This YT channel has major lext level info, but this gentleman has the best quality music of all the musically oriented channels I've subbed to, BAR NONE , hands down. Well written, excellent radio ready production, All the bells & whistles , but just THE SONGS are such good , inviting, hook filled gems, it's insane, I'm sure there's all kinds of comments that say as much , I'm just expressing my opinion
I just stumbled across ur channel. I watched the first and second video pertaining to recording vocals and harmonizing. I like the way you explained it and went into detail. I been making beats for almost three years. So I’m just soaking up all the gems and jewels I can. Combine that with countless hours. And I’m making progress. I say that because, I want to support those who have contributed to my progress. Thanks. I’m tuned in…..
Such dope content !!! Love this. As a vocal arranger myself, I've never thought about how/why exactly I do what I do until recently when I started collabing with folks and realizing I needed a template for my "go-to" channel settings. Thanks for all the tips LXGEND
Hey bro, just wanna thank you for this video. The speed at which you talk is perfect for me! So many people on here talk way too slowly and it makes me lose focus lol. Great job!!
I usually think in my head I speak too fast for most people but surprisingly that hasn’t been the case and you’re the first to actually confirm it. Lol thank you and glad it was helpful
I just saw this video and noticed that it was put out a year ago, which goes to show you that even something done a year ago is so, so relevant still today. Keep up the good work.
Great informative video. Q . Do you consider your harmonies to be the bkgrnd vox? Q. Have you ever thought of recording the harmony track once, duplicating that track 3 more times, one track add a 3rd step above or below, one track add a 5th above or below, one track add 1 octave above and the last track one octave below. Saves one from recording multiple tracks but ends with the same result- each tracks sounding a slight bit different (like a normal voice). I use Ableton Live 12. Thanks for sharing. ✌❤
1. My harmonies are background vox. 2. Duplicating the track doesn’t give the same effect as recording unique vocal takes. So I never duplicate. It needs the nuance of the subtle differences in each recording.
An octave is the same as a single note only in the higher or lower register. Think a low bass singer vs a high soprano. They can both sing the same note but the bass player will sing it in the lower octave (same note, lower register) and the soprano sings it in the higher one (same note, higher register). It’s just a way of saying that. If you have think about a scale, there are 8 notes within a scale. An example of an octave would be the first and last notes within that scale. Recording octave stacks means recording both the higher and lower registers of the note in whatever you’re recording. And Harmonies are harmonies.
@@IAMLXGEND Thanks so much! It turns out octaves are what I thought harmonies were this whole time. just so I’m clear, could you define a harmony like you did the octave?
It’s just any other note in a chord that goes together. Octave being a same note just in another register, a harmony is simply: another note added to an existing one.
Wouldn’t help. It’s the idea that your voice is being played to you through a source that isn’t yourself. This is why it still throws at least me off. And why you see a lot of singers on tour or performing take out their earpiece because they’d rather hear the sound live in person. Same situation here.
The reason You are applying plugins in the first place is to fix what the vocals Sound like. You don’t know what the vocals sound like until You record them. So while you can add plugins before you record… you’re gonna have to readjust them anyway after recording. So just add them after recording.
Man I sing with a recording choir we do like 3 takes with the whole choir then about 2 people per section Alto/Tenors/Sopranos comeback and do dubs but you gotta be about that life Try singing the same thing 14 times and recording 5 songs at a time I got to the point me and my peeps hit it the first time so we can hurry and be done sometimes we was recording till like 3 in the morning
I probably did, this was when I was still getting familiar with Logic as I came from Garageband and haven't worked with Bus channels since Pro-Tools way back in 2010.
Not sure what you mean by pushed to the left. If you mean my talking vocals in this video panned then no. That’s a software issue with the stream recorder I was using at the time. If you mean my actual microphone being off screen and to the left then yes.
Figuring out what octaves depends entirely on both your vocal range, which type of singing voice you want to do it in (full voice, head voice, chest voice) and how well you’re able to sing it in your range. If you want it to sound powerful, loud, and strong, sing in whatever octave is your range. If you want it to sound quieter or more gentle, sing in your head voice. If you want a mix of both, sing in your chest voices whatever octaves come from that, your choice. If you’re referring to knowing what NOTES to sing (octaves are just higher and lower ranges and aren’t necessarily notes), I’m going to make a video that explains how to find harmonies.
If you mean how many stacks per note in the harmony: multiples of 2. (2, 4, 6, 8, 16 etc). How many depends on you and what sound you personally want to achieve. But you have to pan them evenly & accordingly to still achieve “surround sound”.
You’re overthinking it. Just record the same exact thing four times, and sing every single part exactly the same, as similar as you can. That’s the entire goal. Record it 4 times the exact same way. There’s nothing you have to do to make it different. Your imperfections as a human automatically do that.
I know, don’t worry. But yea, everything in the vids is as explained. Trust, if there’s ever detailed info like that that would be necessary, I’d always explain. I talk way too much in my vids. So rest assured, everything gets explained. 😂

Huuuuuge one. Recording harmonies is literally my favorite thing ever to do 🤣
@@IAMLXGEND definitely my favorite as well! 🤣🤷🏾♀️ this video made me wanna hit my studio though!

