This review was definitely better than Android Authority's
jobe1105 just saw that yesterday, it was bad.
just becasue the axon is better lol
hey i just ordered the axon 7 on amazon....i wanna know if i can use it on metro pcs 4g lte?
Looks like you can't go wrong with either phone.
Axon 7: Better screen, better speakers/audio, and expandable storage
OP3: Faster(wins all speed tests/benchmarks), better OS, and better camera.
Battery life is debatable as some reviews give the nod to OP3 and others to the Axon 7.
Aesthetically, I have to go with the OP3, Axon 7 looks fine from the front, but the back is ugly. Definitely have to slap a case on that thing. Of course this is a preference thing.
agree but the displays look similar and you wont notise the difference exept you are using vr
From the pictures I've seen, the gray Axon 7 looks way better in the back. The colors of the lines are similar to the back color and it looks way cleaner.
I went with the oneplus 3 after thinking between these 2 for like a week! I picked up the oneplus 3 mainly because of the software
Yeah I feel like I'm going crazy. half of reviewers say the OnePlus Threes battery is better and the other half say the opposite!!!?!! I just don't know anymore
+James Carlyle
I've had the OP3 for a week and really like it. I was looking for an excuse to return it and get the Axon, but it looks like I'm keeping my OP3 😀.
OnePlus 3 doesn't have a higher voltage output, it's actually lower. What it *does* have is more amperage, and a slightly higher overall amperage. Please read up on volts, amps, and watts.
Axon 7: 12V * 1.5A = 18W (varies)
OnePlus 3: 5V * 4A = 20W
USB is 5 volts, not 12.
Except the Quick Charge tech from Qualcomm achieves fast charging by upping the Voltage.
Which technically violates the USB standards. The reason why Benson Leung, Google Engineer, went around and checked every USB Type C cable for how it held up to standard.
Also why USB group decided to start their own program called USB-IF.
Hey Android Police! Great comparison! Loving the content. I just want you and everybody else to know a something more about the OnePlus 3. I own one and I dropped the phone from a height of about 1 foot and the screen broke!. Now you must be wondering if I got a bad piece or something but I have seen a LOT of reports the OnePlus 3 screen shattering. I mean, go on to the OnePlus forums and you'll know what I mean. Similar Gorilla Glass 4 screen touting smartphones from other manufacturers are not shattering but the OnePlus' is. Why am I saying all this? Because people deserve to know about this when they buy a phone worth 400$. And we all know how the OnePlus repair service is terrible and it'll land you atleast 170$ to fix. Again, don't take my word for it, a quick Google will result in numerous such cases. I know you guys have a website as well, please spread this information, you have the platform , I'm just trying to help out the people. To all the people in the comments section, please like this comment cause this will only be recognized by your help. I have to go through the pain to use a phone less than a week old with a cracked screen. Heck, even the OnePlus 2 screen aren't shattering so easy. OnePlus claims to have Gorilla Glass 4 but something is fishy here. Hope this get recognition from the people.
It also scratches very easily
Dw we're careful enough and not dumb enough to drop our phones.
Don't drop your phone...
Listen, I understand that and I respect your opinion. I never implied that the OnePlus 3 was a bad device, and it isn't, by any means. All I wanted to say was that Gorilla Glass 4 shouldn't have cracked that easy, even though GG is not known for drops, Even with scratches, people are noticing that the screen scratches very easily compared to others. This has to be brought to light for the concern of perspective buyers who are in the market for a smartphone and are considering the OP 3 since this is the kind of stuff which affect are usage of the device dramatically.
P.S I did drop it but from about 1 to 1+1/2 feet which is near an average persons knee and most phones can easily survive such a tiny drop.
+Tao Ronaldo I'm not making this stuff up, go look it up online. I'm saying all this only after I experienced it.
I own the ZTE Axon 7 and want you to know that you gave a fair comparison. All of the Axon 7's weakness' you mentioned are true. The strengths are also true. My reasoning for the purchase after viewing the reviews are:
Better screen and sound
Expandable storage
Multi-radio to be able to join any US carrier
My worry was:
Less than a great camera.
