Love seeing your updates. I’m 36 and had an upper and lower scope done on the same day. Doc found a very small polyp that he said had a 3.6% chance of being cancerous. The worst part of it is the bowel prep. The procedures themselves are a cake walk. 2 weeks after the procedures I get a call saying I tested positive for h pylori, which is a bacteria infection in the stomach that cause symptoms similar to colon cancer. Two weeks of antibiotics and I’m back to feeling like my normal self. My bowel prep was different from yours. I had 2 bottles of magnesium citrate mixed with 16 oz of water. Tasted like very salty cherry cough syrup. Same results nonetheless.
Way too young to have had to go through so much. Thank you for sharing your story and helping others with understanding the colonoscopy prep and taking the mystery/fear out.
26:54 The lidocaine is not for operative or post operative pain. It is to numb the vein to counter the burning sensation of the propofol. Anesthesiologists even have a acronym for this: POPI….Pain On Propofol Injection. Pain at the site of venous access is a well known side effect of IV propofol, and the lidocaine push prior to propofol (sometimes with a tourniquet to allow the lidocaine time to work) seems to be the most widely accepted practice to reduce incidences of POPI.
Thank U sooo much for this!! This was by far the best video I've watched to prepare for my first procedure...For those of us with multiple OTHER illnesses, its imperative to get ALL the details straight before going in for even a "minor" surgery. I now feel way more ready for it!! 🙂
Thank you for being so transparent. This will be my first colonoscopy and already I just want it to be over. Got a bunch of stuff to read, but it helps to get the insight from someone who has gone through the experience. You have put me at ease, to just follow instructions to the letter.
Thanks so much for posting about your experience with getting a colonoscopy. I have mine scheduled for tomorrow and am going through prep myself as we speak. I've never had one done before and it's been really challenging especially since my stomach issues flared up RIGHT before I started prep. The whole thing has been stressful since I'm in my twenties and we don't know what's going on yet but after this endoscopy and colonoscopy I'll be one step closer to getting things figured out. Watching your video put my mind at ease with the prep part and I really appreciate you for that! Thank you again!
It went as planned and good news is it's nothing life threatening or an infection! I'll be talking to my doctor soon to figure out a game plan for what they did find :)

I’m doing my colonoscopy on the 17 of may. I’m so terrified but watching this is making me calm. When I try to use the restroom my intestines muscle spasms on and roll up which can be terrifying 😢thanks for this video I’m going to use it to help me prep

Just had olonoscopy on Monday. Colonoscopy was worse than prep. Wished i would have seen your video sooner even so. My prep was pills at noon and Miralax mix at 4and was done by 8 and got some sleep. I was a wreck for the next day. Hope you stay well.
After watching your great video I called my doctor and will be having my first colonoscopy at age 70. Given that I have colon cancer on both sides of my family this will give us a baseline with which to compare future colonoscopies at ages 75, 80, 85, 90, etc.
You explained this so well. I had my procedure 2 days ago. I wish I had watched this before I had my colonoscopy. Mine was exactly like how you explained yours. Thank you for this video. ❤
@cynth8719 I had my colonoscopy on 4/24/23. The prep is nasty to drink but its best to drink it than to have that terrible disease of colon cancer. Please have it done, you'll be ok.
Thank you for putting out this video!! I’m 23 and having to go through a colonoscopy and egd soon. This really settled my nerves and gave me more insight into what to expect so thank you!!
Just got my coloscopy today - prep was exactly as you describe it in this video. The only difference is that I was only required to take 3 of the stool softeners instead of 4. I also lucked out that my procedure was early in the morning .. which made my 2nd dose at 11:30pm .. which allowed me to actually get a few hours of sleep. I did put a towel down on the bed just in case .. but I lucked out and actually got to sleep for a few hours 🤣.Procedure itself was completely painless and I am glad I went through it.
Hi! I'm in preparation now, scheduled for tomorrow. This is my second one after 3 years because my gastro found polips that were removed and she wants to see me again. My husband passed away from Colon cancer when he was 49 and no family history for this illness. The prep is not funny but is very important. Don't procrastinate this test!
Hi Jelena, thanks for this very informative video! I was searching for colonoscopy experiences and yours came right up. I’m in my mid-50s & have never had one, just two Cologuard tests (thankfully both neg) & CEA blood test also neg. I’m also in active treatment again for ovarian cancer stage 3 (had a recent relapse). Was diagnosed Apr 2021. Continued healing thoughts sent your way!
Hi Jelena! Glad it went well (the results 😉) , congrats for no polyps!! And good luck on the biopsy results! So at the dr office, how do they manage the procedure, vs you needing to constantly go?
