Here are some of my favorite horror movies in no particular order: ( these are just some of my favorites ): 1. Black Sunday 2. Night /Curse of the Demon 3. House on Haunted Hill( original) 4. Halloween 1978 5. Black Sabbath 6. The Shining 7. Dracula (1979) 8. House of Dark Shadows 9. The Blair Witch Project 10. The Fog 11. Hereditary 12. The Fall of the House of Usher (1960) 13. Frankenstein 14. The Vampire and the Ballerina 15. Horror of Dracula 16. Suspiria( original) 17. Night of the Living Dead(1968) 18. Burnt Offerings 19. House of the Witch 20. Invasion of the Body Snatchers(1956) 21. The Conjuring 22. Prince of Darkness 23. The Conjuring 2 24. The Omen 25. The Funhouse 26. House of Wax( the original) 27. Carnival of Souls 28. Sleepy Hollow( 1999) 29. The Autopsy of Jane Doe 30. Dracula ( 1931) 31. Daughters of Darkness
I Saw The Devil did not leave me for days, the ending especially. Also Suspiria has some incredibly beautiful shots/colors. Also enjoyed Phenomena. And by the time it winded down i predicted your number one. :D nice list!
Interesting selection. So many good horror movies to choose from, which is probably why the only film that comes into my top 25 that is in yours is The Exorcist. In my top 100 though are also your selections of The Thing, Rec, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Like you say, the horror genre is so bountiful. It's a genre that will always produce an abundance of varying Top 25 lists. I could have easily done a Top 50 but didn't want to waffle on too long.
Yes you should do, even a top 100, as would be enjoyable. Part of the variety of the lists is also due to how people classify the genre as for example some include thrillers and sci-fi in the horror genre.@@MuckMan_Movies
Alien, Jaws and The Thing - I don't know if cinema gets much better. Hitchcock's Psycho is my all time fav horror film. Frankenstein still competes after all these years - amazing accomplishment - timeless movie. Also, great audio - that's a nice sounding mic.
Great top 25. Under The Skin will get into more best of lists as time goes on. American Werewolf never gets old. I see you have the same edition of American Werewolf that I did a review of 👍🎬
Odd that you didn't include Audition 1999 Japanese. It is famous for having audiences running out of the theater 20 minutes before the end because it was creeping even hard core Horror fans out. If you like challenges. I challenge you to watch the whole film without looking away, or shutting it off or leaving the room at the 20 minute before end mark.
I remember watching Martyrs at a film festival here in Hamburg. The festival manager came into the cinema, looked at the audience and said "You are all very sick!" Usually, I do not like horror movies, but that one is amazing.
Yeah, its not a comfortable watch for sure, but it's very impactful. I've managed to watch it twice now but I know a lot of people said they could never watch it again. A brutal and unforgiving movie but extremely well made. Thanks for watching and commenting.
If you want to see a truly "impactful" horror movie (sort of), try watching IRREVERSIBLE (2002). You can probably handle it if you could handle MARTYRS,
You have a good mix of different stuff from different times, I love that. I might have different opinions about some of the films, but all of them are definitely good ones. I personally have a hard time deciding on one top movie for myself. The Thing is probably it for me too, it has been a constant favorite since I was a kid in the 80s and that movie along with some of Carpenter's other films are probably the biggest reason I'm a horror fan. Good list, a few I haven't seen and I will try to check out, because the ones I have seen on your list are all good. Thank you.
Onibaba, I Saw The Devil, The Tale Of Two Sisters, and Martyrs. I know of Marytrs and I Saw The Devil but hadn't watched them yet. I don't believe I've heard of the other two but all four are now on my list.
My top 25 are: 1. Scream (1996) 2. Halloween (1978) 3. Friday the 13th Part 4: (1984) 4. The Shining (1980) 5. The Thing (1982) 6. Psycho (1960) 7. Jaws (1975) 8. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) 9. American Psycho (2000) 10. The Silence of the Lambs (1991) 11. Aliens (1986) 12. Alien (1979) 13. Evil Dead II (1987 14. The Evil Dead (1981) 15. Seven (1995) 16. Frailty (2000) 17. The Exorcist (1973) 18. Predator (1987) 19. Jeepers Creepers (2001) 20. Black Christmas (1974) 21. The Wicker Man (1973) 22. Dawn Of The Dead (1978) 23. Night Of The Living Dead (1968) 24. Hellraiser (1987) 25. Day of the Dead (1985)
This is a great list. Nice range from within the genre. Some classics, some novel choices and i like it it when people highlight more modern films in lists like this. The last decade or so has been a purple patch for horror,in part for the films you mention.
Thx for the view in your List of your Most loved Horrorfilms🤝…Great List as i can tell, makes me wanna rewatch some of them again😁. Some of them i’ve Seen in Movie Theater …. I’m glad that i had the Chance to do that. …And also thx for the recommendation of „Onibaba“… i guess i have to See this one😎
Thank you for sharing your list of 25 favorite horror films! I appreciate your choices, even though 'Martin' by George A. Romero and 'The Brood' by David Cronenberg are personal favorites of mine. It's always interesting to see how varied the horror genre can be, and your list has certainly sparked some great discussion. While I do agree with most of your picks, I must admit that I see 'Pan's Labyrinth' as more of a fantasy film, 'Gremlins' as having a strong comedic element, and 'Blade II' as having superhero vibes. 'Halloween' from 1978, it's a classic for me , even though I understand it might be more of an honorary mention for you for me is top 25 . Thanks again for sharing your list
Thanks for your comments. Horror comes in many guises. I don't understand why people can't see that. Gremlins is a horror comedy with some very dark moments. Blade II is a vampire movie with some gory moments. Pan's Labyrinth is a fantasy horror with some horrific moments such as the General smashing the man's face in with a bottle or the stuff of nightmares pale man scene. Horror shouldn't have to be as straight laced and obvious as a lot of people on here seem to think.
Fun list and no complaints with your #1. Loved that edition of It Follows that you showed, very cool. I think my favorite Neil Marshall film is still Dog Soldiers but you’re probably right that The Descent is creepier. Good to see Onibaba there. Have you seen Kuroneko? They seem equally good to me