I am happy with the purchase. I do wish I was rich and could afford the Note 7.
can u compare the audio between axon 7 and htc 10?
i own the one plus 3 and want you to know this was a bias review
+DankTech Bias?
lol I have the note 7 and love my axon 7 better.
Why do you wish to die?
You forgot the thermal throttling of the axon 7
Every phone does this.. Oneplus just let's the phone get hotter before it kicks in
the OnePlus throttles too, it just takes longer to do so. Not because it stays cooler, but because the phone is told to do so later. This will degrade hardware and long-term/short-term battery life much faster.
This is not a benefit, prolonging performance under heat. It'll burn your phone out faster.
You're right. But another point in terms of battery life prolongation is
the advantage of OnePlus's Dash charge which is better than the
Qualcomm QC 3.0 that is used by the Axon 7. Dash charge keeps the phone
cooler because the charger takes most of the heat as opposed to the
actual phone, i.e. the battery. So the Axon 7 will also see about
equivalent (if not more) battery life deterioration in the long run, due
to phones needing to be charged (experiencing the charging heat).
Especially if the person who owns the OnePlus 3 doesn't game often at
all, then they would hypothetically (and very much realistically) have
no worries of their phone getting warmer than usual, of course unless
said person is out on a 90+ degree day then any phone would get warmer
than average. And I've had my experience(s) with QC 2.0/3.0. At first
the phone stays in moderate temp but any use with it while it's charging
will heat it up noticeably, and a few months down the line, the phone
will get noticeably warmer than usual even with light/no use while it's
charging (again, MY experiences). And the phones that I've seen this
happen to is my Galaxy S6 and my fathers Galaxy S7 which are said to
have good cooling precautions.
just ordered the axon 7 on amazon🌟
How is it??
very good :) Has it too
the hype is real. The only thing I dislike about the ZTE is that there aren't any good cases or tempered glass screen protectors for it.
you can use a Dbrand skin that both look cool and will protect the device. The screen protector in the other hand may be harder to fix :/ but i'm sure there's something out there
Theost21 dbrand skins are just fancy stickers and don't actually protect the phone
one plus 3 for me
good choice
axon for me
Just wait till we Axon owners have our custom ROMs... I say give us about another month or two. Then, the OnePlus will have nothing on the Axon. That's why I chose ZTE. This phone's potential is much greater than OnePlus 3, and it'll soon be realized.
However, it's way harder to unlock the bootloader on the axon and, because the Oneplus One was one of its predecessors, the oneplus 3 will probably be better supported in the ROM world. I do see what you're saying tho as software and camera are the op3's advantages and you take one away with a stock-ish rom on the axon. Btw yes I'm typing this on my op3 but plz don't write me of as a fanboy.
CUSTOM ROMS ARE MOSTLY SHIT
+DankTech WHY ARE CUSTOM ROMS SHIT?
+ard k ZTE has already provided an unlock method, as well as the community at xda having found a way to do it without ZTE knowing. root is here, so is TWRP.
Yea i know this, but it's still a lot harder to do when compared to the op3.
I'm loving my Axon 7 with 128GB and 6GB ram. I've had OnePlus 1,2,x, and now I've switched. I've wanted dual speakers forever! and now, I also get a 2year included warranty, and a QHD screen that doesn't compromise the battery life. Also! the MiFavor user interface is ugly and I dislike it, so I use Nova Launcher, from the play store, and it's just as awesome as my OnePlus phones. Lastly, the backlight buttons are missed very much, and the MiPop feature helps, but they need to include back lights next year, definitely. Also, the finger print is very accurate and fast, and for anyone that disagrees, then I recommend deleting and reprogramming you finger print. Maybe you didn't scan the edges if your fingertips enough, or you didn't scan your print with casual hand holding angles.
I purchased the Axon and I love this phone. It is without a doubt the best Android phone I've ever owned. Great screen, audio, build, and performance is fantastic. Both phones are great, the axon fit my lifestyle needs better. Great job ZTE, you have my respect.
The Axon 7 really annoyed me in that the built-in Calendar can't be disabled, can't have permissions revoked, and can't have its notifications turned off. I use the same third-party calendar app on all devices, which means I now get doubly-notified for all events. ZTE is basically forcing you to remember their calendar app exists, and that just feels so anti-Android to me.
