they never used SD there except for S6 when Snapdragon was so much more inferior compared to the same year's Exynos.
Interesting that Gsmarena tests showed a slight lead in favour of S24 Exynos compared to S23, especially in video playback. I'd love to see S24 Exynos vs SD
Yes, they also show data that S21+ has wonderful battery life. For everyones info: IT DOESN'T. I've had s21+ for last year and this phone is simply a crap. Bad battery life, bad fluidity, bad performance. Gsmarena is not good source of data these days. They seem professional in test they make but they're not. Picking a phone based on their test is not smart so i advise everyone to not look at them at all.
The biggest difference is qualcomm has power and performance optimization engineers working, whereas samsung doesn't have any such team to optimize it. It's about investment into resources for better quality.
And if samsung used only EXYNOS then there’s no hate comparison at all like other android brands such as huawei that focusing to used its own chipset for better optimization.
Have this phone w/512gb. Considered getting the 23 due to the exynos, but price was almost identical w/256gb & 24 has 7yrs of updates. Don't game much, so more concerned about the camera punking out than the related battery/heat. Hopefully, updates will address these issues. Now excuse me while I run my own camera stress test.
Just as i thought, first real test between the 2 and as i thought as a day to day phone S23 is more battery efficient. Also, saw the chart where 8 Gen 2 is the most efficient chip ever made up to this date so yeah, result as expected.
Great video! The last time Exynos was really good it was with the S7 that beat easily the Snapdragon variant...and that's the reason why I still own one to this day!
There is no doubt that you identify some differences between two devices, but I am wondering if those differences are in any way important for cellphone users? I have S23 and it is better in battery life then S21 I had before and the screen is brighter, but in the other aspects I can hardly see any difference. I mean there are no apps of features which I can use on S23 with Android 14 and One UI 6.0 which cannot be used on the exactly the same way on S21 with the same Android 14 and One UI 6.0 . Yes, on S23 everything a little bit faster, but you can notice that only if you compere them side by side. If you use them away from each other you cannot notice that difference. The same thing is with Snapdragon vs. Exynos run phones. Differences are so small that they are irrelevant for normal phone usage. Will the battery last 7 minutes longer or application open few milliseconds faster, how important that can be for normal person? Quality of cameras? Right now for detecting difference you must use scientific test tools and devices because even people with perfect 10/10 eye vision cannot see difference in screen.
Yeah, it is important to have a phone that doesn't have a big problem that gets updates for long that is at a good price and that you like. That is it.
@@adarshkumargupta2181 I actually think, it has a little better battery life as day one 👍🏻 Really not bad for such small phone... If you know, you need stay on battery longer, safe battery mode work perfect without affecting phone using (only Always on Display is off) 👍🏻
Honestly, the S23 is so much cheaper right now and still has like 4 years of updates left. I am seriously considering buying a 256gb version once it drops under 700€. Samsung can keep its S24s. The AI shenanigans are not all that impressive to me.
s23 is definitely better, exynos voltage is pushed higher to achieve similar performance to snapdragon hence the lower battery performance. Now as the battery degrades, exynos won't be able to push that voltage and will reduce the core mzh. That's why all exynos slow and lag over time. My brothers S21 exynos ultra after 2 years can't eve use the camera for more than few shots from overheating anymore, in hot weather is impossible to video even. It is really that bad...
at 8:11, we can see that the s24 has the 5g usage for data and it is more battery consuming than the s23 that is connected thru wifi so this video might as well not as accurate as real time usage
One more thing, at ua-cam.com/video/gKs6M6HlfRg/v-deo.html at the start Genshin Impact S23 battery show 14% and S24 28%. At the end of game he is showing 16% for S23 and 12% for S24
@@Oliver-om9ro i think you are seeing is the ram usage. There is no problem on his review but what I want to point out is the usage of 5g since it is so battery draining
Thanks for letting us know. It was unfortunatly an error. When I ended the test I wanted to just drain the battery to zero and accidently connected S23 to wifi. On the other hand S23 was already ahead so it does not affect the battery test as it only happened in last part.
0:52 minor correction: Screen refresh rate in S24 can go down to 24Hz not 0 or 1 Hz. In ultra models it can go down to 1Hz but in regular model it is 24Hz
Not a bad result for the Exynos. If you did the same test with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs 8 Gen 3, the 8 Gen 3 will run hotter. Only the better vapor chamber might change that. It runs extremely hot in some phones.
@jejunamja Before you get me wrong, I'm not saying it runs hotter than the Exynos. It runs hotter than the 8 Gen 2. There are plenty of videos that will show you that, just go look it up. It doesn't overheat, it just gets warmer. Only phones with larger vapor chambers and active cooling will do better. And it's expected when we are getting more power out of something this thin.
Yeah Gen 3 is less efficient this time. Gen 2 is perfect in power nd efficiency imo. It runs cooler with even smaller vapour chamber. It is definitely one of the best chips QC made in a while
@Techmo BIG THANKS for this compare. It is important to us living in the EU. So the S23 lasts longer, same camera hardware, a little bit slower, less but still 5 years support, and the price 30% cheaper. I prefer the plus version, but I think, that comparison would have a similar result. Shame on you Samsung, you had two years to develop the new chip and still struggling with energy consumption. On top of that the previous series does not get the updated image processing even it has the same camera hardware. I'm tired of waiting for the brand to finally put together a good premium phone. Therefore: Good Bye Samsung, I'd rather try an apple product.
Xiaomi 14 would be good compact flagship alternative with Sd8 Gen3. It's slightly bigger, but has 256GB of storage as start with 12GB RAM as next step, not skimped battery unlike Samsungs, higher resolution screen and better camera system with 50MP pixel binning sensors for all three rear cameras. Notebookcheck got top level runtimes for normal fixed amount of processing workloads. Global release should be in two weeks.
Another thing to keep in mind, the S23's battery was constructed 1 year earlier. Even when not in use, the battery degrades, so this means that the actual difference when both are new is even greater
Wait till you see this long term, i bet s24 is not gonna last as long, despite having 7 years of support. Whats the use of the support if the battery is gonna run out faster long term
You have a great aproach 👍. I would only suggest that you redo the test once OneUI6.1 lands on S23 series. I'm guessing it makes a diference, how ever small it may be.
Samsung CPU Temp Limits S24 Exynos - 47C S24+ Exynos - 46C S24 Ultra SD 8.3 - 44C The Exynos 2400 will run hotter because the firmware allows it to. I suspect the S23 also had lower thermal limits.

