Thanks! Great review! Crazy plugin - but i got to say after listening to several demos that the talkbox part - doesn't sound anything like a talkbox. Just like a slightly different version of a vocoder.
great video i tried out what you did and came pretty close but im pretty new to keyboards is there any video that shows how to play it to get these kinda sounds?
Not sure, but if you have ableton try this: take a famous song. Find the midi version of it on youtube. Get that song as an mp3. Convert the song from audio to midi (choose melody setting) in Ableton, then throw an instance of VocalSynth on the newly converted midi track. Also, have a listen to the midi performance to make sure it sounds good. brush away any crap notes. Good luck!
+BAwesomeDesign hey dude. Instructions are in their documentation , not sure what DAW you have but they have a list of all compatible Daws and how to hook up vocal synth via MIDI. www.izotope.com/content/dam/izotope/learning/VocalSynth/How%20To%20Use%20In%20Logic%20Pro.pdf
I'm very interested in using this in a live performance --- I have a TC Helicon VoiceLive and I was hoping using this can replace that as I have to use my laptop anyway. Do you notice any latency? And seeing this I'm assuming you can use it while tracking rather than just adding it in post, right?
What are your RAM/other specs? I found VocalSynth to be a bit of a CPU hog, but that's to be expected of such a high performing plug in (not trying to gush but it's not like you're singing through an EQ)
currently running a MBP retina early 2015, 2.7ghz i5, 8gb of RAM, hopefully that suffices? i think I'm more worried of how much of a CPU hog it is -- a lot of the izotope plugins i find is a little heavier on the cpu like the ozone and nectar plugins, which isn't a problem when i work on a mix. i use an 18i20 as my interface on my main iMac (2013) and has nearly the same specs (just a little higher) and i've used the 18i20 on the MBP too without any problems, but I might invest on a smaller interface just for live stuff, so i'm also hoping i can get a smaller focusrite one and be okay -- I'm using Push 2 also... that i'm not sure if it might be too heavy on the cpu if i add an interface in there and use some plugins on the vocals..
+Ave Crux yeah man. Anything over 4GB of RAM should suffice. Push is essentially hardware with a USB 3 input so data transfer will be fast and won't affect the performance of the machine. I'd say go to the site, download the trial and use it in whatever vocal chain you normally use. And for good measure have a few other applications open. Little stress test. If you find its still taxing your system don't be shy about sending feedback to iZotope. They're remarkably responsive.
I downloaded the trial version and came back to watch this as a sort of manual/guide. I can't get my vocals to sound or connect as strongly as yours do and watching this back again I realise you are using some sort of MIDI. Could you possibly explain how to create or work this? Thank you :)
Hey bud. This is the method I used to write in my MIDI in Ableton. Let me know if this helps you: MIDI setup for VocalSynth 1. Create a MIDI track and an audio track. 2. Instantiate VocalSynth on the audio track. 3. Turn on MIDI mode in VocalSynth by clicking the MIDI icon at the top of the window. 4. Add audio data to the audio track. 5. In the output section of the MIDI track, switch monitor to IN and "MIDI To" to the audio track.
+Manchester Music Thank you so much for such a quick response and the help, I did all that and set it up. Only to realize the final but I can't do as I'm using Logic. Is there a way of doing it on there? Thanks
+Charlie Pennell Productions if you have the documentation there should be instructions for a MIDI logic set up. If you don't this should help: SETTING UP MIDI MODE 1 Create an instrument track 2 Insert VocalSynth as a MIDI-controlled audio e ect in the instrument slot 3 Use the Logic Pro plug-in shell to route in an audio side-chain signal as the modulator 4 Ensure audio data exists on the track you’re routing in 5 In VocalSynth, enable MIDI mode via the MIDI button
I love how with 3 tracks this plugin takes 27 % of your CPU..... great job iZotop! as always optimization is for cheap skunks ! ///tbh that's the reason i don't use iZotop products if it's not a final stage of the production
Wow. Digital (software) vocoders almost universally sound thin / crappy... one area they mostly fall down on is sibilance, which this seems to deal with flawlessly. So many options and settings... and unlike most software vocoders, looks really simple to use. Going to have to demo, but seems to have as good a sound as Eiosis / Vocodex, with massively increased options. Damn it, there goes my "no more plugins" vow.
Larry Lynch well, it's a carrier/signal relationship. You'd be affecting your voice with your keyboard. So MIDI mode sounds like what you'd need to do. It's not a synth in its own right. It needs to be affecting something.
Manchester Music so any basic Midi Signal may be used to "perform" with it ? I mean if i create "chords" only in MIDI ... can i play it thgout this plug in and it gonna " sing " or perform like a synth ?
Not sure what DAW you're using but at the very end of my video you'll notice midi mode it switched off and I'm using singing into VocalSynth using a custom voice/pitch correction set up. If you plug your mic in and just start singing you should be in business.
Can I use midi mode while singing into it? I want it to manipulate my vocals in real time as I sing them, but also want to be able to control the pitch using midi as I'm singing
It's more a general rule when recording anything. Podcasts, guitars. Lots of people record from home in spaces that are..sub-optimal. I recorded a pro-string quartet in a kitchen once. Also, did some on-location sound in a church where a mini fridge about 400 meters away was feeding into the pre-amps on the HDR. Just thought I'd mention it.
its ok .. the presets suck , you definitely need another synth feeding into the plug. i still found "mda talkbox" (freeware vst) to have the best quality of all robo/vocoder effects though. but its very streamlined and hasslefree
we have the same last name haha. This is awesome! I'm gonna have to use this. I love doing like experimental vocals. I use logic pro X though. soundcloud.com/eruditious/yolo-preview here's something I'm working on right now! Gonna use this tutorial to play around with this!
+Manchester I didn't choose to play the game haha, gotta stay hustlin' tho! I've been learning production and rapping for about 9 months now, seems like you can never learn enough tho! I'll check out more of your videos for sure
Dude, you're taking way too long to explain the stuff that people actually care about. How the hell do you route it to MIDI on Ableton, man.. This is honestly a rambling video, 25 minutes? Come on. Some of us actually need to learn stuff here.
This plug in is crazy. Gotta get this. Dope
Thank you so much! You jumped right in showing us what we need.
Just my style :)
Yea, so good when people just show the instrument rather than talking
is it possible to do custom midi from piano roll?
Great video. This is the first video for VocalSynth that made me want to buy it immediately.
Appreciate it man.
That intro made me love you
Thanks! Great review! Crazy plugin - but i got to say after listening to several demos that the talkbox part - doesn't sound anything like a talkbox. Just like a slightly different version of a vocoder.
30 seconds in, and I was sold.
Great, that´s what I was looking for to use into Live.
i got chills when i heard it
Amazing plug-in like a dream>>>>>
R.I.P., Abe Vocoder.
Wow, the stereo imaging alone... Wow.
I subbed when he said "Vocoder" sounds southern. lol
this is pretty cool! I gotta check it out
Great review and very entertaining.
So THAT'S what the fridge picture on your Twitter was for!
10 points for Gryffindor ;)
Yeah - iZotope should have this on their site. Well done...was on the fence but this is too much fun to pass up :)
Such a huge compliment, man. Thanks a lot!
That "Skinny Dog" preset must be an homage to Nivek Ogre of Skinny Puppy's vocal treatments; cheeky.
Awesome toy and presentation!
Thanks bud!
Okay. It does sidechain - that's what I needed to know. Mostly how I use a vocoder.
this is awesome.. it laughed hard with THAT frame
Thanks man. My girlfriend was not impressed. Lol
Great review! I'm sold. Looking forward to seeing that blockbuster you've mentioned coming out... =D
Thanks dude. Marvel won't release the footage yet because they're worried it'll take away from the latest XMen movie's sales.
Lol. Fair enough.
this thing looks pretty cool!