It's an absolutely gorgeous device in the hand, but the software really lets the hardware down.
It can be disabled.. What do you mean?
+Eileen the Crow Sorry, I meant at the system level. Several of ZTE's pre-installed apps can't have notifications blocked from the apps menu. The Calendar app also can't have any permissions revoked.
You are entirely correct, however, that notifications can be turned off in the app's own settings menu, so I apologize for spreading that bit of misinformation.
Has anyone done a follow up on the axon 7? I heard they've updated and fixed some things like the bell on the locksceeen
Jason Wilde its true
I'm leaning towards the axon 7. why? Because of how abysmal the OnePlus customer service is.
I like the back finger print scanner and the front facing speakers. Oh and the dac inside the axon 7 is a great plus.
Though my main concern with both devices is the GPS, since I'm coming from a OPO and have very poor luck with it, even after trying multiple fixes.
You won't have that problem on the Axon 7 and I'm sure you'll enjoy that upgrade in my opinion.
Depending on where you buy the Axon 7, the customer service will be even worse. I'd say go for the OP3 but the Axon 7 is very good too, but the customer service is not better, if not worse.
+Ynze van cleef I was thinking on going to test it out at Best Buy, if they have it on stock.
***** Alright, let me know, I'm curious. Best Buy seems like an alright place to buy it. Good luck!
+Cristo Rodriguez Newegg includes a really good pair of headphones if you buy from them.
has anyone found a good tempered glass screen protector or a good case yet?
My quartz gray Axon 7 is coming this week, can't wait! :D I'm more multimedia focused so Axon 7 was a no brainer.
I bought the Axon 7 this past weekend at Best Buy. They actually sold out of the Ion Gold & only had the Quartz Gray. Perfect for me, as I wanted the latter color anyway. Strange, since Amazon was selling the Quartz Gray for $450-500 (due to higher demand?). Anyway, love the phone. No issues so far.
I think the Axon 7 is the better choice! Most of its problems (not many to begin with by the way) can be fixed with software updates & this has been the case with recent updates. I choose the Axon 7 for its overall diversity. The screen is just awesome (1080p can't hold a candle to it & yes we can tell the difference). The speakers are perfect for any music lover. Mifavor Ui isn't the best but a quick launcher change can fix that. Battery life is really good, not to mention its quick charge capabilities. A very fast fingerprint scanner & top of the line specs like: The snapdragon 820, 4gb of ram, 64gb of storage (which most top flagships are also currently running). Not the best camera in the game but its good enough for an average person. A huge plus is that its also compatible with most major carriers if not all. Hopefully this helps anyone whose going back & fourth between the two!
Helped me plenty thanks bro
I don't get how so many people complained about the sensor on the front on the a9 yet we see it here again and no complaints o.O
Great video. Looking forward to my Axon 7 coming in the mail :D
Great comparison, but imo the Axon 7 is ugly af, so I think I'll go with the OP3. Btw, keep up the good work!
Great Reveiw! I did not realize the one plus 3 is not currently supporting all carriers. About the only area that samsung needs to work on for the note is better audio quality and more system ram. Also a 128 gb storage option should be available. Both of these phones in your review offer great specs , and performance, at a really good price.
which earbuds did you show at 2:30? i like the shape of the apple earpods but im looking for something more durable and high quality
Alex Oppe those are the earpieces that come with the axon
would a nexus 6p be a good choice over the axon 7 and the oneplus 3?
because i would like a good camera and music experience, and i am not a
big mobile gamer/ heavy user so i don't think i'd notice the
(negligible?) difference between the snapdragon 810/ adreno 430 and the
snapdragon 820/ adreno 530.
because these three phones are almost at
the same price where i live. i currently use an almost 4 year old lumia
820 lol!
Great Comparison! Thank you for an unbiased review! (imo)
Thank you!
(Android Authority)
ridiculous the was obviously bias against the one plus
+DankTech Want to point out the bias? he brought out the strong points of both devices, and stated his preference at the end of the video...
good night, which you stay with ZTE Axon 7 or One Plus 3?
