Thanks featuring guys! 👍🏻
Thanks for letting us grade your footage, keep up the epic Work!!
Love this, I've learned so much about colour grading from you guys ❤️
Thanks a lot from watching Abdul, really appreciate your constant support 🙏🏽
Brilliant video, thank you for that.
Thanks for watching
Love this!
Thanks a lot Daniel!
amazing bro!!
Thanks Juan!
The shot ended up pretty nice. Great color and contrast.
Although I was a bit confused when you said you didn't use CST cause it could brake the image.
I think the reason for this breakage is you color space.
You should be fine grading inside Davinci Wide Gamut, which is a ginormous color space that shouldn't break that easily compared to Rec709 or other LOG spaces.
You can do a CST (IDT) from your camera (REC709, Slog3, Flog... ) to Davinci Wide Gamut and Davinci Intermediate, respectively.
At the end you do a CST out (ODT), from Davinci Wide Gamut and Davinci Intermediate to Rec709 and any Gamma you choose.
Corrections and Grade should be in between this node sandwiche.
To better working HDR Wheels and Color Warper, change your settings for Timeline color space to "Davinci intermediate".
Also, if you want to use a Kodak2383, no need to convert to Cineon, just download Cullen Kelly's 2383 Lut for Davinci Wide Gamut Space. (He's the source for all this info too, if you need to check)
Thats it. Probably an unbreakable image now.
Hey! Really appreciate your feedback and what you say is completely true. CST works fine with most footage but what we've found is, with footage that is 8-bit, such as the clip edited int this tutorial, using CST breaks it up more than balancing the clip manually as you don't have to pull as much/you don't have to transform straight to Rec.709 if creating a more stylised look.
And yes there's no need to convert to cineon, that's just an alternative look.
Really appreciate the input!!
Love your grading videos. Could you make one about grading day HLG footage? I've tried SLOG2 and can never seem to nail it, so I just normally shoot on HLG. Maybe I could send some footage in for you to grade?
This clip was actually HLG as I mentioned in the video. And you can get in touch with us through our email 🙏🏽
where can i find footage
Great video. When you say that CST will break it up, do you mean it will make the darks basically invisible? This is what happens to me. I will apply the CST and plug in the two timelines for the A7IV, and the dark areas are literally unseeable. Is this what you mean by breaking it up?
How are the lights blooming already in log footage? Did he use promist filter or something?
didn't know cst breaks the image. so is it better to not use cineprint at night shots with a7iii? what if i want that film emulation look . is there a way to use cineprint without cst?
If you're wanting to do a lot of clean color masking then CST will make it hard to do that for 8 bit footage. But with Cineptint16 it's completely fine as you're doing more LUT conversions through cineon or printfilm. And the blur and grain helps to mask the artifacts too, So it's completely usable :)
camera setting still the same from a previous video you made?
Yes!
@@meliorstudios It's not S Gamut 3 right? What did u used here? itu709 for slog?
Would you say this clip would be easier to grade if it were HLG3 instead of SLOG2? Great video as always man :)
if it wasn't for the extra source of light from the Red RGB light then I'd say yes, however, the light really helped to get a lot of the skin in the correct range for slog2. But the problem with slog 2 is the shadows which do start to get very noisy, and of course the shadows in this are very underexposed so you just gotta make sure you're not pulling those shadows too much. Hence why i'd probs recommend HLG3 for a situation like this
why is davinci resolve 18 is activation code and gpu problem
You only need an activation code for film grain and other FX tools and the gpu problem will be due to the computer you’re using as Davinci requires a decent amount of GpU power
This was the most confusing trailer I've seen
This was a tutorial!
I get that some stuff we can learn on our own, but something as simple as reiterating which command keys you're using goes a long way. You made like 5 nodes in 10 seconds and that threw me off. I'm gonna tough the video out because the end result is great but some of us are watching your channel for the first time/new to Davinci. Good work nonetheless tho bro.
Ho Hanif, you make an excellent point. In a lot of our previous initial tutorials we always added what keys we used to make nodes/adjustments but I think we just got a little lazy when editing the tutorial this time (our bad) which understandbaly, does not make it beginner friendly. we'll be sure to implement the feedback for our next turorial
@@meliorstudios I really appreciate that. i’m going to go through your channel because I’m gonna be editing and grading solely in davinci!!
