How to write songs like Blotted Science: 1. Pick the most insane time signature imaginable, including but not limited to some of these examples from actual Blotted Science songs: a) 11/8 b) 13/16 c) 5/8 d) 11/16 e) Make sure to add ample time signature changes throughout the song! 2. Use an extremely complex bassline to complement the other instruments, and don't let it get drowned out by the other instruments. 3. Use nothing but intricate drum patterns and fills throughout the whole song and make sure no one with less than, say, 7-10 years of drumming experience can even dream of learning it. 4. For guitars, fill the entire song with solos and don't pause for a second to catch your breath; don't even make the parts without solos even remotely close to being easy to learn. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4, 6-15 times, and make each song more difficult to play than the last. 6. Return to your full-time bands and continue making sick-ass music. I fucking love this group.
TozSanchez Well, Schönberg was the first one to use a 12-tone system, and although it's not the same system, I wouldn't say it has nothing to do with it.
7 years later after seeing this for the first time on my old channel, I still cannot comprehend how did you figured out this gem of synchronization...I still can't get enough of this beauty...
I am REALLY glad I found a band with an aesthetic very similar to Animals as Leaders (a band I really respect), but with a more sinister and chaotic sound. This is terrific. It's as if AaL was infused with Buckethead a la "Cuckoo Clocks of Hell". Awesome!
I hope one day Ron can get the rights to these scenes and release a full video album together in high quality. It's a shame the other two videos were removed from UA-cam, I assume for that reason. This is literally one of my favorite metal projects/anything that has ever existed.
If you guys don't know, Ron had another band, Spastik Ink, which has a couple songs very much like this one. Look up "The cereal mouse" as well as "A wild hare"
Maybe Blotted Science started to compose that tune while seeing that part from the movie ^^ Because it's true it's almost perfectly synchronized. When you see those big bugs being hit, there's a drum hit at the same moment !
I 100% agree. Ron is a genius, he has invented his own music system and performs it to perfection. Most composers are mainly composers and not players, he is the epitome of both. I would honestly say one of the most brilliant composers AND players... EVER.
Holy shit how did this clip go so perfectly in sync with this song. This is totally insane. The clip doesn't even seem edited or sped up at times or anything. Fuck yeah this was great
It’s because they literally started with this scene, and then wrote the music around it. It’s a really interesting and original way of creating music :)
Composed to the cinematic piece. Man i hate it when you get attacked by bugs. Very relatable. I was in a similar situation once and let me tell you, it was quite unpleasant.
@@Deathblow85 There's more on Spastic Ink albums too