Axon fixed the Ui in an update. it now gives you the option of mifavor or stock Android
Great video, very professional, thank you.
Can't fanboy either since I've never owned a Chinese smartphone before but I'm leaning more so towards that Axon 7 for the little things that it has over OP3. Both of them look great though especially at their price points.
My Nexus 5 has been glitching out and been showing its age recently. I'm looking to buy a budget phone and I have come to a conclusion to buy either the ZTE Axon 7 or the One Plus 3. They both cost the same here in Canada. I mostly watch UA-cam videos on my phone and other than that I am a regular user. I browse the web, social media, and play some games here and there. I don't really care about ROMs, in fact I don't even know what they are, I am just a regular user. Also, a nice camera would be good too! I'm trying to decide between these two for my needs. Which one do you guys suggest?
the op3 supports Verizon and Sprint for calls and only up to 3g. I heard that is the same for the ZTE. I'm not sure tho. thanks for the unbiased review, unlike Android authority.
WHEN CAN I BUY THE AXON 7 IN THE UK?!
the higher voltage output doesn't increase the charging speed. its the higher current output. its 4 amps on dash charge
Magic words in 2016 are hi-specs under $400 chinese. So which one do we buy: Oneplus 3, Axon 7, MI5, ZUK 2, Zenfone 3, Le Max 2, Honor V8, P9 ?. Is community an issue to consider? Are chinese manufacturers/hardware reliable? Great video on the OP3/AX7 comparison.
Op3 is better overall phone it does have any real flaws and hardware is reliable i have had chinees phone for long time
The Axon 7 genuinely CRUSHES the competition... Including the $700+ flagships.
Great review, finaly my mind is set :) tnx
tmidjic what did u go for?
The axon might be my new device to move on from my of Nexus 6, just hope the XDA crowd can get custom ROM support and android N running on.
I guess we will have to wait and see.
+Facundo Holzmeister apparently ZTE announced that they will provide a way to unlock the bootloader, though it will void the warranty.
I agree both are good devices. Kudos for companies putting out high quality flagships that won't cost you 1000 dollars.
axon 7 got this one...it might be my next device
Wallpaper on Oneplus 3 link?
software, useability and performance vs slighly better screen, 30min more baterry and amazing sound. kinda hard to me cuz i'm care a lot of software, but i chose 1+3 tho. If only ZTE update their rom and cmn those buttons.
s6 or op3 in terms of camera?
Great review! Very detailed comparison. Wait...I can use the Axon 7 Verizon??
Yes but I'm not a hundred precent sure it supports LTE, most consumers have noted that they even have problems when connecting to 4G.
+Facundo Holzmeister Yea I've heard that too. The phone does have Verizon bands but not certified. So the phone won't work... bummer. Thanks.
For now Verizon has to approve
front camera comparison of these 2 phones?
If you already have QC 2.0 chargers from prior phones the ZTE has an edge... that and the proprietary charging system limits the availability and SIGNIFICANTLY increases the cost of AC/DC devices.
ZTE has a SIGNIFICANT edge in that it is the first U.S. smartphone compatible with Google's Dream VR standards (9-axis gyro) and has the expandable storage you'd likely need to support VR software.
ZTE really missed the boat by not offering Qi wireless charging... the lack of wireless charging is the one thing keeping me from pre-ordering. Once you get used to bedside wireless charging you'll never want to go without it.
getting that axon tomorrow
No Google Daydream with the OnePlus 3/3T, that is why I went for the Axon 7. The video and audio on the Axon are beyond amazing. Also the USB3 (type-c) connection on the OnePlus is actually USB v2.0 - when I found this out I got upset at yet another company trying to screw me over with there smoke and mirrors.
Gary Lee whtten to get a new one for me
Oneplus 3 with resurrection remix ROM with viper4android and Dolby atmos equals amazing phone.
Yep, I got 154k on Antutu with RR
***** what do you mean the ROM or dolby/viper4android
***** Having a ROM can help you get the latest version of android, eliminate bloatware even though op3 doesn't have none, and adds additional features and system tweaks. Viper4android/Dolby atmos makes any android smartphone sound better even with Bluetooth headphones.