The template is a GAME CHANGER. Trust me. It’s so good to have your own default presets to just click and go. So fast.

Yo you lessons are so helpful. Much appreciation 💪
Great song my G. Good video.
Those stacks that are to be hardly noticeable create consistency
Amazing!!!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thx for your support and tips!
Always welcome 🙏🏾
Do u have a video where u show how to find and decide on harmonies?
Your videos are so helpful. Im alittle confused about harmonies though. What’s the difference between octave stacking and harmonies?
An octave is the same as a single note only in the higher or lower register. Think a low bass singer vs a high soprano. They can both sing the same note but the bass player will sing it in the lower octave (same note, lower register) and the soprano sings it in the higher one (same note, higher register). @@IAMLXGEND legend 🙏😭
Guys my recording lags, I can't monitor myself when recording. I add autotune and revert and wwoooww.. it's a mess. How can I fix this?
This is precisely why I do not monitor. I just take an ear off.
@@IAMLXGEND which works, but what is the ideal setup?
Wouldn’t help. It’s the idea that your voice is being played to you through a source that isn’t yourself. This is why it still throws at least me off. And why you see a lot of singers on tour or performing take out their earpiece because they’d rather hear the sound live in person. Same situation here.
@@IAMLXGEND True, I also have tried to lower latency and still have delayed.
CLA VOOOOOCALLLLLLLS
I do have a doubt. Do I record my vocals and then applying my plug-ins? or Do I need to have my vocal template ready and then record my vocals?
The reason You are applying plugins in the first place is to fix what the vocals Sound like.
You don’t know what the vocals sound like until
You record them.
So while you can add plugins before you record… you’re gonna have to readjust them anyway after recording. So just add them after recording.
@@IAMLXGEND Thank you🙂
Brand new to this. What's a daaa?
Not a “daaa” it’s “DAW”.
D - digital
A - audio
W - workstation
Aka the program you use to make and record music.

I’ve done 16 stacks on a single harmony before (not counting all the other harmonies which were 4 a piece) so yea, I know how it is lol.
I AM A TREE
You may have had a mono plugin on your vocal bus but point home!
I probably did, this was when I was still getting familiar with Logic as I came from Garageband and haven't worked with Bus channels since Pro-Tools way back in 2010.
You look like babyface ray😂😂 I appreciate the music tips though
do you purposely have your mic pushed to the left?
Not sure what you mean by pushed to the left. If you mean my talking vocals in this video panned then no. That’s a software issue with the stream recorder I was using at the time. If you mean my actual microphone being off screen and to the left then yes.
Question, how do you figure out what octaves do you use for each stack? And for the dubs, do you usually sing and octave higher
I sing whatever I want. I don’t have a “usual”.
@@IAMLXGEND Alright, thank you. I've been having a hard time trying to make harmonies that sound decent at least.
@@IAMLXGEND yes yesss i can’t wait for that video as i have no idea how to “find” harmonies as well
It’ll be the first time I’ve ever attempted to teach people how I find mine so… should be interesting for us all 😂
How many of layers of each Harmony should someone add?
If you mean how many stacks per note in the harmony: multiples of 2. (2, 4, 6, 8, 16 etc). How many depends on you and what sound you personally want to achieve. But you have to pan them evenly & accordingly to still achieve “surround sound”.
ChatGPT recommended this video to me.
Volcalign??
Nope, manual.
So when you say don’t just record the same vocal 4 times how do you make it different?
The character of the voice....
You’re overthinking it. Just record the same exact thing four times, and sing every single part exactly the same, as similar as you can. That’s the entire goal. Record it 4 times the exact same way. There’s nothing you have to do to make it different. Your imperfections as a human automatically do that.
also I did not say “dont just record the same vocal 4 times”. I said don’t *duplicate* the vocal 4 times.
@@IAMLXGEND oh ok I see. Thankyou. I’m just trying to make sure I get it right. I’m struggling with making background vocals.
I know, don’t worry. But yea, everything in the vids is as explained. Trust, if there’s ever detailed info like that that would be necessary, I’d always explain. I talk way too much in my vids. So rest assured, everything gets explained. 😂
