Okay, I'm gonna have to stop and say thank you for giving I Still Know What You Did Last Summer some love. Yes, it's cheesy. No, it doesn't make logical sense. Yes, it's bad... But it's also so so so good. I have to give it credit. The 90s were not a particularly brutal time for horror slashers. The late 90s teen horror craze, while spear-headed by Scream, which IS a very gory and graphic film, were not particularly gory. I Still Know, however, was actually fairly graphic and violent, which I thought was a very cool and surprising choice. Also, it has a great late 90s soundtrack that started my childhood obsession with Bijou Phillips.

I just saw "I Know What You Did Last Summer" for the first time last year, after reading the novel which it's based on. It's a strange situation where both the novel and film are actually quite good, but for different reasons. I even went ahead and watched "I Still Know...," which was not GREAT, but was a very fun watch. I haven't watched "I"ll Always Know..." yet, amidst suggestion from other horror fans.
Blair Witch is in the conversation for best horror movie of all time. Other than being so well done, it captured a moment that can never be repeated: people did not know if it was real or not. Incredible timing for that campaign, which played it as if it was real. In 1999 the internet definitely did not have all the answers, it had very few in fact. We depended on magazines and TV. Imagine that. Even I questioned its authenticity initially. But I think my second favorite horror movie from that decade came from the same year, Japanese horror film Audition. I think the horror/metaphors in the movie suggest her childhood trauma, what's happening in her mind as the relationship plays out. The final scene is her coup de grace and is definitely real, no metaphors. Loved it.
Lol! How is Blair witch underrated? It was the most successful independent movie ever. Grossing 250 mill with only a 60 grand budget. It's whole marketing strategy had everyone guessing, if it was real or not. It help influenced sound footage films like Cloverfield, Rec and paranormal activity.
will Thomas underrated wasn’t the best word. I was talking about how audiences generally disliked it. For a while it seemed like people thought of this as the movie equivalent of nickelback jokes.

I was in my teens in that decade. Interview With The Vampire is very meaningful to me because it was the first ever horror movie I watched in a movie theater!!! I turned 18 earlier that year and I loved it
one of my favs from the 90s is Disturbing Behaviour (1998) its technically a horror/sci fi but i just dont hear people talk about it enough. it has a great cast and everything about it is so deliciously 90s!

Such a great list, Emma. There are some gems in there that I have never heard of - and I'm sure happy to see some love for I still know what you did last summer 😃👍 My top 10 90s Horror are: Candyman, Scream, I know what you did last summer, Urban legends, The craft, Halloween 6, Halloween H20, Wishmaster, Bride of Chucky, The Faculty. My guilty pleasure movie would be the first Leprechaun film 😁

When she imitated “What are you waiting for?!” for ‘I know what you did last summer’ - did anyone else’s mind instantly jump to the first ‘scary movie’ film with Anna Faris as Cindy? 😂
The craft is literally a mood. My friends and me watch it every year in Halloween. The list was really spot on with my kind of taste in movies, so I added a few to watchlist lol Emma! Stop making my watchlist bigger than it already is haha And I say that you go for the 80's list. These are really entertaining to watch.
New to the channel (love horror). Here's my list 1990- Misery 1991- Silence of the Lambs 1992- Candyman 1993- The Nightmare Before Christmas 1994- Wes Cravens New Nightmare 1995: Seven 1996: Scream 1997: Scream 2 1998: Bride of Chucky 1999: Blair Witch Project

