I borrowed a video of my brother's in the early 90s called 'Modes: No more mysteries.' It was made by Frank Gambale, who at the time I hadn't heard of(embarrassingly). I watched the beginning and was awed by his playing, and continued with the instructional part. After about a 1/2 an hour I knew I was incapable of understanding the lessons because I didn't know enough theory. I realized it was time to quit playing or get on it. I decided to get on it, and I consider the work I did to understand the theory behind his lessons as the main reason I can view myself as a musician and not just a hack who plays the guitar. Beyond that, he introduced me to the concept of economy picking, which was something that came naturally to me as opposed to alternate picking, which I was struggling with. It was very affirming to see this guy blaze through licks and lend credibility to a technique I disregarded because everyone was putting forth alternate picking as the only path to pick up speed. Although I subsequently went to university and never made a career of music, I still love to play and I owe him a ton. Thank you sir. And thanks to Mr. Zappa and Da'ddario for the video.
I was on a similar path... not a natural alternate picker, and I was leaning toward economy picking as well. Frank's an amazing player and seems to be pretty amiable chap as well.
That was the best thing I've seen on youtube ina long fucking time. Frank you are the man and Deeezil your style and passion on the guitar still shines. I could watch a series of you two.
Thank you Mr. Zappa for sharing this video and thank you to Mr. Zappa of his humbleness to open his guitar wisdom to the whole world. Hello from Jakarta, Indonesia🙏
It´s just great to behold two monster players and artists talk music, background in such a chilled enviroment...! Love Frank´s music... such a humble being...
Let them have respect for Mr. Gambale as such: He had changed my playing for life ever since the 90,s thanks to God for creating this force of nature in a human format
Thanks gents... The last piece of the lesson is pure gold! Frank, you have become very scary as the ripened player you are. Will Dweezil interview himself?
It's hard to control accurate rhythm with sweep picking ( or economy picking ). I practice economy picking serval months , eventually give up and use alternate again !
I know Gambale is a legend, but I would like to see more youngsters in this show, invite Sam Birchall, Pigarette, Jose Macario, Plini ... or at least some underdog like Dave Fiuczynski, Cenk Erdogan or Jon Gomm. A cool oddball like Adrian Belew would be interesting too.
Give Frank his due respect. 90% pf the guitar players on this channel are as you would call them "youngsters". Just check it out. Besides , too many young guitar players think they know it all. Guess who does the educating... The masters who have paid their dues.
Smokin' Joe Robinson is young AND Australian, though he may endorse other strings, which could be very limiting on who you can get. I use D'Addario strings myself, but more as an homage to Alex D'Addario of the Bay Watch franchise than anything else.
Frank I'm shocked that you use such poor quality strings(D addario),lack tone and don't last very long,I use Curt Mangan Nickel,Dean Markley Blue Steel,Fender Nickel and Ernie Ball Slinky.
Frank has gotten alot better in recent years. He is actually very musical these days. Frank still lacks any sense of melody, but he will get it one day. I may send him a Santana or Dimeola album or something to get him started.
What a wealth of information in under 13 minutes from Professor Frank Gambale. Thank you.
The guy is a diva
We can see why Gambale is such a good teacher - he's a great communicator and thinks deeply about what he's doing.
Please increase the amount of footage of Dweezil jamming with the guest. That's always a highlight.
" I knew that I only had about 50% right, but that's ok, it was 50% more that I knew...." That's a great take-away ....

What a great teacher.
This is absolutely too short.
I agree :-)
Obviously
Yeah. These two should do more more more
yeah, I feel like allot of it is edited out! i feel like half an hour to an hour would be best!
Oh man...what a treat
Too bad its so short
That was great!
It was a hell of a interview for every musicians, thanks!
I'm so happy that i found this today.
I'm a big fan of both of these fellas.
Didn't know these two ever met like this.
Sick.
Frank..... By far, the most underrated jazz player out there in the industry
thank you thank you thank you thank you this was just brilliant, one of the real pillars of modern electric guitar Frank Gamble 💗🤘🤘🤘
That was the best thing I've seen on youtube ina long fucking time. Frank you are the man and Deeezil your style and passion on the guitar still shines. I could watch a series of you two.