+WayTooUnderated resurrection remix is the name of a flavour of android. It is based on another flavour of android called cyanogen mod and it is optimised for performance and customisation
Britannio Jarrett exactly 👍👍👍
So much confusion between the video of Axon 7 pros and cons, such as fingerprint sensor speed and battery charging time.
what is "application reload time"?
It's the amount of time it takes for an application to open when it's been closed.
Oneplus 3 is a better choice you want regret it.
ZTE does not bring software updates and has very bad developer support and no unlockable bootloader and sourcecode.
Oneplus 3 on the other hand is a much better long time choice because oneplus will make software updates years from now.
One plus audio is shit
+KnxwledgeIsKey i think it's not... just not as good as the axon 7
+KnxwledgeIsKey The galaxy s7 audio is terrible, oneplus 3 sounds great just not as good as zte axon 7 but they both have there bonuses and the software, camera, and mod support is better on oneplus 3 but the Axon 7 has better audio and display with expandable storage and stronger design with vr support. Both devices are great, it's just what your looking for. Also Oneplus 3 has slight advantage on battery life and charging speed but it's a small difference both are great in so I don't count that as an advantage.
Dante Neal Exactly!
+KnxwledgeIsKey Install Dolby Atmos and the sound will be way better.
very good video, concise and to the point... bought this phone because I had to return my Note 7 for a SECOND time
S.L Jones which phone u
bought ?
Tony MTA yes, there were two phones discussed in the video, I did not clarify... I bought the axon 7 after returning my note 7 (which I really loved)... I'm enjoying this phone a lot, and honestly if it wasn't the runner up I'd probably be ecstatic over this phone
S.L Jones ok thanks, and yes I need return my beauty note 7 but I don't know if I go op3 or axon7, I like the op3 designs and the axon7 the screen is 2k ......question how is the screen brightness on the op3 ????......:( I miss ready my note 7
Tony MTA I'm assuming you meant on the axon 7...and the screen brightness is ok on this phone, not great...but I didn't think the note 7s brightness in direct sunlight was all that great either... both are good, note 7s a lil' better... the real problem with brightness on this phone is the ambient light sensor, I'm guessing an update will fix it, I've heard others had issues with it as well
I'm going for Axon!
It's odd that AP puts out this video 2 days after Whitwam posted his negative review and has been telling people to buy the OnePlus 3 over the Axon 7.
I have been enjoying my time with my Axon 7 thus far and do not regret buying it.
Waiting on the 1+3T
He sounds like Farengar from Skyrim...
Can't unhear...
just got my Zte Axon 7
how was it? im still waiting mine to arrive hopefully this week
for those who dont know the notification bell on axon 7 is optional now
that moment you want to get the axon 7 but it isn't going to be released in the Netherlands...
Ge kunt via de duitse amazon die wel bestellen!
Axon 7 is the first phone that's Daydream VR ready.
+Android Police please help me! Actually whenever I tries to open Nexus launcher, it says Unfortunately "Nexus launcher has stopped". I'm here using Galaxy Note III, v5.0 Lollipop. Please help me!! I tried Nexus launcher after downloading from many websites but the response remained same. Even I tried many tricks like cleaning cache, force stoping it, reboot the device. Do tell the trick which can be possible in non rooted because my device is not rooted as I didn't want to.
nexus launcher is only for Marshmallow and Nogut. It'll not work on Lollipop.
Irfanul Islam Nehal It works on Lollipop bro. Many UA-camrs reviewed the Launcher in their Lollipop version devices.
i couldn't get it worked on my Lg G2 lollipop. yesterday flashed CM13 and now the launcher is running flawlessly.
+Pero Peric i mainly use cloudy 2.2 and stock deblotted lollipop. cm13 is nice and smooth. camera quality is the reason i don't use cm13 always.
+Pero Peric yah. i always keep twrp backups of those in device. don't love the boring setup process.
It's a shame that the only reason I can't consider an Axon 7 is just because you have to press a button to see your notifications on the lock screen...
Really nice review.
I want a phone that looks like the oneplus 3 on the back but the Axon 7 on the front...