You're essentially conducting a test on Genshin Impact at 7:43 in a different map, using 5G only for the Exynos model (8:09) until the device drains, and concluding that it's terrible. That is clearly not a 1% error.
Hi, thanks for the feedback. Both are connected to 5G during the test. I have another video that focuses on gaming and the result is consistent. But I agree playing on different maps were not a good idea, that's why on gaming video I played on the same map for the result to be comparable.

Methodology remark: in order to be accurate/scientific, you should run all these tests separately, with the same level of battery at the starting point of each test. That's also because some users care more about watching videos and don't play games, others use gps a lot, etc.
In other videos S24 did better, so it's just margin of error and also in GI game it performed well with constant frames than previous gen Model so may be that's why it used more battery and it throttle much later when compared to S23 which is why the increase the temperature outside the phone, cuz of the cooling the cpu temperature was cooler and also it can cool down quickly.
Great video. Both phones performed outstandingly. I guess that s24 lost more battery power because it is still early on in its existence and maybe future software updates could improve it.

Smaller battery on s23 still won with s24 which had slightly bigger battery...what a surprise for typical exynos power drain. Same here in SEA ... but for me, S23 is enough, SD 8 Gen 2 still did a great job I guess.. and the design suits me better than S24 since the S23 side frame had a bit curved and glossy design, so it's comfortable for me.. fyi, I bought S23 in december, and 1 month later, the S24 released.. and my heart was like, "awh man..." 😂 But after all, I'm still grateful to have this S23, no regret tho. I read somewhere that especially the 4g/5g modem of the exynow is considerably less efficient and power hu try compared to snapdragon. You should test that as well next time!