Thank you! By the time I made it to the office the bowels had calmed down so I wasn't going anymore. I did feel the urge a little right after they wheeled me down to the procedure room, so they let me get up and walk to the bathroom before they knocked me out 😀
Thank you so much for this video. It helped so much to understand the timing. I do my first prep tomorrow evening at 7 pm so now I will know to not expect sleep. LOL. Thank you for the tip about the diapers. My second dose is at 9:00 am and my appointment is two hours away. I think those diapers will come in handy. I am not looking forward to this but I am not afraid anymore. This is the best prep video I have seen! God bless you with health and joy!
I found after experience with a few colonoscopies, that the day before the procedure, I don't eat anything and only drink water, is the best way. 1 hour after beginning to drink the laxitive, everything what was left in my bowel from what I ate 2 days before, comes out in one time, and that is not much. After that it is only watery a few times and I can go to sleep, without any disturbans. The next morning the second drink, and water just also comes out in one time. So , for me now it is not difficult to prep before an colonoscopy anymore.
Thanks for sharing. Every time I've had this test I fast. I choose not to put all of that toxic food in my body. I can't believe the list of "food" they give you. Nothing but things that are toxic except 2 of them that feed cancer as well. Plus by fasting it makes the prep a breeze because you're not pooping out as much. Best wishes. 😊
Ive had a colonoscopy two months ago ,they removed a polyp but there was a large one higher in my bowel they couldnt get so have to have another one in five days . Not looking forward to the prep at all .loved this straightforward vidio about it .thank you so much .im getting my cream tomorrow ❤
I'm prepping now and the clear liquids aren't as bad as I thought. My instructions didn't include any diet changes more than the day before. I hope I am doing it right.
Thank You so much for this video, I’m having my first colonoscopy on Wednesday and this information has really put my mind at ease. I will definitely be following your channel and passing information about your channel to family and friends. Again Thank you so much!!!!!!

First of all may God bless you and keep you strong and heal you. Thank you for the very detailed preparation expectations, my wife is having her first colonoscopy soon and I want to have things prepared ahead of time as much as possible. Especially the dermoplast spray. When I had mine done I woke up the morning of with a splitting headache maybe I was dehydrated after seeing your video. Thank you again so much appreciated , God bless you.
I have incontinence bed pads that I actually use as piddle pads for my dogs. Glad I have that. I'll maje use if them once I start the prep. Lidocaine causes breathing issues with me, so it's good to know that's what they use so I can communicate this prior to my procedure. I'm going in for my first ever because of bowel issues...we are suspecting IBD or Celiac disease as I have diarrhea or loose stools quite often. Thanks for your video. Has eased my mind somewhat.
Thank you so much for your informative and put together videos, I appreciate them so much. My colonoscopy is scheduled for Nov 19 and I'm hoping my hunch of having colorectal cancer is wrong.

i’m 20 i have to get one in a few days because they don’t know what’s causing all my pain and problems and im so scared for what they find but im happy u uploaded this it was very helpful thank you
Thanks so much for posting this, girl! Very informative. I may need a scope soon, as well. Can you explain more what propofol felt like? Like, did you feel it going into your IV? And did you even get drowsy or was it like you were wide awake one second and then waking up the very next second?
I didn’t feel either drug going into my IV. Within probably 10 seconds my eyelids got heavy and I closed them, then I was out. It was like taking a nap...I didn’t feel like I had only been out for a second, I knew I had been out for a bit.
@@SurvivorJelena @xcalabur18 I also wondered about propofol. I've had 2 colonoscopies. The first time I didn't feel the propofol. The second time I felt a warm sensation (it was not painful or uncomfortable--just a sensation). Just about as soon as I felt the warm sensation I started waking up because the colonoscopy was over! You go to sleep quickly. No reason to be concerned.
The prep I had was different. Normal diet till the day before but no nuts or seeds for week before. Liquid diet the day before basically the same but no ENSURE. 6 pm a pouch of magnesium dissolved in 150 cc. Cold water and then drink 2 liters of clear liquids in 2 to 4 hours. I did not could not drink it all did the best I could. Then day of 5 hours before test the other the other packet with 2 liters clear liquids over 2 to 4 hours. 4 hours before test one half bottle of magnesium citrate 150cc. If still solid in stool take other half. The premeds here are fentanyl and midalazam.. I had 2 mgs midalazam and awake during procedure not at all painful. Ready to go home in less than 1/2 hour also had to be picked up. On PREVIOUS colonoscopy I had more midalazam was out and had to stay longer. As people say having a colonoscopy is way easier than having cancer treatment. Hope you get all good news from the test.
