Hi Jon. I was having a pretty crappy day, water from shower just started leaking to the floor then wife noticed from downstairs it was leaking. I was already having a bad week, been in a car accident last Friday and now this leak which ruined the ceiling and the paint came off. I was cursing every thing around me even the Lord above saying I wish he would listen and cut me a break, after cursing him...I cooled off a bit and began to clean up the mess and have some orange peel texture and looking how to redo and stumbled upon your video. I can’t tell you, the message at the end really struck it home for me I just broke down and cried like a baby. Thank you for all you do and for restoring my faith.
This just saved my life. Repairing a wall with a small hole and got it covered in the spackle. Gotta work on texturing next this was very educational for me who hasn't repaired a wall ever before. Thanks!
Thanks for the review Jon. Using your advice and reading the instructions on the can, I just spray textured 48 square feet of new wallboard in my laundry room. I used the 25oz pro grade knockdown product and I used the Homax plastic knockdown knife with the foam padding. My existing walls are what I'd call medium knockdown as I've seen heavier. I tested on a piece of cardboard and found heaviest testure setting and lowest pressure was the best setting for me. All went pretty well. A couple things to note though. Even though I applied to about the same number of sqft as they stated the can was good for at the heavy setting, I wish I had about 25% more product to spray. Also, and this is the most important thing, as the propellant in the can diminished, the spray was less forceful. Towards the last third of the can, it was barely squirting, you had to almost fling it on the wall. So if you have any harder to reach areas, DO THEM FIRST! Overall, I'm happy with my results.
Thank you for this video. It's the kind of advice that you would hear from a friend that's been there. The part about masking is definitely something I'll do. I have to texture a bathroom, so this gives me the confidence knowing i wont have issues.
Watched your demo Jon before I repaired a small section of my ceiling that had developed a few small (but visible) cracks after a heavy rainfall. Worked perfectly ! Also, used Through The Roof roof sealant sealer over the asphalt flashing on the suspect roof area to make certain that doesn't happen again. Much thanks...
This is an excellent product and we are very pleased with the results. Just make sure you follow the instructions and vigorously shake the can before - and throughout the process.
Thanks Jon, I coudn't read the dang directions cause they were too small in print and messed up my first can! Also, it was real cold so make sure you warm up the can under some warm water is what I've been told.
You did a great job with the simple basics that gave me enough confidence (see it - try it) that I think it came out beautiful! Thanks again...loved your last printed statement! There might be those that could be offended by your statement; but, I appreciated it a lot!
Let it dry first then sand it to desired look. I've used this shit all the time. Spray it on some what heavy get nice complete coverage. COME BACK THE NEXT DAY AND SAND IT TO A PERFECT LOOK!!
What’s the smallest area this would be effective for? Have a couple of spots we repaired probably 6x18inches we’ll be using this for. Thanks and love the ending!
I have a few videos on the subject You can look them up or I'll just tell you now as soon as you apply the product whatever product you're using before the sheen is gone knock it down with the trowel if you wait too long you'll have to sand it down if you Don't wait long enough it'll just smear the mud and it'll become one again so just like Goldilocks it has to be just right not too hot and not too cold
Couldn't catch your last sentence. The problem I'm having is that the texture goes away a half hour after spraying. (The instructions say to wait a half hour after spraying.) I've sprayed twice now, and same thing has happened. Any advice? Thanks.
I shook it upside down followed directions, did the knockdown texture, waited, knocked it, painted it, it's primarily all gone and I did heavy. 2 dif cans. Disappointed :(
I have used about 30 cans of this stuff. it works better if you shake it for 1 minute then put the can in a pot of hot tap water for about 5 minutes. Then shake it again. start out on fine and go from there.
Hi Kelly If you are not doing anything wrong, it is a bad can, take it back and get a new one, but make sure you have already removed the "safety", just like a gun, if the safety is on, you can't fire.
I don't like those David, but since you already bought it, give it a shot and let us know what you think, try it wet and dry, see if it makes any difference .
Hi David , Steel is consistent, plastic can be too...sort-of, Foam , by its nature is pliable, so you have to "learn to like it", I don't think many professionals would ever use Foam Edges... Way too many inconsistencies.... use steel and wipe your edge clean.....a lot......Good Texture is Consistent Texture , nobody should know there was a patch made....ever....
You will be fine, follow the directions on the can (shake like crazy) and use the proper splatter, wait just until you see the the shine fading (moisture disappearing), and start knocking it down, let us know ;-)
Okay but the problem with what you are just now saying is that the results are instantaneous when you spray actual drywall mud, it actually does shrink a little bit This stuff only takes five minutes to shrink completely What you are seeing after you spray it is exactly the way it will be forever if it doesn't match the original texture perfectly , spray it again and continue to do it until it's perfect
Sean Carl I can make a faux bar with wine if you come to my house and do my touchup areas. This woman has quite a time doing a typical mans work when it comes to home repairs. Anything indoors I mess up, any work outdoors I can do equally as good. Ugh.
Thanks so much for this great video Jon. Very helpful. I purchase this product yesterday at Home Depot and they also sell a special knock down blade that is rubber-coated sold by homax. Jesus is Lord!
What I don't like about the product is that the can will easily tilt over and break at the nozzle. At the high cost of this stuff, that really ticks you off when it happens and your left with a full can that is not usable in the least. Had that happen twice with the large cans and one time in just removing the top, the nozzle broke off on a can. Just be extra careful in using this stuff, as the product can be quite expensive if you have it muck up on you.As much as I shook the can, I did have one can that continued to shoot a fluid stream onto the wall board instead of putting out any orange peel. To me, this product is often just hit and miss as to being good or not. Taking watered down mud and applying it to a small brush and then flicking the brush to distribute the mud can be as effective and often cheaper than this product.
I have never had that happen, but if you buy it from Home Depot, they will give you your money back and send it back to the manufacturer, if it happens to enough people, the manufacturer will address the issue.
I came here to see how to pull the safety tab off the sprayer. He films how to do this, and then moves the camera away at the exact moment he pulls it off. Get a camera stand and try again.

This is crap for a popcorn ceiling. It will never be coarse enough. I had to take back 2 cans before I got 1 that even worked-badly. After 2 cans@$17 bucks a can, I had to do it by hand. It may work for knockdown but it's shit for popcorn.
Hi Jody Of course there's no way to tell from here But you could have gotten a bad can It sounds like you did everything right And if you really did Just take it back and get a new can No muss, no fuss Anything could have happened to it in shipping Or even manufacturing I have applied them for years and never once had an issue But I just was blessed Apparently but if it does not work according to instructions Take it back Pick up a new one Follow the instructions There's no possible way a second one will be bad also
Yeah then you're definitely doing it wrong I'm not there and I can't tell you but it sounds like you're doing things right but that cannot be the truth because it's not working and they always work I would say it's literally impossible you would have two different cans from two different stores and both acting the same way Read the directions slower Watch my video again It should work out perfectly
@@Jonehughes Well for me It required a Warm wet Trowl And apply PRESSURE. My Question is Behind Knockdown is Pitting that can be reached. Will Primer an Paint Fill that Nicely? Hi Micheal, the spray is either set at "light" (too light)
or is malfunctioning
or needs to be shaken better

Mitch Cady hi much they make one specifically for ceilings