@TheExhumedScourges That's actually the whole point of the music lol. They purposely wrote music that synchs perfectly to certain movie scenes. It's pretty amazing if you ask me. Pure genius!
been listening to this on spotify & I didn't know this video existed till I saw an interview with Ron Jarzombek the guitarist from blotted science talking about how he created it & how he had to manually sync up the parts using 2 computers unfortunately do to copyrights he couldn't include it with the record.
Actually the whole EP is written as a soundtrack to different scenes of horror movies with insects...the machinegun timing would be an awesome cohincidence....
It's Schoenberg's system almost verbatim. Other composers like Webern and Boulez expanded upon it until we got serialism, which is probably what you're thinking of. The fact that he can employ it so idiomatically is what gets me. Even Schoenberg himself seemed to have trouble with that!
-thanks to it, people who didn't ear about Slither may be interested to watch it, and it means, more DVD saled and rented. -this musician is a real and talkable person, someone who can give us credits for the movie, etc. We can have free publicity here! And this will guarantee that no one not allowed will publish our movie, because this guy wants to protect his rights too. - the music is incredible and do not harm to the qualities of the movie - in fact, it complement it very well.
Thanks shibbyfoo929 for the info. I was figuring it, but it seemed so stupid to me that I really needed a confirmation. It's a real shame, and it's perfectly useless, by the way. Of course you can search for it and found it very easy. If I were the owner of rights of Slither, I would think: -the music don't show more than 6 minutes of the movie
Like cattheanarchist said, Ron's system is very different from serialism. In short, Ron's system is a way to divide and group the 12 notes without the intention of making every note equal, whereas for serialism every note has to be of (more or less) equal importance to each other to give the effect of atonality. Ron even posted something discussing the fact that his system has nothing to do with serialism on his website, you should be able to find it with google.
Sorry, I meant early Schoenberg - I should have clarified. The system didn't start out all that complex. If I recall right, Webern was the one who came up with the idea to use inversions, and serialism didn't come until much later.
There is footage of them rehearsing, but they never got to tour since they all live so far away from each other, and since Alex and Hannes have obligations to their own bands, Cannibal Corpse and Obscura.
Check out Amogh Symphony for fuck sake. That band is out of this world. Ron himself is a huge fan of Amogh Symphony as he has talked about them in various guitar clinics and they've even listed them in the recommended section of their bandcamp page. The album "The Quantum Hack Code" will blow the mind of any Blotted/AAL fan.
I have listened and checked out this videos with the blotted science music, and back in the days I never noticed how greatly Ron Jarzombed managed to made the musicalization for this scene, everything just matches ¨machine precision¨ !!
I don't know what that guy's talking about, but I think I can sort of hear what he's talking about at 0:50. The guitar and keyboard unison is the only similarity I can see between the two songs. Otherwise they're pretty different from each other.
The rule of Dodecaphony is to use each note only once in a complete circle. Technically speaking, this doesn't follow the rule. I've been listening Blotted Science since 2005 when Adler showed off the drumming on MDFest. Jarzombek uses the circle to form groups of random notes and from those random notes he works scales and chords. He repeats the same phrases and notes often, so it's kinda not Dodecaphonic :). If memory serves, Shoenberg used the circle of five notes, not twelve

+GG Allin Don't forget about dem 12-tone system inspired by Schönberg.
+Dr. Florence Ah yes. I was running out of characters for my comment, haha (I was using mobile).
+Dr. Florence actually it has nothing to do with schönberg and so is not inspired by it ;-)
TozSanchez
Well, Schönberg was the first one to use a 12-tone system, and although it's not the same system, I wouldn't say it has nothing to do with it.
Don't forget to add dissonant chords.
The splash cymbal matching up with the guy's machete chops is so great.
Andy Serkis. He also played Kong in the motion capture suit
@@calebbean1384 And him wants the Precious.

It was written to be in sync with the scene using a 12 tone "clock" system
i love how the song goes EXACTLY with the video...that is amazing.
+MrMastablasta117 It's written to be like that
6 years later.. no shit.
I was bout to say the same thing
I am REALLY glad I found a band with an aesthetic very similar to Animals as Leaders (a band I really respect), but with a more sinister and chaotic sound. This is terrific. It's as if AaL was infused with Buckethead a la "Cuckoo Clocks of Hell". Awesome!
LOL
If anything this reminds me more of a sinister/horror version of T.R.A.M.
This is literally the coolest music video I've ever seen in my life. Bravo
From king kong
I actually love how it gets intense when Jack Black starts killing the bugs....but overall, this is a killer song, bought the album, one of my favs.
no one can destroy the metal
the metal will live on
der Mann Punk rock tried to destroy the metal
but metal was much too strong !
Carlos Escudero only a symphony or a classical orchesta song can fight against metal
Classical music is a worthy foe.
I hope one day Ron can get the rights to these scenes and release a full video album together in high quality. It's a shame the other two videos were removed from UA-cam, I assume for that reason. This is literally one of my favorite metal projects/anything that has ever existed.
Ahh so thats why i cant fuckin find the ingesting blattaria video. I was searching so hard too 😢 that video was even better than this one.
Ron, you're a genius. please continue to make brilliant music, we love it!. i hope someday we could see Blotted Science live!
Really should have been called Carboniferous Chasm.
oooh, someone has taken Geology.
paleontology hahaha
Dendrochronology* lol
You guys...
If you guys don't know, Ron had another band, Spastik Ink, which has a couple songs very much like this one. Look up "The cereal mouse" as well as "A wild hare"
Dodecaphonic and polyrithms (see 2:57 for 6/7...)
MY BRAIN IS ABOUT TO IMPLODE
Yep, Ron's sense of time and pulse is better than 99% of drummers out there. Frightening.
blotted science blows my mind once again. its pretty awesome how they wrote the whole ep to be soundtracks for videos
I cant stop watching this! Pure genius.
That gunshot sync at 2:15 was immaculate.
And 3:25, wow.
really, how can 11 people dislike this? This is pure genius
the best sync between a movie clip and a song I have ever seen awesome job!
Whoever edited this had a sense of humor timing the machete swings to the splash hits. I see you.
Maybe Blotted Science started to compose that tune while seeing that part from the movie ^^
Because it's true it's almost perfectly synchronized. When you see those big bugs being hit, there's a drum hit at the same moment !
This is phenominal. Movies need to be scored like this!
I 100% agree. Ron is a genius, he has invented his own music system and performs it to perfection. Most composers are mainly composers and not players, he is the epitome of both. I would honestly say one of the most brilliant composers AND players... EVER.
Prog Metal makes EVERYTHING better
This part was in King Kong? Dude, fuck King Kong! the rest of the movie should have just featured these fucking badass giant bugs.
They did the same with Bambi. Look up "a wild hare".
This makes the scene very intriguing!
Composed to the cinematic piece. Man i hate it when you get attacked by bugs. Very relatable. I was in a similar situation once and let me tell you, it was quite unpleasant.
Most criminally underrated band. I wish they'd do more of these movie based songs. 2 is not enough!
there are 3, also the woman in the bathtub and the one with the dude afraid of insects(not this one)