I should say if your 45 years of age get your butt to the doctor because you can catch it before it catches you I’ll be doing mine soon any advise to people who have fear of anxiety of getting this prep done.
May I suggest have plenty of adult pullups, large absorbent pads to put inside the pullups, disposable chux, cloth reusable chux to protect the bed, chairs and car. Wear loose shorts/pants wirh an elastic waiatband (no buttons or zippers) so you won't be delayed going to the bathroom, as you will have literally seconds to get to the restroom.
@@alexac921 Have had many colonoscopies and never had a problem. The prep is the worst part. Make sure you do a thorough prep, so that you won't be forced to repeat the procedure.
Have mine in 2 day,I’ve been in a bad constipation in last several weeks so I start a liquid diet 2 days prior to the procedure. I have picked up the prep kit from Farmacy, do I still need otc miralax?
When I start getting "raw" during a cleanse, I cease wiping and just jump in the shower and rinse off. Then air dry. Much more gentle and tolerable. Hope it helps. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Hi I loved your video very informative. I have a question im a coffee drinker mainly because when I stop I get terrible headaches. How long before the procedure would you have to stop drinking coffee? Thank you😊
You have to stop drinking all liquids 2-3 hours before the procedure. Depending on the time of your colonoscopy you could drink black coffee with sugar the morning of, just no cream or milk allowed.
I’m going in for my first colonoscopy in two weeks. I’m turning 46 on Saturday so it’s a little later than planned. The colonoscopy clinic appointments are backed up for UCSD. My referral was approved over a year ago. My husband had a failed colonoscopy a few months ago because he didn’t clear his bowels enough so they had to stop the procedure. I’m hoping that won’t be the case for me. I’m going to ask my provider about the Gatorade/miralax prep to see if I can do that instead of the nasty drink they want me to do. My husband just about gagged when he had to drink the prep. It’s horrible!!! Our provider prescribes a prep that comes from the pharmacy. It’s powder in a gallon container. Just add water. Thanks for sharing your experience. I sure hope mine goes well. Having colorectal cancer would be so scary. I’m so glad you survived. Wish me luck!!!
I'm glad to hear you're finally able to get in for your colonoscopy 💙 I definitely doesn't hurt to call the office and ask about trying a different prep. It sounds like your husband had the Golytely prep - being able to choose a the flavor of your prep is nice with the Gatorade one. If you have to do the gallon jug, try having some candy to suck on (that isn't red or blue) in between drinks.
Just know that there are probably millions of others that have gone through getting a colonoscopy and have been just fine. Take some deep breaths and focus on the things you can control right now, like getting things to make the prep a little more comfortable and liquids that you’ll like to drink.
Hello Jelena ! First of all thank you for your great video-journey to the colonoscopy world! Excellent video and tips. I’m very late to the game probably 25 years plus ! I know that s crazy but now at 66 it s a must no longer excuses! I am doing with Kaiser in a few days +_10 days and your explanation it was just perfect from the pre to the pos ! I did not see on my papers Ensure, by any chance any particular flavor? Thank you for your caring tips !
Glad you’re finally going in for a colonoscopy! The prep sheets I got didn’t mention a specific flavor, but chocolate or vanilla are probably the safest.
Damn. I am having a procedure on Monday at 7:30am. It’s currently Thursday. Your video has my anxiety at a 10 🤦🏻♀️. I’m 59 years old and it’s my first one. My baby brother passed from colon cancer at age 39. In 2016. He didn’t know he had it until it was stage 4. Chemo sped up the cancer. And he died 3 months later. I’m doing this but still anxious 🤦🏻♀️
Exactly, that's what speeds up death. My mother went to the hospital and was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer. She didn't even know she had it. She died peacefully in her sleep the next morning. She was 80
Thank you so much this was amazing and the keiser list was so helpful as a vegetarian I freaked out when I saw no fruit or veggies. Thank you so much this was awesome
I am suppose to be having a colonoscopy tomorrow. I received no instructions just the stuff to drink. Not a lot of thorough instructions. I forgot and ate a bowl of cereal. Around 10:45am by colonoscopy is tomorrow at 10:30. I ate almonds yesterday. I am wondering if I should cancel since I ate those things.
I called the colonoscopy Dr. Office today. They just schedule the procedure without any consultation. NONE! Or I could pay $40 for a requested consultation. I called them back and canceled. They don't seem to care about me as a person with fear and real mental conditions. I'm better off not having it done than having a mental breakdown .