Hi Neil. Yeah, I have Kuroneko, which I really enjoy too. There is just something about Onibaba that elevates it for me. The It Follows edition has lots of stuff inside including a steelbook too. I just love that release, more so than the recent Second Sight release that everyone is gushing over. Thanks for watching, glad to see people are enjoying my videos.
Yes, I'm equally excited and apprehensive about a sequel. I just hope they don't ruin the whole mythology of the first film. Not sure I approve of Maika Munroe returning. I'd have preferred a different story away from her story arc.
Fantastic survey! By about number five, I guessed your number one. I like your short, clipped reviews -- how you get to the point. I need to check out a few of these I haven't seen. Missing for me is Robert Wise's The Haunting, which is one of my favorite and scariest of all time. A very enjoyable review.
Stellar list, sir! I love that John Carpenter's The Thing is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Back when it was released, of course, the critics despised it and even didn't have a big audience. It's great to see it becoming a favorite for many horror movie fan, and for people who don't even care for the horror genre. It's not just the story but the way the story is told that's wonderful. A chilling atmosphere, pun intended lol, and a master class of practical effects. 💖
Hello. This is my first time watching any of your videos. Really interesting and varied list. No complaints about your number 1 pic. I have the Japanese Movie Artwork on my wall. Have to see I was surprised to see I Saw The Devil so high up, obviously we have different opinions, I personally loved the first half but then felt it ran out of ideas a bit. Anyway, thanks for the vid. I have liked and subscribed and I look forward to more of your videos and wish you good luck with the channel.
Interesting list with good synopsizes. I'll check some of these out. Have you ever seen Carnival of Souls, (1962)?. It's not top 25 but it's a low budget cult classic. Very atmospheric.
Definitely agree with a lot of those, I still need to see the original Suspiria (only seen the modern version). I would definitely have to put The Borderlands, A Field In England (one scene is absolutely terrifying), Possum and Enys Men in the list.
@@MuckMan_Movies I've just realised that there's a fairly new film called Borderlands. Just to be clear, I'm referring to the horror film from 2013 with Gordon Kennedy in :)
amazing top 25! i enjoyed looking at the amazing bluray/dvd packaging too, since im a big horror movie fan who lived in third world country, so there are no such thing as amazing edition releases of the movies here. However, what i enjoyed the most from horror movies are the presentation of the scary scene and i love ghost scenes, i just love em, and to this day, my best horror movie is still the original Thai version of Shutter (2004) and none has been able to top it. That is all from me, Have a good day, sir.
french MARTYRS is the best horror movie of 21th Century. In my opinion Peter Jackson's Braindead, Barkers Hellraiser, Fulcis Zombie, Romeros Dead Trilogy, Raimis Dead Trilogy, From Dusk till Dawn, Scream 1 are better that half of your list. Tenebre is my favorite Argento. In my opinion is Gullermo Del Toro is overhyped. For me his movies are OK, nothing special. Not many people see the austrian movie ANGST 1983 with Erwin Leder, in my opinion it is the best psycho thriller with great camera work. And POSSESSION 1981 is THE art house horror movie ever time. Better that the most output from A24 together.
I think some of my choices would be different but i cant knock a single film on your list. I would have to make room for hellraiser and night of the living dead but good to see so many of my favorites in your list. The thing is a worthy winner
Del Toro’s “Cronos” was pretty good too. Wound’t say it scared me but it was a great watch. If you haven’t seen it and you like Del Toro check it out. I think you’d enjoy. Another great list - thank you!
i suggest 'empire of passion' by nagisa oshima, kiyoshi kurosawa's 'cure' (and 'creepy'), as well as na hong-jin's 'the wailing' and 'the chaser'. so many broadly fit into horror, there's a very good chance you've seen some / all of these.
Cure is a great one, yes. Creepy was decent but not as good. The Wailing and Chaser are excellent too. Great call outs. Its so hard to compile a Top 25 with so many other deserving films. Thanks for watching.
@@MuckMan_Movies japan always turns up a great deal. still surprised nastier nikkatsu RP don't get a shout at all; 'zoom in : sex apartments' is superb. still really like 'assault! jack the ripper'. people can't see past framing as soft core, see they're mixing genres to avoid repetition.
Very solid list. Loved "I Saw the Devil" one of my favorite all times. Might check out the French horror movie "High Tension" and German "Goodnight Mommy" both outstanding...
Ooh, you missed Halloween, Ringu (1998) and Psycho, MuckMan. Three all-time chillers, right there. Good list though. Seen all of them. And they're all good. If you haven't... check out Les Diaboliques as well. The last 10 minutes are killer!
My Top 50 Horror Movies 1. The Exorcist 2. Alien 3. Halloween 4. The Shinning 5. Jaws 6. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 7. Rosemary’s Baby 8. Dawn of the Dead (1978) 9. The Thing 10. Psycho 11. Dracula (1931) 22. Repulsion 23. The Witch 24. The Exorcist 3 25. Poltergeist 26. Carrie 27. Evil Dead 2 28. Re-Animator 29. Prince of Darkness 30. Child’s Play 31. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter 32. It Follows 33. Deep Red 34. The Lighthouse 35. The Lost Boys 36. The Brood 37. Get Out 38. The Conjuring 39. Babadook 40. X 41. Insidious 42. The Last House on the Left (1972) 43. The Wicker Man 44. Martin 45. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) 46. Scream 2 47. The Mummy (1932) 48. Cabin in the Woods 49. Green Room 50. Sinister
Nice list . Horror is so subjective that nobody would have identical lists . But for me , no movie scared me more than poltergeist , likely because I was 10 when I first saw it . Still great list
To those shuddering at his inclusion of Gremlins. I have been watching horror films with my dad since I was 5 and the only movie that he almost made us walk out of was Gremlins. He was genuinely disturbed watching these monsters joyously tormenting this town with demonic glee as the audience roared with laughter. But thats what I love about Spielberg-produced horror, he often uses a family-friendly story template to trick audiences into feeling safe and fuzzy and then almost subliminally lays on the scares. It’s only much later that one realizes just how the dark themes/ideas that were underneath the surface really were.
