One thing with kids is they like their own rooms when they grow up. That office should be in your bedroom, since your bedroom is big. But for now, Zae Zae is too young and not a teenager yet.

You’ve made a great choice! Walnut Creek is an amazing city with history, charm, beauty and high prices!! Well done….I grew up in the east bay….and!! The school system is top notch
That back and side yard is looking rough. First it needs to be clean up of debris. Second, the side yard with the A/C should be the shed area. Pour concrete for base, install shed. For other side yard, install a mini turf for the kids. For the backyard, hire a concrete company to pour stamped concrete so that Rachel dad can park his van and not have it sink into the soil and having a flat concrete base, means you can have a dining area and BBQ area without having to worry about soggy lawns. I purposely mentioned no grass because from your other house, it seems gardening and growing a lush, green lawn may not be your strength...I mean that with love. Having an area to relax outside adds useful living area and increases the usable area of the house.

The area that you called a storage area i would make it a baking station and put your mixers, bakeware stuff and pans! As for the yard, in the turf area I’d put a small above ground pool because it’s a sunny spot and i would have the grass wrap around til patio part. The upper lounge area you can make it a formal area with comfortable furniture and abit of home decor as it has the fireplace for the winter months. The tree outside is a fig tree and you have to put a netting on it when it fruits because the birds might ruin the figs. Love the house. My husband will love the space at the backyard 😍. I suggest the storage area, you can put a divider and decorate it with some decorative souvenirs. As the backyard, you can plant some flowers especially at the corners (nearby grandpa's van). It'll be lovely to have some nice bright ones as you walk by.
Idk why but this is such a Malaysian thing to do lol. Yes we have glass/mirror cabinets that display travel souvenirs, fancy plates, and wedding favours in many Malaysian homes

Hi guys Keep the carpeted living room as the official living room. Make the other one the family room. Then you will have use for that small space in between kitchen and family room. Perhaps a breakfast table?? Zay should have his own room. Maybe instead of breakfast table,you guys can have the office there besides the family room
I don't want the first thing a guest to see when they enter the house is the messy kids toys area. ON that note, I would make the bigger living as the kids/ family room instead. I'll put the kids gate( from the wall that has the side sliding door all the way to the wall (at the dark blue sofa) there so that you guys can see them playing while you guys are in the kitchen. The living room facing the main door, i'll make it the living room + dining room open concept. The odd table that you've mentioned will be taken out and there will be the formal dining room. And for the current dining room, I would beak the wall ( your coffee section area that you've set up) will be like a small cosy breakfast peninsular table & a snug.... The fridge will be at the door so that your peninsular can be a little bit bigger... I don't know if you'll like this idea thou..
Compared to the indoor, I am more fascinated by the backyard space, a nice garden set up with herbs, a big swing to relax. I have a question. In the West, parents tend to have a separate room for their young ones, while in the eastern part we ppl keep them close even while sleeping. How do you guys peace it out??

I like the basic architecture of the house. Awesome guys! Congrats! Happy Birthday! 🎂🎉 I think for the outside corner in the yard you could try a mid sized fountain or a covered gazebo for shade and picnic area. The hitch in the ground you could always invert a flower pot or barrel over~ just as long as it’s big enough to be sturdy~ until you’re able to get it pulled. The inside, for that one section, you could try a rounded edge end table with some framed family portraits~ you don’t have to choose one or any of those ideas but hopefully it helps spark some ideas you may have 😊

It's a very nice house. and have plenty of potential. I would suggest that the space you pointed out where next to the kitchen turn it to dinning area. Then the current dinning area turn it to your office. have glass panel partition & glass door with it will looks nice. Zeyden room can be part of guest room for now. As the yard, the area that next to your suggested patio, clean out the shrubs then you can assign it for your children activities like putting a inflatable children swimming pool during summer, tent as back yard camping or trampoline and so on. To have a small mobile islands(since it quite narrow) in the kitchen can be useful. Anyway it's just my suggestions. whatever you do should suit to your entire family needs.

My suggestion is to have the empty space in front the island counter into more spacious office and Zadens room as fully room . He will need his own room aft some time .
rear yard where van was parked is good for patio, barbeque n all rear side yard ok for turf for playing and front side where the tap was should be green vegies farming thing as lot of windows there n football etc will damage that... last the front one wd tree put some ext storage thing n more plants...

