As always great video. I tried using gddr6x d8bgx on an rtx 3070ti that uses d8bww and that card had memory training errors. I also tried using d8bgw and that card worked with no training errors, passed all stress tests except OCCT which would complain about memory errors. So now I'm waiting for the correct GDDR6x to arrive and just replace them with the correct type.
@@arctiicfreeze4018 the 3070ti has space for only 8 chips. I’m not sure if there is 2GB GDDR6x or if there is that’s cheap, it would be a nice experiment to do!
Tried using a set of premium "highly rated" aftermarket power supply cables on my PC, and found out after about a year that they were the cause of several issues I had with crashes and blue screens. Never again unless they come directly from the power supply manufacturer.

About the speed of the memory chips. It's easier, then you might think. The bios has a fixed speed for the memory and chips with slower speed, can't get the higher speeds, it's nearly impossible, also the timings won't catch up. The memory chips with higher speeds, have the most time a little bit slower timings, but if they lower they speed, the timings went down, so it will work. The best way to see it is, if you look for XMP profiles on the memory for the Mainboard. If you ramp up the speed, the timings went down, but slower memory doesn't scale up the timings as good, as faster memory, if this makes sense.
depends on which chip the bios uses to get a memory id for strap table lookup you could replace all but that one, unless its checking multiple chips...
Got my hopes up I thought my balls were finally getting reballed after 28 years knew I shouldn’t have trusted that no clean flux , oh well maybe one day

Mixing chips: it depends on the memory timing detection and configuration circuitry. If it's a single slower chip getting OC'ed then it probably won't work. It could be that either the timing is preset by the card model or that it is configured based on probing one chip for timing info and assuming they're all the same.
You are balling dude! Keep up this great content for all of us. In case you see this comment, got a question. What exactly is that silver wire that you put next to the chip when applying heat?
About how fast and slow a memory chip can be is possibly related to what is in the bios. Putting on slower is pushing it over it what it possible can do because the bios thinks everything is fast. Faster is no problem because the bios doesn't know and the memory chip can relax.
You mentioned that you work a day job also. The skills you demonstrate here are well polished, logical, and effective. Was just wondering if your day job is electronics related also?
I'm just waiting for my video card to break so I can send it to you. 😊 Its a gigabyte 3080. I didn't know anything about cards when I bought this s***. To be fair it's been a decent card for at least a year now I don't know maybe more
I am surprise that owners aren’t more honest with you when sending in cards. Why wouldn’t they say it had been repaired before? Surely would help with troubleshooting and ultimately help them save money via your time?
Another great video. I know next to nothing about these repairs. Could you add "pads" to to the missing ones on the memory chip to see if it was salvageable or is the chip no longer be good?
A bit odd question about the memory replacement. Arent the memory clocks in bios? As long as you run higher spec memories it will be fine as they will run below their specifications. I would assume you can swap them all to faster ones and they run on stock (factory memory) speeds. You can oc manually later in OS, but since bios has it oc limitations you might not be able to benefit from these higher frequency memories. All that said most of the higher end gpus have generous memory overclocking overhead so 14000=>16000 could be acheavable. I do have a question - if memory was balled improperly then could it be assumed that chip is fine and could be just put back on (instead of replacement)?
Do you work for a board assembler full time? I worked for bare board fabricators around 30 years, creating all the tooling including paste masks for assembly houses.
I prefer to make my own cables, that way I control the quality and gauge of the wire and connectors, if you choose to go this route your going to need a crimper like the Lutro modded one
I wanted to but I don't know what those terminals are called. Type and gauge or why ever name they have. Otherwise I would have built my own cable set instead of wasting money buying overpriced junk.

try change all memory chips for faster ones .. it will still run slow speeds but then see if you can mod the bios to get the card to run the vram at faster speeds than it normally would to cater for the faster memory soldered on .. be fun to see if you could
Well I don't think there is a way to change frequency in the bios without hacking the bios 1st which no one has done. If that was possible, slower chips would simply not be able to keep up and get out of synk. That is why it works only when you put faster chips, not slower. I also don't think it's a bios setting but rather memory chips it's self. I can be wrong. Never experimented with soldering faster chips to see if that makes for higher frequency or increased performance.
I got a question. How hard is it to find ram chips? Cause you seem to not have alot unless you have more somewhere else. i also heard online that its hard to find these chips.
If it's anything like mixed RAM it will only run at the speed of the slowest module. I would think VRAM would be the same?? If that was the case you could use 1 slower VRAM module, but all the VRAM would run at the speed of the slowest module, and the card would run, but at a reduced memory bandwidth. Again, not sure if its the same with VRAM as it is with mixed RAM.
