Having watched a fair share of runs, I can only say: this one is on another level. I‘ve never *felt* this level of ease during seeing someone just destroy this game. And theres starcraft pros out there who wish they were this precise with the mouse.
Hard to believe this is human level play, the number of times the video shows you do something yet i'm like "what? when did that happen?" and have to rewind haha. Really should be watching at 0.5 speed
What *should* be most impressive is the plan. However what I find most impressive is the execution. Goddamn that tech and accuracy are unreal. I know anyone can learn those skills w practice, and that the factory plan is where creativity shines, but the APM is most jaw dropping. The highest compliment I can give is that I actually watched this video in 1x speed. Unheard of.
I think I'm not good enough at the game to actually get how insane the planning is. I know it is, it's quite obvious, but my mind just kind of blanks as it's outside of my reach to really understand it. The execution though, it's just there for me to see and I'm in fucking awe. The speed and accuracy... he's just on par with the best StarCraft players.

Awesome! Two questions: Why do you include the end of a previous run at the start? Why do you never split yellow? It's really cool to see this minute barrier get broken.
1) Mostly to avoid cutting it in the middle of a sentence/word. 2) Splits after bots are meaningless since there are no clear split points that provide accurate information. I only keep yellow as a joke cause my chat complains I don't have enough splits :)

The settings are turned up pretty much all the way since this is any%. Nothing is missing from the run, I just tend to keep the first 5 or so seconds before a reset in the upload.

How do the map generation settings influence the run if a set map seed is allowed? i.e. Aren't you able to practice the same map over and over again until you've optimized it as best as possible? I noticed at the beginning of this video you re-started, but if it is the same map, shouldn't everything always be in the same place? btw - great video, you make it look easy enough for us to do it too, though reality is most of us would be lost after the first minute :)
Everything is in the same spot, but the big rocks are RNG dependent. (Ranging from 24-50 coal/stone) At the time I was only getting enough coal/stone like a quarter of the time, though shortly after this one I switched to a slightly different start which made like 90% of runs playbe (Costs a couple seconds off the final time, but saved me like 10 minutes of resetting each attempt) There was some consistency in the rocks since the game is deterministic, so you start to recognize a few rolls.
This is amazing! I can't believe the time is getting so low! This feels like a stupid question, but what's the purpose of the weird chest buffer at the end of the steel lines? It seems like you're trying to build up your steel storage but I can't figure out what benefit this has over a more standard method of putting it into a single chest
You can't get enough throughput in/out of a single chest for the original lane, and there's no real benefit to changing it after it's it copied to the shorter lanes since it's such a small handful of extra entities
I dont know why but for some reason the thumbnail seems familiar and idk why i have a memory of seeing the miner pyramid moment from before this run was ever posted. Then again 3 months ago might be longer than i realise
The base/build order/crafting is pretty much the same each run. Since the map is the same too I use a mix of counting/of patches/pieces of grass as reference points. The random seed categories tend to be similar but with different ore connections each time.
I'm curious as to why you build pipes between your steam turbines? when you can just connect them directly to each other and the boiler. Otherwise, your speed and accuracy are impressive.
With only small power poles you need to have pipes + poles in-between the steam engines. You can stagger the steam engines and save a few pipe but it's generally not worth the added complexity.
Definitely! 8 hours can be achieved with a very small base. Blueprints also help a lot for the getting the achievement. You really only need to get to bots within like 6-7 hours, then the bots can finish everything automatically afterwards.

I recommend the beginner build guide since it's flexible and can be used in any map (though taking this map seed is also an option, and it works really well) - www.speedrun.com/factorio/guide/jg8lg As you improve you can switch to a more tile perfect build like I use in the run, but beginner build can get you pretty far

any% allows for any map generation settings and can use a set a seed. There is a default settings category, though, which uses random seeds.

Are these buildings pre planned/structured, like you just memorize it, or do you free build as you go? Nonetheless, very impressive!
