I think the ladies won that last round . Nice to see Ms. Palmer and Ms. Myerson doing that physical activity .

I'm only 27, watching these videos inspires me. I can only imagine the happiness and intense honor mr.vernon must feel, having a choir of his sons, daughters in law, and grandchildren sing around him.

This is the first one where I've seen Bill Cullen move around that much. He had polio as a child and was also in a bad accident that put him in a hospital for 9 months. These both made it difficult for him to walk or stand for long and gave him a limp. They usually structured the sets of his shows so he didn't have to stand or walk around much. There is a touching story by Mel Brooks where Mel was on one of Cullen's shows and didn't know he had trouble walking. When Bill walked up to him after the show Mel thought he was joking around and so Mel imitated his limp. Bill teared up, hugged Mel, and thanked him because everyone was always so serious about his disability that it would make him feel worse about it. Bill loved that Mel had the nerve to poke fun at him, so Mel didn't tell him he just didn't know about it.

The women did a much better job packing the car than the men did, but it was hilarious watching the men do it! Lol.

According to IMDB Garry Moore , Betsy Palmer and the absent Henry Morgan appeared on the Carson hosted The Tonight Show , mostly in the 1960s when this show was NYC based . Bill Cullen and Bess Myerson never appeared on The Tonight Show during the Carson period . Alan King appeared on the Carson Tonight Show many times over the entire Carson run . He was the guest host for Carson on one of the apearances of Garry Moore .

I cannot believe someone posted this. The first guest is my great uncle Landon. I have wanted to see this my entire life. Thank you so much for posting it!

My Daddy’s from Brookeland, too. Jerry Brewster. This is so cool! He would’ve been 20 in 1960. I have to show this to him.

Landon was my grandfather's brother. My maiden name is Bradshaw. You dad might know my dad, Norman.

@oksills I can't believe I missed your comment a year ago! If you mean my Uncle Landon with the watermelon, he was a WWII vet who fought in the Pacific. He was frail here because he never really recovered after the war. He became a famous newspaper columnist in East Texas. He died a looong time before the internet existed though. I have a book that was compiled of a lot of his famous columns. Amazing man!❤

Carson was 34 the date of this show . He was very youthful when he began his long run on The Tonight Show . Those cigarettes and booze took its toll over the long run , sadly .

Why can't we have more family shows like the Vernon's instead of the trash on TV today.

Bill Cullen showed that he was a gentleman when he pulled out Betsy's chair for her. I would sure like to meet a Christian gentleman who would treat me like that.

That final stunt had not been thought through.
They should have been told the top must close.
Whichever team had the most leftover was the loser. The women would have won!

The car packing bit was a clever idea. However, the “boys” absolutely ruined it by TRYING to be what they mistakenly thought was funny. Cornball junk can be done by any dufus. I was sooooo disappointed; so much wasted potential.
