What a great video on a use if the RGB mixer. And yes, it's true that it doesn't get enough love. I have seen in the past youTubers using the RGB mixer and pushing the levels of each up to 2.00 to turn up saturation, it should be pointed out that this does increase the saturation, but using it that way is no different than just increasing the saturation i n the primary tools from 50 to 100.
But this technique of borrowing from the green to push the trace over, is brilliant and something that I have seen done before, but completely forgot about.
I think fixing bad footage is an art. And I bet it is of great interest to filmmakers starting to do their own color grades. Especially in the documentary type films where there is virtually no set up time or gear, and worse no "retaking" of the footage.
I really enjoyed this one Darren. Nice job.

Thanks Jim, appreciated. Yes I was amazed so little info on the RGB mixer out there. Of course agree sat would be done elsewhere as easier - I was merely proving a point here. As with my other nodes - not my normal node tree but it just seemed a shame to leave it there - I almost couldn't help myself but to correct the shot further and thought would be nice for those who stuck around longer than 5 minutes to see!! Good to be back - it's been. few weeks since I did an episode and intend to get a few out soon now and get back on it. Appreciate your comments as always!! Thanks, Darren.

I personally liked the extra bit at the end. It helps drive home that you were able to save a shot through a solid baseline of using the RGB mixer. I think in general your videos are very focused and your instinct for what to include is excellent.

Luke - thank you - that comment means a lot - I was tempted to stop at what the RGB mixer did but couldn't resist making shot better - youtube prefers shorter videos so I went against the stats and did what I want - as always do!! Thank you for commenting - really helpful to me to know what my audience wants! Darren.

It's nice that you're sharing priceless information & tutorials to those who are maybe self teaching and can't afford to pay for lessons. When pandemic started, i did not know anything about video editing but had to fix my daughter's videos which very very important to her. Tried hard to balance the color and minimize the color cast in a free online software. The color cast was still there but my daughter's friend was very happy for the result but was just better for me. Started to know about coloring from some locals video editors tutorial on youtube. When i knew Davinci Resolve is the proper software for video color editing, i found your video about color page tips for beginner and watched all your video & Cullen Kelly ever since. This video, again, is the best explanation for a beginner like me to understand more better about rgb mixer tool. 2:56 this is an example of how they used to do special effects in black and white movies circa 1940's. Since it was in black and white, color filters and colored makeup were used the same way your image was affected by sliding a color while in monochrome. If they needed to do an aging effect on an actor, they would paint wrinkles and creases on his face with a certain color only. one filter wont see that color and another will. I just learned that last year and it blew me away on how cool that was. everyone have a great week! thanks Darren

Nice. I've seen so many colour tutorials but this is something I'm going to have to remember. I've often been disatisfied with the colour wheels and warper fixing one thing and messing up another, only to use Lum Vs Sat and all those fancy things, only to get myself in a mess after hours of my eyes adjusting, looking at it the next day and realizing it looks horrible. The key to good colour correction I find is speed. The longer you look at it, the worse you make it.

Thank you so much this was actually such a useful tutorial and I stumbled upon it by mere accident! I learned so much and I was indeed having issues with moving the wheels to get a more neutral image since as you stated the video would just end up looking tinted as opposed to simply balanced. 10/10