Gremlins has some genuinely dark moments. Yes it's predominantly a comedy but no-one can deny the scene where Billy's mum has to take on the newborn gremlins is horror. Also Kate's story of her father found dead up in the chimney is stuff of nightmares. Thanks for your reasoning comments and thanks for watching.
Great list! Really happy to see Onibaba on it. That’s such a haunting film. Here’s my list in no apparent order, these are for me all wildly rewatchable and wonderful: Rosemary’s Baby The Tenant Repulsion Kwaidan Toby Dammit Carrie The Shining An American Werewolf in London The Old Dark House Under the Skin Cries and Whispers Mandy The Dead Zone Don’t Look Now The Wicker Man (original version) The Devils Lost Highway Mulholland Drive Black Sabbath The Exorcist 3 The Omen Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (70s version) Suspiria The Hainting (Wise) Alien and The Thing are awesome but don’t offer anything but terror and tension. I actually really love Vampire’s Kiss as well, but don’t feel like it’s a very well-made film. The script and Cage’s performance are amazing though!
The Haunting was very close to getting into my Top 25. It scared the hell out of me when I first watched it. Nice solid list you have there. Thanks for watching 👍
Again a great list ! I have so many stories to go with many of these films, you are like a male version of me ! Some other films that scared me when j was growing up and presently are The Changling, 1980 film with George C Scott and 'Sinister' 1,2 and 3, really creepy 😱 loving the lists 👍
Yeah, Sinister was especially spine tingling but I thought it got a bit silly towards the end. I've not seen the sequels. The Changeling is a good one but I've only seen it once. Needs a rewatch! Thanks for the nice comments, much appreciated.
Hard to argue with this list. Some absolute classics here. Nice to see some of the more obscure Asian films get a mention. The only film on this list I haven't seen is Onibaba.
My Top 10 Horror Films : 10. Fright Night (1985) 5. An American Werewolf in London (1981) 9. Tenebrae (1982) 4. Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979) 8. Theatre of Blood (1973) 3. Day of the Dead (1985) 7. Black Sunday (1960) 2. The Thing (1982) 6. Frankenstein (1931) 1. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Good list. However, why you didn't put Martyr's at #1 is beyond me. Its head and shoulders above every other horror movie. And you left out The Ring, which I think is much superior to the Japanese original. Glad you put I Saw the Devil in there; what a wicked movie. BTW, have you ever seen Beyond the Black Rainbow? That's a pretty warped creepy movie.
I didn't put Martyrs at No.1 because this is my list and not yours. We all have different tastes and personal favourites. I have seen Black Rainbow and enjoyed it but not as good as Mandy. Thanks for watching 👍
Interesting list. I assume you've seen Bela Lagosi Dracula. Did you know they filmed a Spanish language version simultaneously, Spanish Crew and Actors. They filmed the English language in the day time, then the Spanish crew came in watched the dailies and filmed the Spanish one at night, trying to improve it versus the English language version Recommend checking that one out.
Yes, I've watched Dracula many times. I feel like the 2nd act suffers a little compared to the incredibly atmospheric 1st act. Great film but I prefer Frankenstein from that era. A lot of people prefer Bride of Frankenstein but I feel like there's too much of a comedic element in it, so I prefer the orginal.
Great list. I especially like that you added [REC] and The Descent who are in my top 10 list of favorite horror flicks. The Fly, The Thing, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, all excellent choices. I would add, The Beyond by Lucio Fulci. It has everything: Lovecraftian mythos, possession, haunted house, zombies, just all around great. Speaking of Lovecraft, a movie clearly inspired by the lore is the Canadian horror film from 2016 The Void.
Thank you. I personally wasn't a fan of Fulci's The Beyond because they just kept shooting the zombies in the body instead of the head! It really annoyed me. The Void is great fun but doesn't make a huge amount of sense, but I do enjoy that one. Great practical effects. Thanks for watching.
There are some fine choices, but, The Babadook, The Blair Witch Project and The Wicker Man are shocking omissions. And, that’s an understatement as I’m trying to be nice. 😊
I absolutely hated Blair Witch Project. I found it incredibly boring. The Wicker Man and Babadook are great and do deserve to be high up on anyone's list. It's hard to leave out so many but in the end there's only 25 places.
The part when ‘The Master’ appears in the kitchen terrified me along with the famous boy tapping on the window. Many sleepless nights as a kid after watching this 😂🎬👍
Great choices, especially The Thing. I didn't expect Jaws to be on this list, but you're right. Thanks to this film, I have not gone to the beach since the mid-70s.
One of the scariest films I've ever seen was made for American television: 1970's "Crowhaven Farm" starring Hope Lange. Witchcraft thriller. Never heard of it? Understandable. No one wants to talk about movies that are relatively unpopular.
@@MuckMan_Movies No Blu-ray...and apparently only Region One. We have three or four different DVD covers for it in the US, and I imagine the quality varies with each one. But it's worth the search, I promise.
@MuckMan_Movies I noticed you have a couple of sci-fi films at the top of your list. I'm both a sci-fi/horror fan. What's your opinion of the film Forbidden Planet?
good list, great to see i saw the devil on there, watch it every couple of years and it still feels like a new film.the word masterpice is thrown about far too much these days but i find the final 30 minutes of martyrs heading towards being a masterpice and the strange thing is i dont know why.
Great list, but a bit light on classics pre-1970, I only counted 2 (Onibaba and Frankenstein). I would among the classics include Nightmare Alley (1947,), BeautyAnd the Beast (1947), Dead of Night (1945), Ngiht of the Hunter (1955), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), Eyes Without A Face (1960), Black Sunday (1960) and Massque of the Red Death (1964.)
Watching A Quiet Place in the theater was a unique experience. Seeing The Exorcist in the theater was also like no other experience. Some of these I’m not familiar with. Some favorites of mine are Don’t Let Me In, ReAnimator, Evil Dead and Return Of The Living Dead.