I love your new house especially the yard..I have always wanted a space like that to grow herbs but since living in a high rise flat in Singapore I will never such opprtunity.I suggested probably you would like to set a portion in yr yard for herbs garden like pandan leave, lemon grass, mint, cilantro, curry leaves etc. Those herbs are useful if u want to make nasi lemak, curry or tea such as mint tea, lemongrass tea or even teh tarik wth pandan aroma

Congratulations on your new abode! Looks lovely and spacious. I especially love the garden/yard that surrounds the house. So much you could do with the outdoor space. A patio as you have in mind provides a great extension of space to move around. Can put in some furniture that can also allow outdoor meals on weekends. Personally I like growing vegetables and herbs. It’s very therapeutic and because it’s homegrown, it feels safer for consumption. And fresh herbs are so useful to have whenever! I wish you and your family years and years of lovely moments in your new house. Don’t worry too much about getting the house done up as believe me it’ll be a work in progress project for the next 12 months!

A patio/wakaf could be at one of the lawn junction so you could see the intended wooden (BBQ, caravan) area and the green lawn area.

🎂🎉 I think for the outside corner in the yard you could try a mid sized fountain or a covered gazebo for shade and picnic area. The hitch in the ground you could always invert a flower pot or barrel over~ just as long as it’s big enough to be sturdy~ until you’re able to get it pulled. The inside, for that one section, you could try a rounded edge end table with some framed family portraits~ you don’t have to choose one or any of those ideas but hopefully it helps spark some ideas you may have 😊

Congrats on the new house. It is an older house which usually have a big yard. Lots of potential. I have been to Walnut Creek several time. It is a nice City good for family. BTW, the tree is a fig tree. Nice sweet fruit. Can get fresh or dry one at Trader Joes etc.

It's a very nice house. and have plenty of potential. I would suggest that the space you pointed out where next to the kitchen turn it to dinning area. Then the current dinning area turn it to your office. have glass panel partition & glass door with it will looks nice. Zeyden room can be part of guest room for now. As the yard, the area that next to your suggested patio, clean out the shrubs then you can assign it for your children activities like putting a inflatable children swimming pool during summer, tent as back yard camping or trampoline and so on. To have a small mobile islands(since it quite narrow) in the kitchen can be useful. Anyway it's just my suggestions. whatever you do should suit to your entire family needs.

Just a suggestion, I think Zay2 should havr his own room. It would be quite dangerous for him to sleep in a room with lots of cords and electrical stuffs from your workstation. Maybe u could have your office in the master bedroom as it looks like it could fit both tables.

A computer in the master bedroom could lead to sleep issues. Best not to have the office in any of the bedrooms.

11:59 I googled it and yes it's fig tree, keep coz it's yummy. U can put gravel on that tree area so that weed don't grow n it'll be easier to maintain.

My suggestion is to have the empty space in front the island counter into more spacious office and Zadens room as fully room . He will need his own room aft some time .
2 separate rooms for both kids okay... but ofc or work desk in their room not good.

rear side yard ok for turf for playing and front side where the tap was should be green vegies farming thing as lot of windows there n football etc will damage that...

I love your new house especially the yard..I have always wanted a space like that to grow herbs but since living in a high rise flat in Singapore I will never such opprtunity.I suggested probably you would like to set a portion in yr yard for herbs garden like pandan leave, lemon grass, mint, cilantro, curry leaves etc. Those herbs are useful if u want to make nasi lemak, curry or tea such as mint tea, lemongrass tea or even teh tarik wth pandan aroma

Congratulations on your new abode! Looks lovely and spacious. I especially love the garden/yard that surrounds the house. So much you could do with the outdoor space. A patio as you have in mind provides a great extension of space to move around. Can put in some furniture that can also allow outdoor meals on weekends. Personally I like growing vegetables and herbs. It’s very therapeutic and because it’s homegrown, it feels safer for consumption. And fresh herbs are so useful to have whenever!
I wish you and your family years and years of lovely moments in your new house. Don’t worry too much about getting the house done up as believe me it’ll be a work in progress project for the next 12 months!
