    I love your dedication to the testing and research but I have one small correction regarding what you said about Genshin and Vulkan API; genshin impact does NOT use Vulkan by default. It runs OpenGL, which you can confirm by loading GPUWatch application found in the developer settings and then launching Genshin Impact. You can force the game to load the Vulkan API by modifying the game's data but from my tests on S23+ which has sd8g2 it actually performs worse compared to OpenGL, which again might be an issue with snapdragon itself so it might actually benefit s24 with exynos a bit more.

    Very informative, but you're slightly biased towards the Snapdragon:
    1- at 1:44 you say Exynos is almost 32c when it's 31.7, understandable no big deal, but at 2:44 you say Snapdragon is at 38c , when it's 38.8???
    2- when Snapdragon ahead in tests it's "ahead" but when Exynos gets ahead in something it's "in the margin of error" ???
    still respect what you do, at least you're better than every paid YTer out there and you do in depth comparisons cheers

    It seems the best solution for the Exynos... if you game on mobile internet just use 4G. In my area here in South Florida, the speed difference won't be noticeable, as you're getting up to 100mbps, while 5G gets up 400mbps, but most times, you're going to see speeds below (T-Mobile) 100mbps on both 5G and 4G. So it's probably not worth the headache.

    • @Marlon_J
      @Marlon_J 3 місяці тому

      @sandeshms2148 Well, 5G still cause devices to heat up during the summer and in humid areas like where I live (Florida). I have the s24 Ultra, and it gets extremely hot outdoors on 5G during the summer. It's unfortunate that it's that way with a $1300 device, but I have to prevent wasting my $1300 by limiting it from overheating and damaging the phone by selectively using 5G when temperatures are too hot out.

    Wonderful approach, thank you @techmo2020. It looks like you've identified the 5G modem as a key factor for the differences between the chipsets. I wonder if this could imply a trade-off in battery for faster 5G speed? Considering the 5G peak download speeds reported by each manufacturer, Snapdragon and Exynos reach up to 10 Gbps and 12 Gbps, respectively (a difference of ~ 20%). Could this contribute to the battery drain differences observed in 5G testing?

    P.S. I am wondering whether to buy S24 or Xiaomi 14. I like one ui more than hyperOS but Xiaomi 14 has better hardware (8gen3, bigger battery, way faster charging, better cameras as far as I saw in reviews)

    Just used it as hotpot for macbook and had video call without camera on.
    My battery life sucks. It drops to 94% in 10-20 min after fully charging

    a quick question since i saw your battery drain test of s24(sd), S24(exynos), s23(sd), since im also from Austria, I wanted to ask if the s24(sd) works just fine here or if there are any problems with the networks/bands? since seemingly in your video you were able to be connected to both 4G and 5G without issues? I would like to see that done again with the latest software updates. This test you have just done 2 weeks ago is not real life situations because nobody stays at their home for days, your latest tests is more of games which majority of S24 users are not into.

  • @andyH_England

    The general consensus is that although the Exynos is definitely not as good as the SD8G3, for many people that will not be an issue. It still feels wrong to ship an inferior chip to some regions but I understand that Samsung lost a many billion dollar contract to TSMC and that destroyed its profits and they are now having to save their fab business. So, I have to agree that is what they have to do.
    Having suffered the inequity of previous Exynos chips which were terrible, it is good to see that it is clearly not as bad with the 2400. Though that is feint praise as I would still rate the A17Pro, SD8G3 and Dimensity ahead of this. A 10% difference is significant in battery life. The modem on the Exynos clearly is inferior and is why Apple signed a new contract with Qualcomm despite having their own inferior modem. They decided consumer first. That seems the main issue and I am not sure that Samsung can ever compete with Qualcomm in that regard.
    So the moral of the story, light or heavy user, buy the Snapdragon version if possible or alternatively the S23 Ultra instead of the S24+ to avoid the Exynos, as the SD8G2 remains competitive with brilliant thermals, efficiency and performance. I read that v1 of the 3nm Exynos still has a yield

      It's OK to use Exynos in some regions, if it makes the phones cheaper, but no, Samsung ships Trash Exynos 2400 in regions like India and also prices the phones higher than rest of the markets!

    If you think about it, 5g is not available in places ohtside od big cities, if you are in a train for exemple, in tranzit, you either have 4g or wifi available if you want to play pubg.