I think Night of the Demon, with Dana Andrews, and The Haunting, by Robert Wise were very well directed, and if I did 25 I could not miss out Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, or Christopher Lee, but I an older than you.
Actually, a minor correction and a great pub/bar bet to win you a pint. Ask someone who played as Frankenstein in the classic horror flick. Almost invariably they'll jump out with "Boris Karloff" which is wrong. Colin Clive played as Frankenstein. Karloff played "the Monster." Check the end credits in the movie itself.
My own personal top 10... 1. Dawn of the Dead (1978 one) 2. The Exorcist 3. Martyrs 4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 5. Train to Busan 6. Get Out 7. Audition 8. The Mist 9. The Autopsy of Jane Doe 10. Day of the Dead Honourable mentions to The Shining, Halloween, Last House on the Left (original), Inside, The Conjuring, Sinister, Session 9, Us, It Follows, and many many many more!
Isolation horror. When you can't call for help and you know no help is coming. It brings an extra layer of desperation to the movie. Absolutely loved it. Fabulous list.. I'll be sure to check out the ones I haven't seen. If you like hereditary you gotta check out the other one from Ari Aster "Midsomer"
Good list! Obviously we all have different favourites, personally overall i prefer slashers as my list shows. Like you though i got into horror as a kid, i was 5 or 6 in the mid 80s. Some of my rankings might be almost blasphemy to some fans, but just personal taste: 25 Psycho (1960) 24 Child's Play 2 (1990) 23 Puppet Master 3 (1992) 22 Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives (1986) 21 A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) 20 Scream 6 (2023) 19 Halloween (2018) 18 Psycho 3 (1986) 17 Urban Legend (1998) 16 Dracula: AD 1972 (1972) 15 Scream 4 (2011) 14 Bride of Chucky (1998) 13 Jaws (1975) 12 Final Destination 3 (2006) 11 Dracula has Risen from the Grave (1968) 10 Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) 9 Halloween 2 (1981) 8 A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) 7 The Excorcist 3 (1990) 6 Scream 5 (2022) 5 Final Destination 2 (2003) 4 Halloween Kills (2021) 3 Scream (1996) 2 Damien: Omen 2 (1978) 1 Halloween (1978)
Wow, some surprising left field choices there, but like you say everyone has their own particular favourites so they shouldn't be insulted for having a different list of favourites to your own.
Ari Aster is killing it at the moment. heredity is the most scared I've been in ages. Beau is afraid is well worth a watch too. Good to see a lot of Asian horror on your list. good video. thanks
I beg to differ on the original "Halloween" being called a great Slasher film. It's more of a Thriller than a Horror movie. It has a Hitchcock vibe to it.
I have no complaints about your choices. In fact, I have all of them on Blu-ray or DVD. But you make no mention of some of the finest horror films of all time...such as Night of the Demon (1957), Night of the Eagle (1962), City of the Dead (1960), The Haunting (1963), The Innocents (1961) and Dead of Night (1945). Your list is biased toward modern horror films. Why?
Probably because it's what I grew up with. Night Of The Demon, The Haunting and The Innocents actually feature in my Top 50. Which considering how many horror films have been made are good positions in the whole scheme of things.
Onibaba and Frankenstein, I would agree. But the vast majority of the films in your Top 25 are modern in the sense of being from the modern era, which in my opinion includes the 1970s or later, as opposed to the black-and-white world of the 1930s through the early 1960s.
@@BrianR2395 I don't understand you. There's no right or wrong answer. These are MY favourite films, not yours. Feel free to do your own video with pre 70s horror films if you feel that strongly about it.
Well, if I do make my own video, it will certainly NOT be based on a list of films "I grew up with", which I think shortchanges the whole idea. Since reaching adulthood, I've had the opportunity to discover, appreciate, and enjoy some truly great horror films that existed long before I was born and which I never even heard of when I was growing up. Many of them are among my own Top 25 favorites, along with some later films I actually did "grow up with". But whether I grew up with them -- or not -- has nothing to do with whether they'd be included in my list.
Great list here’s mine: Black cauldron Beauty and the beast 1991 Legend of sleepy hollow 1949 Vampire hunter d Vampire hunter d bloodlust Van Helsing Shining Return of the living dead Sleepy Hollow Hellraiser 2 Hansel & gretel American werewolf Interview with the vampire Halloween 3 Creepshow Rocky Horror The fog Prince of darkness Army of darkness Evil dead 2 Dawn of the dead Day of the dead The haunted palace Wickerman Blood on satans claw Madhouse Monster club Masque of red death House of usher Phantasm Phantasm 3 Coraline Corpse bride Nightmare before Christmas Addams family The witches Nightbreed Lord of illusions The prophecy From beyond Dolls The stand Rose red Salems lot Underworld (2003) In the mouth of madness Fearless vampire killers Black Sunday Whisperer in darkness
Interesting list. Some great movies. If I drew up such a list I would have included Psycho, and the Birds, by Hitchcock, Rosemary's Baby, The Night of the Hunter, which was the only movie directed by Charles Laughton, and the Dead of Night, a British portmanteau horror movie from Nineteen Forty Five.
my top 25 in no order and not to toot my horn but Ive been watching movies since 75 : Dawn of hte Dead 1978, Angel heart, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Thing, Cannibal Holocaust, Kwaidan, Suspria 1977, Near Dark, Creepshow, The Hunger, In the Mouth of Madness, 1408, The SHining, The Mist, The Addiction, Carnival of Souls, Night of the living dead 1990, Dog Soldiers, Tales from teh Crypt Demon Knight, American Werewolf in London, Life Force, The Haunting 1963, Sleepy Hollow, Phantasm, Texas Chainsaw Massacre,
no Psycho? Dead Of Night? Jacob’s Ladder? Night Of The Living Dead? Horror Of Dracula? Sinister? Taking Lives? Zodiak? But hats off for rating John Carpenter’s The Thing so high! It is a masterpiece.
Psycho was very close. So hard to cram 25 films into the list. Should have done Top 50 😂 It's going to be impossible to please everyone when it comes to a list like this.
It's almost like you have your own opinion, which might differ from others! This is your channel, say what you think rather than trying to keep anyone else happy. Thanks for the interesting list.