I am not a mobile gamer so i will buy this phone and i hope its performance will not degrade before it reaches 4 years. What do you think?
I think in general base series of Galaxy S is not for gaming. On Galaxy S24+ I noticed Exynos performs well since the phone is larger. I don't think Exynos is bad this generation at all.
Gaming yeah but did you see that in camera it just stopped?! I'm not a gamer and i really want to buy s24 but i guess exynos is very bad not only in games and in battery, heat
@@rustammetelin4606not the conclusion I made from the Video. Its very early, the camera Thing will probably be fixed. The comment above sums it up perfectly.
Exynos has improved a lot this year, but it's still not nearly as good enough as the work Snapdragon does. Anyway, with this 2400 you will not have a disappointing user experience compared to s22 or s21 and that is an advance. I hope this Exynos improves it with updates
From my experience with Exynos, I can tell people who are praising it, my issues: 1/ The QC varied, so one Exynos was okay, and the next could be awful. This has to do with the yield initially, but likely the fab process as well. 2/ It heats up more, even with a larger vapour chamber. This is not good for longevity and means that Samsung will likely throttle the temperature with updates once the reviews and benchmarks have impressed potential buyers. 3/ With intensive tasks like gaming, it throttles, especially in warmer climates. Being winter, we may not be seeing its true colours, and it could be much worse come Summer. 4/ Battery life started okay on my E2200, I suppose optimised by Samsung for pre-orders, but got progressively worse, and my S22U rarely broke 5 hours SOT. The E2400 is on the same 4nm process, which may still be true. 5/ 5G was awful, and it ate the battery using the Exynos modem in the S22U. I don't know if the S24 modem is better, but I will not touch the Exynos S24/+. I paid the extra for the Snapdragon Ultra.
What nits of brightness did you experiment with setting for the two phones? Why don't you disclose the display brightness? I understand that the brightness of the S24 is much brighter than that of the S23.
Hi, check out my new video, in gaming S24 dim the screen and still uses more battery. I put both phones on 1400 nit, the problem is sometimes the phones forcefully decrease the brightness, and I still don't know why. Please let me know if you have any ideas so I will be more cautious for the next test.
Have you set the brightness using a lux meter? I think that same position on the brightness slider on both phones means that S24 is a little more bright (it has a brighter display). So in this test I think S24 should be set lower on brightness than S23 in order to have the same brightness but for that you need to use a lux meter.🙂 P.S. Look at 2:37, google maps appears brighter on S24 (not by much, but noticeable).
Yes I did 😊 I also noticed sometimes one phone looks brighter, I have two theories, first it's due to lighting of the scene, the second is the phones actually override the manual brightness from time to time, I specifically noticed S24 does it when it overheats. It's an observation and I can't confirm it a hundred percent.
I don't understand people complaining about the s24...I have one with exynos2400 and so far 5* with the battery. I don't use it for games...just social networks...internet...youtube...I use wifi and 4g...and I've had 10h Sot...(battery saver mode on)
Great , much sought video by the one who knows his job, will help me make my decision. Better to buy one year older version s23 than spending more bucks on s24 when u get the same UI and AI experience in both.
I was insecure all the time because of all the comments from people who bashed the exynos2400, have now received my base s24 and what can I say, shut up people, the phone is ultra cool, 2 days in use now, battery cool and performance
Galaxy S23 v.s Galaxy S24 Camera = Screen = Display > Design = OS update > Processor < Overall almost identical and same from last year. If you haven't get the Snapdragon variant of S24. Then it's not worth to upgrade. Samsung really did a mistake again by putting Exynos on S24 lineup. If they want to prove their homemade proccesor it's better to start on other high end devices like A series or use Mediatek Dimensity instead
I just read today that Qualcomm charge $200 for SD 8 gen 3. That's why Samsung keep using exynos - it's cheaper for them to make an exynos chip then buy a Snapdragon. If the phone costs $800 and the cpu alone is $200, that's expensive. It's a big chunk of the profit.
If exynos is cheaper to make, why is phone also not cheaper to buy? PC with AMD chip is cheaper then the one with Intel chip. If they do it like that I would have no problem with it. But this is just insulting...

It's crazy that s24 is heating up more despite having better cooling. Aswell as running out of battery faster despite a larger battery😮 That tells us Tsmcs 4nm node is more efficient than samsungs 4nm. Or that the exynos is being pushed much harder. Probably a combination between the two

Bad battery life, bad fluidity, bad performance. Gsmarena is not good source of data these days. They seem professional in test they make but they're not.
That is it.