can't watch the video (giant bugs eating my face is possibly the most terrifying thing imaginable) but the music is freaking brilliant!! \m/
ShadowLeafAliyah It's fake bugs on a 2-D screen. C'mon.
And it's very old CGI, you can see all the imperfections that tells your brain that it isn't real. There's really nothing to be affraid. lol
Such things are to be expected with such fantastic talent in the band. Especially the guitarist.
Ron Jarzombek is a genius!!

this should have at least 7.5 billion views
THIS HAS TO BE THE BEST THING I'VE EVER WITNESSED
Shoenberg brought serialism, Ron adapted it into the 12 tone system. He talks about the differences in some of his interviews.
Just beautiful! The creepiest scene from that movie made even creepier. I'm loving this band!
This is the best video of all time
Amazing turn of sync
You could not have chosen a better video to suit this video
Awesome synchronization, good edit timing, nice work
This is awesome, I watched this movie a few times, I must have been baked because this part eludes me. This is a great score, it fits very well.
Actually the whole EP is written as a soundtrack to different scenes of horror movies with insects...the machinegun timing would be an awesome cohincidence....
Perfect music video for this. Love it.
from 3:16 and on, the maching gun fires and drums is insane.

The sound of these guys reminds me of Upsilon Acrux. Very good stuff.
Good shit. Scored with impeccable timing.
1:48 - 1:58 Just trying to imagine bringing that riff to the band and their reactions. To use a sixties term: Far out.
@Siah2000 That's because the song was written like that on purpose to synch with the scene, specifically written for it!
Meshuggah-Vishnu Orchestra!! love it!!
Brutal, music suits the scene. Blotted Science!
pretty great. reminds me of Acid Rain by Liquid Tension Experiment, one of John Petrucci's side projects.

Freakin amazing! Ron Jarzombek has done it again.
This is like watching the Dark Side of Oz x10! Awesome video!
Those perfectly synced cymbals with his slashes @1:25
That little pause at 0:37 when the giant mosquito switches to the other guy is GENIUS.
Also this video scared the shit out of me.
Wow, the audio and video are a perfect match. Love it.
@kmmmaye Music scored to the movie 'King Kong'. They wrote the music around this scene of the movie.

Ron Jarzombek deserves a MacArthur Genius Award. Full stop.
Haha YEAH! Well done, Ron, Alex, and Hannes! Incredible stuff here! Can't wait for the next video!

That suprisingly synched well in some parts lol
that was awesome, cant wait to see the next one
Such good energy. Like when Jack starts to fight back. Ahhhhh.