@@Fredo_Viola Mandy misses the List as close as possible... the Cinematography and the Colour mix is awesome...but also it had B-Movie Vibes and a little Overacting Problem .. But I really Loved it for his individuality... A real brave Film... So when you ask me about the Joy-Factor...Oh yes...it would be Higher! But I will Rewatch it definitely 😉
lol, since when is over-acting a problem! Ha! Of course I’m kidding, but when the choices are as interesting as Cage makes I really think it’s art, especially if the film is as great as Mandy. And, btw, the first time I saw it I had the same feeling as you about the second half. I am not a huge fan of fight films, so superficially I was turned off. But I was drawn back to the film again, and the second time noticed the absolutely STUNNING and ultra-ambiguous ending. Then thinking about Shakespeare’s many revenge plots, I realized I needed to give that second half another watch. The third time I watched I realized what a masterpiece the film is. I cannot wait for his next feature. In my opinion, Cosmatos is our best young living director. Better than Astor, as he allows his film to end in ambiguity. We shall see if that pans out, but I have high hopes.
Yeah, I Saw The Devil is definitely a mind blowing thriller! Because the title is misleading. 2 horror movies that (I saw) recently that really impressed me were (Smile) and (Drag Me To Hell.)

I'm not a big fan of the horror genre but Night of The Demon left a lasting impression on me. One of the best films ever made.
@@robertcooper411 good film! I rewatched that one recently.
Great list quite a few of my favourites on it !!!
I Saw The Devil did not leave me for days, the ending especially. Also Suspiria has some incredibly beautiful shots/colors. Also enjoyed Phenomena. And by the time it winded down i predicted your number one. :D nice list!