excellent, thank you.
you're very welcome :)
Awesome video 😂 nice sense of humor!
How do you feed the midi in to the vocal synth plugin? I assume the audio is on the track... where does the midi clip live in the session?
+BAwesomeDesign hey dude. Instructions are in their documentation , not sure what DAW you have but they have a list of all compatible Daws and how to hook up vocal synth via MIDI. www.izotope.com/content/dam/izotope/learning/VocalSynth/How%20To%20Use%20In%20Logic%20Pro.pdf

And yes - im assuming you can using it while tracking. Just make sure your DAW has its low latency settings enabled (which I'm sure you already know)
currently running a MBP retina early 2015, 2.7ghz i5, 8gb of RAM, hopefully that suffices? i think I'm more worried of how much of a CPU hog it is -- a lot of the izotope plugins i find is a little heavier on the cpu like the ozone and nectar plugins, which isn't a problem when i work on a mix.

Yoy are greate! Good luck!!

Yo! I got everything except part 3.. What do they mean by plug-in shell? Do you have a more specific explanation to this step? Cheers
Lol really funny and informative tutorial, thanks!
+Yuval Ron my pleasure!

Man, help me. How I use this in a live performancing?
i didnt get, can the vocoder work in live, using on live midi notes from midi controller?
Can I put this plug on a Aux track an send dry Vox to it, ?
Instantly subbed.
D'aww, thanks man.

Does it work with samples as well?
random question but what is that purple pokeball icon on the top right of your screen?
Pro Tools
Nice xD I like it
Damn this is crazy
Could you use it simply with a keyboard ????
Larry Lynch well, it's a carrier/signal relationship. You'd be affecting your voice with your keyboard. So MIDI mode sounds like what you'd need to do. It's not a synth in its own right. It needs to be affecting something.

southern vocoder lmao!!!
can you tell me if it can do these effect real-time? I wanna change performances based on the goodness that vocalsynth spits out!

cool
harder better faster stronger
I guess my only question is why is your fridge in your studio? But, hey to each his own.
Do I need a different program to work with this?
Hmm, what are you trying to make happen?
+Manchester Music for example can I use a program like fl studio with this plug in or do I need that crazy thing u have in the background?
+KF Stuff believe it works with any DAW including FL.
+Manchester Music thanks for the quick response, just found this channel and your hilarious! Keep it up!
its ok .. the presets suck , you definitely need another synth feeding into the plug.

Compuvox sounds like this synth wave songs
"All your base are belong to us." hahahaa!

Manchester United......Come On
Not worth that kind of money. There's nothing new here worth talking about.
Hello, I'm afraid you speak far to fast and speech is unclear, I ca hardly understand you at all

I’m sorry to hear that.
I can understand him fine
I'm happy for you you

Cool story bro.
Oh? Someone can't handle criticism well?
Keep up the useless videos bro! Clearly ur channel is doing well with that constant decrease in views :D Good stuff man. Love the ego
The video isn’t called “how to route MIDI in Ableton”. Consult the manual if you have a specific query.
Thanks for stopping by, fella.