I still miss Matt Sweeney, but Dweezil is doing a great job. Keep it up guys
JuuWorlds matt is the definition of the guy you wanna have a beet with. I think that type of person makes the best interviewer.
definitely need more of this episode... please extend it!
Great discussion. I enjoyed that.
Frank is an absolute joy
It´s just great to behold two monster players and artists talk music, background in such a chilled enviroment...! Love Frank´s music... such a humble being...
Gambale is one of the best all time !!
Gambale, Holdsworth(RIP), and Llevano(from JLP's band)..... these 3 guys, along with FZ, JB and Ravi Shankar created my style.....
i met frank and he is a great guy as well as one of the best guitarist on earth.
What a music lexicon Frank has and his ability to articulate his knowledge is a well crafted as his guitar virtuosity.
I immediately had to watch this again.
MORE MORE MORE of these two ...purty please?
This is the only "shredder," "technical virtuoso" stuff that's interested me at all in YEARS!... May need to dig up the key to the woodshed :P :D
hey u may know . what live album is Frank talking about at 3:50, "Frank Gamble Live"?
Monster monster player and a super nice guy to boot. Dweezil is a great interviewer as well.
Frank you are just amazing !!!
Let them have respect for Mr. Gambale as such: He had changed my playing for life ever since the 90,s thanks to God for creating this force of nature in a human format
Awesome show.... should be a standard 30 minutes....
Frank Gambale is an absolute monster!
Lot's of cool info packed into 12 minutes ~ good job!
2 masters! wow!
Dweezil has the interviewing knack. Good stuff.
is there a dweezil guitar show? coz it needs to happen
Great stuff.
Italian night at D'Addario's!!!
Thank you Frank Gambale
Frank is a great teacher.
El incomparable maestro Gambale
Brilliant player, nice guy.
Thanks gents...
The last piece of the lesson is pure gold!
Frank, you have become very scary as the ripened player you are.
Will Dweezil interview himself?
Dweezil brought out the effing legends for this show
I need more... Completely Awesome !
he is so happy, just a little kid jamming
Frank gambale is the only guitar player i can listen to all day
Everyday no problem.
I met both of these guys...ages ago.
Still a legend
When is your next video? :D Keep it up!
Every other Tuesday - Pedal Power runs in between - both start on Tuesdays.
Everytime I listen to Gambale I think to myself man this is crazy !
Love Dweezil!!
Frank is the man!
Awesome chat guys!
wow 2 de mis grandes guitar hero's!!!!
It's hard to control accurate rhythm with sweep picking ( or economy picking ). I practice economy picking serval months , eventually give up and use alternate again !
That last bit he played has Eric Johnson written all over it. Very cool feel.
longer videos pls
Does anyone know what MIDI controller Gambale was using? Thanks.
Such a humble guitar #master!
☆☆☆☆☆
Love or hate his style….Frank Gambale is a hella of nice dude and an excellent instructor!
Part 2??
where's the rest of it ? :
Frank looks like the most focused man ever
more
The 2nd to last lick at the end is the grim reaper
Great vid guys. Thanks
Gm pentatonic over E7#9, sounds great
Lick at 10:47 is dope
I think I would have to practice sweep picking for like 3 months until it becomes a natural movement.
well what else ya got to do? lol...
Really like to hear Frank play without that distortion. Sounds nasty to me
My other favourite Frank. That was way too short.
I keep thinking a zombie is going to appear with the gray wash filter on the vid lol...to much walking dead for me.
so versitile with hiis playing out.
What was that, an interview for ants? It should be at least 3 times longer.
💪😎👍
Frank didn't invest sweeping but he thinks he did
I dont agree that there are only a handful of players with a recognizable sound. I can think of 30 off the top of my head.
I know Gambale is a legend, but I would like to see more youngsters in this show, invite Sam Birchall, Pigarette, Jose Macario, Plini ... or at least some underdog like Dave Fiuczynski, Cenk Erdogan or Jon Gomm.

These guys don't live forever you know...
Whatever.
Smokin' Joe Robinson is young AND Australian, though he may endorse other strings, which could be very limiting on who you can get. I use D'Addario strings myself, but more as an homage to Alex D'Addario of the Bay Watch franchise than anything else.

Cenk Erdogan!!
Way too many cuts-editing needs to be toned down a lot.
Frank has gotten alot better in recent years. He is actually very musical these days. Frank still lacks any sense of melody, but he will get it one day. I may send him a Santana or Dimeola album or something to get him started.
imagine Singing Bebop....... i dont think he needs to hear Carlos......
Carlos hasn’t played anything melodic since 1976.
Lol
Try Takanaka Masayoshi
@@dadduorp sad? Yes