Great list of 90's films, Emma. I certainly agree with most of the choices (still a couple there I have not seen). If you do get to an 80's horror list, I would love to hear it. All my high school and college years rolled into that decade.😎 A couple of additions I would suggest would be Anaconda (1997), Scream 2 (1997), Vampires (1998) and my favorite underrated gem (or guilty pleasure) Lake Placid (1999).
Yess! I would love to see an 80's list! I also would love to hear your thoughts on Exorcist 3, it is a great, very well done movie. It is well worth the watch❤ everyone stay well through the pandemic.
Thank you for mentioning 2 of Dario Argento's most underrated movies! Everyone dismisses everything he's done after the 80s, but his 90s stuff is still very good. After the 00s the complete downfall.
Two of my favorite horror films ever came out in the 90's. Nightbreed and Event Horizon. Even though they didn't make the list, they're definitely worth a watch.
Nightbreed is a cult classic I think now, I see it as that anyways. Loved it then and now. Event Horizon was AWESOME and a classic in my family watching it over and over.
I was stunned the Exorcist III wasn't in there until you mentioned it at the end. Not only is it one of the greatest horror movies of the 90s it's one of the greatest horror movies - period. The most underrated if all horror films. Incredible dialogue, blood chilling atmosphere and one of the greatest scares seen in any movie - if you don't know about it.
I saw Exorcist 3 for the first time last year and it was GREAT! The movie really stands alone, has great acting, great cinematography, mood. Its a classic.
Can't remember how many times I've seen The Faculty! Even growing up in that era, 90s (American) horror didn't keep me up at night as the 80s. Definitely looking forward to that video!
I consider the 90s as a fallow decade for horror. Although I think there were definitely fewer horror movies overall, there are some real gems. The Ring, Candyman, Army Of Darkness, In The Mouth Of Madness, Interview With A Vampire, Man Bites Dog, Misery, The Ninth Gate.... are some of my faves.
I liked your 90's list Emma. Great job. I loved Scream, The Faculty, I know what you did last summer, The Craft, and if you can believe it I do love I still know what you did last summer has well, and loved idle hands Devon Sawa is one of my favorite actors. And with everything that's going on right now you and Sarah's video's are the only things keeping me sane right now.
My 90s List 90- Childs Play 2 HM: Predator 2 91- The Silence of the Lambs HM: Childs Play 3 92- Dracula HM: Pet Sematary 2 93- The Good Son HM Nightmare Before Christmas 94- Interview With the Vampire HM Mary Shellys Frankenstein 95-Halloween Curse of Michael Myers HM: Lord of Illusions 96-From Dusk Till Dawn HM: The Craft 97- I Know What You Did Last Summer HM: Wishmaster 98-Halloween H20 HM: John Carpenters Vampires 99-The Blair Withch Project HM: End of Days
Trauma was my very first Argento :) 1990 NightBreed 1991 The Sect, Silence of the Lambs & The Story of Ricky 1992 Braindead 1993 The Untold Story & Cronos 1994 In the Mouth of Madness & Wes Craven's New Nightmare 1995 The Day of the Beast 1996 From Dusk Till Dawn & Ebola Syndrome 1997 Event Horizon & Cube 1998 The Faculty 1999 Ravenous & Audition
The People Under the Stairs has a great Twin Peaks angle to it, helps to have the two main antagonists going between both. Silence of the Lambs is the best movie made period. :) I love the 90s Dracula as well. I rewatch these a lot.
I love this list. I have not seen Frankenhooker. Although I did read about it in the first issue of Fangoria that I ever bought off of the newsstand. 60's, 70's, 80's : I would LOVE to see that. Not sure if I wanna include 50's. It seems as if Hammer Studios ruled that decade, if I am not mistaken. The Exorcist III - ohhh, yes please. I'd love to see you do a video on the entire Exorcist franchise as a whole.