I think that’s common. I didn’t have a separate consultation appointment before any of my colonoscopies, between the 2 different offices I’ve gone to for them. My “consult” was with my regular doctor that referred me for my first one. Then before the procedure the doctor comes in and talks to you about any symptoms you’ve been experiencing, etc. Having a mental breakdown isn’t good, but neither is ignoring cancer.
@@SurvivorJelena Thanks Jelena, At 65 years I would not go through any treatment anyway. Seems like a waste resources. When the medical industry can prolong the agony ones demise for profit, why bother with the " cure" ?

The worst part of it is the bowel prep. The procedures themselves are a cake walk. 2 weeks after the procedures I get a call saying I tested positive for h pylori, which is a bacteria infection in the stomach that cause symptoms similar to colon cancer. Two weeks of antibiotics and I’m back to feeling like my normal self. My bowel prep was different from yours. I had 2 bottles of magnesium citrate mixed with 16 oz of water. Tasted like very salty cherry cough syrup. Same results nonetheless.
So happy to hear that you’re feeling back to normal and that the polyp wasn’t cancerous!
That seems much better than the f 19:19 white awful tasting liguid prescribed for me
this was the best video I have seen, you have eased my nerves, and fear. thank you so much, you are a GOD sent, I hope all goes well in your life.
Thank you so much for your kind words💙 I’m glad my video helped you out so much!
Way too young to have had to go through so much. Thank you for sharing your story and helping others with understanding the colonoscopy prep and taking the mystery/fear out.
You're welcome! The prep isn't fun, but it's a picnic compared to cancer treatment.
You’re welcome💙 I’m glad to hear it was so helpful for you!
I had a colonoscopy last year and the dr found 13 polyps and they were benign. I’m getting another colonoscopy this coming Monday.
Wow, that’s good news that all those polyps were benign. Hope your colonoscopy on Monday goes well.
Thanks for sharing and not being afraid to talk about the rumble stuff. That’s the part that I am nervous about.
It wasn’t fun, but it was over within a day, so it was manageable.
I hope your colonoscopy went ok and it helped the doctors figure out what’s causing you troubles 🤞🏼💙
It went as planned and good news is it's nothing life threatening or an infection! I'll be talking to my doctor soon to figure out a game plan for what they did find :)
That’s great news! And good to hear they’re coming up with a plan with what they did find.
Thank you for your honesty. I will try to endure the upcoming procedure.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
It’s no picnic, but it’s way easier than going through cancer treatment.
@@SurvivorJelena Hello,
I had my colonoscopy today. Everything went well. Thank you for your encouragement. Continued the fight good fight of faith.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
You are gem for making these videos!
I’m doing my colonoscopy on the 17 of may. I’m so terrified but watching this is making me calm. When I try to use the restroom my intestines muscle spasms on and roll up which can be terrifying 😢thanks for this video I’m going to use it to help me prep
This has been far more informative than both the surgeon who's booked me, and the pharmacist I picked my prep kit up from, combined!!!Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
You’re welcome! Hope it made prepping a little bit easier 💙
I’m so happy you called your doctor to go in for your first colonoscopy!
Great video and yay on being cancer free!! I feel less scared about the process now!
Thank you. And I’m so happy that you feel less scared by the recess after watching this 💙
Thank you so much for making this video. I go this Thursday for my first one and really appreciated your tips and sense of humor. Bottoms up!🍷
You explained this so well. I had my procedure 2 days ago. I wish I had watched this before I had my colonoscopy. Mine was exactly like how you explained yours. Thank you for this video. ❤
Thanks for sharing your experience, Jelena! I have been afraid of the prep and procedure but I feel encouraged to get it done now
I’m so happy to hear this! Go get that colonoscopy scheduled 😀📞
I was so scared waited until I was 63 was forced due to going into emergency surgery! If I had known it was so simple I do it all over again !
@cynth8719
I had my colonoscopy on 4/24/23. The prep is nasty to drink but its best to drink it than to have that terrible disease of colon cancer. Please have it done, you'll be ok.
I’m getting my colonoscopy on Tuesday. I’m nervous but this video helped me.
Thank you for putting out this video!! I’m 23 and having to go through a colonoscopy and egd soon. This really settled my nerves and gave me more insight into what to expect so thank you!!
You’re welcome, and good luck! 💙
We are so happy you made this channel. Thank you all the informational input and the sharing of your journey . Thank you! (Hugs) you are amazing
Happy to help! Thanks for being a viewer 💙
I’m so happy to hear you went in to get screened 👏🏼
Thank you for your detailed video and sharing your experience. Prepping for one this Friday. Wishing you continuous good health!
Great explanation! Looking forward to the live!
Thank you! Looking forward to “seeing” you Thursday 😃
Thank you for this! I am having anxiety right. Im going in on Friday for one.