No fps and bad capacitive buttons just for speakers. That's a no for me.
+Britannio Jarrett They could easily space the buttons better.. But they aren't that bad.
And I don't like Fingerprint sensors anyway so I would be happy without one at all, but they could probably put it on the side.
+Britannio Jarrett plus you can use on screen keys if you want. That's coming next update for axon
get an htc phone. tha'ts where oneplus and the axon got its design from. however it will be a bit expensive if you're on a budget.
Well on top of you get free heaphones u can sell for 50$ in USA so phone price is 350 or at jet.com for 356 on top of that u get warranty yeah i test both phone ur getting better buck for your money on the axon 7, not just tied mostly in ATT and Tmobile im aware u can other small companies but still tho, oh u want the op3 with warranty too that would be a 350$ phone compare to 480$ lol
2:14 it's Dolby not Dobly.. lol
what I don't understand is how android police is verified at 46000 subs... wow
I'm getting the Axon 7 after I sell my shitty galaxy S6, can't believe I spent $800 on this phone last year while I could get a better phone at $400
Dolby, not dobly atmos feature. :)
anyone else catch the Dobly Atmos lol
Oneplus 3 available unlocked on U.K. Oneplus own site!!
dash charge facts are wrong, higher voltage output!?
compare them with umi phones
If I would have the money I would go for the axon 7
watching this from a axon 7 don't regret my choice 😀
Unless you want expandable storage or great audio I see no reason to choose the Axon 7 over the OP3.
Man that 60fps makes everything better
Alex King Did one plus fixed the problem with 60fps on 1080p?
which is better for watching videos?!reply plz
axon 7 has a better screen for videos imo
+Andero P it is ips tho oneplus has a amoled diaplay...
+Andrew Kantanoleon wrong
+calangel amoled is better at viewing videos imo...than the ips
+Andrew Kantanoleon they're both AMOLED!
No high res video?
1080p60, baby i.imgur.com/mV2Zkbr.png.

Are you How To Man youtube channel?
Yeah
Mo 126 I knew it as soon as you started talking I was thinking where I have heard this voice before.
He's half of HowToMen and our main video guy.
in german stores....over 400 bugs axon 7 :/
will zte axon 7 come to India
I don't think so... 🤔
Go to OnePlus 3 b4 tht wait and see if Axon 7 releases in India 🇮🇳 ♥️
+Aios thanks for the reply
Anand Tiwari no Problem...
Take a minute to check out my Channel... 👍🙏
Aios Is one plus 3 available in Singapore ?
which phone is best one plus 3 or zte axon 7 please reply
watch the video?
he said axon 7 in the video
I use the OnePlus 3 and you can't go wrong with it, I absolutely love it!
WenJuckts same lol i think the Axon 7 is so fucking ugly
oneplus, look at those ugly speaker grills and ugly color, huge bezels and ridiculous capacitive buttons UGLY!!!!!! FAT PHONE
OP3 FTW 👌
im not agree with you
you are only looking at the specs only on paper
1) you wont notice a diffwrencse bettween both screens unless you are using vr and op3 is brighter
2) op3 have vetter vattery live in my tests and hold about 30minutes mire
tge only thing that the axon7 beats op3 is audio and overall op3 is the better device.....
sounds biased, plus brightness and battery life don't define how much greater a device is. I personally own a Oneplus One and recently changed my mind from the Oneplus 3 to the ZTE Axon 7
+DukerHD especially when the brightness and battery life only win by a small margin
Lol I don't believe you at all
The on plus is 1080p with 401ppi. And the zte is 1440p with 538ppi. That is definitely better than 10 minutes of better difference, it's not 30mins
buttons not buddons
How the Fuck can a picture be noisy??
The camera.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_noise
Google plz
lol
this guy sees sound and feels colors
"Dobly" 😂😂😂😂
ZTE is Just not looking good enougj
I think the axon 7 is very ugly in hardware and software.
Buddins
Dude this shit was driving me crazy!
My accent gets in the way sometimes, sorry.
It's odd that AP puts out this video 2 days after Whitwam posted his negative review and has been telling people to buy the OnePlus 3 over the Axon 7.