How do you know the Snapdragon Gen 3 will run hotter can you provide a link to that?

What would have been the point of upgrading from a s23 to an s24 anyway lol?
Gracias.

Exynos has improved a lot this year, but it's still not nearly as good enough as the work Snapdragon does. Anyway, with this 2400 you will not have a disappointing user experience compared to s22 or s21 and that is an advance. I hope this Exynos improves it with updates
From my experience with Exynos, I can tell people who are praising it, my issues:
1/ The QC varied, so one Exynos was okay, and the next could be awful.
You need to remember that the 24 has had no updates as yet while the 23 has had a years worth so very little has been optimised for the chip 🤷♂️
This is a fair point.
Its an illusion. You see that exynos gets hotter what means more energy gets wasted. No update can fix that. Its physics!
Amazing video! Good job 😎
I suspect that the AMD GPU in the Exynos uses more watts compared to the Snapdragon GPU.

Indeed, I think this doesn't change much. Nice experiment.
Have you set the brightness using a lux meter? I think that same position on the brightness slider on both phones means that S24 is a little more bright (it has a brighter display). So in this test I think S24 should be set lower on brightness than S23 in order to have the same brightness but for that you need to use a lux meter.🙂
I don't use it for games...just social networks...internet...youtube...I use wifi and 4g...and I've had 10h Sot...(battery saver mode on)

s24 has 7 years of updates .. damn
Love to see Anna on UA-cam shorts. Love her.
I thought the s24 has the larger vapor chamber for cooling no?
Yes, it does. It's 1.5x larger.
It also had to work harder on Genshin :D
@@techmo2020 it's 1.6 times larger not 1.5
@@swapnilpatil3346 thanks will correct it in the next video.
@@techmo2020 can you tell me is s24's bezels is even thinner than s22? because in s23 they increased bezals
6:37 fair, but barely anyone does this. Or the company would be in huge problem
Will snapdragon version s23 work in Slovenia? On Slovenian Sim card?
Of course it will work wherever you are!
If you want put verdict maybe check again? S23 is connected to WiFi o 8:10... what a scam
I mentioned it in another comment, that was a mistake but it doesn't have a huge impact because it was only the last few min and S23 was already ahead. I ran the last part of the test again and I got the same result.
Can you do S24+ vs S23 ultra
do you think that for the same price, I should get s23? I am really afraid of the summer where it can hurt seeing that battery for 600 euros dropping.. what do you think? also, maybe exyns will not last long, mayber after 2 years it will be shit..
I was waiting for this test. thanks alot and now I know if I'm upgrading from my S21. S23 will be the decision ...
Why? Keepikg my S21
S21 is still a flagship bro. u dont need to update... or just update to s25.
@@arjunajaykumarkeralaIf someone uses s21 exynos, s23 would be a huuuge upgrade for them, cuz s21 exynos is an utter crap performer for a chipset.
Like! Great comparison job
I think now it is good to buy the S24 with exynos. Although the s23 with SD gen 2 is the winner, the s24 exynos is not far behind with only 6% difference. And with the s24, it comes with 7 years android update while the s23 only 4 years, so you can use the s24 longer than s23. But, s23 is still great phone to buy right now because the price is cheaper.
And u will Use your phone longer than 4 years ?
Well, not all people can buy a new phone regularly. Some people used their phone for 5-6 years before they switch@@DEINVATERDERADLER
Thank you sm for the video, I've been comparing these 2 phones on which I should buy. I thought the s24 should be better than s23 even with a different processor, now i know i don't have to spend more for s24. And thank you for test use genshin cause that's the game that i play 😅
Better screen, bigger more beautiful screen, better sides, faster in most cases. Yea s24 wins
amazing! thank you for the work and, so sympatic !
you already over the 1000 now even 1500 congrats!!

Thanks, really appreciate it 😊
Fantastic battery drain test. Thank you very much ❤
I have s23+ great phone!
I just don't like the sharp edges and in hand feel of s24. S23 feels so comfortable to use. Phones (just like women) need some curves.
I totally agree the boxy edges may look nice but the curve on the side rails is much easier to hold
