Entertaining as always guys. I can smell the pine...Good stuff. Brings back fond memories of working in the woods, felling and bucking big white pines in NH
Hi guys. My name is Neil vanWaas in Rocky Mountain House Alberta. You guys were the inspiration for me to retire from my 30plus years of long haul trucking and getting into a sawmill business. I sure loved it HOWEVER at least up here there was too much competition for logs. The big mills bypassed their cutblocks which they had to pay stumpage fees per ton harvested to buy logs from private loggers which is who i buy from. So to make a long story short i had to sell out after only 4years in the business. I had plenty of customers through word of mouth but the log supply was not dependable. I watch all your videos even after the fact. Keep up the good work. Thx
@@markgalicic7788 yes thats where i used to get mine too. From private landowners and brush clearing companies. The big mills buy up all they can and there’s little left for small mill owners. Ive seen in my travels huge fields full of staged logs. I inquired and they were all sold to one mill. I dont have the room or the deep enough pockets to buy all that
It is always good to see you guys hard at work. I am glad that you had a helper today. You made short work of those 16" footers. I took down some dead trees today but I just use the tractor and bucket.
Mark, once you get used to using that laser thermometer. You'll ask yourself; how did we ever get by without it. I have one in each toolbox. There fantastic for working on old equipment that you aren't sure that pumps are working correctly or are cooling the way they should be. I do work on a lot of outboard marine boat motors. And there great for telling me if we have a cylinder that's not getting enough water, or something is blocked with a piece of debris in a cooling passage. With a little use, you can even tell when you need to add grease to you main bearing in that blade. Because you'll see the temp getting warmer and warmer if you play with it enough. Thet are very handy to have to help keep the maintenance under control.
Very good job nice amount of 2x4 for one log I really like to watch the videos I was around Canton hard wood in north carolina for years it was a big 6 inch band saw mill only hard wood it finally went out after all the paper mills went out you guys do a great job .keep up the good work.
Hi guys have a good show rember I'm from the upper Michigan Escanaba.mis working in the saw mills it was a good job wasn't the best pay but I like it .
hello guys, have watched and subscribed to your channel for the last year and I am absolutely fascinated by your videos, turning 65 on Friday the 15th and hoping for a few more years of your videos, writhing to you from Sweden Scandinavia
8 o’clock at night having supper thems some long slim boards , we had a storm last night so I’ve picked the apples up and the branches plus a bit of rubbish that was blown in , at least the rain washed the sand off that came from the Sahara desert, you guys have a nice day
I like 8 ft better then 16&20 footer we sawed three 24 foot one time. It was to big for the cardedg but we made it it jump a lot on the back end glad when that was done 👍💪
Know how you feel with your eye. I put a nail in my right eye in "79". Have had 17 surgeries to reattach the retina, and put in a new lens. If not for the on call ophthalmologist in the ER I would have a glass ball.
deeply embedded nails ? permanently mount a metal detector near the plane of the saw blade such that the fresh face is scanned. as it moves to the blade. possibly hinged above with a wheel so it can roll past the first rough cuts
5:22 Mark says, I gotta get a face on this everybody! Oh, it's got a face on it alright. This is the only log I've seen where it comes precut with a face. Just look at the end!
Thanks for the shout-OUT, when most times all I hear is 'GET OUT.' People say I come up with this stuff because of an old battle injury they know about, I still got a plate in my head because of it, porcelain, inoperable, angry girl friend. The other reason they claim is, excessive Man Glitter ingestion. Way back before the big environmental Man Glitter scare of 72', they called it Wood Flour back then, and all the subsequent safety precautions, like the Donkey Kong Safety Mario, pet safety rocks, safety mantle elves, then garden gnomes jumped on the glitter wagon, and eventually the safety hobbit craze that still lingers, some say haunt us, to this day. They did those classic old PSA commercials everyone remembers: Screaming Hot cast iron skillet, loose mesquite sawdust smattering wafting up it's flavor, then dropping in a raw egg to sizzle, fry, and get glitter-smoked with the announcer saying "This is your joke yoke brain on Man Glitter." Either seems plausible to me.
@@markgalicic7788 You help, I just go off something that is mentioned, mostly a turn of a phrase turns into a BS session. I noticed the saw marks are a bit more pronounced after the tooth change. You going to work up a edger glitter collection arrangement? I see the pile grow.
Remember, the temp readers with a laser dot read a larger area the farther away you are so if you want to check a small part or area you might have to be closer to it. The dot is just to help aim it not the actual area it measures.
Not sure why people can't ser the laser. I see it from time to time depending on light and log coloration. But, I don't know if you've said before....why green instead of red? I'm just curious. Thanks, great video.
Great video as always. BTW, my wife and I will be celebrating our 46th year married. My real name is Jeff Wilson and my wife is Pat. We got married Sept. 17th 1977. She was 16 and I was 19.
Thank you Mark. I was hoping you could give us a shout out so I can show it to my wife. We both love your videos. Also my son and his wife and daughters watch your videos and I think my granddaughters would enjoy a shout out. Thank you if you can.@@markgalicic7788
You often clean up the edge of your cant after turning it to a different edge. I see all circle sawyers doing the same but I never see a band sawyer do that. Why don’t they need to do that?
they should but you cant shave with a band saw , logs do move while sawing them from stress in the log so I like to clean the face to check if it's true.
because I would have to make a new sawdust box under the saw , more sawbits to maintain , more horse power to pull it , modify the husk to hold the saw guide , move the splitter back , make the off bearer belt wider to take 24" wide boards and relocate the pantograph arm because it's in the way too.
Entertaining as always guys. I can smell the pine...Good stuff. Brings back fond memories of working in the woods, felling and bucking big white pines in NH

👍👌👏
thanks.
Maybe a spotlight directly on the dial to get the shadow off. And clean the window. You need to be able to see as best you can.
good idea.

Looks like those knees have opened a degree or two passed 90. Noticed on that 4 stack that each sat a bit back from the one under it.
bark under the cant.
@@markgalicic7788 At the 24:30 mark, there's no bark under that stack.

With all your big logs lately, I am surprised that Chewie doesn't go on strike lol
this log is small wait for the Friday Eve video.
Mister Mark can you adjust each dog one one or do they work together love your videos be safe and have a great day Sam
thanks Steve , they all work together.
This sure beats quarter sawing.
yes for sure.
BTW Mark, Did you guys ever get your Sea Container dry kiln up and running???
Thanks for the video Mark & crew.
How many gallons of fuel do you burn on average per hour?
about three.
👍
Great vid! How long does it take too dry?
thanks Cory , these are going to scrape slag at a steel mill so maybe five minutes.

for sure.

green shows up better with sun light.
What do they use them for?
I don't suppose you can digitalize the settings for the saw sets?
yes I can change out the setworks to a computerized one.
Mark, are you cutting 2” x 4” actual or 1 1/2” x 3 1/2 demential? Thanks
a full 2x4.
I swear that log had fried eggs stuck to it. LOL. Or so it appeared. :-D
What is the biggest diameter log that you can cut on your mill?
we did saw a 36" pine.
The people who have never seen the Lazer must be colorblind. I don't see it every time with my bad eyes, but I can see it most of the time
not sure why people can't see it.
That’s a big’un
you will like the Friday Eve video a 32" log.
How's the eye doing?
getting better.
Sammy riding the carriage today keeping an eye on everyone.
yes he is.
Hello, Team.
Hello Everton.
Need to get Sammy a face mask if hes going to ride on there
that would be funny.
I can smell it from here