Great list dude.
Always interesting to watch someone else’s list. Always different
I'm sure some people will be upset I didn't get Halloween into my Top 25 but the film's I chose had more of an impact on me. Thanks for watching.
@@MuckMan_Movies lol. When I saw that I was surprised as it’s my fav horror of all time. But respect and loved the fact you included Blade 2
Thank you.
Hi Jeff, thanks for the comments. Which ones haven't you seen?
Onibaba, I Saw The Devil, The Tale Of Two Sisters, and Martyrs. I know of Marytrs and I Saw The Devil but hadn't watched them yet. I don't believe I've heard of the other two but all four are now on my list.
Great list and you have some really great editions of the films!

This is spot on.
Thanks for sharing your favorites, love the brief but interesting commentary you give for each film. A few more movies added to my watchlist now.
Thanks for watching
This is a great list. Nice range from within the genre. Some classics, some novel choices and i like it it when people highlight more modern films in lists like this. The last decade or so has been a purple patch for horror,in part for the films you mention.
Thank you for your comments, glad you like my choices.
Onibaba is a beautiful & atmospheric horror. Hope you enjoy it.
Heard about the upcoming sequel to It Follows? I'm excited personally
@@bookfantastic Thank you for the nice comments. The Haunting is Indeed an excellent horror. It scared the bejezus out of me when I was younger.
Surprised that HELLRAISER wasn't in your top 25!?😮
P.S The Amityville Horror too!
Not a big fan of Hellraiser franchise tbh. Also found Amityville boring last time I watched it. Ended up selling my steelbook 😂 thanks for watching
Doesnt have hellraiser 1 or 2 but has gremlins lol
Stellar list, sir! I love that John Carpenter's The Thing is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Back when it was released, of course, the critics despised it and even didn't have a big audience. It's great to see it becoming a favorite for many horror movie fan, and for people who don't even care for the horror genre. It's not just the story but the way the story is told that's wonderful. A chilling atmosphere, pun intended lol, and a master class of practical effects. 💖
@@wnk1984 it's been a favourite of mine for decades. Agreed, its finally getting the adoration it deserves. It's a horror masterpiece in my eyes.
Your #1 pick is absolutely correct. Very good list overall.
The Thing. Top soundtrack, suspense, practical effects, acting and that ending that still has us all debating/discussing it. Amazing 👍🎬
One of my favourite soundtracks ! I picked up a nice reissue by death waltz recordings a couple of years ago !!!! It sounds so good on vinyl!!!!
Great list! The Thing, Body Snatchers, Under the Skin, The Shining, It Follows and American Werewolf are among my favourite films of all time!