AHHHHH!!! I Still Know is such a fun ass movie!!!!!! I honestly have seen it wayyyyy more than the original. Brandy falls through at least 7 plate glass windows... and Jack Black wut... I’m SO HAPPY you mentioned it!!
I am with you about I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Blair Witch Project, Stir of Echos and Idle Hands. Those definitely top my 90s horror list along with Scream. And yes, we need an 80s horror list pretty please!!! Now excuse me while I go binge watch all these movies.
I'm just discovering this channel and man what a perfect series of videos to binge during these "social distancing" times. Your passion for the genre is palpable and a blast to listen to. Subbed, keep up the great work!
I'm on a horror binge right now, and I'm running out of movies to watch. I don't want to waste time on bad movies, so if you could suggest me some I would appreciate it.
I am so glad you said 'The Faculty' for 1998!❤ One of my favorite horrors of all time!! :) People don't talk about it enough 😣 Also Josh Hartnett tho😍 Idle Hands is amazing also!!😄 Because of these choices.. I am now subscribed 😄
I need to watch 6 films to complete this list - all from the hidden gems. Looking forward to the 80's list and that review of Exorcist 3 (There are some incredible scenes in it.). Tks Em.
Great to see you mention both Stir Of Echoes & Bram Stokers Dracula, I loved both those movies growing up & always thought Stir Of Echoes never got the attention it deserved. Also don't know how anyone can talk about 90s horror without mentioning Seven, Sixth Sense & Jacob's Ladder.
when you said you cheated a little bit with the horror classification i was immediately like "it's silence of the lambs isn't it" and there it was!! it really is such a masterpiece. like you said, it's the best in any genre you try to put it!! one of the best movies of all time!!!! love your content as always
Psycho is rightfully revered as a horror classic, ergo Silence of the Lambs must be horror. I saw it in the theater and it's the only film I've ever seen that - no exaggeration - made me feel scared about having to cross the city to get back home at night on leaving the theater. I shouldn't say anything about Exorcist III since you don't even like to watch trailers, but I gotta say that if there's one single element that drives it (there're well more than one!) it's George C. Scott. The guy had a rep as an actor who was impossible to get along with, but onscreen he always brings a sense of dignified, damaged humanity and soul that's sometimes heart-achingly raw. He's the very heart of any film he headlines. You've seen The Changeling, I'm sure, so you know what I mean.
Not to mention not only does "I Know What You Did Last Summer" star Johnny Galecki of both "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" and "The Big Bang Theory" fame, it was expertly adapted from the novel of the same name by Lois Duncan. I agree! "The Blair Witch Project" was REALLY good! Seeing the trailers when I was 7 or 8, it had a hyper-realistic look to the "found footage" subgenre! I was like "Bloody hell! This is AWESOME!" (And yes, I did re-watch the original "Friday the 13th" for yesterday! Still good!)
The Exorcist III is the best of the 90s as far as creepy/scary for me, I vote yet if you haven’t already. I haven’t searched for it yet. Especially the fact Jeffery Dahmer would watch it before and during his kills up here by Milwaukee in the 90s.
That was a fun ride 😀 Fantastic video Emma. I thought you was for reals with Carnosaur 🤦♂️ you got me a goodin, I'll be ready next time. Life is better with a hat by the way, its a keeper for sure!
So here for the "I Still Know..." love. It embraces its camp factor, and it's just pure fun. Having Brandy carry the whole second half of the film with her chase scenes and crashing through every single glass panel in the hotel? Queen behaviour.