4:45 avoid anything red or blue? my list said avoid anything red, purple, or orange.
Mine too
I’m having one tomorrow! Thank you for sharing your story!
Good luck! And you’re welcome 😀
I did feel the urge a little right after they wheeled me down to the procedure room, so they let me get up and walk to the bathroom before they knocked me out 😀
I appreciate your details about the symptoms you had. I am glad I am getting checked out.
That’s great you’ve got a system figured out that works well for you.
Thank you, very helpful information.
I am glad your intestines are now in good condition.
All the best to you.
Best of luck to you as you start your prep 🤞🏼💙 Hope everything looks good. Happy to help and thanks for sharing!
Thank You 🙏
thank you so much for your advice👍 thank you for taking this time to make these videos. I am also happy to see that everything is going well with you. what a beautiful personality you have. see you soon
Ty so much for making this video ❤
Thank you so much for making this video I learned so much from it❤
You’re welcome 💙
I have incontinence bed pads that I actually use as piddle pads for my dogs. Glad I have that. I'll maje use if them once I start the prep. Lidocaine causes breathing issues with me, so it's good to know that's what they use so I can communicate this prior to my procedure. I'm going in for my first ever because of bowel issues...we are suspecting IBD or Celiac disease as I have diarrhea or loose stools quite often. Thanks for your video. Has eased my mind somewhat.
Thank you!....by far your video helped me the most!!!
Happy to help 💙
My Dr said I had to use MiraLAX with Gatorade only not anything else
Excellent video and information. Thank you!!
You’re welcome! I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it 💙
Thank you so much for your informative and put together videos, I appreciate them so much. My colonoscopy is scheduled for Nov 19 and I'm hoping my hunch of having colorectal cancer is wrong.
You’re welcome. I hope too that you don’t have cancer 🤞🏼💙
Thank you so much for this video!!! I was sooo nervous and afraid about my colonoscopy 4 days from now 😢 But fortunately I came across your video and I'm feeling a lot better. I truly appreciate you 😅😅😅
You’re welcome! Hope the prep and colonoscopy go ok 💙
I have been diagnosed with diverticlitis. no referal for a colonoscopy offered, but other advice questions why not ? So ive been spending some time researching, and so happy I found your video. Thankyou so much.

Thanks for sharing your experience!
My pleasure!
i’m 20 i have to get one in a few days because they don’t know what’s causing all my pain and problems and im so scared for what they find but im happy u uploaded this it was very helpful thank you
Thanks so much for posting this, girl!
I love your videos and how you explain everything!
Thank you! I try my best to make them informative so anyone watching can understand what to expect.
I used Gatorlyte instead of Gatorade, on my doctor's orders.
How are you doing. I enjoyed your prep advice. Thx.
Love your video going to take the same steps I will use lemon Gatorade is that good
The prep I had was different.
I just had my colonoscopy and dreaded the prep drink but everything came out ok.
Glad everything came out ok.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the tips! I’m having mine done in a few weeks and I’m absolutely terrified.
@@alexac921 Have had many colonoscopies and never had a problem. The prep is the worst part. Make sure you do a thorough prep, so that you won't be forced to repeat the procedure.
I have CROHNS DISEASE since 2010 and I get Endoscopys and Colan Oscopys.
This is not a typical patient for colonoscopy prep as she had bleeding, explosive diarrhea nausea. Anyway thanks for sharing her experience!
The Lidocaine is injected first because the Propofol burns. It wasn't used as a pain relief for the scope.
Have mine in 2 day,I’ve been in a bad constipation in last several weeks so I start a liquid diet 2 days prior to the procedure. I have picked up the prep kit from Farmacy, do I still need otc miralax?
I really appreciate your video
Thank you
When I start getting "raw" during a cleanse, I cease wiping and just jump in the shower and rinse off. Then air dry. Much more gentle and tolerable. Hope it helps. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thanks for the tip!
@@SurvivorJelena thank you
Going in for my first endoscopy and colonoscopy this week. I’m 26 and very nervous about what the results could be. Hoping all goes well
I’m going in for my first colonoscopy in two weeks.
Any idea how not to be nervas
😢😢😢😢
@@SurvivorJelena Thank your reply and I am definitely will be using your videos as I prepare for my procedure ! Have a great day !
What i can replace Gatorade with healthier versions? I avoiding all artificial colors 😓
Try calling your doctor’s office for recommendations.
She was 80
Great video
Thank you so much this was amazing and the keiser list was so helpful as a vegetarian I freaked out when I saw no fruit or veggies. Thank you so much this was awesome
You’re welcome 💙