Have you ever seen Carnival of Souls, (1962)?.
It's not top 25 but it's a low budget cult classic.

amazing top 25! i enjoyed looking at the amazing bluray/dvd packaging too, since im a big horror movie fan who lived in third world country, so there are no such thing as amazing edition releases of the movies here. However, what i enjoyed the most from horror movies are the presentation of the scary scene and i love ghost scenes, i just love em, and to this day, my best horror movie is still the original Thai version of Shutter (2004) and none has been able to top it. That is all from me, Have a good day, sir.
Thank you for your comments. Shutter is indeed a great horror! Especially that final scene which sent shivers down my spine.
french MARTYRS is the best horror movie of 21th Century.
In your opinion

I think some of my choices would be different but i cant knock a single film on your list. I would have to make room for hellraiser and night of the living dead but good to see so many of my favorites in your list. The thing is a worthy winner
Quality list, all amazing picks, putting The Thing at #1 nails it.

Del Toro’s “Cronos” was pretty good too. Wound’t say it scared me but it was a great watch. If you haven’t seen it and you like Del Toro check it out. I think you’d enjoy. Another great list - thank you!

Not sure I've seen 50 from the last decade. Could maybe do a top 50 of the 21st century.
Fantastic list. I would also add Del Torros, The Orphanage.
Cheers.
i suggest 'empire of passion' by nagisa oshima, kiyoshi kurosawa's 'cure' (and 'creepy'), as well as na hong-jin's 'the wailing' and 'the chaser'. so many broadly fit into horror, there's a very good chance you've seen some / all of these.
Cure is a great one, yes. Creepy was decent but not as good. The Wailing and Chaser are excellent too. Great call outs. Its so hard to compile a Top 25 with so many other deserving films. Thanks for watching.

@@supervillainz73 yeah, that mirror scene where he starts tearing his own face off terrified me when I was young
Finally....👏
Gremlins has some genuinely dark moments. Yes it's predominantly a comedy but no-one can deny the scene where Billy's mum has to take on the newborn gremlins is horror. Also Kate's story of her father found dead up in the chimney is stuff of nightmares. Thanks for your reasoning comments and thanks for watching.

Alien and The Thing are awesome but don’t offer anything but terror and tension.
I actually really love Vampire’s Kiss as well, but don’t feel like it’s a very well-made film. The script and Cage’s performance are amazing though!
And Cronenberg’s Crash… is that horror? If so, that one as well!
The Haunting was very close to getting into my Top 25. It scared the hell out of me when I first watched it. Nice solid list you have there. Thanks for watching 👍

Yeah, Sinister was especially spine tingling but I thought it got a bit silly towards the end. I've not seen the sequels. The Changeling is a good one but I've only seen it once. Needs a rewatch! Thanks for the nice comments, much appreciated.
Fantastic list! Great taste :)

Hard to argue with this list. Some absolute classics here. Nice to see some of the more obscure Asian films get a mention. The only film on this list I haven't seen is Onibaba.
Thanks. Some people don't seem to agree though. 🙄

9. Tenebrae (1982) 4. Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979)
8. Theatre of Blood (1973) 3. Day of the Dead (1985)
7. Black Sunday (1960) 2. The Thing (1982)
They filmed the English language in the day time, then the Spanish crew came in watched the dailies and filmed the Spanish one at night, trying to improve it versus the English language version
Recommend checking that one out.
WOW, that's a beautiful "The fly" steelbook. great collection
Blair witch is so bad makes plan 9 from outer space look like an oscar contender 😂
Salem’s Lot, the one with James Mason scared the bejaysus out of me as kid.
That's definitely a great one, when the brother is tapping at the window!!!!
The part when ‘The Master’ appears in the kitchen terrified me along with the famous boy tapping on the window. Many sleepless nights as a kid after watching this 😂🎬👍
I quite agree, although The Exorcist for my taste would have to be in first place.
Can't dispute that. It's a masterpiece
Great choices, especially The Thing. I didn't expect Jaws to be on this list, but you're right. Thanks to this film, I have not gone to the beach since the mid-70s.

