      @@Alexlfm I agree, my point was that unlike other channels, you don't see expensive brands being worshipped and mentioned in every video, he is not trying to convince you that X brand flux is superior to Y brand flux and his work is generally being done with whatever he has. Yes, he has 2k worth of equipment and does just as astonishingly good quality work, as others with 3 times worth equipment.

    As always great video. I tried using gddr6x d8bgx on an rtx 3070ti that uses d8bww and that card had memory training errors. I also tried using d8bgw and that card worked with no training errors, passed all stress tests except OCCT which would complain about memory errors. So now I'm waiting for the correct GDDR6x to arrive and just replace them with the correct type.

    About the speed of the memory chips. It's easier, then you might think.
    The bios has a fixed speed for the memory and chips with slower speed, can't get the higher speeds, it's nearly impossible, also the timings won't catch up.
    The memory chips with higher speeds, have the most time a little bit slower timings, but if they lower they speed, the timings went down, so it will work.
    The best way to see it is, if you look for XMP profiles on the memory for the Mainboard. If you ramp up the speed, the timings went down, but slower memory doesn't scale up the timings as good, as faster memory, if this makes sense.

    Mixing chips: it depends on the memory timing detection and configuration circuitry. If it's a single slower chip getting OC'ed then it probably won't work. It could be that either the timing is preset by the card model or that it is configured based on probing one chip for timing info and assuming they're all the same.

    About how fast and slow a memory chip can be is possibly related to what is in the bios. Putting on slower is pushing it over it what it possible can do because the bios thinks everything is fast. Faster is no problem because the bios doesn't know and the memory chip can relax.

    A bit odd question about the memory replacement. Arent the memory clocks in bios? As long as you run higher spec memories it will be fine as they will run below their specifications. I would assume you can swap them all to faster ones and they run on stock (factory memory) speeds. You can oc manually later in OS, but since bios has it oc limitations you might not be able to benefit from these higher frequency memories. All that said most of the higher end gpus have generous memory overclocking overhead so 14000=>16000 could be acheavable. I do have a question - if memory was balled improperly then could it be assumed that chip is fine and could be just put back on (instead of replacement)?

    • @northwestrepair
      @northwestrepair  Рік тому +2

      Well I don't think there is a way to change frequency in the bios without hacking the bios 1st which no one has done.
      If that was possible, slower chips would simply not be able to keep up and get out of synk.
      That is why it works only when you put faster chips, not slower.
      I also don't think it's a bios setting but rather memory chips it's self.
      I can be wrong. Never experimented with soldering faster chips to see if that makes for higher frequency or increased performance.

If that was the case you could use 1 slower VRAM module, but all the VRAM would run at the speed of the slowest module, and the card would run, but at a reduced memory bandwidth. Again, not sure if its the same with VRAM as it is with mixed RAM.