Thanks again Emma. I just wrote a serious screed about how Silence of the Lambs is indeed horror and how I just don't get folks who are always saying "That's not horror." about all sorts of movies that don't pass some weird genre purity test. Anyway I wrote it. The comment went in and then disappeared. (It might be in your spam.) So I'm just writing a little more. (It was a great missive, but now I don't have the heart to do it over again.) Anyway good 90's Teen films! And do the 80's. And thanks for your personal and quirky choices!

Hey Emma! It’s Jay! I’m glad to be back and loved this!! I agree with everything and got some new ones to add to my list. Late 90’s is my favorite, I dunno how you chose. Hope you’re doing well! When I was in high school, a couple of my teachers literally protested the Faculty movie...
80s List! I loved your picks! I was born in 87 I love the 90s horror vibe! Scream is my favorite movie franchise ever and i love the i know what you did last summers too! Both of them stir of echos is amazing underrated for sure!
spookyastronauts, unless you have done so already, will you do a 70s film review? I think this decade outdoes even the 80s for the genre (Alien, Carrie, Deliverance, The Exorcist, The Omen etc). I just discovered your channel today and it is a sheer and insightful delight.
One of the first horror movies I think about when I hear 1990 is Frankenhooker as I love that one. Then you put both I know what you did last summer movies and the list got even better. But what really made it great is how you ended on Idle hands. Awesome list!
I love the 80's, 70's and 90's. My most favorites are Tremors and the next 2 sequels, and Scream and Scream 2 which you didn't mention. I also love Dead Alive, The People Under The Stairs, Candyman, Child's Play 3, I Know and Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, Cherry Falls and Popcorn. Have you seen the last 2 that I listed? I love Dario Argento but I still haven't watched Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome.
Really enjoyed this one Emma. I think the 90s is the best decade for all movies as whole to be honest just above the 80s. Some great films in there and some good picks by yourself 👍
Good list. I'd definitely add The Exorcist III, as I think its one of the best horror films of all time, and IMO, better than the original. I'd also add a japanese movie, the hypnotist, its pretty original and feels different. Mimic, candyman are other possibles entries, but Id say the best thing the 90s produced in terms of horror, wasnt a movie but a Tv series. *Lars von Trier The kingdom*
Yes please continue to do the 80s! I love your list and your taste as well. I also wonder if you have watched Dressed to Kill (1980). This one is one of my favorite horror movies in the 80s.

I watched it a few weeks ago. I always liked it. Matter of fact Kevin Bacon is one of my favorite actors.
Scream, The Craft, Ginger Snaps, Jennifer’s Body. Now thats a fantastic movie marathon.
hell yeah
Teeth should go on this list
billybobtexas Would you say The Craft is a 'horror movie'?? (Just asking because I love that movie!)
Jennifer’s Body was a 2000’s movie
Dman W i know. That wasn’t my point. More that they kinda suit each-other for a movie marathon.

1999 Hidden Gem - Idle Hands
When she imitated “What are you waiting for?!” for ‘I know what you did last summer’ - did anyone else’s mind instantly jump to the first ‘scary movie’ film with Anna Faris as Cindy? 😂
The craft is literally a mood. My friends and me watch it every year in Halloween. The list was really spot on with my kind of taste in movies, so I added a few to watchlist lol Emma! Stop making my watchlist bigger than it already is haha
And I say that you go for the 80's list. These are really entertaining to watch.

Loving these best of decades. Very much excited to see 80s/70s/60s best of vids in the future.
Great list of 90's films, Emma. I certainly agree with most of the choices (still a couple there I have not seen). If you do get to an 80's horror list, I would love to hear it. All my high school and college years rolled into that decade.😎
A couple of additions I would suggest would be Anaconda (1997), Scream 2 (1997), Vampires (1998) and my favorite underrated gem (or guilty pleasure) Lake Placid (1999).
Oh man 1996 was my JAM. Also yessssssss for The Faculty, I was bloody obsessed with that film 😍
yasss
As someone who personally loves 90s horror, this is a near flawless list! Please do the 80s next!
Yay thank you!
Yess! I would love to see an 80's list! I also would love to hear your thoughts on Exorcist 3, it is a great, very well done movie. It is well worth the watch❤ everyone stay well through the pandemic.
What a great list - I graduated high school in 1999, so this really brought back a lot of great memories. Thank you, Emma!
Nightbreed for sure!
The Event Horizon messed me up. Soooo good.
Thanks for the feedback Raph!
I consider the 90s as a fallow decade for horror. Although I think there were definitely fewer horror movies overall, there are some real gems. The Ring, Candyman, Army Of Darkness, In The Mouth Of Madness, Interview With A Vampire, Man Bites Dog, Misery, The Ninth Gate.... are some of my faves.
would you ever do a video explaining your tattoos? i know it’s not horror related but i’d love to hear about them!!
I have for my patreons but I wouldn’t on here. I get some really horrible comments on my taste of films, don’t want to open it up to my body.
spookyastronauts aw okay! people are so mean. they look awesome
The People Under The Stairs was one of mine and my mom's favorite movies! It's so underrated.
Jacob's Ladder is easily my favourite horror movie from the nineties.
Great film.
Finally someone understand my love towards the "I know what you did last summer" movies