Great film, but not Top 25 for me. Only seen it once to be fair so it definitely needs a rewatch
There's only 25 places. Many of the ones you mentioned I have still to see. Thanks for watching 👍
Oh I bet A Quiet Place was amazing in the cinema!
I share many with you. Great lisr
i think it makes a difference what age you were when you 1st saw the film
Onibaba saw that back a few years ago excellent choice.
@@docgallagher7040 correct.
These steelbooks are insanely beautiful. Especially the Under the Skin one
My own personal top 10...
1. Dawn of the Dead (1978 one)
2. The Exorcist
3. Martyrs
4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
5. Train to Busan
6. Get Out
7. Audition
8. The Mist
9. The Autopsy of Jane Doe
10. Day of the Dead
Honourable mentions to The Shining, Halloween, Last House on the Left (original), Inside, The Conjuring, Sinister, Session 9, Us, It Follows, and many many many more!
Autopsy of Jane Doe is so great! Doesn't get mentioned enough. Nice choices 👍
Yeah, Midsommar is great too, I just prefer Hereditary that little bit more.
midsommar! the lets build a few sheds in a field and pretend were in the wicker man film.
So happy to see the thing at no. One your not wrong
Good list! Obviously we all have different favourites, personally overall i prefer slashers as my list shows. Like you though i got into horror as a kid, i was 5 or 6 in the mid 80s. Some of my rankings might be almost blasphemy to some fans, but just personal taste:
25 Psycho (1960)
24 Child's Play 2 (1990)
23 Puppet Master 3 (1992)
22 Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives (1986)
21 A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
20 Scream 6 (2023)
19 Halloween (2018)
18 Psycho 3 (1986)
17 Urban Legend (1998)
16 Dracula: AD 1972 (1972)
15 Scream 4 (2011)
14 Bride of Chucky (1998)
13 Jaws (1975)
12 Final Destination 3 (2006)
11 Dracula has Risen from the Grave (1968)
10 Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
9 Halloween 2 (1981)
8 A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)
7 The Excorcist 3 (1990)
6 Scream 5 (2022)
5 Final Destination 2 (2003)
4 Halloween Kills (2021)
3 Scream (1996)
2 Damien: Omen 2 (1978)
1 Halloween (1978)
Btw i only saw It Follows for the first time about 3 months ago, but i loved it.
Good to see a lot of Asian horror on your list. good video. thanks
I really like Midsommar too. Still to see Beau but I will definitely get round to watching it at some point. Thanks for watching 👍
I beg to differ on the original "Halloween" being called a great Slasher film. It's more of a Thriller than a Horror movie. It has a Hitchcock vibe to it.
Mr. Frost with Jeff Goldblum and The Forgotten One with Terry O'Quinn are fantastic horror films!!!
I wouldn't exactly say Onibaba, The Exorcist, Jaws, Suspiria and Frankenstein are modern horror.

@@MuckMan_Movies it’s a Stephen king original script, heavily influenced by haunting of hill house. Great haunted house movie
I like all those films you mentioned. Great taste my friend. 👍 thanks for watching
Cheers@@MuckMan_Movies
Good list. Gremlins is a classic but doesn't deserve to be on a scary list for me like
It's my favourite horror movies, not necessarily the scariest.
my top 25 in no order and not to toot my horn but Ive been watching movies since 75 : Dawn of hte Dead 1978, Angel heart, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Thing, Cannibal Holocaust, Kwaidan, Suspria 1977, Near Dark, Creepshow, The Hunger, In the Mouth of Madness, 1408, The SHining, The Mist, The Addiction, Carnival of Souls, Night of the living dead 1990, Dog Soldiers, Tales from teh Crypt Demon Knight, American Werewolf in London, Life Force, The Haunting 1963, Sleepy Hollow, Phantasm, Texas Chainsaw Massacre,
Nice choices 👍
@@docneale7534 much appreciated for that comment. I don't get why some people actually seem offended by my choices. Thanks again.
fabulous listing and presentation... but... wot, no Blair Witch ? That one "got me" later in the evening when i went home from the theatre....
Oh, I really didn't like Blair Witch Project. I found it boring. Not seen it since it came out at the cinema.

The Golem, Bride of Frankenstein, The Witch, Mandy, Vampyr, Rec., A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, The White Reindeer, Curse of the Demon, Black Sunday, The Psychic, Carnival of Souls, Maniac, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde....😉
Yeah, its was tough to do a Top 25 as I had to leave out so many great films. Nice list 👍
Viy!!! Such a fun film!! Love that one as well! This is a great list indeed, although I’d put Mandy somewhere among the top 20!
Viy is real sovjet Pearl yes😅
lol, since when is over-acting a problem!
Drag Me To Hell is such an entertaining horror. I've not seen Smile yet, but it's on my watchlist.