The silence of the lambs is definitely horror, it just has more "thriller" elements Because of the FBI subplot. It's too good to be a thriller
It's a thriller
I'm just discovering this channel and man what a perfect series of videos to binge during these "social distancing" times. Your passion for the genre is palpable and a blast to listen to. Subbed, keep up the great work!
I'm on a horror binge right now, and I'm running out of movies to watch. I don't want to waste time on bad movies, so if you could suggest me some I would appreciate it.
I am so glad you said 'The Faculty' for 1998!❤ One of my favorite horrors of all time!! :)
People don't talk about it enough 😣
Also Josh Hartnett tho😍
Idle Hands is amazing also!!😄
Because of these choices..
"In the Mouth of Madness" is terrific. One of my favorite Carpenter films.
when you said you cheated a little bit with the horror classification i was immediately like "it's silence of the lambs isn't it" and there it was!! it really is such a masterpiece. like you said, it's the best in any genre you try to put it!! one of the best movies of all time!!!! love your content as always
The exorcist 3 had the most successful jump scares in my personal experience, lol!
Love your videos!! from your 2000 video I have ordered Martyrs to watch this weekend. I'm intrigued by your review!
i screamed and subscribed the second you mentioned i know what you did last summer and i still know what you did last summer, we stan!
Richard Stanley's "Hardware" (1990)
Good call!
This is AWESOME!"
(And yes, I did re-watch the original "Friday the 13th" for yesterday! Still good!)
Yes, People Under the Stairs👏🏼 So underrated.
Life is better with a hat by the way, its a keeper for sure!
so happy to see Perfect Blue here. Great list! I love the love for I still know what you did last summer lol
Great list Emma, and definitely watch the exorcist 3.......that hospital corridor scene 😱
Just discovered you within the last week and I've been buzzing through so many of your videos! I'm elated about your love for both IKWYDLS! So great!
So here for the "I Still Know..." love. It embraces its camp factor, and it's just pure fun. Having Brandy carry the whole second half of the film with her chase scenes and crashing through every single glass panel in the hotel? Queen behaviour.

Audition!! 👏🏼
(It was a great missive, but now I don't have the heart to do it over again.)
Anyway good 90's Teen films!

Yes, please, do a 80's list. Also, The Exorcist III it's incredible. I would love to see your reaction!
80s List! I loved your picks! I was born in 87 I love the 90s horror vibe! Scream is my favorite movie franchise ever and i love the i know what you did last summers too! Both of them stir of echos is amazing underrated for sure!
Thanks for talking about 90s horror films Emma, that was a cool surprise, I also liked the 90s too.
spookyastronauts, unless you have done so already, will you do a 70s film review? I think this decade outdoes even the 80s for the genre (Alien, Carrie, Deliverance, The Exorcist, The Omen etc). I just discovered your channel today and it is a sheer and insightful delight.
One of the first horror movies I think about when I hear 1990 is Frankenhooker as I love that one.
Then you put both I know what you did last summer movies and the list got even better.
But what really made it great is how you ended on Idle hands.
Awesome list!
Great video, thanks! Totally agree with all of the selection. I would only add Wes Craven's New nightmare!
And yeah, 80's list would be great too!
I love stir of echoes!!! And no one talks about it!! Thank you!!
Emma,
Just recently discovered your channel, and, I must say, it’s fantastic! I’ve discovered so many great films because of you. Thank you!
The bicycle scene changed me for life!! So glad to have heard ITMOM mentioned
SO GOOD
Good call on The Kingdom. I'm not a huge fan of von Trier, got a love/hate thing going, but The Kingdom first series is ridiculously good.
Every movie on this list is so good
Especially the underrated gems
You have awesome taste \m/
Nice list! I miss Ravenous but your choices for 1999 were still solid!
And yes - please do a 80s list and an Exorcist III review :)
Yes please continue to do the 80s! I love your list and your taste as well. I also wonder if you have watched Dressed to Kill (1980). This one is one of my favorite horror movies in the 80s.
Wonderful video! Thanks. I added 4 movies to my watchlist. And yes!! Do the 80s, please...
